PF government urged to step up the fight against corruption and quit paying lip service

By Pezzy Kudakwashe

Zambia’s civil society has challenged the Patriotic Front government to step up the fight against corruption and quit paying lip service.

Zambia Rainbow Coalition(ZRC) President, Cleophas Phiri, said the fight against corruption must rise above campaign slogans and be backed by facts and action.

Mr Phiri said the PF government was spending colossal sums of money on commissions of inquiry aimed at fighting corruption yet the outcome of the findings were not benefiting the Zambians.

He said ZRC was very concerned at how president Sata and government ministers were arbitrary breaking the law which was core to Zambia’s stability and governance. He said it was imperative that all citizens abide by the same rules.

Mr Phiri also called on government to sit down with all stack holders to map out a strategy on how to create employment for the Zambians instead of going at it alone.

“No man has monopoly to employment creation. Government, the public enterprises and informal sector can work together to do that. When you promise during campaign pledges, you should deliver. Government must use every means, including subsidies to create the much needed employment in Zambia”, Mr Phiri said.

He was speaking on Zambia Blog Talk Radio over the weekend.

  1. can any sane person sit with an Hungry Hyena (HH) to strategize on employment creation in the country?

  2. But it is only MMD that was corrupt so now that PF is in power no problem….. right?

  3. its so unfortunate to see the numbers of unemployed youths in our country escalating and yet our politicians are so busy politicking.the situation is so bad that govt should not think that this can be sorted out by them alone.let them consult stakeholders not what they have done with the minimum wage issue.consult PF, consult!iam a human resource practitioner and I receive calls 24/7 from unemployed Zambians.its so stressful sometimes because we cant employ everyone at the same time.so disheartening.we all need to be involved in strategizing on employment creation.its a huge task.if we dont do it now our youths will resort to becoming thieves, or worse still robbers; our female folk into prostitution.let us be action oriented, not just busy reading boring speeches.

  4. no ore time for lip service..let them get to work and fire all th kolwestans related to ukwa..

  5. Good observation ZRC,please tell those other nothing going on (ngo) that the President has run out of jobs to dish out. They better stick to what they are employed to do ,checks and balances.

  6. That’s it I am starting my own NGO and will issue statements via Lusaka Times and Zambian Watchdog. Who needs a mandate to pontificate?
