President Rupiah Banda has directed the Ministry of Education to monitor private schools to ensure they provide quality education.
President Banda said parents pay huge sums of money for their children’s school fees and that the quality of education provided should be of high standard.
He was speaking when he officially opened Horizon Primary and High school in Lusaka on Monday.
Mr. Banda has also urged parents to take keen interest in the learning process of their children.
He explains that parents should know their children’s strengths and weaknesses.
President Banda says the move helps in the formation of character of their children.
And President Banda says Government will continue investing heavily in the country’s education sector.
He says this is because education is a pre-requisite to addressing economic challenges.
Earlier, Turkish Ambassador Ahmet Arba said the opening of the school will contribute to the needs of Zambians.
And Horizon Educational Trust PTA Chairman Leslie Mbula has asked the Turkish Governmet to send more Science, Mathematics and ICT teachers to Zambia.
Mr. Mbula says this is because Science, Mathematic and ICT are key to the development of Zambia.
And Turkish University Chancellor Serif Ali Tkalan says his country decided to open a school in Zambia because of the country’s peaceful environment.
Meanwhile, Horizon Educational Trust has awarded First Lady Thandiwe Banda with an honorary certificate.
President Banda received the certificate on behalf of the first Lady.
ZNBC
The first lady couldnt receive her honorary certificate? Where is she?
wait a minute, do we really need teachers from Turkey? What an insult to our teachers who are unemployed.
Shame on Banda, shame on MMD
I absolutely agree with the statement of monitoring the private schools. Some school owners have made this as money spinning venture which I have not problem with but the issue of just letting the children do whatever they like and school owners can do whatever they liie including sending a kid on a forced transfer when in exam class
WE ARE ALSO NOT SEEING QUALITY POLITICS IN ZAMBIA …CAN WE IMPROVE ON THIS ONE..JUST INSULTS & ATTACKING EACH OTHER EVERYTIME.
What is the significance of the honorary certificate? Our school only gives certificates to those who have diligently studied. The Turkish University Chancellor is lying for the reason why they have come Zambia. They are just here in our country to try and help spread Islam thru education. We will be watching them. LT this University chancellor is from which Turkish university? We welcome the school but we need more Zambian teachers.
Lets open our eyes. Islamists are looking for places (Madras) where they can train their extremists from without CIA watching them. Why should we allow Turkey to open a School in Zambia, for what? To train Zambians in Islam? Rupiah’s affinity to Islamic states is really worrying to me.
Which curriculum will this school follow, Turkish or Zambians? Some foooool is even calling on Turkey to send Scientists (Science Teachers) to come and and teach. In which science field is Turkey good at to make ourselves inferior to Turkey?
MMD must be removed, so we can improve our education in public schools. This is what they wanted to bring in foreigners to run our schools when they wanted to present the bill (they withdrew) to privatise public schools. NONSENSE…
Why promote private schools instead of government schools Mr President? You are becoming a laughing stock, get it right please. Thanks
Ka Mashota nako! Awe mwe!!
kamwana ka RB kayoupa ba mwenye. kabisama kumbuyo kwaba tate bake… hahaha…
Just send a Director or PS to attend the ceremony. Wastin money on fuel . Security. Etc
So Dora is busy insulting Priest and has forgotten what her duties are. She has to be told what to do. What the heck is she doing in that office? Insulting Catholics and the next and most pragmatic hardworking President Sata?
@#6 Grow a brain mune, what you said is total rubbish it is a pity you have access to this forum. This is education we are talking about, is Zambia not a democratic state, are we now claiming to be anti Muslim? I don’t have the energy to concern myself with you.
@Mushota, most nations I know of have better standards in the private system because they can afford a hands on approach to teaching. The cry for better public schools is indeed laudible but you have to admit that some private schools in Zambia simply steal money and turn out more dunderheads like….
#11 As a Christian nation Zed needs to be very careful and protect the curriculum being taught to their future generation. Some of these Islamic countries are known to tamper with social issues. You will be suprised what some countries teach in school. You do not want to wake up and find Zambian culture, christianity and way of life disappear. Seriously speaking one would rather have the school curriculums from places like India, Singapore and Japan who concentrate on producing doctors, engineers etc and not idealogy.
Iam impressed Mr Banda noticed Chibero Primary School is not painted the the way he wants it to look now after the incogonito visit to the Turkish school. There is a billboard at the new twin palm school indicating government money at work. I few Mr Banda should have painted Chibero before instructing the putting up of that billboard.
Our education system needs a face lift our teachers conditions need improving rural schools are badly affected most of them in a poor state and Teachers housing in rural areas should be seriously looked into if we are to uplift our education standards otherwise its a joke and a mockery to the people of Zambia. So MOE please go and monitor GRZ schools and ensure they providing good education, the private sector education cant be compared to most of these GRZ schools of today.SAD
#12 Â You may have a point, but the idea of alwayz hiding in the so called ” Christian Nation” doez not help matterz.
You mean the ministry was waiting for Banda to tell them to start monitoring private schools? We must have a malfunctioning govt.
A head of state opening a private school! What are ministers there for if every foundation block, every project it must be RB? Office of the president has been belittled! Such projects are supposed to be officiated by a permanent secretary Anyway we know why it is elections year
RB ale tusebanya sana! Is it just people from east or is this a one off case in terms of RB? He was laughing at the GRZ school which is opposite this school – what kind of a President is this? If David Cameron did this in the UK, he know he will have to resign within 48 hours. RB is even inviting foreigners to come and teach science and IT in a zambian school. kwena twasebanya. Ka Thandi, you are young (and pretty – ahh average), can you pump some sence in this fool -RB please!
