OASIS supporting group in Kafue to shun NCC

Share

A pressure group in Kafue supporting the Oasis Forum has vowed that it will not participate in the National Construction Conference (NCC) because  the whole process is not democratic and is a share waste of resources and time.

Group leaer, Clement Katongo, said that even those who are re-joining the NCC are
doing so because  they are just after  huge allowances which the government has
promised to give them.

He said whatever document the NCC will come up with, it will be subjected to
criticism and may not stand the test of time.

Mr. Katongo charged that the whole process has been hijacked by politicians  who
have already manipulated for their own benefits and not for the nation.

He said if the politicians were interested in the constitution making process they
should have consulted all stakeholders before passing the act.

Mr. Katongo said that the Oasis Forum had all the answers to the constitution making
process rather than the politicians who are deliberately delaying the process for
their personal interests.

He said the representation of the civil society was not much as compared to that of
government which at the end of the day will influence the outcome of the process.

  1. Mr Katongo
You should understand that some realistic and progressive organisations under the OASIS forum have chosen to participate in the NCC.

If you must know this country is a parliamentary democracya and our politicians are the most representative of the ordinary people because they are periodically subjected to a vote. They are vote by a cross section of people which include members of the OASIS forum. On the other hand most NGO faces are elected only by a tiny membership.

Thes constitution issue is not a preserve of politicians and NGO’s It is much bigger than the two and touches the lives of every Zambian.

It is sad to see people like Mr Katongo misled by The OASIS Forum.

  2. Thankyou Mr Katongo for coming out so brave, let the NCC go ahead and produce the cabbage constitution and ignore what #1 says, he’s an MMD party cadre

  3. Leave them waste time. We will change the consistution again. So it will only stand a taste of their time. Tabomfwa. The wrongs have been pointed out and yet they still stick to their guns. I do not understand why.

  4. 2# Ba Mushindike uwafwa taishindika
I don’t know what is so brave about Mr Katongo’s position. Please do not trivialise this issue. In any case it is cowardice not to partcipate.

If you are men of calibre go there and be heard.I am sure you know that all issues will be subjected to a vote which is secret ballot.

  5. What’s going on with these so called NGOs? Why can’t these chaps under FODEP team up with Oasis forum to have one goal on the issue of NCC? From the look of things ba FODEP kwati are being bought and used by MMD to stir up confuse on the NCC mawndini and it’s only stupid chaps like Fact who thinks that Oasis forum is retrogressing the process and yet he knows for sure that MMD is dillydallying the all process.

  6. # Ba Joze

KUKU and Jose had gone into self imposed exile. Sinse Joze has resurfaced I am sure Kuku and AM are around the corner.

  11. Diplomacy and Mugabe
Condemning Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is counterproductive and international powers should instead put their weight behind regional diplomatic efforts to unseat him, says a Tanzanian president.

Speaking to the Financial Times in Paris, Jakaya Kikwete insisted the diplomatic approach favoured by African leaders “will pay dividends” and said it should be given more time.

Kikwete said: “Tanzania is standing by the people of Zimbabwe, including President Mugabe.

“We subscribe to the idea of working with them to get a solution, because if you end up condemning and insulting Mugabe, he will not listen to you.

“Mugabe is there. He is president; he has been elected. If Tanzania said, ‘You are hopeless! A murderer! A violator of basic human rights!’ does that remove Mugabe from office? It doesn’t.”

Kikwete added that bringing an end to Mugabe’s reign in Zimbabwe would provide a solution in itself only “if you think the problems in Zimbabwe are solely related to President Mugabe”.

According to him: “Our approach has been, ‘let’s make these people talk’,” referring to discussions hosted by South Africa between Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party and opposition groups.

“We want to see the next elections conducted on a level playing field: free, fair and peaceful … That will give the people of Zimbabwe an opportunity to choose a leader of their choice,” added Kikwete.

Kikwete’s comments came ahead of a December summit of European Union and African leaders in Lisbon. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown had already said that he would not attend the summit if Mugabe is present.

Zimbabwe was in the throes of an economic crisis with the world’s highest rate of inflation and four out of five people jobless. Some 80% of the population lived below the poverty threshold.

Separately, Kikwete added that if investigations into the 2002 sale of a radar system by BAE Systems to Tanzania for $57.1bn was corruptly inflated, Tanzania would seek compensation.

He added: “I don’t know how to get the money but if the radar is overpriced, definitely we deserve to be paid … They cannot take money from a poor country.”

  12. #10 oooh! there was also AM ayi? Maybe the guys have relocated to Bangweulu swamps to catch the last fish before the fish ban is effected.

  13. I belive in the Law of Attraction which states that thoughts create reality.

But i am finding it difficult to believe that #12 is the real Kuku. This must be an imposter!!

I have not seen KUKU for a long time on the blog, and it is difficult to believe that the real KUKU mukwai has resurfaced 8 minutes after talking about him!!
    Abash Imposters.

  14. #13
The real Kuku is a blogger of substance. He would have resurfaced with an interesting and creative school of thought on the subject and not with a cut and paste approach.

    #11 Must be an imposter.

  15. #11 You chap, dont you know that impersonation is a criminal offence pa zed? eh?

There are 26 letters of the english alphabet plus digits 0 to 9 and a whole range of other special characters. There are so many pemutations that can come out of this. Surely you can come with a name for yourself? eh?

  16. The topic (#10) sounds “kukish” though. The real Kuku is also a fan(atic) of Mugabe!! Anyway, lets wait and see.

  17. ah!! Sorry mudaala. Kanshi nimwebo. I missed you mudaala (check posting #9). I am sure you have now diversified your business and are now reaping the fruit of your labour.

Mudaala Joze achiba pa Blog nomba fye imiponto just like you know him. Anyway welcome.

  18. The good thing about the Oasis forum is that its a coalition of the willing. member organizations are free to make their own independent decisions. What you are gonna see is that 90% of organizations that makes up the Oasis will elect to participate in the NCC. And that my friends will spell the demise of the Oasis. We will say Oasis forum died of natural couses. I believe there contencious issues regarding the NCC and the whole constitution making process. But we should sit down as a people and resolve these issues. The truth is not everyone will agree on everything. You know if everybody is thinking the same way somebody aint thinking. Whenever, there is more than one person at the table there has to be diverse views. But you dont walk away from the table. You give and take untill you reach a “compromise”. Sometimes you even agree to disagree. We may not trust LPM. I dont trust him either. but majority rules. People voted for him, they trusted him with running of the country…

  19. Do i think he is the best guy ? absolutely not. Do i trust him? Nope. But he has the mandate, the best thing we can do is sit and negotiate probably LPM sees oasis point of view. But you do not boycott. Whats flabbergasting is that people like Mr Sata would be accusing his MPs of being a fraud. This guy new the and read the contents of the bill before it went to parliament. PF sat and resolved to go and vote for the bill. Mr Sata you cant turn arround and accuse your MPs of being a fraud. friends we can not tolarate this kind of leadership which cant take responsibility. How about Oasis and PF just admiting that they were forcused on who appoints the NCC chairman and overlooked the actuall composition of the NCC.

  20. #20 Socrates

I like your line of thoughts and the way you articulate, not ka Fact akapuba kamwana. Sox,keep it up.

  21. Come on gentleman LPM has done good in some areas. LPM has brought the value of education in politics. The majority in his cabinet is comprised of university graduates and that is what we need! now about the fool ” seatle washington?” who asked, “If LPM had forgiven chiluba.” Imagine someone is given the opportunity to ask LPM a question and that is what comes out of his sorry mouth? no wonder stupidity can never be fixed?

  22. Born Rich..! yeap inkoko… ooh sorry ba kuku makes the debts interesting? it’s either you love him or hate him! are you aware that kuku does not have arms and he’s wife is the one who does the typing on the blog for him? ask him!

  23. I supported LPM for having had the guts and integrity to resign from government when he was VP and citing corruption as the main reason.People at the time thought it could have been ideal for him to influence cabinet deliberations and instill some integrity from within unlike abandoning government which was in it`s infancy. His position was that his integrity could be dented because of collective agreement which is undertaken by cabinet and worse still behind the scenes dealings that where taking place. It`s for this reason that I support the OASIS stand that they don`t want to be used as a rubber stamp on something that has a futile end.The OASIS is going through what LPM went through at the time but honoured later on for having had the ability and wisdom to see through what the rest of the public didn`t understand.

  24. Now, Nyatanga U-turns over Kalusha’s job

    By CHAPADONGO LUNGU
ZIMBABWE Football Association (ZIFA) board chairman, Wellington Nyatanga, has described as “nonsense and fabrication” a story that appeared in a foreign publication purporting that Zambia’s soccer icon Kalusha Bwalya applied to coach Zimbabwe.

Kick Off online publication reported on Thursday that Nyatanga confirmed that Kalusha had submitted his curriculum vitae for consideration for the vacant Zimbabwe coaching job.

But Nyatanga dismissed the report in a telephone interview from Harare, saying he never discussed the issue with anyone and was surprised that he was widely quoted.

Nyatanga, who sounded upset, admitted meeting Kalusha in South Africa at the weekend but said he did not discuss anything with the soccer star.

“Yes I went up to greet Kalusha in South Africa and we didn’t talk anything. Maybe people saw me talking to him and thought he was talking about the job of the coach.

“That is nonsense. There’s nothing of that nature and I’ll pursue and know whoever did the story. I will take it up from there,” Nyatanga said.

Kick Off quoted the ZIFA board chairman stating that Kalusha had submitted his curriculum vitae for consideration for the vacant coaching job left by Charles Mhlauri in July.

“It’s a hotly-contested job. Kalusha Bwalya has already submitted his CV. We should be making a decision when we hold our board meeting probably next week,” Nyatanga was quoted by Kick Off.

But Kalusha denied the report, saying he was concentrating on administration having given up his coaching career last year.

Kalusha said he has not applied for the job in Zimbabwe and had no immediate plans to restart active coaching.

He said he has had five job offers since quitting as Zambia coach but has turned them down because his focus was on administration.
