Mupopo wins Gold at 2015 All Africa Games

The multi-talented Kabange ‘Kalaba’ Mupopo has won Zambia’s first female track Gold at the 2015 All-Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville.

Mupopo won Gold in the 400 meters womens final on Tuesday in Brazzaville.

“The race wasn’t difficult. It (The win) takes me higher to challenge other people not only in Africa but in Europe. I am just very happy for my Gold medal,” Mupopo told the BBC Sport.

Mupopo also won the 2014 African womens 400 meters championship title in her first year in competitive athletics after switching from the pitch to the track but later reached the semifinals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Mupopo is also Shepolopolo captain and is know as Kalaba thanks to her pace and devastating skill on the pitch.

She joins boxer Ben Muziyo on Zambia’s medal list in Congo-Brazzaville who won Bronze last week after reaching the Middleweight semifinals.

  1. Well done young lady, I am glad you are now trying to test yourself beyond the dark continent.

Make sure you look after your career and finances very well.

    Congratulations. We all love winners.

    • Amazing a gold medal mwa Lungu?? That lady deserves a presidential welcome and dinner.
Where is Nawakwi to honor this Mupopo?

  2. She needs to leave Zambia. Zambians are very unsupportive people even relatives don’t give you support unless there’s money involved for them. The culture dooms and thwarts people’s ambitions.

  3. AND IS KNOW AS KALABA , WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS STATEMENT? ARE WE SAYNG SHE IS GROWING A STICK IN BETWEEN HER LEGS

  4. The people who who heading sports in Zambia are self centered we cant send all those contingent just to come with only medal from Muziyo and Mupopo . now ask how many people went there with allowerences. how do you expect the country to develop like that?.
Chileshe has destroyed boxing in the country he tribalism, regionalism etc. useless man has the boxing have before from the time he took over office the sport has gone down , the should have expected a lot of Medals from boxing only one and that is not gold ,

  5. I watched the race I must say she was head and shoulders above the rest they were far behind her. She won it superbly.

Even the 4 X 100 ladies relay was good even if our ladies came out fifth. Mupopo again showed her class but then it was a relay and the other ladies are just not in her class. Well done to Mupopo now its Rio 2016. It is sad that in all these years all Zambia has got to show for at the Olympics is a silver won by Matete and sadly government after government just see no reason to elevate sports, all they see is football.
