President Hakainde Hichilema has assured Luangwa residents in Feira Constituency of the government’s continued commitment to fostering development in the area.
President Hichilema says the massive development achieved in the district under his leadership is testament of the government’s fulfilment of its promises to the people of Luangwa since assuming office in 2021.
Speaking during a community engagement at Galamuka Grounds in Luangwa district, President Hichilema cited the construction of 103 housing units through Central Government funding, the construction of the first ever modern Kavuula market, the construction of Senior Chief Mburuma’s palace which is at over 95 percent completion rate and an irrigation scheme which is at 90 percent complete.
He said the next project is the construction of Chief Mphuka’s palace which is already in the pipeline.
He said the pontoon will assist the traders especially those trading in fish as the business has been helped to improve their livelihoods.
The President further explained that his government will ensure that a bridge between Zambia and Zimbabwe is constructed to foster economic development between the two countries.
“My administration will engage the Zimbabwean government so that we agree on the construction of Kanyemba Bridge which is of high importance for both countries,” he explained.
Mr Hichilema also assured the residents of Luangwa of youth employment at Chakwenga mine in the district that will be opened soon.
When addressing the network challenges faced in some parts of the district, President Hichilema pledged his commitment to ensuring that it is looked into.
“I have also been told about the challenges you people are facing due to human animal conflict which has affected your farming life. My administration will continue to provide the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) community maize sales until this challenge of animals is addressed,” he said.
President Hichilema also pledged the government’s obligation to ensure that the Kavalamanja R220 road that joins the D145 road is worked on.
He expressed happiness that Luangwa district is a beneficiary of the free education policy that was recently enacted into law, the recruitment of health workers and teachers, the increased Constituency Development Funds which now stands at K40 million, the Social Cash Transfer and the winter cropping programme.
The Head of State urged residents to re-elect him into power for the second term and vote for parliamentary, mayoral and local government candidates standing under the United Party for National Development (UPND) ticket in the general elections on August 13th , 2026.
He specifically requested the residents of Luangwa to support the Parliamentary candidate Danford Makayi, Mayoral Candidate Loveness Banda and Councillors in all the 17 wards of Feira Constituency.
