Father arrested for trying to sell two daughters at K15 million each

Share

Police in Mpulungu have arrested a 50 year old man of Musende Village for attempting to sell his two daughters at K15 million each.

Both Mpulungu police and District Social Welfare Officer, Sebastian Passuwa confirmed the development and named the culprit as Juma Chishimba, originally a resident of Kazembe Village in Luapula Province.

Chishimba allegedly attempted to sell his two little girls, identified as Maureen Kazembe and Magrime Lukwesa, who are nine and four years old respectively, because, according to him, he had suffered a lot and wanted some money to buy a house and become rich, using the K30 million he would have realized from the transaction.

Chishimba was apprehended yesterday at Mbita Rest House, where the transaction was planned to take place, after officers from the Department of Social Welfare, Child Protection Unit, tricked him that they had found him a buyer for his two children.

In an interview with today, Social Welfare Officer, Passuwa said on Wednesday, he was approached by George Ali Mwale, a Muslim who told him that there was a man who had approached his organization saying that he wanted to sell them some children.

‘’ That was when we made arrangements to meet this man and after we confirmed that he was indeed serious with his business idea, we tipped the police and one of the officers pretended to be a buyer from Dubai and we were to act as middlemen,’’ Passuwa stated.

According to Passuwa, Juma chishimba said he wanted to sell the children to Muslims in Mpulungu, who he believed were in turn, going to sell the children in Dubai or Tanzania, adding that in Kazembe Village where he hails from, many people had sold their children in the same manner and were now rich.

He said, Chishimba initially wanted to sell the children in Kitwe or Mufurila on the Copperbelt, where he said he unfortunately had no connections to do the selling.

‘’ At mbita Rest House, Juma voluntarily signed that he was ready to sell the children to the police officers whom he thought were businessmen from Dubai, convinced by their dressing and language. An installment of K500, 000 was given to him, which he hurriedly pocketed and agreed that he would be paid the rest of the money at the bank,’’ Passuwa narrated.

Passuwa said this is the second reported case of child trafficking in Mpulungu, saying the first was reported in 2007 when two men sold a child at K20, 000,000.

The two men were later convicted by the Mpulungu Magistrates court and committed to the high court.

They are currently serving 26 year jail terms each, but the little innocent child has never been seen again.

Passuwa said there is need for massive sensitization in communities on child trafficking in Mpulungu, saying just like child sexual abuse cases were in the past muted, a lot of child-trafficking is going on unreported in the district.

Passuwa said that, because of sensitization, child sexual abuse cases have been curbed, adding that, in the same vein, child-trafficking cases can be ended through massive sensitization.

He called for the establishment of a child care facility where to keep the abandoned children in Mpulungu where he said there is currently no place to care for the children who are abused or abandoned by their parents or guardians.

‘’ Four children have been reported abandoned by their parents at present, but luckily two of these are keeping up at Senior Chief Tafuana’s palace, while the other two are being looked after by some kind neighbors in their respective villages.

Juma chishimba is currently in police custody and will soon appear in court for child-trafficking.

  1. The love for money is the root of all evil, as the holy scripture says. This man has now enough time to ask himself what is more valuable: two healthy daughters or K15 million?

  2. What!!! your own children you suffered for? I think this man is mad .Please cut off his captain so that he stops producing children for sale. Jail him for life. mambala iwe.

  3. Akapowe kaabisana. I think even the mother to that girl in slumdog millionaire wanted to do the same. But kulibamwenye it is normal not pa Zed. So limbi mudala alikongola amabotolo yakachasu.

  4. Hmm are these his children why do they have different surnames? the story would have been different if he approached real human traffickers. The real question is why did he approach the muslim ? I know muslims have one of the largest human trafficking rings in the world.

  5. Our government should ask itself what has gone wrong? all including our president would not have been sold at that time, yet Zambian was ruled by “Ba Mwisa!” but now, because of desperation, we have started selling even our own offspring and yet there exists one politician who still thinks that our government is performing. This leaves me wondering! are we as a people so foolish not o tell wrong from right and not the reverse? because Africa, Zambia inclusive is but full of wrongs and our fathers and grandfathers are taking the same path our great grandfathers took, of selling their own people ans starving their own people!!!!!! its a great shame!!!!!If our government was good and caring they could have made it easy for people, those working to earn a good pay.

  6. LT even if you do not want my posting, you are just being unjust to yourselves ALA! You behave as though are not born of women! kupuusa!!!!!

  7. And when all those innocent kids end up in the Muslim world they will be used as slaves even for sexual favours. And what are we Christians doing about this?Probably arguing with each other about who is the best while this much needed miistry is neglected.

  8. Shikulu iwe naiwe pa Zed its all about the billions why not 15 billion each?

Its like going to steal sweet mu Shoprite instead of dish washer.

Am not an advocate of selling people but come on if you are going to do it or attempt it big! Ati 15 million yebo? Abanobe bato iba 10 billion webo utoulisha 15 m?

  9. That is insanity at its best trying to sell children. On the other hand, the govt is to be blamed for such activities as they have reduced people to the level of chickens, and this is reason enough why villagers are bought with simple SUGAR to vote for MMD. The root cause of this ugliness needs to be addressed so that people can have a life, and not only few thugs enjoying the wealth of the Country.

  10. Not interesting story LT, this was a well planned move by police why did they ask him to sell his two daughters.
    fake news LT

  20. Kwena mu calo cino mwaba amashilu zo-ona.Iam sure this man is not himself.Ala bane those of you with lovely children take a good care of your children, for children are a blessing from God.Some of the pipo yern to have children while silly pipo like Chishimba wants to sell his children coz of wanting to get rich.Pipo lets also be content with what we have. The Bible says Contentment is a great gain.

  21. Chikomeni waka ichi chimbuya. Ungagulisa bana bako iwe chimunthu chawakawaka. Kutemwa makopala uku nkuheni chomene.

  22. OMG…thats reall sad..no parent in his right mind can do this sure..he cant be normal.. Lord, please dont give children to evil people , rather let the desparate barren women be mothers that seek you night and day to concieve

  23. and how many poor africans are selling their offsprings to Voo doo priest for mutti rituals, thinking they’d get rich by sacrificing their childrens life for riches… Arabs might buy the children to use their body parts as spare parts for their sick children, themselves or relatives or sell the “spare parts” to the rich who are on waiting list to get body parts from “donors”….etc

  24. Ku Mpulungu kuli ma mafia. No matter how bad the economic situation one cannot think of trading children for US$6,000. Dreaming of becoming rich by selling children. That man must be punished. It appears slave trade is still there in modern form. Whats wrong with our friends from Middle East. They started slave trade and now they have modified it. This thing is taking place and the Govt should be seen to take drastic steps to curb it before its too late. There is need to sensitize parents and guardians country wide. We have heard of satanisim etc. enough is enough its the duty of the state to guarantee security to every citizen and all foreigners living in Zambia. Mr. Francis Kabonde` this is home work for your men do not arrest wrong doers in Lusaka only but cast your net country wide.
