Delays in releasing results of Zimbabwe’s harmonized elections, held on Saturday the
29th of March, are causing speculation and tension, analysts fear.
The announcement on Sunday night that the results would be declared from 06:00 on Monday, came amidst mounting fears that the delay signaled further efforts to rig the polls.
Previous ballots have seen results issued within hours of voting.
In an announcement on state television, ZEC Chairman George Chiweshe said there was nothing
untoward about unveiling the results on Monday.
He defended the delay, noting that, “In other countries, it takes longer than that, at times
up to one week.”
The excuses are, however, being dismissed by opposition members and activists who say some rigging is going on somewhere and they delay the announcement as to perfect it, Lovemore Madhuku, chairman of the National Constitutional Assembly said.

I believe this has something to do with Mugabe’s determintion to stay in power. Elections took place on Saturday and no Presidential elections results disceminated by Tuesday 1:00 pm?
One can only suspect rigging. We all know that Mugabe doesn’t want to leave.
Mugabe caused opposition leaders to beaten severely beaten to point of being hospitalized (ICU). There is no way he would want to be ruled by one of them. He is scared for his life. He will do all he can to win the election.
The “Wamuyaya syndrome” has taken the man far beyond the expected boundaries. Hope he gets bad luck!
I wish mugabe to lose, he has pushed most of zimbabweans to the streets esp of zambia livingstone, though them the zimbabweans can not c it,let them suffer alone. The wamuyayaya syndrome is bad, with i feel we are going to experience when ba sata is voted into power.
Politics of greed and intimidation are everywhere? free and fair…? i pray that one day we shall all be judged by our actions towards another man. Lord have mercy and bless all our zimbabwean brothers and sisters. let the Lord’s might prevail and be rest assured…God hears the cries of the oppressed. You the people fo zimbabwe are the only ones that can get yourselves out of this torment. continue voting and see where you end up…the same situation. change your step of action.
typical of opposition. they claim victories for wars they have never fought! even before the full results are announced, they are claiming simple victories as if to incite the people. remember Sata, Odinga now Big head Tsvangirai. Just wait for the results. As Mwaanga said in 2006 when the chain smoker was celebrating victory and harrasing Kanganja on who to invite at indepedence stadium… let us hope they will accept the final results!
To think that SADC (SAD DIC) has already declared the Zimbabwean elections Free and Fair is very disheartening, to say the least. How did this group even get to monitoring elections. We have seen over the years how the group only seem to be supporting the interests of the ruling partie in all the member countries. I support Mugabe’s stance on land redistribution, but not to the extent of holding the country at ransom and defeating the democratic aspirations of Zimbabwean people. This is what the SAD DIC is doing. The only person who dared to speak against Mugabe, Mundia Sikatana, was unceremoniously given the boot, how sad.
#6 MALABISHI YAKO.
Zimbo people are very docile us Zambians rioted and voted KK out. When Titus wanted a third term, Zambians honked no. But Zimbo people are passive.
#8. just make your point. truth hurts empty head.
mugabe, is not ashamed of what he has made his people go thru.He has no heart and he needs to be delt with after his loss,i only wish i can be present when he is being put to task. The old fool must GO!
Mugabe should be thanked for doing the right thing and returning the land back to the people of Zimbabwe. However, at 84 yrs of age, he has not got much to offer and he should relinquish power in accordance with the will of the people. If he lost, let him go honourably. His people are suffering the effects of his failed economic plan. His policies and the EU/US sanctions have turned Zim into a land of hungry millionaires. It’s a shame
Mr. Mugabe, 84, has led Zimbabwe since 1980. Crafty and ruthless, he is not a man likely to easily give up his hold on power, analysts, diplomats and Zimbabweans have long contended.
The fact that it now three days without the results being released suggests, rigging is under way. The excitement of the opposition to claim victory already may instil in the people the idea of doing the Kenya way. For sure Uncle Bob wont go quietly. He wants to prove USA and Britain wrong not to meddle in Zim affairs. Thats why he dubs the election as a choice between self-rule and the West whose puupets he alleges are the oposition. Gadaffi has already blessed him. He is 84. His life is now on the balance in heaven. There should be much patient and restraint on the opposition side. Let us learn from Kenya.
bulanda bushala!iyee
I fear for Zambia. Once Mugabe is gone and it looks more and more likelt that he will be forced to step down, Zambia will revert to being the cindrella of Southern Africa. The hotels in Livingstone will empty and those on the other side will start to fill up. Just compare the infrastructure in Livingston vis a vis in Vitoria Falls Town and you will understand what I am talking about! GO ZIM GO!
I agree with you # 16, the white farmers will go back cos I know for sure the new govt will ask them to do so. I fear for Zambia’s supposed growing economy.
#16 and 17. Thats not good solidarity with neighbours. Zambia and its neighbours have benefited greatly from the woes in Zimbabwe, in terms of farmers, tourism, and the cheap mahules, ets! thats why SADC is silent and cant attack Mugabe in the pretext that we dont meddle in other countries’ affairs. Fact is each one is befitting.
Zimbabwe’s economic turnaround cannot happen overnight. They will need to reverse their black empowerment laws and building confidence in their currency with their run away inflation will take years. The farmers that came to Zambia are here to stay as they borrowed money from banks in order to establish their businesses and they will need to pay it back. Hence, let the sinking titanic be given a chance to float again. We need the SADC region to stablise and to record growth socially, economically and politically.
Mugabe must win. and win he will. let MDC accept final results. typical of opposition. they claim victories for wars they have never fought! even before the full results are announced, they are claiming simple victories as if to incite the people. remember Sata, Odinga now Big head Tsvangirai. Just wait for the results. As Mwaanga said in 2006 when the chain smoker was celebrating victory and harrasing Kanganja on who to invite at indepedence stadium… let us hope they will accept the final results!
Kanshi uyu bacila prof. no.6 nani? I hope he understands what he is talking about. There is a lot to be looked at before we utter any comment on the matter. We hope that Zim remains peaceful after the elections. Let justice take its course.
OK. I understand what some of you people said about Zambia over Zim’s elections. But the fact will always remain the same, Zambians will still enjoy peace even after Zim’s election results and its economic growth will still continue. The only thing we need to do as for now and thereafter is putting Zimbabwe into the peaceful hands of our lord JESUS CHRIST.Not discussing what will happen to Zambia or any other nation. This is Africa and it is only africans who can bring peace on our Continent
It is time to go for President Mugabe. However, being the founder of the Zimbabwe nation, he deserves a diginified exit. I hope President Tsvangarai grants him the dignified exit.
#22 You just wait and see. You certainly are in the dark about the socio-economic and political dynamics of the region. If you were attentive enough you would have known by now from which neighbouring countries the crisis in Zimbabwe is being reported from. We’ve been told that tourism in ZIM has collapsed and booming in Zambia. But have you ever wondered why major TV news channels never bother about Lusaka when showing travel weather in Africa?
Mugabe has been a dismal failur. Zim has only two main tribes shona and ndebele yet he has failed to unite them after more than 20 yrs. To this day those pipo cannot sit in the same room.
In zambia we have 76 tribes yet KK did wonders on anttribalisim.
The days of the revolutionary are gone. You upset the west at you cost. You can not upset the pipo who controll the global economy and expect to survive. You play it clever.
It is fair to look at what is happening in Zimbabwe and compare it with our last elections. That our opposition (like in Zimbabwe & Kenya) announced victories before official results was premature and wrong. Such are what lead to catastrophes worldwide. Delays in announcement while could be genuine without information flowing regularly (like what happened to ours) only lead to more suspicion. Traditionally, Zambia has always announced elections as and when available on radio. Last election’s stoppage (with instruction from above) in the middle of results did not augur well with our tradition and democracy and that too raised a lot of questions. We hope not to see that in Zambian
ctd from 26; elections again.
#25 Right on. We need rational-calculative people as leaders not irrational and emotional nut cases. Botswana has been lucky because their respective leaders have been ahead of the curve in calculating and defining their national interest. You cannot say the same about the jokers we have had in Zambia.
Uncle BOB has out lived his usefull life let him go and rest .However he did well on the land issue thats the bigest most zims brothers will remember him for.Nevertheless zims have now lent a lesson that they should be gud to neighbours becoz the wayn they used to treat zambians when things wher bad it was not gud , how ever its the opposite
ALL THE BEST UNCLE BOB
Latest: Robert Gabriel Mugabe is preparing to exit Zim and camp with Mwanawasa in case his final rigging attempts go sour.
Hahahhahaa
Ala chalikosa umutima chitata ichi! 84 yrs but tachile fwa and he cant let go of that seat. Ukutumpa!
While alot has been said about SADC inability to resolve Zim issues, AU is part of the equation to all African problems. One would expect the AU to be proactive in managing African problems be it social, economical & political. I can not expect AU to be running torward Zim with peer review templates when it has know Zim problem for a decade. AU is there to manage Comrades like Bob regarless of what ever he is smoking. This may seem a Zim issue but this an African problem. We need pragmatic, Innovative and brave African leaders to move Africa to a developed continent.
Colleagues, I am in Zimbabwe currently. The world may be frustrated at the vacuum in the news, but Zimbabweans are simmering – the lid on the pressure cooker about to blow. There is an eerie quiet in the streets, the eye before the storm.
BYE BYE MUGABE. YOU MUST HAVE SEEN IT COMING WITH ALL THE MISERIES THAT YOU INFLICTED ON YOUR NATIONALS! ALL THE BEST AS YOU FACE THE LAWS THAT YOU CREATED TO OPPRESS YOUR HUMBLE BROTHERS AND SISTERS!

Arrogance from ZANU-PF, they are meeting to discuss elections when the ZEC has not yet made the final and most important announcement – Pres results. So, they will decide whether to accept or rig the elections.I like what MDC did, by announcing they had won as they have added up results from Poll stations, they put the govt on the spot aganist any rigging.Something pipo like SATA should learn, change the law so that results are public info at poll stations for independent results.
mugabe thinks he owns Zimbabwean people, he is right now stage playing claims that his pro zanu pf Zim Election Comm staff have miscalculated his votes, and he is arresting them. This is common knowledge that he wants to then under the same stupid excuse, order them to declare him the winner and even go on to reduce MDC assembly seats. I want to tell you that this time he is not getting it. If Mbeki is the one advising him to keep rigging, this time it not a manageable advice!!!!!!!
