President Hakainde Hichilema has pledged to address the challenges affecting the agriculture sector in Lumezi district of Eastern Province.
Speaking during a community engagement meeting at Lumezi Primary School grounds, the Head of State assured farmers that his administration will tackle price distortions in the tobacco industry, to ensure fair returns for producers.
President Hichilema also committed to addressing the growing cases of human-wildlife conflict in the area, emphasising that human life is precious and that safeguarding the well-being of citizens remains a top priority.
“I am aware of the human wildlife conflict here and I want to assure you that we will resolve it,” he said.
The President further acknowledged the concerns raised by the people of Lumezi and urged them to make informed decisions by supporting the United Party for National Development (UPND) in the upcoming elections scheduled for August 13th, 2026.
He reminded residents not to forget what he described as the victimisation they experienced under the previous administration, stating that those who desire continued freedom and development should support his leadership.
President Hichilema highlighted key achievements of his administration, including the implementation of the free education policy, which has enabled more children to attend school, regardless of their parent’s financial status.
He also noted that his administration has successfully restructured the country’s debt, which had escalated under the previous administration.
On development, the President pointed out that the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) has been significantly increased from K1.6 million to K40 million, thereby accelerating development across constituencies.
“The delimitation of Lumezi into two constituencies will result in increased resource allocation, leading to enhanced development in the area,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema reassured teachers and health workers who have not yet been recruited that the government remains committed to employing them.
