Kasama Municipal Council happy with ongoing road works

Kasama Municipal Council is happy with the progress that it has made on the ongoing road rehabilitation works.

Council Public Relations Manager, Charity Chaiwila, has described the road works which commenced last month, is a significant step towards improving the district’s road network.

Ms Chaiwila has told ZANIS that the road works are being undertaken at a cost of K11.4 million using the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation under the Presidential Constituency Road Programme.

She revealed that the funding comprises K5.7 million from Kasama Central and K5.7 million from Lukashya Constituencies.

The Public Relations Manager noted that the local authority is currently carrying out grading works on Chiba Road, covering seven kilometers, while works on Chanda Mukulu Road will cover nine kilometers.

Ms Chaiwila said the council identified priority roads through consultations with various stakeholders before commencing the project.

“We had a stakeholder’s engagement where priority roads that needed attention were identified, and we developed a roadmap with stakeholders. So far, we have covered St Theresa Road, covering about nine kilometers, and we are currently working on Chiba Road, where we need to cover about seven kilometers,” she said.

She explained that the project involves grading, gravelling and compacting of roads.

Ms Chaiwila said once complete, the road will improve accessibility and enhance the quality of the road infrastructure.

Ms Chaiwila further said the local authority has developed a work schedule to ensure that all key roads identified under the programme are attended to systematically.

She added that the council has strengthened its capacity to undertake road maintenance following the procurement of five pieces of road construction equipment under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

The equipment includes a tipper truck, a bulldozer, a low-bed truck, a water bowser and other machinery aimed at improving the efficiency of road works in the district.

She has expressed confidence that the ongoing road rehabilitation programme will improve connectivity, ease transportation challenges and contribute to socio-economic development in Kasama District.
