Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba has advised the people of Western Province to reject and expose a clandestine grouping calling itself Barotse Liberation Army (BLA).

Mr Mwamba said individuals behind the BLA movement should be denounced because they could disturb peace prevailing in the province and create an impression that Patriotic Front (PF) Government has failed people in the area.

He said the BLA secessionists who were reported to be recruiting ex-defence service personnel were a group of selfish and disgruntled individuals whose objectives was to “plunge the region into
chaos.

“I want to appeal to you that don’t listen to selfish individuals who are attempting to divide Western Province and frustrate development efforts by the PF Government.

“This group wants to plunge this country into chaos so that they portray that PF doesn’t want the people of Western province which is a total lie because PF Government cares for all Zambians,” Mr Mwamba said

Mr Mwamba who was accompanied by Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu and service chiefs was speaking in Sesheke yesterday when he addressed scores of residents who welcomed the delegation at the airstrip.

The two ministers accompanied by service chiefs were on tour of selected parts of Western province on a fact finding mission regarding the formation of the reported BLA.

On Friday, last week during a graduation of defence personnel at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, President Michael Sata said the BLA had recruited some people among them ex-defence service personnel and poachers to attempt to cause confusion in the country.

The Head of State ordered the defence service chiefs to dispatch troops to Western Province to verify the situation.

Mr Mwamba said the Government was concerned about the welfare of all Zambians and would ensure equal developmental projects were effectively delivered to satisfy people’s needs

He said the people of Western province and Zambians at large should not be influenced and swayed into believing that PF Government would not deliver development to all parts of the country.

“I want to assure you that we are delivering various development to all parts of the country and don’t be cheated by anybody that we shall not deliver the development you want,” he said

The Minister implored people to embrace the spirit of ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ and continue to support and work closely with the Government.

He cited President Sata’s recent decision to create five new districts and a university in Western province as some of the massive developmental projects the locals would continue to receive.

  1. Haha, bwana GBM development won’t pacify the need for secession.Very developed regions wanting to split from countries are all over the globe-regions like Quebec,Scotland,Tibet,Catalonia,Wallonia and Mindanao. In fact many more countries have to deal with a separatist prolem like zambia’s so don’t act like you have the magic formula to solve it.

    • Just because there is trouble elsewhere then you should fan trouble in your region as well is twisted logic! To think of moving from peace to trouble, from frying pan to fire, unnecessarilly so is utter unreasonable. Just play down your perceived glory. Treasure peace, peace is a virtual. Think of Syria, Congo, etc history is there enough fir a scare monger but real. Do not fan trouble unnecessarily. If you writing from diaspora think twice. You may not have even donr anything for western province in your short life, but why do you want to bring chaos there. let the people in western province live in peace, they need it as they and GRZ try to see development improvements there. You are irrelevant in diaspora if you can only inflame trouble where you don’t live.

  2. Which selfish individual is GBM referring to? There could only be 2 or 3 who torment him:
    – Kabimba
    – Fred Mmembe & not least or last
    – The Maikoni brothers.

  3. Sad that people want our country to experience what other countries are experiencing. Even if we dont agree with the government, lets denounce any form of violence that will put innocent people in trouble. Zambia is no longer a tribal land because of intermarriages. I am half Lozi and half bemba. I see no reason i should fight one of my parents tribes. That is doesn’t make sense.

    • thats the spirit. these losers will do anything to destabilise this govt. cos they are getting more bitter by the day.

  4. Tumbuka Pride #1, Mindanao is not very developed – it is just like Western Province and in fact their behavior is closest because they closed off the country from accessing them while pushing for 8th Century religious practices… Now they have been given the rope they need to hang themselves and are scampering around asking for extended help from the same people they did not want. This is bound to happen to WP. Catalonia, on the other hand is way ahead of the pack and feels they are “feeding the slackers”… therein lies the tale. The dynamics are varied from religious to economic to plain old bigotry…

    • Yes,amongst the pack Mindanao is the laggard but it still ahead of WP in development,in average income and better infrastructure. Its more culturally diverse than the rest of Philippines and has a christian majority so your assertion of 8thc religious practices is hollow.

    • You must have a crystal for you to be so certain about what will happen to Barotseland. Looks like its just your prejudice screaming out loudly to be heard. The truth of the matter is no one knows. In 1964 Zambia was predicted to evolve into one of Africa’s richest countries. At the same time Botswana was predicted to struggle. There were even suggestions to make it part of South Africa. In both cases we know how things turned out. So my dear lets campaign to keep Zambia together but we should not do so by making uninformed predictions coloured by own prejudices .

  5. That is a language to us Bwana Minister. Reconciliation and conciliatory language is very paramount in any confrontation. I am sure there are indeed very few disgruntled people in Western Province who needs to be caged is necessary.

  6. Mr. GBM, Please don’t waste time to reconcile with those backwards people of WP. The Bembas and Ngonis ARE READY to go to WP and teach, the so called ‘Barotse Liberation Army (BLA)’ manners. Why do you even waste time surely? Use your power man!! You are behaving as if you are not a Bemba!! I think its time for some people to see what they have never seen before. Remember, after killing each other they will be development in Zambia. Look HOW RWANDA IS DEVELOPED AFTER THE WAR!!!!! DO IT MAN!

    • Why don’t you set the ball rolling by killing a Lozi near you. That will encourage your fellow Bembas and Ngonis to do the same.

    • Im a Bemba, no sorry a lala, with a Lozi wife. She is an angel. Just being with her she makes me love all the Lozis.

    • You spew tribalistic vitriol and think that it helps in any situation? You make references to war in Rwanda in a manner that suggests that you would welcome it in Zambia. You obviously say that because you live in RSA but you forget that other people who love who they are, Zambians, would much rather see this resolved without having to resort to a war that would only escalate already dodgy tribal relations in this peaceful country. If the alleged BLA group are they, they should be apprehended and their group dismantled. But there also needs to be clear dialogue that should address the matter at the root of the problem.

  7. GBM you can not use “equal development” in the same sentence with your tribal government. Nice to hear that you are very popular in Sesheke Lol! Your relative said that the BLA was in Lukulu. What were you doing in Sesheke? You went to ntimidate customs officials to clear your contraband you are refusing to pay duty on. Finally I hope the people of Barotseland when will not denounce something that has not been proved to be TRUE. GBM You’ve failed to run the country and you want to divert peoples attention with anti Lozi propaganda. It is your loose tongues that will set the country on fire!

    • @9.1, You say, ‘We will continue ruling them’, who are the ‘we’, I hope the ‘we’ are not the same people with big egos who won’t tolerate each other and react by brutally hounding each other from office so primitively.

  8. BY LOOKING AT SOME COMMENTS IT SEEMS DIASPORA PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO CIVIL CHAOS IN WESTERN PROVINCE IN PARTICULAR AND ZAMBIA IN GENERAL. THE FACT THAT YOU ARE ABROAD AS INDIVIDUALS DOES NOT MEAN ALL YOUR CLANS ARE ALSO SAFE ABROAD. I AM PRETTY SURE THAT SOME OF YOUR RELATIVES ARE BACK HOME. CHECKING BY THE FLAGS IT’S ONLY DIASPORA CHAPS WISHING FOR CIVIL STRIFE IN ZAMBIA. VIVA PF. KEEP THE PEACE IN THE COUNTRY. KK AND OUR FORE FATHERS STRUGGLED HAD TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN IT. CONTINUE WHERE THEY LEFT OFF.

  9. #3.mwebantu. Apart from people like you, ie bemba/lozi, and several other hybrids across Zambia, there are those other tribes in western province who don’t agree with the antics of this renegade group bla, such as the nkoya, mbunda, luvale etc. And so this renegade grouping must be nipped in the bud, pronto!

    • So which ethnic group is behind this? Think through the stuff you post. Your tribalism and prejudice always comes through no matter how you want to mask it. Tell us the people behind this group or else just shut the fcuk up!

  10. ZAMBIA IS THE ONLY COUNTRY WHICH CAN LEAVE ITS CITIZENRY RECRUITING PEOPLE TO FORM AN ARM
ASK NAMIMBIA WHERE ALL THESE NOSENSE STARTED FROM.
TELL US JUST SHOOT THEM AND FORGET ABOUT IT
,LEADERS OF THIS GROUPS SHOULD BE DISPEARING.LET US ACT QUICKLY

    • Does the group even exist. PF chaps you smoke too much dagga from your man at the top to cadres like you. You’re now hearing voices and seeing little green men in military attire. Nothing but symptoms of schizophrenia setting in.

  11. @13&14. Just shut up. No such group exists. It is the usual nonsense from PF hoodlums who have failed to run the ciuntry. You and your foolish political leaders should tell us the people behind this group after all you have the actual numbers of people who have been recruited. How can you know the actual numbers without knowing the recruiters and the recruited? Bloody liars be careful with your lies as you are only spreading hatred against an ethnic group.

    • Ma you are so bitter as per your tone in this passage. Please be cool man, otherwise you will die of grudge. You contradict yourself to much…shaaa.

    • @Truth Hates…..you’re a typical PF cadre. No thread is complete before you intervene with your idi.otic charge of “bitter”. Go bark at someone else! Retard!

    • No, Zambia is not the only country that as your say ‘allows it’s citizenry’ to recruit members to their illicit group. in many countries. Their motivations can be political but more often than not, tend to be religious-tribal in nature. So wether of not they actually exist is arguable, but factually, there is potential of one existing in Zambia as in many other countries. To a great degree, it’s comments from our elected and incompetent leaders in gov that fuel the hate. Zambia has over 70 different dialects that have lived in relative peace; in comparison Rwanda only had two and we all know what happened there.

  12. #8, What you are encouraging GBM to do is very dangerous. Which Bembas and Ngonis are ready to go and kill fellow Zambians in Western Province. Don’t try to create a Bemba/Ngoni alliance against the rest. The other ethnic groups are also capable of forming alliances.

  13. Yesterday it was Tongas Under Oath. Today it is Barotseland Liberation Army. Is this not an issue of hallucinating and fearing your own shadow? The 90 days donchi kubeba shadow?

  14. The president speaking through his anus hasalaready ordered you to fly trips by jets to Lukulu not to go for a fact finding mission, what are you still waiting for? The anus has already spoken. So you belive that the anus speeaks rubbish and you want to use diplomacy and not force , well done but Aruta Continua with Barosteland Independence

  15. Just ignore those who are born bitter and frustrated to rot in their grudge.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother ambia.

  16. Just from the language you can even deduce some peoples’ tribe! SOme are bitter, others war mongers & others purely *****ic!
