Government has declared a five-day period of national mourning in honor of former Vice-President, Guy Scott, who passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at the age of 82.
President Hakainde Hichilema has granted the late Dr Scott a state funeral in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation.
This is contained in a statement issued today to the media in Lusaka today by the Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa.
Mr Kangwa stated that the national mourning period will run from Thursday, July 16, to Monday, July 20, 2026.
Mr Kangwa said the late Dr Scott will be buried on Monday, July 24, at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka following a state funeral service at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross.
Mr Kangwa revealed that the Church service is scheduled to commence at 10:00, marking the nation’s final farewell to one of its most prominent public servants.
He stated that members of the public wishing to pay their respect can attend the funeral gathering, which will be held at Belvedere Lodge along Leopard’s Hill Road in Kabulonga in Lusaka district.
‘’During the national mourning period, flags across the country are to fly at half-mast between 6:00 and 18:00 hours,’’ read the statement in part.
He further said President Hichilema has granted Dr Scott a state funeral in recognition of his distinguished professional and political contribution to the nation.
