Chisamba Magistrate Court has committed a 23-year-old man to the High Court for trial for sabotaging a railway track with the intent to endanger the railways and the lives of train passengers.
Resident Magistrate Susan Magalashi, has committed Paul Lungu, of Location Compound in Chisamba, to the High Court on a joint charge of endangering railways and persons traveling thereon, contrary to Section 226(1)(b) of the Penal Code.
On June 1, 2026, Lungu allegedly and maliciously removed 17 Pandrol clips from a railway track with intent to endanger the safety of passengers aboard a Zambia Railways Limited train, thereby jeopardizing the railway and those traveling on it.
When the matter was called for mention, Magistrate Magalashi read and explained the charges to the accused person.
The presiding magistrate committed Lungu to the High Court for a plea and subsequent trial, on instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
“I the State Advocate, Lubosi Kikamba, on behalf of the DPP, Pursuant to the powers vested in me by sections 254 and 82 of the criminal procedure Code Chapter 88 of the laws of Zambia as read with SI Number 235 of 1965, do hereby certify that this is a proper case for trial by the high court as a summary procedure case,” certificate for summary trial read in part.
Magistrate Magalashi stated that the case will be tried in the High Court under summary procedure, in accordance with Sections 254 and 82 of the Criminal Procedure Code Act, Chapter 88 of the Laws of Zambia, read together with Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 235 of 1965.
The accused remain in custody.
