A 34-year-old man of Robert Village of Chief Kawaza in Katete District is admitted to St. Francis Mission Hospital after he was attacked and robbed of a motorbike near Katete Correctional Facility Football Ground.
Katete Police Station received a report of aggravated robbery from Rachael Banda, 26, of Ibex Compound who reported on behalf of her brother, Mike Banda.
According to Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, the victim was attacked by unknown persons armed with an unknown instrument and robbed of his unregistered red Gatoma motorbike valued at K28,000.
The chassis and engine numbers are not yet known.
Brief facts are that on July 4, 2026 around 16:00 hours, the victim was called by his 17-year-old niece, Previous Phiri of Ibex Compound, that she was sick and needed to be taken to her mother in Robert Village.
Mr Mweemba says the victim left Robert Village for Katete Boma on his motorbike with plans to sleep in Ibex Compound and return to the village early the following morning.
However, he did not reach Ibex Compound. Members of the public found him lying unconscious near the western goal post of the prison ground.
He was rushed to St. Francis Mission Hospital and later reported to police.
Mr Mweemba says some Police officers made a follow up and located his relatives who gave details of his movement.
A docket has been opened and no arrest has been made yet. The victim is currently admitted to Kizito Ward at St. Francis Mission Hospital with multiple head injuries.
The incident occurred between July 4, 2026 around 16:00 hours and July 5, 2026 around 10:00 hours near Katete Correctional Facility football ground in Katete District.
