Justification by Amos Chanda for a bloated entourage for First Lady makes no sense- Msoni

Share

All Peoples Congress Leader Nason Msoni says the justification by State House spokesperson Amos Chanda that Inspector’s had to be included on the overly bloated entourage to go and inspect the fire engines donated to First Lady Esther Lungu makes no sense and is totally misplaced Judgment.

Mr. Msoni said the role of inspectors was obviously overtaken by the aspect of going to receive the fire tenders by the delegation.

He said in an ideal situation inspectors and all other relevant technical staff should have gone ahead of the delegation to either approve or disapprove the donation.

“In this case you can’t recieve and reject at the same time of receiving the donation. Just how does that work? The truth is they already had made up their minds to go and receive the equipment whether it is suitable or unsuitable”, he said.

Mr. Msoni said inspectors are merely going to launder and cover the huge extravagance and abuse of public money adding that a country abusing state resources like this cannot make any meaningful economic achievement.

He said Zambians want to see prudent management of their resources and put into areas which benefit the broadest section of communities.

Mr. Msoni said Fire tenders are not amongst Zambians top priority at the moment and that it is such unplanned expenditure that is driving the country into constant budget overruns.

He said his party is deeply saddened by this blatant abuse of state resources

    • What doesn’t make sense is that Mrs Lungu is going to receive a donation which she will later donate to government. If her foundation has no use for the fire trucks (second hand), she would have said no to the donation.

    • Or she could have asked relevant people to fetch the tenders. But apparently the fire engines need to be examined by six journalists, seven staff officers (whatever that is) a cook a bedroom attendant and a waiter

    • – A cookie, waiter, bedroom attendant, 4 secretaries, 7 police officers, 7 journalists for 15 days. Even the pipo donating will shake their heads when they see the huuuuge entourage.
      – The trip makes zambian embassy redundant.
      – The trucks are LHD, which is a risk especially that fire trucks are wide.
      – cost of allowances & air tickets can buy 5 used trucks. Besides first lady’s office is an illegal office.

  1. It is delusion of grandeur to think that the government in its current state can adhere to fiscal discipline. There is too much revenue leakages which can only be sealed by disciplined leadership. Leadership should be anchored on prudent management of resources. If there is no frugality in the way resources are being used, the country risks being thrown in a bin of debilitating poverty. Corruption drains resources intended for vulnerable but viable citizenry. Health and school facilities are in dilapidated condition. We need leaders who will prioritize expenditure in line with the resources that are available. We can’t be wasteful as a nation in the presence of poverty. Just like austerity measures have been imposed on civil servants, so should be our mode of expenditure.

  2. But truthfully it’s the docility if Zambians who choose to look the other way. Then they go to dance at the airport, no food at home, no school fees for children, one meal a day and they raise their fist in approval. This behavior is so screwed it’s beyond comprehension.

  3. “Einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul”.meaning- Do not look in the mouth of a donated horse. When you go back home that is when you can look it in its mouth. Teeth or no teeth that’s your baby. Open the engines of those buses when you get back home. Wishing you a long life!

    • Its true the opposition in Zambia is weak. You should see how South Africa:s opposition which is proportionately much smaller than Zambia’s causes sleepless nights for the Giant ANC. Who made the president pay for corrupt tenders at Nkandla? Tiny EFF.

  4. And since the donation has already been accepted why not just wait for the equipment to come instead of showing our backwardness of sending a colony of Zambians to ululate the receipt of Only four fire tenders as if its an invitation to go to the moon, imagine how the news on live television in that country will go like ” We have received a high powered delegation of twenty five (25), I repeat TWENTY FIVE (25) AFRICANS HEADED BY THE FIRST LADY TO RECEIVE four FIRE TENDERS. THE FIRST LADY IS HIGHLY ELATED TO HAVE THIS RARE HONOR OF RECEIVING THE TENDERS FROM WHITE DONORS, THE DELEGATION INCLUDES BED ATTENDANTS”. MEANWHILE THE STATE HOUSE SPOKES PERSON IN THAT AFRICAN COUNTRY HAS JUSTIFIED THE DELEGATION SAYING THIS IS NOT A GOVERNMENT DONATION BUT A DONATION TO THE FIRST LADY TO QUENCH…

  5. THE FIRES WHICH ARE NORMALLY ATTRIBUTED TO THE OPPOSITION POLITICAL PARTIES. THIS WILL BE HEADLINE NEWS AND FOR THE WRONG REASONS TOO BECAUSE WE SHALL BE A LAUGHING STOCK FOR YEARS TO COME.
