The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the Copperbelt has arrested a Patriotic Front (PF) Ward Councillor in Luanshya and another person for corrupt practices involving KR 1,000 (K1 Million).

ACC Acting Spokesperson Queen Chibwe confirmed the development in a press release made available to ZANIS in Ndola today.

Gershom Mpundu, a PF Councilor for Ward 23 Baluba in Luanshya, and Evaristo Chisenga a resident of Mpatamatu in Luanshya were arrested on Friday and charged with Corrupt Practices with a Private Body contrary to Sections 20 (2) as read with Section 66 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

According to Ms Chungu details are that Gershom Mpundu and Evaristo Chisenga on dates unknown but between 1st April 2012 and 17th April 2012 in Luanshya jointly and whilst acting together corruptly gave KR 1,000 (K1 Million) cash gratification to Yarmson Njalili, a Human Resource Officer at 15 MCC Milyashi Mine as an inducement.

The reward according to the statement was meant for Mr Njalili to offer employment to Evaristo Chisenga at Milyashi Mine.

The two were remanded in custody by the Luanshya Subordinate Court at Luanshya Prison awaiting the ruling on their bail application which will take place on 7th March 2013.

  1. I guess K1000,REIMBURSED is too little a money to call it corruption, thus daily petty cash for my son at Ngambela secondary school.

    • @Malinso, there is poverty in Zambia, especially under PF. During Chiluba or MMD so to say, people used to make money. Police Officers could go home with a salary everyday. But under this PF, even ka K1million kukukaka.

  2. Too bad leaders being caught in monies as low as KR1000 anyway my belief is petty things always lead to jail then Kapoko’s type of corruption will always be acquitted reasons being several law enforcers can have a piece of cake from the ordeal, so i don’t believe if its justice’ my point or what i see is to steal more and u get acquitted. KR 1000 that one justice will follow u be assured. Corrupt with descent fees thus my advice

    • I thought pipo cried when there was something about our Judicial system in Zambia & the cried also about the famous Malawian Judge.
The same loud mouths with no directions, were the 1st to cry about the nemed aquital case and many more, need not mention.
      I though they were happy.
Only feel sorry for everyone they have managed to blind they try to gain political mileage.

  3. and yarmson njalili? infract extend the investigations to others involved in employment at this mine .things are not done straight as far as employment is concerned

  4. Dont tell us this nonses, tomorrow u will tell us that they are corrupt free. Anti Anticorruptioniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  5. Jail even big fishes as well. Not always jailing nonentities, we are tired of selective justice…shaaaa

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  6. It takes more than a week for someone’s bail application to be heard…. in a matter involving KR1,000? That’s shameful.
