Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Richard Musukwa has assured Zambians, the international community and investors that Zambia is still a favorable destination for investment in the mining sector.

Mr Musukwa has stressed that the mining sector will remain private sector driven.

He says Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) is an isolated case which has been triggered by failure to comply with the law and issues surrounding KCM should not be used to dent the good image of Zambia.

He adds that the case should instead be used as a signal to other mining companies not complying with the law to put their houses in order.

The Minister says government will not allow investors to abuse Zambians and violate laws that protect investments.

Mr Musukwa says government will continue to use dialogue as a means of reaching amicable solutions and work with investors who mean well for the country.

He says investors will have a fair share from their investment as long as they do not break the law.

Mr Musukwa said this in Lusaka during a meeting held with Mopani Chief Executive Officer Chris Vermeulen.

The Minister urged Mopani to continue working with government in resolving issues surrounding the shaft and offer solutions to safe guard equipment of locals and contractors.

And Mr. Vermeulen assured the Minister that Mopani will continue working with Government and key stakeholders to make sure there are no job cuts.

Mr Vermeulen said Mopani is currently working on infrastructure which will improve production and local contractors will be given a platform to grow.

He cited the new concentrator project in Kitwe which is at 61 percent and the Henderson shaft in Mufulira which is at 98 percent complete respectively.

  1. Musukwa please remove PF cadres from matters affecting the mining industry in Zambia and engage qualified and reputable Zambians.Follow the law and do not be emotional.Otherwise you will cause more problems for this country.Where have you been all this time since problems started at KCM ? It had to take the people of Chingola and C/bombwe and the opposition parties to demonstrate for your government to wake up.We just hope it is not too late. Musukwa, in better managed countries you should long have lost your job.

    • Someone please tell me were the Lusaka Minister is. After being smeared by Kambwili’s shiit politics about murder he has just disapeared. Looks like he has shelved his presidential ambitions now. We used to read about him meeting people, catching police etc. Now he is zeeee! Why? Where are you? Kambwili needs more slaps

    • But bwana minister of mines you don’t learn. Again you have repeated and awarded MMRP Indians huge chucks of land for large scale managanese mining in Mansa, Luapula province. These are the same KCM Argawal dynasty who will never ever bother to develop that area. All they will be doing is externalize Forex out of the country. When are you going to learn, kanshi? I am very disappointed with you Hon Musukwa. At leat we should have this land for our children to come in the next generation. Very sad..!

  2. His boss is too much of a coward to host a press conference and assure the nation and the international community ….yet he is sending this former school teacher as if they can listen to him. Surely what type of President likes to surround himself with dullards.

  3. My foreign friends believe this guy at your own peril. Even my swiss wifes’ friends have pulled most of their investment and sold up. The only reason my swiss wife elisa has got investment left in zambia is because I adamantly told her I will always keep some assets in zambia. I have properties and other assets there and spend my time between London, Switzerland and Zambia. Don’t be lied to by this minister. A lot of Europeans don’t invest in corrupt regimes.

    • Your coonery is now getting boring…we know in your village it’s a huge achievement to marry a musungu.

    • Jay Jay, it seems you have mental issues. I do not comment on your posts because I find them nauseating to say the least. clearly we do not see eye to eye and come from very different walks of life. so why dont you do youself and I a favour and ignore me? I do not spend my precious free time blogging here for your convenience so please mind your business. if you are not proud of your ugly bearded partner then please leave us who are alone!

    • There you go ignorantly thinking I envy you or your miscegenation..really laughable…like I have stated you are too unenlightened for me to be exchanging posts on such subjects. You are there marketing your sill party and tossing in all kinds of nonsense in your posts… I wonder what the dull foools at your party H/Q make of it.
      Anyway goodnite silly boyi!!!

  4. The truth of the matter is ….the lungu regime is seen somewhat as Greg Mills put it in another heading on LT ….like it or not , that is the perception.

It is all up to mr lungu to unite the country and try to pull through with a united country.
    There is no other way.

If zambia were a European country facing this economic crises , all political parties would have pulled together to navigate the country forward ……but alas we are Africans.

Fighting ourselves for vaultures to pick the carcasse of Zambia dry.
