Renard drafts two for CHAN

Coach Herve Renard has included Power Dynamos midfielder Thomas Nyirenda and Nchanga Rangers defender George Chilufya in the Zambia CHAN team to face Zimbabwe in Ndola on Saturday.

And midfielder Kondwani Mtonga has been suspended for the return leg of the final CHAN qualifying round against Zimbabwe after collecting two yellow cards.

Chilufya and Nyirenda are part of Renard’s side which has set up camp in Ndola to prepare for The Warriors.

Nyirenda’s call-up appears to have been triggered by the suspension of
Mtonga who received a yellow card in Sunday’s away qualifier in Zimbabwe and another in the first round, first leg match against Botwana on August 3.

The home-based Chipolopolo squad must beat Zimbabwe at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to qualify for South Africa 2014 CHAN.

The two teams played out to a scoreless draw in the first leg match in Harare on Sunday.

  1. Yakosa, no Mukuka Mulenga and Kondwani??
Renard should just pack the midfield with strikers
    – Ngonga ku right
    – Rodrick ku left
    – Bruce pa mid
    – Kangwa, Mwape, Festus, Phiri all up chasing the ball.
    – Defense is just fine.

  2. Why not Kennedy Mudenda, anyway Thomas is okay though the suspension of Mtonga is a big blow… Good luck boys!

  3. George Chilufya is a very good defender! i have always been positive that one day he’ll get a call-up to the national team. I have watched him several times at Nchanha Stadium, and, compared to most defenders, he is very good. His tackles are clean, a good team captain too. Chilu, take your chance.

  4. thomas nyirenda akapangisha penoti apart from missing penoti umwine, lwenu!!!

  5. Thomas Nyirenda is not good enough.I have watched him several times at Arthur Davies Stadium. He is a flop.
