Zambia defends decision to discontinue Katumbi’s corruption cases

Share

moise_katumbi.jpgGovernment has defended its decision to discontinue and close all corruption cases against Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC Katanga Province Governor Moses Katumbi due to diplomatic ties that exist between Zambia and that country.

Chief Government Spokesperson Mike Mulongoti said the move was purely for economic interests and peace between the two countries, saying the choice was for Zambia to either paralyse its economy by having conflicts with the DRC or to resolve all standing matters amicably

Mr. Mulongoti who was speaking in an interview with Journalists in Lusaka today explained that Mr. Katumbi ceased to be an ordinary citizen when he won the elections as Governor saying it was not good to pursue one of the country’s neighbour’s Government figure.

Mr. Mulongoti who is also Minister of Information said Government weighed the situation, of either maintaining friendliness with DRC or to be at loggerheads.

Government’s move to discontinue Katumbi’s case has triggered public outcry with some sections of society contending that this will dent its corruption crusade.

And Mr. Mulongoti has said it is good to see that the citizens of Zambia have decided to forge ahead with the constitution making process by participating in the National Constitution Conference-NCC.

Mr. Mulongoti said delegates to sit on NCC will articulate what they feel is right for the country and to carry the mandate of the people they represent.

He pointed out that it is not good for some people to say they were going there to fight someone saying they should simply admit that they were wrong in the first place to snub the NCC.

Delegates to the NCC yesterday commenced registration at Mulungushi International Conference.

Government has invited various stakeholders to take part in the NCC sittings although some organisations have rejected the offer.
The NCC sittings will commence next week on 19 December

  1. Well well, indeed there we go. Why not also discontinue FTJ’s cases. He is the former president and it is not good to antagonize former heads of state. This indeed is stupid reasoning. Anyway, this is Africa. Selective application of justice. I see charges against Jacob Zuma in SA to be dropped as soon as he is elected as ANC president. What a continent! All criminals have to do is seek govt power and they are safe. All their bad past erased.

  2. So Mr “Money Man” is safe at last. It is indeed embarrassing. As Mr Chanda Phiri said, Msholozi (Zuma) will walk free once elected as ANC leader. once a political leader once a king.

  3. Advise to those that want to form next govt. Please focus on delivery. LPM has spent his two terms chasing his predecessor. And this is all he has to show for it. A horrible and costly circus.

  4. Ok guys lets face it.Looking at the pace and the way we’ve handled local cases with our own local people, do you honnestly think Zambia was going to be a ble to lay its hands on Katumbi? I think not!
While i think its a shameful thing for the Govt to compromise with Katumbi, i cant resist to think its partly smart coz its gonna save us time and money chasing a person we very well know we cant catch.

  5. Nice Zed.
Diplomatic ties people. If i was not a zedian,i w’d do smuggling and so on to and from zed.I know for sure that zed w’d not punish me.Afterall we are in good diplomatic ties,so i can stand above the law.Am not a former head of state anyway.ssssssooooo,kulufyanya.
Ahn who knows the guy could have mentioned or reviewed some hidden stuff which could put LPM in trouble?
    Think about it

  6. I feel there is more to Katumbi’s case than meets the eye. The Gvt knows what it is doing. there is some scam that they are shelding which needs to be unearthed. If it doese not happen in Dr LPM s time it will in some other presidents time. What is burried under there should really be smelly that it has affected the whole Gvt. I wonder what the Task force on corruction will now be chasing. Indeed why not discontinue FTJ case. It has wasted a lot of money and made some peaple Rich ( Mtembos).

  7. I dont believe such an action is being instituted by The new deal Government.Does that mean if i commit a crime and i become a political figure somewhere then i will be forgiven? Rightly said by #2 we must forgive FTJ.What a costly venture indeed. We must take LPM to task. This is double standards at its best

  8. Charles Taylor was pardoned for excaping from an an american jail immediately he became head of state in Liberia. These issues are common in many countries but not to say I agree. USA dropped all the charges againest Taylor. I can give many examples. Its not only in Africa.

  9. Nomba ati shani inkongole ba Zed govt bakwata isha mataba kuli Katumbi?? I’m sure Katumbi alibika sana Chuchu mu pressure ya nkongole then Chuchu asuka fye azala!

At the same time, Chinese ba pa C/Belt have never ceased pleading with Chuchu coz their copper businesses came to a stand still the moment Katumbi halted the flow of copper ores from Katanga to Zed.

Awe kanshi ama Chinese baliya mukulila kuli Chuchu, hence the throwing our of Katumbi case.

    Welldone Moses.

  10. This exactay what V.J was trying to do out there in the Congo, which got him fired. Now the Govt is going back and trying to the same with it’s tail between the legs shame..

  11. Ba Lefi balekitile defend Galendou kindo mba pulishi uyu umwina Saire Katumbi tekuti bamundifele? Ba Lefi kine kine bakukyaliki penape.

    Fifa ba lpm

  12. Its really a shameful thing with our govt. They are just like kids. One wonders if their brains work. No individual is above the country. LPM is definitely the most corrupt leader Zambia has ever had. He is a liar, hipocrity and shame to this nation.

  13. I agree with you CCK #9 & citizen #14.It smells like a cover up. It a circus & very costly too in time & money. The past 7 years and billions of Kwacha are gone (in the name of anti corruption fight) never to be recovered . I just hope the next Pres wont spend seven years plus chasing LPM. However, history has a nasty habit of repeating itself.

  14. Sorry if this is inappropriate but I’m desperate for help.
Anyone knows the contact numbers for the ministry of health HQ? I tried the Zambia High Commission in London but it’s been 3 days since they promissed to get back to me. Phones and email are unanswered. I am looking for fax and tel numbers. Can’t access MOH website. Thanks for your help.

  15. Last week, LPM was courting Zambians living abroad to invest in Zed. With such things happening, one will definately think twice. Where will the ordinary Zedian run to if the govt is protecting hard core thugs? Surely our leaders are a let down. A thief is a thief regardly of his/her colour or status in the society. God help us.

  16. Last week, LPM was courting Zambians living abroad to invest in Zed. With such things happening, one will definately think twice. Where will the ordinary Zedian run to if the govt is protecting hard core thugs? Surely our leaders are a let down. A thief is a thief regardless of his/her colour or status in the society. God help us.

  17. Zambia does not have a direction as a country so I am surprised that people are amazed at what is happening in Katumbi’s case.

  18. Citizen # 14 you are right VJ knew that the case was a non starter for as long as Katumbi remained Governor in Congo. Kibila should also have something to do with plunder in Zambia. Why did he not fire Katumbia or his waive immunity for him to be procecuted in Zambia.

  19. LBS Katumbi is not fireable. He is an elected governor. The system in DRC is modeled like the USA system where governors are elected by people and not political appointees. kabila has no power over Katumbi and his Katanga province. The irony here is Zambia needs Katanga and Katumbi (KK) more than they need the entire DRC. As a country we do more business with KK than the rest of DRC. Remember the trucks stuck at the borders? Well apparently we need KK copper to meet the demand….

  20. Most business men would not do business directly with DRC becuase of the wars lack of a reliable banking system and just the fact that there is no guarantee you will get your products or if you are lucky come out alive. Zambians have been cashing in based on this premise. Zambians set up businesses that get copper from KK and the international business come to by KK copper from Zambia. Its a dicee situation. LPM had to weigh the cost and the benefit tto Zambia.

  21. FTJ said part of KK family got money and property out of ZAMTROP. Some naive pipo including the Post thought Task Force doesnt know and Chiluba was incriminating himself, hell Noooo… They already are aware. FTJ meant to show the selective prosecution of the new dealers whose aim is simply fix Kafupi and those close to him. Now here we are with Katumbi. We are cheated. Now we have LPM, the Ncitos, the Post eating seemingly eating together. Can they publish how much has been spent so far! Shame!

  22. # 23 Socrates thanks for enlightening me on the DRC governance system. Good blogging. We need to enlighten each other in order to express informed opinions. I did know that DRC had respect for institutions of Governance. It now seems like Katumbi become governor to protect himself from the law.

  23. FIRST, THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT FOR SHOWING THE TRUE COLOURS OF YOUR POSITION. THANK YOU ALSO FOR YOUR MINISTRIES WHO GOING TO FALL WITH YOU SOON.
ZAMBIAN WAKE UP. THE FIRST LADY AND HER FAMILY MEMBERS HAS TRANSPORT BUSINESSES GOING INTO DRC. WHEN THE DRC OFFICIALS CLOSED THE BOARDERS SOME FEWS MONTHS AGO. MR KATUMBI WAS GETING BACK ON THEM BECAUSE OF WHAT THE ZAMBIAN GOVT DID TO THIS EMPIRE.
TODAY IF THE GOVT DECIDED TO CLOSE THE CASE OF MR KATUMBI WHO NOT EVEN ONCE APPEARED IN COURT IN ZAMBIA

  24. OR LONDON COURT WHICH IS VERY FAKE. THE GOVT SHOULD CLOSE ALL THE CASES OF NATIONAL PLUNDERING.
TODAY THE GOVT ARE MIS-USING TAXPAYERS MONEY CHASING PEOPLE FULLY KNOWING THEY WILL NEVER BRING THEM TO COURT.
MR PRESIDENT, ALL MINISTRIES IN ZAMBIA. THE DAYS OF LYING TO GOD’S PEOPLE ARE OVER. FROM THE PRESIDENT, SPEAKER, MPs, TASK FORCE, ACC. POLICE OFFICE, GOVT OFFICIALS INCLUDING OPPOSITION MPs, NON-ORGANISTIONAL CLAIMING TO DEFEND THE S.O.W OF ZAMBIA ARE OVER.11.12.07

  25. NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN WILL YOU HIDE FROM YOUR MISDEEDS, THE FIRST LADY CANT NOT HIDE ANYMORE BEHIND THE PRESIDENT.

CLOSING THE DRC GATE WAS THE WAR BETWEEN MR.KATUMBI’ EMPIRE AND THE FRST LADY’ EMPIRE ON THE EXPENSES OF THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE.

  26. THE POST WILL NEVER INFORM THE PUBLIC THE TRUTH ABOUT FTJ CASE, KATUMBI, AND OTHERS,
FIRST THE EDITOR IS GAY. WHEN THE ZAMBIAN WANTS TO KNOW THE TRUE, HE IS WRITE LYING(WHEN A MAN, BORN TO LOVE A LADY,LOVE FELLOW MAN) YOU DO YOU EXPECT FRED TO WRITE THR TRUTH. WHEN GOOG MAN ARE LOOKING AT WOMEN, HE IS BUSY LOOKING AT BACKSIDE OF MEN. SHAME.
I HAVE JUST COME TO THE POINT THAT, FRED MUST HAVE LIKE SOMETHING ABOUT FTJ AND FTJ TRIED TO REBUKE THAT spirit OUT OF MAN. WAR BROKE OUT BETWEEN THE TWO.

  27. What a lame excuse for not enforcing justice! Whats fair to one must be fair to all so lets stop all the corruption charges on all the thieves in Zambia!

  28. Kitwean, thank you for the info even though you seem very agree. I understand the frustration. So this is what it is all about? So governor Katumbi is free for the sake of the No. 1 lady’s business? I wish Zambians could do something immediately, but they cant. Even ACC which is suppose to follow up is being demoralised. Someone said “umutombwa temya kulu”, Zambians are “tombwas” or raped and just watch. Days are numbered

  29. MULOMGOTI IS JUST ANOTHER BOY IN MMD. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY OUR GOVM’T SHOULD DANCE TO THE TUNE OF A LITTLE GUY LIKE MOSES. HOW MUCH DO YOU GUYS OWE THIS MAN WHICH YOU CANT PAY HIM? WE KNOW THERE IS MORE TO IT BUT IT IS NOT SUPRISING BECAUSE WE ARE IN THE NEW DEAL ERA. ANYWAY YOU CAN CONTINUE SWEEPING THE DIRT UNDER THE CARPET BUT 2011 WILL UNVEIL THE ALL THE RUBBISH.

  30. Surely where are we going as country with people like Mulongoti as ministers. fair enough, cabinet may have rightly decided to drop the charges for economical reasons but the chap lacks communication skills for such sensitive tasks. He’s a very handcapped spinner, infact he’s an embarrancement to the nation. Like #3 ORIGINAL PUNDIT am very embarrassed to be a Zambian at the moment.

  31. We have ourselves to blame on whatever befalls our nation for electing greedy people that do not care about our welfare? continue voting and see where it will take you? voting is a waste of time in zambia with the current system. i wish our government would also be auctioned to the highest bidder? umuntu wafitaa… awaye mwandi.. lord have mercy!

  32. Sad for all us commoners, especially that it is literally impossible to know the whole truth and nothing but the truth from our politians.
Unfortunately where money politics get entangled with governance the later always loses. A good example is the recent British Government refusal to investigate serious corruption issues involving the sell of military wares to Saudi Arabia.
Let us accept our misfortune this time around.
    Zambias peace is priceless.

  33. LPM thought he could fight the battle, what has happened is that LPM has found his name tied to all the Corruption issues and the use of government money for 2001 elections. The evidence is so overwelming that he can’t go scot free. Thats why FTJ will not keep quite anymore. In addition, you will never see Chungu untill LPM is out of office, because in some cases, money was given to LPM in his presence. It is painful to be Zambian and realise that development is still far!!

  34. Untill we build a Generation of kids debating from a point of knowledge and enlightment, power and affluence will remain a preserve and interchangable role of the same privileged. Is it strange for Governments to compromise with a suspect for some decoy services against the prime suspects? Katumbi is key to all crimes under Chiluba. No one did Chiluba and Chungu vested in more than Katumbi. A compromise if committed to be a Decoy is part of criminal and prosecution strategy.

  35. Beloved fellow bloggers, l would like to dedicate you a song entitled ‘MWE MAKUFI’ by Nathan Nyirenda. Like it not theres something really amiss with us africans/blacks and until we realise this and find a solution, we shall go nowhere. Believe me, we can swap continents with whites today, tommorow we will be lining up to get visas to africa. Europe would be ravaged in two days.

  36. Beloved fellow bloggers, l would like to dedicate you a song entitled ‘MWE MAKUFI’ by Nathan Nyirenda. Like it or not theres something really amiss with us africans/blacks and until we realise this and find a solution, we shall go nowhere. 37. Look through the Executive and Judiciary files of consecutive Presidents in the USA. Get back here and share with your friends the number and gravity of hot deals these Administrations are on record of entering into with suspects.Know this “the enemy of my friend or my then enemy is my friend” where rational interest is met.Reagan had Col.Oliver North caught up in the graviest Iran contra involving Billions against the USA congress.Today Col.North is serving the nation behind the back ground.

  38. cont. threfore i would like to suggest a topic on this blog themed ‘Damness of our race and the way forward/solutions for survival’. Lets debate it the level headedness it deserves.

  39. Government has retained all withheld properties from katumbi during investigation period totalling Billions at no legal recourse. He had a lot of reserves now frozen with Banks of which there will be no claim except the truck of Diamonds. Besides that, katumbi is giving up all files on his Chiluba-Chungu matrix. what more security interest can a Government expect from a willing suspect.Had Chiluba accepted to retain the plundered resources, the story could have been different.

  40. In Uganda, President Museveni is compromising with a cult head John Koni a man with 20 years of murdering Ugandans. This compromise is against the International criminal court decree in hague.Koni is on the interpol wanted list but national interest overrides it all. In Zambia, the State through security wings with the Executive have found it prudently in the best national interest to compromise with Katumbi in the willing to actualise national interset.

  41. Such decisions can never be at the discretion of the open society or blogs. Zambia like any other state has security wings that assess national interest and security on a daily basis which they debrief the Head of state 3 times every day. They deal with authentic facts and not speculations confusing street men.

  42. Ya right ,you can only fight the battle if you’re not desperate and poor, thats why all revoultionaries like the castros and them have no practical concept of poverty!

  43. # 49,
Your knowledge of revolution is too bankrupt.Nowhere in world history have “Plutocrats” ever been revoultionaries. From Ernesto Guevara de la Serna to Castro’s or the orange tents in the Eastern block, the poor charged the plans of change. As much as you want to look like you are rich, you are bankrupt on knowledge. In Zambia, the people who facilitated the 1991 change, are people who you unwittingly may have rubbed shoulders with. They risked and have the blue print to critical mass.

  44. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT BE CHEATED BY GOVT ABOUT KATUMBI. THE WAR WAS BETWEEN HIS BUSINESS EMPIRE IN ZAMBIA AND THE FIRST LADY’S TRANSPORT BUSINESS INTO DRC. THAT THE MAIN REASONS WHY THE BOARDER WAS CLOSED BY KATUMBI SOME FEW MONTHS AGO. NO NATIONAL SECUTIY IN THIS MATTERS.

  45. Country pple; When I told ppel of DRC to ignore ZED papers,, you all rose and shouted the loudest and demanded for my blood! Well now you can see, the long sun set! I delivered what Lefi asked me to do and it has worked. Please learned colleaques.. analyse issues & take that extra mile in projecting scenerios and derive logical paths. I have always said, I do not lie nor have ever rigged,,i am just a step ahead!Do u believe i was fired by LPM? watch the space,,, there is more to come out!

  46. What is this ‘ordinary citizen’? Does it mean that only ordinary citizen can be punished for the wrongs and “non-ordinary citizens” can be forgiven? KuKu, are you alive? can you help with some information here please…

  47. zambia is a lawless country even my dog at home knowns
it.I’m not surprise once again with katumbi to be let
off the hook.if i may ask all the zambians?.when is Mr kafupi(knowns as ftj chiluba)going be sent to jail?.as
we all know that he was already convicated by the british courts.

  48. MCM (53),
Brother FACT is rapping up his School mission after which he could on a 3 week stint in the Homeland, before relocation along the way.Just enjoy your blogging life phase with plans.Prepare also for a possible era without FACT here. Roles and responsibilities change based on individual achievements. Some are recalled while the the old retire at 55 per Zambian law. Then the experienced young are transiting into responsible roles. That is life.Blogging should not be life but a season.

  49. Dr Bushi#55, I thought u knew better. Disorganisation is part of the strategy,,,in African politics,, hence the term 3world. Look atZim,,, that is the status of african leadership. It is part of the ploy by the western world. With regard to FTJ, he is not going anywhere…because part of the case is crambling in the eyes of Zedians as you can c,,, Katumbi, Katebe Katota, Katele K etc. I can assure that he who came into power via rigging will rig his way through to 2011,,,

  50. #3 TOP
I agree with you that this is a total disgrace. Why are we always taken for a ride?
We need to make sure that whoever runs for office should be tested and must have a normal CK-BB result.

  51. Ba #3 TOP na Ba Chapi,
You both are being too hypocritical to say they least. If you are that abhorrent to Governments compromises, Why haven’t you left the USA in the face of their enumerable moral hiccups and compromises through out history that give them gains in self interest?

Are you that primitive or poor to compromise your conscious? We risk being more irrelevant in the public domain if our words reflect this consistency.

  52. Africa Twasebana!! Katumbi mwapusukeni! “..apana kintu dii”. I am sure Moses is commenting to our Zambian lawyers that..”pa nsanka tapabula chiwele wele”, to grant him ubuntungwa. Since we no longer have sansetional writers like late Kapwepwe, our musicians like Wile or V.Kachaka (where are you?) will call Katumbi names. Ba HH & Gen.Miyanda, please check out that there are no copies of Zambian constitution in Lingala or C’iluba.

  53. IAM SICK AND SHOUTING I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY MAYBE WE DROP THE CASES OF FTJ LIKE WHAT KENYA AND PASKITAN HAS DONE TO ITS PLUNDERERS. IAM NO FAN FOR KAFUPI BUT ON THIS ONE GENTLEMEN IAM DOWN TO EARTH TO SUPPORT TITUS AS A ZAMBIAN. YES DR CONGO IS A WAR FACTION COUNTRY BUT THEY DONT SCARE US BECAUSE OF ONE MAN ONE DAY THEY WILL COME AND POSSES EVERYTHING FROM US. FREE TITUS, FREE FRED, FREE JACOB, FREE CHILUBA, FREE KAFUPI SO HE IS INNOCENT. ARREST MUNTEMBA, AREEST NKOLE fur plundering the eco.

  54. See, Most people who become presidents in suspicious ways usually don’t have agendas to pursue. Levi became president through the back door, no plan, so he had to find something to make him look like he was doing something, thats why he started the anti corruption crusade. Just like Bush had no agenda when he took the oval office, he started the war against terrorism. So, Iam not supprised at the turn of events.
I just hope whoever will succeed Levi will make him explain his shordy tenure.

  55. Ba Easy,

Chiluba has neither shown self contrition nor opted for a compromised settlement which Levy has been throwing into his face ever since. So why and how does he get a pardon? Katumbi has offered to betray Chiluba in all deals.

  56. I say shoot them all,the number of lives they have taken away as a result of their selfish ambitions are way too many.If Zambia is scared, am not.Let the Neirbours know that we are not happy, close the borders and by the way,Congo benefits more from us than we do from them. All we get is miles and miles of refugees. They have begun killing each other again and guess what, more refugees are coming our way more crime more shanties and the list goes on and on.

  57. All I can say is that LEVY will dearly pay for syphoning public funds in this way.His days are surely numbered and will face TRUE justice before patriotic Zambians.
The GOV of LAWS(lawlessness) and not MEN(KATUMBI).Give us a break from such hypocrisy.
Nathan Nyirenda was prophetic in his song(MWEMAKAFUFI).

  58. All I can say is that LEVY will dearly pay for syphoning public funds in this way.His days are surely numbered and will face TRUE justice before patriotic Zambians.
The GOV of LAWS(lawlessness) and not MEN(KATUMBI).Give us a break from such hypocrisy.
Nathan Nyirenda was prophetic in his song(MWEMAKUFI).

  59. 1.LPM sworn in as the most unpopular president in Zambian history -2001

10.Is this fight against corruption geniune or not????

  61. Where are we going? Looking at the Katumbi outcome one can see there`s something than eye can see. Because Katumbi knows a lot of underhand operations which took place when he was in Zed no one wants to let this continue, especially Chuchu. Needless to say, watch the events. FTJ will be released because Katumbi is connected to the case. If FTJ goes down Katumbi will be there to threaten Chuchu with revelations. What a shame to Chuchu. He`s a let down & needs to apologise to Zambians not Mlongoti

  62. This z so disgusting. What compromise r these yorkels talking about? They r even sayin Mr Katumbi z free to come & conduct business in Zed,Shame! The ka boy must have threatened them with “spilling the beans” We then have to discontinue all the corruption cases against all the alleged plunderers & save the country huge sums.Am jst disgusted….silly

  63. When LPM came into power he promised to champion the crusade against corruption.7 years down the line the Task Force has got nothing all the doing is chewing money for catching nobody.Richard Sakala is the only guy whos paid the price for second hand cars.
LPM would do well in Hollywood.

  64. Shouldn’t it have made more sence if Government diplomatically chose to remain silent, not entirely closing the cases, until such a time that Katumbi left the DRC government? Ofcourse this as a last resort. I’m certain the decision to close Katumbi’s cases has been reached corruptly.
People, Mwanawasa will suffer much more litigation than Chiluba. He is the most corrupt animal i have ever seen.

  65. Sata said you cannot fight corruption when you a product of corruption yourself. “Levy is a product of corruption”.That point has now been driven home by no other than Levy himself. I agree with fellow bloggers who are calling for a discontinuation of all cases. It horrible costly circus. Just sit behind closed doors & agree to recover what is owed by ” the so called plunderers” at minimal cost. Otherwise this task force business (like NCC) is a “LEGALISED” plunder of national resources itself.

  66. Kitwean, you are an eye openner. So the closing of the borders had to do with MauMau????!!!! Mau and her non-functional hubby will face the wrath of God … not long from today. God, why dont you allow Osama Bin Laden network to sort out these criminals on behalf of defenceless poor Zambians???

  67. FACT & SENIOR CITIZEN: Where are you? You are conspicuously quiet. What have you got to say? Share your views with fellow bloggers.

  68. Ba Citizen(59), what comment can we honestly pass over such news.I’m sure Ba Chapi and I are both gobsmacked.I would like to believe there is more to this than we have been told. Political gymnastics is very difficult to predict but a little voice inside of me says “hold your fire…the real reasons will come out soon enough…in Zambia there are few secrets that can be hidden forever!!”

  69. #74 BIG THING You are damn right about that. This issue could have faded in silencia. Bursting the case dismissal info to Zedians is basically some duping technique so that Chuchu Lefi Patricia is not queried on the copper deals Maureen’s brother is handling with Congo and the Chinese.
Ukwiba pa Zed takwakapwe. Naine nakulaibafye till
Capt. Solo and his firing squad rule Zambia again.

  70. haptpy to see how things can start to unfold in the right direction, must thank all for you positive stance and comments. remember what l said about the london judgment, if we can allow other nations to affect our goverment welfare negetively, then we do not have leaders to look to. where are the so called NGOs in zambia? always making noise, especially when it comes to the attacks on Chiluba, they must be in the fore front to demant a public explanation from the president.tell us the truth.

  71. Pragmatist, I was not talking about the actual masses of people but the heads of these revolutions, chiluba was not a poor man standing at the market, he had some claught, castro was a son of a spanish rich merchant and so was che guevara ‘el che! had enough money to sponser revolutions.
levy has learnt and seen how money works so hes at the mercy of those who have it.
If katumbi was a pauper, governor or not things would be different.
the man has it all and knows the zambian secrets too!

  72. #18 MALAIKA…you said you need phone and fax numbers for MOH. Email me on [email protected] and I will send them to you. If its urgent just sms on +61400813803 ( Australia) I was in Zambia in July and I had a chance to get the new phone directory

  73. Ba Citizen(82),what use is the “apparent vindication”..he is still fired with no way back. You cannot be economical with the truth to ANY president and expect to keep your job!!!

  74. Ba Big Thing(74),what has LPM done corruptly??All people have been making are innuendos and any court action post LPM will amount to ZERO!!!When you look at FTJ’s corrupt activities they are plain to see and can be enumerated whereas LPM all we hear about is UNZA land which is a very tired story. The moment anything TANGIBLE comes out i will support swift and ruthless prosecution of LPM to set precedent!!

  75. Ba Original Pundit #86: There we go again. Are you advocating that LPM’s successor must chase the predecessor (LPM)to come up with something TANGIBLE. What will this new task force be called? Task force on corruption on the 1st task force on curruption to investigate… Playing cat & mouse with state funds. It is a Zambian thing! Aint it? History has a nasty habit of repeating itself. So when are we going to have a President that will do the Job (focus on DELIVERING NEEDS for the electorate)

  76. Ba Theo(87),why we don’t have tangibles on LPM is becoz he was not overwhelmed with the luxury that goes with Plot1!LPM didn’t need Plot1 to travel, wear expensive clothes, drink without counting cost, help out relatives financially or prepare for retirement!Plot1 is not for paupers as FTJ showed.Plot1 is for someone who leaving a legacy is more important than acquiring basic luxuries like designer shoes, watches and suits.Until we find such a man/woman task forces will be the order of the day!!

  77. Ba Original Pundit #88 I sure hope that there will be no tangibles againist LPM because I think we have had enough costly circuses. On finding a man/woman for plot1 I cant agree with you more. There few men like Mandela. I thoght Mbeki might be close but look at the way he is messing himself. He wants to do a 3rd term. They say hindsight is an exact science, perhaps the late A. Wina would have made a better pres than FTJ.Is his widow pres material? Zed might aswell try a woman pres. Lets try them

  78. I thought Lupiya said something strong on arresting Katumbi, now government has changed the position. The fight on corruption is a shame. “If you are rich and strong, you will get away with it”. We have cases of a minister giving our plots to relatives-these are trivial and do not need the publicity. Look at the unaccounted for funds by the government reported by the Auditor General’s Office, who is accountable. The poor cashiers with shortfalls of small amounts are jailed while kings enjoy.

  79. Well done Zambian govt for stopping the stupidity of following somebody you can never bring down. The cost involved diplomatically and economically is so enormous that, we the people of zambia and congo are the losers. The Nchito brothers have become so rich because of your tax money you pay them to persue the criminals they’ve failed to convict in almost 6 years. Now, when Chiluba has decided to talk, his cases will be next to be dismissed. what a waste. Qui rira bien, rira le dernier.

  80. #88 Original Pundit
LPM was heavy indebt b4 being plucked out of the politcal wilderness months b4 becoming pres. Chungu used public funds 2 clear TEKA farms debts with FRA, personal debts with Barclays Zambia and also his lawfirms debts. This needed 2 b done b4 he could file his papers 2 stand 4 pres (ref chungu’s case hearings). I think he had and still has some persnal money with Backlys UK (refer to 2001 nominee papers). But that does not come close to luxuries plot 1 has exposed him to.

  81. Manje imwe Bbana Betu,,, pashilya apo,,Z! Twaikala kumweba ati tuli bana-bbakulu sana,, ifwe.

U C one ting,, pipo,, I am a big pipo in DRC ,, I talk big pipo Europe, USA, France and UK and u say I steal Zam money with FTJ. What money,,, LPM alikwata tompwe ,,, problems sana. This is what you get for having a brainwashed ,,, purezdent and his corrupt aids ,,, lying everyday in order to keep themselves in power and you believe so much in that useless paper ,,, which digs rubbish!! 82. Ba Solution, application of the law differs between the rich and poor..no amount of ranting or raving will ever change this!!Ba Theo(89)i personally discourage looking at widows of politicians as replacements on the premise that what qualifies them to succeed??That is why considering Mrs Mazoka was nothing but a big joke!We should desist from myopic consideration of candidates..if there is one thing FTJ did well was think outside the “box” and choose LPM!We’re a republic not a monarchy !!

  83. LPM has never been fighting corruption. He has been playing to the gallary to gain some political mileage. Now he is lost in the jungle of politics. How do then explain his going to bed with Katele of the laptop fame, Mabenga and alot more. How does his cntinued eating with Mulyata and the like. This govt is one whole circus, full of clowns. Look at Mulongoti, Vera, Tetamashimba, Shakafuswa, Dora. What can you expect from such a batch of minions????

  84. King David(92)if you believe that hogwash I rest my case!!LPM was far from being as insolvent as you have been led to believe!!I shall debate this matter no further..LPM can & will defend himself should the need arise.

  85. #96
FRA was subpeaned to produce Levy’s accounts during the petition and the documentatry evidence showed this. If thats hogwash I dont know better. Records are there to show, in the supreme court of zambia, at the fra offices, come be serious man.

  86. #96 Pundit,
You definately did not follow the petition otherwise you would have know what facts with documentary evidence came out. I dont think it is too late, you can get hold on the info.

  87. #78 Theo
    The 46.5m for NCC is
    1. Plunder because it is too hi and unjustified
    2. Corruption coz it is meant to lure opposition elected officials to tow MMD’s line
    3. Immoral because we need other areas revamped the money can do better there (health, edu ect)
    4. Incompetance because it is a lack of foresite
    5. Fraud coz the end result of NCC is agiainst the majority of Zambians
    6. Illegal the end rerult of NCC will still not be law as it has to go thru partly

  88. # 100,
How Could you be competent yourself in view of the exhibited intellectual deficiencies.check through your troubles with Grama, order of adjectives and reasoning pattern.

  89. Considering Mrs Mazoka was certainly a joke. Inonge Wina is into politics & has been an MP. I was inquiring purely on her own political merit like say Winnie Mandela, Beniza Bhutto or Hilary Clinton have curved out their own politcal careers. If she can match the calibre of these two examples. Well then Why not go for it? The choice Joseph Kabila was also criticized as “monarchistic” but he has proved to much better & sober president DRC has ever had.It is good to debate candidates as 2011 nears

  90. Ba The Original Pundit (84),
I doubt government ministries & departments will wake up one day to close off bank accounts from ZANACO to Finance Bank without being sanctioned by the President.
I eqally doubt that government ministries and departments will wake up one day to transfer all their insurance policies from ZSIC to Professional Ins. without the knowledge of head of state.
If these are not scandals given the relationship between between LPM and Mathani, i dont know what U make of them.

  91. ORIGINAL PUNDIT Fumya bu MMD muno ai? Even Stevie Wonder can see that Lefi Patricia aleiba, and then u sit there siding with him??

  93. 101 Don,
The word you are looking for is ‘grammer’ NOT ‘grama’.

As for me – Mai sperringz is tellibo, my typing skills are evn worse. Inglish i dont know itself. But that does not mean I can not reason. You seem to be claim to be cleverer than me, so just decode my errors, analys the points and get back. Attacking my lingo wont help nothing. Take charge

  94. Keyser Soze (104),
Original Pundit ni Original Chipuba, probably writing from Mulongoti’s office, at the instruction of Katele, Mulyata, Musosha, Mabenga and Findlay himself.
Pundit, the best thing you can do is to keep your corruption defences in your chest, if you have one.
This is not a fora you can manipulate. The majority of PCs contributing here are along the line of rail. If Sept 2006 rings a bell you know WE KNOW better than your empty head!

  95. Ba Original Pundit #94 On the contrary, the CHOICE OF LPM was born out of a FTJ’s failure to think outside the “box” (leaving plot 1 & instruments of power). We are now saddled with LPM who for the past7 yrs (plus remaining 3 years) has been trying to secure himself (protect his presidency) at the expense of delivering to the needs of the electorate. It was a bad choice not just for silly FTJ but mostly for Zambia. 7 yrs + billions ZMK gone never to be recovered. Consider the opportunity cost!

  96. Ba Don 101,
Are you sure english language is a measure of intelligence or wisdom?
I think King D was just abbreviating some words and shortening lines, otherwise he has put across points well.
Not everyone has an empty desk (I mean no work and all the time) to write comprehensive essays.

  97. 112#
You can not loose what you have never had. But that is beside the point. Let us refrain from attacking personalities etc lets keep it to facts etc

    #111 and 101
Thanks 111 thats tru, as for Don if there is anything you do not understand I will gladly expand on. If anyone has time, run thru the top 100 post here, you will fint very few without typing erros, spelling mistakes, grammatical errors or abbreviations. Do Don, just do what your name spells backwards (Nod)

  98. Pundit (86 & 88)

Katumbi threatened that he will spill the beans. Not long after issuing these threats we hear that they have reached a compromise that is to the satisfaction of both parties. This says a lot of things. LPM has alot to fear my man. He has alot of skeletons in his overcrowded closet. His time will come when his blunders will catch up with him. Even this Katebe issue will come up. Caders like you may also be caught up in the thick of things.

  99. 113# Ha who do you want to separate personality and deeds. Deeds and conducts are performed by personalities and verse visa. You can not separate them. Body and soul are one unless you die. Me here Iam lost the cruasade I have dancing have come to any end its time to turn to reconcillation in the name of peace. This has gone too far

  100. #115 Easy
I mean attacking each other here personally and name calling. E.g lets say you posted

King David, you idi*t, you are dull, ect.

Let us keep the forum clean on calling each other unprintables but debade real issues.

  101. What a Country, you let Katumbi hand over US$2 million worth of property and goods and you give him back a truck full of precious stones worth at least US$20 million and you call that “resolve all standing matters amicably” (Mlongoti). Anyway, more copper ore from Katanga, DRC. Congratulation Mr. ‘Money’ Katumbi for clearly showing the double standards apllied in Zambia by the current MMD gov’t.

If anyone wants Mr. Katumbi’s direct number just e-mail me at Katumbi’[email protected]

  102. Bonse mulesabailafye. I told you NOT to VOTE for Chuchu becoz of his chipumputu, nomba mwamona. Na Chitoba wine taiba pa DEC. Do not cry for spilt milk, malibu yakuilombela for voting chuchu for the second term.

  103. What we have done is very immoral. My worry is why then are we fighting corruption if others can go scot free? Iam trying to remember what happened to Paul Wolf at World Bank, wasnt he sacked because of misdeeds? Why is ACC still pursuing Chitoba and Chiluba?I think Zambia is a sick country,a crime is a crime, why were the Natwest three extradited to US to answer charges in the Enron saga? Katumbi why should we erase history just like that? Then Britain and US must stay out of Afghanstan,QC smith

  104. It all about MMD. They are corrupt and they want the blood of Chiluba to cover for their sins. When the time comes, we shall hold them accountable.

  105. Acc,task force and other corruption fighting organisation should be abolished because their fight is in vain.we have just witnessed the biggest form of corruption in the nation perpetuated by government.

  106. Other details of the discontinuation of cases against Katumbi are that Paul Steele should also not be “pursued”, that the state will return or make compensation for all assets seized by Task Force (the Toothless Farce!), and the state will make good the money owed for Maize and mealie meal subsidy.Talk about Govt negotiating with people they called plunderers! What sovereignty? Time and time again many of us and others like Ba Jose have argued that continuing with the case against FTJ is just a

  107. #115 EASY
This is the reason I`ve been against LPM because of his behind the scenes dirty dealings.
Who is LPM now going to blame? Is the patriotic Zambians for demanding justice or the task force which he illegally formed?
Anyway, what do we expect from an individual who assumed office out of CORRUPTION.
New generation of politics is the answer to Zambia`s problems.

  108. 125 chapi I doubt you are already contaminated. The waste is to come especially with the prosperties of climate change the cake will become smaller. Many spices will die out including mankind because of few selfish individuals.

  109. I think Katumbi has been very smart on this one. If you read the news about First Quantum minerals, you will notice that Katumbi as the highest official of Katanga Province halted (again) shippments of copper ore from the mines in DRC into Zambia. When news broke out that the Katanga official had halted copper ore shippments, shares in Frist Quantum fell from the TSE. To resolve the matter FQ and it’s many shareholders put pressure on levy’s govt to do something, ba levy dropped all charges.

  110. Go to google and type “First Quantum shippments halted from DRC” or “First Quantum says DRC shippments to Zambia halted”. The news came out about 5 hours ago. It seems our gov’t is there is serve the rich and greedy while leaving their own people poor. This is a problem with having a capitalist President. It’s the gov’t is there to please corporations and almost does nothing for their own people. Corruption in a capitalist system can not be avoided. All corruption cases must be dropped.

  111. # 128,
Work hard and form your own Government then drop all the cases you strongly feel should be. We will do what is in our best interest. You didn’t vote for us and we have nothing to share with you at any level. Go to Chiluba and Sata for your gains or keep your aimless hallucinations here.

  112. #126 EASY
I hear you and feel your pain but sitting back and simply watching as our country runs down the drain won`t help.
Remember what J.F Kennedy once said that it`s not what your country can do for you but what you can do for it.Change is instituted by individuals that feel strongly about issues that govern their principles.
Our country desperately needs selfless visionaries whose primary purpose is service to the nation.
New generation of politics is the answer to Zambia`s problems.

  113. let us all as zambians leave everything in the hands of the creator. nowonder the bible conderms politics. therefore let us all as zambians unite in focusing on our eternal future and not the temperal one.

  114. i wonder if really the [pf] president mr micheal chilufya sata will fire all its mps for endulging themselves in the ncc sittings because the number isjust too great, imagine 23 shure………

  115. Big Thing(107)i read with interest your comments in #107.I’m sure you must feel better after making those disparaging remarks. At least anyone who visits these pages will be clear as to what you think of me and my contributions. It should therefore shock no-one when your venom is directed at them also.

  116. Ba Rigo(132),Cobra cannot “fire” his party MP’s as they were elected by the people and are not personal appointees. He can however start the process of expelling them from PF and subject his party to by-elections with the hope of retaining the seats!!Chances are he would lose some of the seats as is sometimes the case further diluting PF representation in Parliament.Expulsion is not recommended as the ability to raise funds for 23 by elections in the next 90 days is a scary thought even for MMD!!

  117. #134
Chances PF will retain the seats are even much higher than any other party getting them. Case in point is Nchanga.
In 2006 the ratio of PF:MMd PF was 3.2 to 1
In 2007 bye-election despite all goverment and party machinery including the vice president camping in Nchanga for two whole weeks the ratio was 3.8 to 1
This goes to shows PF growing stonger and stronger with the voters and MMD is getting weaker and weaker.

  118. what else can we say we are a useless nation to allow mad muwelewele to continue his nonsence, where on earth can he say that katumbi is blameless cos its just as good as to discontinue the case with ftj, the task force has failed lamentably to prosecute the so called plunderus.Mad muwelewele himself is a product of the plundered money how then do you arrest plunderus? arrests must start with chuchu and his wife, then shikapwasha for embelzoring ZAF monies

  119. I beloved up to you’ll receive performed right here. The caricature is attractive, your authored material stylish. however, you command get bought an nervousness over that you would like be handing over the following. unwell for sure come further beforehand again since exactly the same just about a lot continuously inside of case you shield this hike.
