Government has confirmed that Information and Broadcasting Minister Kennedy Sakeni is India on scheduled medical review.

In an interview, Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda said Mr. Sakeni is India for a planned medical review.

Mr. Shamenda who is now the acting Information Minister and Chief Government Spokesman said his counterpart will return home once he completes his review programme.

“He is away in India and we are expecting him to return once that is completed. You know am just acting as Government Spokesman so I will return to my substantive position once Honourable Sakeni returns,” Mr Shamenda said.
“He was supposed to have undergone this medical review a few months ago but he had to delay it because of work commitments.”

He said Mr. Sakeni has been in contact with a few cabinet colleagues and that he is doing alright.
There was heavy speculation on social media Saturday night about Mr Sakeni’s health status with some postings suggesting that the Mansa Central MP had died in India.

    • am one person who used to post bad comments about this man.from deep down my heart i say sorry.Afterall he is forced to side with the party he belongs to .I wish you well mr Sakeni.

    • Is UTH closed?
This tendency is unacceptable! we would rather GRZ got into a professional services exchange with the Indians, whereby they come in as expatriates and work side by side our Zambian medics inorder to enhance exchange of experiences and knowledge sharing! The same money these guys are spending is more than enough to host specialist expatriate doctors who would benefit a larger population and enhance skills transfer into our local health care system.

    • That is private, the public does not have to know

It is not like we are talking about the head of state here

Small country abysmal government, backwards people.

      Thanks

    • Since South Africa has been killing all the ailing Government dander heads who went to Morning Side Clinic now India is the new destination!

    • @nubian, you sound like the watchdog today!!!

Get well soon Sakeni,,, ku india nako! one month medical reveiw sure! there must be a very long mu line. we hope to see you soon,,, personal i miss the drama get well soon

    • Whatever you all above say, KABIMBA doesn’t care at all, especially on sick PF members who may have even contributed to the decaying PF. He may not even have visited Ba Sakeni even a single minute in his life.

  1. So you confirm that WDZ have better and up to date inform. Good lucky and recover soon. Do die we need you after 2016

    • Better information only on politicians? News is more than politics. If a newspaper has just one mole they can leak a lot about politicians. That doesn’t mean that publication has better info

  2. The acting spokesperson is more comfortable chorusing about the whereabouts of Sakeni but not the president. Cadres like Shamenda are lowest of the low.

    • iwe Sata is not acros the thames, he is across the ganges consulting those tu ng`anga for KK,, why he lost the bye elections..

    • @Allan, This is interesting, it’s like you saw me this morning on the 220 bus from Wandsworth on my way to Hammersmith and as we crossed the Putney bridge I looked everywhere but did not spot him. lol

    • You did not spot him because he was in the Eastend jogging around the Olympic stadium after which he went for a few lengths in the Olympic swimming pool.

    • @The London Eye, you should have headed towards King Edward VII Hospital W1G 6AA instead of W6 8AB… you would have seen him. Lol. @Ndobo, am 100% certain that Sata is in London.

  3. I always wonder why these so called politicians don’t want to revamp the operations of the local hospitals. For instance, they can say ok guys we are in gvt and let us not waste money on by elections but instead buy medicine for the local hospitals and indeed equipment. All these reviews in SA, India, London will be the things of the past. I love KK, when he has BP or anything to do with his health, he prefers UTH than these ganglion’s who want to go for a knee review in SA. Please politicians napapata work tirelessly at improving the health sector because one day, another political party will take over and you wont be going for the so called medicals.

    • iwe iwe,,,KK is the one who `discovered` the spice route to india.. only that those days there was proper media black out!

  4. Why is it that the govt always responds after online media publication?had it not been for ZWD,i wouldnt have known the wereabout of landlord plot one.pull up your……………

  5. The problem with these international hospitals, they have no antimalarial drugs and the HIV/AIDS drugs are different. I carry my own anti malaria drugs.
Unless you want to completely renew your blood.

  6. SATA’S GOVT IS FULL OF INVALIDS. AWE BANE WE NEED A HEALTHY GOVT. TAKWABA FROM BA PRESIDO TO SAKENI BONSE BALWELE.

  7. Does anyone know why the famous George Chellah has gone mute these days, where is he? Has he been promoted?

    • This habit of going out for medical reviews has become the in thing. His Boss has passed it on. Who know he too may be out for a medical.

  8. Zambia is so WONDERFUL and comedy free.

Was wondering why???? So it is because Sakeni and Ukwa are on death beds.

    Seriously ill but Stable.

Yaba. Sakeni is ONLY useful when sick, cause we are saved from his useless rants.

  9. This is sinister on the part of Shamende. He is taking Zambians for fools. By revealing that Sakeni is in India, he wants to divert our attention and questioning of the where about of the big fish, the landlord of plot one. Pathetic.

  10. PF Party is full of patients, and they are draining heavily on our national coffers, with Sata being the heaviest spender. PF is just a lavish and corrupt party. You are draining too much of our money in a shortest space of time.

  11. We should not talk about presido’s sickness becoz we’ve always known that his health I not ok. We should just be concerned about who goes to Manda Hill. If presido’s is sick and Manda Hill is sick, then we are in maningi problems.

  12. They don’t want to tell you that he is dead in one go, here is the plan on how they want to prepare the people:-

day1: he is india for review
    day2: his condition has worsened
    day3: he is dead
day4: the death was unexpected as he was perfectly healthy

    • They might even say he is Jogging along the river ganje (sp) and watching Hindu dances.

      Oh he has just died.

  13. If my father doesn’t eat food at his home, I would not expect him to listen to his family’s food related complaints let alone act upon it. Equally with due respect to our leaders, I don’t think they can ever improve things in the health sector if they do not benefit from it. All life is precious rich or poor and if the service is not good enough for them then, it is not good enough for any citizen. I hope its abuse of tax payers’ money. KK had his flaws but I comment him for using the local health service. Nensoni nakalya ati they are leaders from a nation with a joke of a health service, where the local doctors cannot do medical reviews. If we lack specialist doctor why not train our own. Wish we could stand up against this shameless act by our leaders. Animal Farm shall we say?

  14. This is why they don’t care about UTH .They use tax payers money for their ill health and leave UTH without oxygen.

  15. Mr Shamende well done. Every public figure voted in by the people he is answerable to his or her employers (Those who gave him/her a job to hold a public office). This is even more important for President SATA as the CEO of Zambia. His job too comes from the people of Zambia hence when he goes for treatment of medical review or whatever they choose to call it, the employers (people of Zambia) of Michael SATA must know. If you do not tell the employer where you are when they expect you in office that is tantamount to absent-ism. Until these politicians understand who their real employers are, they will not change their behaviour. The tradiotional rulers in Zambia are the only ones not employed by the people but they are simply born in the royal family hence hod different portfolio.

  16. We have a govt full of sick people who are not able to commit all their time to working for the voters.Think about that next time ama zambians.

    • AWE 2016 is too far.
We need something to be done agently. ………………………………………………
Build hospitals and open more universities before I finish my term of study, on how to govern.
hahahahahahahaha. anti power is sweetie, kufwa nachalo chashala. Resign and nurse yourselves -Chaps
      No more state funerals

  17. PF Govt induced cyclic programs in our Country: – – – > Campaign for bye elections – – > Secret dash to India for medical treatment – – > Appointment of opposition MP into Govt office – – > Defections of MPs to ruling party – – – > Secret dash to India for medical checkup – – > Campaign for bye elections – – > and the cycle starts all over again.

  18. While I’m all for the idea that we all have access to medical treatment, does it always have to cost me money — those are my tax kwachas sending one government and his family to a far off place — a place I will not see.

I’m not a smart man, but if I were to add up the costs of the amount of money we’ve spent sending government officials for medical treatment or review, couldn’t we have built a proper hospital by now.

May I be bold enough to say that we can also import these doctors together with the equipment that we keep travelling for.

But who will listen to me — having a modern health facility everyone can use would be progressive. And who wants that?

Let us remain bitter and continue to hope that one day a savior will come and rescue us.

    Wake up.

    • The Watchdogs dogs always watches over them. They are spoton cause they are positioned at the gate and see them leave.

If Ukwa watches over chief Jumbes bedroom, the Watchdog does the same in Ukwa’s Bedroom.

  19. Politicians are greedy and selfish.

Instead of investing money in hospitals in Zambia and providing affordable health services to all, they are busy travelling to India, UK and South Africa. Hospital costs, air tickets, diem (do not be surprised even when they are travelling for medical check ups, reviews and surgery they are withdrawing per diem) add up to billions.

  20. Its like Mr Shamenda has just spotted his colleague in India and ddnt know where he was all the time. Be proactive! You dont have to wait for the media to tell the nation. Now Sir, tell us where Ukwa is being examined and settle the dust. This sneaking habit mukafilwa ukulondolola nga batusha!

  21. am sorry that you are not well sakeni, but what about ordinary people who cant afford to go abroad for medical attention wat do u have in stock fo them,no wonder ken u talk rubish to please yo masters to pay fo yo bills,yo salary cant sustain you this shud mek u upgrade uth and other hospitals with the same money, look at countries like south africa.

  22. Watchdog said it. Sakeni Seriously ill.

The Watchdogs dogs always watches over them. They are spot on cause they are positioned at the gate and see them leave.

If Ukwa watches over chief Jumbes bedroom, the Watchdog does the same in Ukwa’s Bedroom.

  23. Wishing you a very quick painful death and may your soul rest in perpetual problems

  24. JUST SHOWS HOW DULL OUR LEADERS ARE?? YOU MEAN WE CAN NOT REVAMP ONE HOSPITAL TO OFFER PROPER MEDICAL TREATMENT?? GUESS IT’S THE ONLY WAY THEY WOULD CLAIM THEIR TRAVEL ALLOWANCES / WORKING HOLIDAY. INDIAN HOSPITALS ARE DEAD DIRTY?? DON’T KNOW WHAT MAKES THE PLACE DIFFERENCE?? JUST FOR THE NAME OVERSEAS??? EMBARRASSING

  25. By Lucky Mulusa – Solwezi Central Member of Parliament

The wrangling that is going on in the opposition party fraternity is an indication that Zambia is about to make a turn for the better but the ever alert devil is at work not to make it happen.

This fact can be noted from the events in which we are beginning to see reversals in the gains Zambia has achieved on many fronts especially in terms of our democracy and political maturity.

We have observed lately that the old order is refusing to give way to the new order:
    1. This is happening in the PF where the party’s pre-occupation is to take Zambia back to the old days of one party state;
    2. It is also happening where there seems to be the re-emergency of UNIP style of politics of insulting and assaulting elderly people;…
