Protect Albinos- Minister

Government says recent attacks on Albinos reported in neighboring Tanzania may lead to special protection of Albinos in Zambia.

Health Minister, Kapembwa Simbao, is suggesting that the ministry of home affairs puts in place measures to protect the Albinos in Zambia.

Mr. Simbao was speaking in parliament on Tuesday.

And Health Deputy Minister, Mwendoi Akakandelwa said government doesn’t have any records on Albino babies born in Zambia between 2004 and 2006.

Mr. Akakandelwa has also acknowledged that there is no law to protect albinos in the country.

He was responding to a question from Kantanshi member of Parliament Yamfwa Mukanga who wanted to know how many Albino babies were born between 2004 and 2006.

Mr. Mukanga also wanted to know whether there is a law to protect Albino babies against discrimination and stigma.

Recent reports indicate that some Albinos in Tanzanian and Burundi had been murdered and their body parts used for making lucky charms.

  1. It is an issue of rituals and beliefs. Are we practising them and at what rate? By creating such laws it implies we have discrimimanted them. How do we create and enforce such discrimatory laws.Enforce witchcraft The police officers are the ones that are supposed to protect the vulnerable groups in general such as kids, girls albinos etc. not really to specify albinos

  2. One Zambia one nation, albino or not albino we are all Zambians, the same law which protects every black skin man in Zambia, protects albinos as well, as long as they are Zambian.

  3. these pipo are disriminated in schools and other public places, they dont get good medical attention for their skin let alot infor on how best to mantain it.i know a dr who is an albino and because he is aware of how to care for his skin,he looks very good.famillies with this kind of children need infor. thats very important.once there was a teacher who was and when he died from an ear infection.pipo travelled long distances to see him burried as it was believed they just disappear. he was well known because he was a regular on let the pipo talk

  4. Sad indeed!! I was reading about it on the bbc yesterday and its terrible even spreading as far as Burundi. As if discrimantion is not bad enough now they have to worry about threats on their lives.

  5. iwe chi no3. how dare u insult me. Anyway, i don’t blame u. Its clearly the one who gave birth to u who has a problem. atase!

  6. no.3. it seems those are the exact lines ur using for all ur contributions, even in the other articles. Why don’t u make meaningful contributions other than criticizing others. Remove the log in ur eyes before u remove the speck of dust in ur neighbour’s eye!

  7. one zed, one nation, they are our brothers and sisters lets support and encourage them in various skills, right now am enjoying John chiti’s music and the other day on ZNBC i was listening to medical advice from our albino doctor from livingstone.

  8. Any elaborate law/laws that will be enacted to protect albinos will just deepen their woes as discrimination against them will increase. Lets be careful when dealing with such issues. The D/Minister was wrong to single them out. Talking about the issue right now will just trigger interest in whitchdoctors to try inducing business with the albino bait. The better thing for the Minister to do was to talk about protection for the vulnerable in general.

By the way guys, Govt thru Department of Culture is considering scraping the witchcraft Act. The argument is that its not applicable to modern Zambia.

  9. And what about other people who get killed for similar reasons and Akakandelwa wants special laws created? What for?

  10. chi # 11…..if I have nothing to contribute on a topic I keep quiet! Dont you think that makes more reasonable sense than standing up to contribute on a story and ending up with…..uuummmmm number 1…? THINK!

  11. we have to protect albino’s at all costs. Ku toba aba lechusha ba albino. Ku Tanzania kwamene uko pa zed siti funa demonic behaviour

  12. How many ministers in the new government are not northerners? And what post’s have been allocated to them?.

  13. Hon Mkanga has raised a very important point, but I think all physically challenged need laws that will protect them. Remember it can happen to any family

  14. These are normal people with spirits , souls and bodies . Jesus Christ dead for them and on the third day he rose from the dead .They should not be rejected , let us love them . I strongly condem the act in TZ

  15. its an issue of wealth, zambians want to get rich quickly. thats the problem. Tanzania is known for rituals of quick cash.i heard a story of how people are selling their lifespans for wealth. you sale 15yrs and die after meaning you will bewealth for that time but when you die you family also looses you wealth as they cant inherit anything unless they also connected to the rituals. thats why some pipo just get rich overnight

  16. # 25 When Jesus died there were no Albinos so if they can be used as lucky charms just go ahead and make money. Money is money from an Albino or not. Please lock them up before we start cutting of their Limbs

  17. were are the likes of,Georgia Russia, spectator, maestro hehehehe, babyc, captitalist, ponyax,we miss your contributions.pliz u show up or else we shall suspect u were fake bloggers lol

  18. #28 When Jesus Christ dead for us we were not there so are Albinos .Now listen to me there is power in the BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST to transform your life , because Jesus Christ is the same he change not

  19. #32 gal power kanyama.

Hello gal power.Am around. And what do you mean by fake bloggers???

This really makes a very sad reading. surely albinos need protection especially were discrimination is concerned. killing in the name of money? its not fair. they too deserve to live freely.Am sure they are now living in fear knowing that their lives are at stake. This is unacceptable.

  20. #34 Kamalondo I hope you’re only kidding us with your strangely sub-human comments at #28. If not, I suggest you read a book by an American Professor called “The Most Dangerous Animal: Human Nature and the Origins of War” by David Livingstone Smith.

  21. Please pipo, leave vi dangwaleza alone! They only have a skin disorder and are as human as can be, no different from me or you!

  22. Breaking news: Zambia parliament votes to increase salaries. Check Post Website. Shame on RB. It’s too soon.

  23. In dec 2006 a white man was killed in ibex hills lusaka. His hands and feet were missing it could it be the same thing.

  24. Yeah man #40, me was at a concert last summer when Salif Keita perform, de man tough like iron! Him mash up London City fe real. And me haffi big up de King Yellowman too, him inspire I an’ I fi years!

  25. Some of these ministers, what is he up to? Why believe in witchcraft? Leave those nonses to Tanzanias, and stop insightful Zambians. Why are they arresting innocent priest as insight peace, while you leave these so-called MMD leaders promoting manslaughter?

  26. Classifying Albinos into a category is discrimination. Let there be one law which says killing of a person regardless is a crime. dont start making specal laws for certain pple.

  27. The health minister should have time to check his files,I have an albino child who was born in 2005 and have met Albino children who are below 5yrs. Please protect them.

  28. Why is it that in Africa we have cheap funny things like that? Is it high levels of illiteracy? Those infected with HIV are told to sleep with kids to get rid of the illness, those who want to get rich they have human body parts prescribed to them, now it is the Albinos. Such things should involve stiff punishments. Please do something.

  29. The albinos should be shown love by every one as they are also human beings. I had a friend by the name of Asted Simfukwe in Kitwe and he was such a briliant chap.Even girls were figthing each other because of him.

  30. Eudcaiton is the key. Ililerttae mssaes wlil neevr udrnestnad melainn dfiecincey and wlil awlays msytfiy the ovboius. Eevn I uesd to tihnk tehy jsut dsiapepar utnil grdae sveen. Ecah one sohuld taech one…
