Police in Lusaka have summoned MMD President Nevers Mumba for questioning following his appearance on a radio programme on Joy FM last Thursday.
Lusaka Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa confirmed that Dr Mumba was summoned to appear on Friday but asked for more time to prepare.
“Yes we sent a call out to his residence but he asked for more time. We have then settled for Monday at 10 Hours. It’s a routine investigation and we just want him to help us with investigations. I cannot give you more details now,” Ms Kasosa said.
But Dr Mumba’s Special Assistant Raphael Nakachinda confirmed that the MMD leader has been summoned regarding some of the statements he made during a radio programme on Thursday.
[pullquote]“The country is a state of confusion because President Sata cannot govern without confusion. He thrives in confusion. Zambia will always be in a confused state because the Head of State likes confusion,” Dr Mumba said during the radio programme.[/pullquote]
“Dr Mumba was invited by Joy FM to appear on the Platform radio programme and he accepted. President Sata was not happy that Joy FM hosted Dr Mumba and called in the middle of the broadcast and threatened the radio station with revocation of their broadcast licence if the programme is not withdrawn,” Mr Nakachinda said.
He said Dr Mumba gave a detailed and objective analysis of the two year rule of the PF which President Sata did not take nicely.
“So the police have asked Dr Mumba to appear for questioning and we have obliged to be at the police station on Monday,” he said.
And some police sources have disclosed that Dr Mumba is likely to be charged with Defamation of the Police.
“We are under instruction to find something in his interview at Joy FM to charge him for and our boss wants him to be slapped with defamation of the President,” a police source revealed.
Dr Mumba referred to President Sata as a man who thrives in a state of confusion and that he is sitting on a throne created using lies.
“The country is a state of confusion because President Sata cannot govern without confusion. He thrives in confusion. Zambia will always be in a confused state because the Head of State likes confusion,” Dr Mumba said during the radio programme.
Well well well. The cobra strikes again.
This particular cobra can only spit as it traded its vernom for the presidency. It’s vernom is withheld by the “Bwinjifumu clique”.
wow! the zambian watchdog has been vindicated again, i thought the ZWD were making it up,, “Dr Mumba was invited by Joy FM to appear on the Platform radio programme and he accepted. President Sata was not happy that Joy FM hosted Dr Mumba and called in the middle of the broadcast and threatened the radio station with revocation of their broadcast licence if the programme is not withdrawn,”
The president personally called the radio station??,,, wow! this has never happened before by any our past presidents
And what is insulting?? it seem insulting has a different meaning in Zambia… calling someone a liar is an insult in Zambia
If this snake continues like this, I will be compelled to shift my support to Kabimba and his group! Zambia is a supposedly a democratic nation…NOT a KINGDOM !!!! People should learn from the criticisms of other people !!!! There should be no untouchables in the country !!!!! Mwanawasa was labelled a cabbage all the time of his presidency and he never threatened anybody with anything !!!!! This is TOTAL CONFUSION that we see thriving in this era of governance !!! VIVA KABIMBA !!!! VIVA MMEMBE !!!! VIVA HH !!! VIVA MUMBA !!!! VIVA RB !!!! VIVA MASEBO !!!! VIVA NAWAKWI !!!!
Propaganda
Damn nachilila kuno we are jiving to Zabianse muziek!
indeed no place like home even if the people back home dont realise and never appreciate one another!
Ba Nervous take heart those who persecute you have no idea, it is the eleventh hour, you are destined to lead, yes one day Zambia shall’il be served!
@Nubian, what propaganda naimwe…
The guy up here on right with leather jacket is not Mbesuma?
Nevers Mumba said Sata thrives on confusion because he is a master of confusion
Nevers should take this as a small bump along the way. Well done to Joy FM to resisting PF interference.
This is Circus, Well Done Joy FM, never get intimidated my Cobra, problem with Zambian leaders is that they always see themselves as above the law and the people who voted for them. A President calling a radio station?? Never heard of such. It is embarrassing and a failure by the President. Let people talk and express their views. Sata always criticized other former leaders even to an extent of calling Mwanawasa Cabbage.
Ha ha ha.Lets wait en see.
President Mikaeli Chilufya Sata you are a great amn please stop worrying about mmd they are gone and it will take a generation for them to come back!! so this endless harassment of mmd will cause the masses to feel pity for a party they loathe
Sata is on a seat that was made from lies as raw material
He’s an emperor without clothes! A naked king ! (A man with everything except dignity & purpose)
No amount of persecution will change the view of the masses that PF lied.
I will wait for more data before making an informed comment. No comment for now.
Because you are not the original “Saulosi.” The owner of the name aleisa.
@Sauliso,
I thought your wife advised you to take it easy.Listen to what she is saying. She loves you and needs some attention. Devote most of your time to your family. If the addiction persists see a doctor or a Psychiatrist. I wish I could help. Today, Saturday, take a break. If you have a car, drive out. Do not be angry with your wife for going public. Hug, kiss her, and thank her for caring. If you respond to this advice and continue with you blogging then you are severely sick. This goes for others too.
@Saulosi thanks for the imposter in you.You are however not far from the truth.I don`t normally comment on stories like this because there is barely no official correspondence in this story apart from that coming from Joyce Kasosa.I will let this one pass@Psychologist…i can see that you are enjoying changing your user names to attack me.The other day you appeared as “Nostradamus”,yesterday as “Saulosi wife” and today as Psychologist”.I don`t think your doing so is helping matters. It could be better if you started contributing to debates without fear, favour or being bias. Anyway i`m out of here for now, i`m busy watching the Liverpool game while drinking a cold one.Have a pleasant day yal !!!!
Ha ha ha. What data? Come out and fight. Bloggers have called you an excellent balancer to the debates. Don’t disappoint us.
@Jungle boy i don`t comment on half baked stories. There is too much “some sources” in this story.I only comment if the source of the story is official.I will let it is slide.By the way it is 0-0 at half time in the game between Liverpool and Southampton for all the football lovers.
@psychologist.
which others.
please be specific.
@saulosi,
do not worry over these bloggers with more than one pseudo.
they just cheat themselves over nothing.
sheer waste of time and money for nothing.
@ mature thanks bro.Well said.I will follow your advice.
me also mwandi
@Sauliso, I don’t think psychologist means harm. If I were you I would take his advice. Sometimes we get carried away and ignore well-intended people and regret. He may not be the bloggers you mention, but who ever he is, he means good. He is not criticizing you, but offering help. Take it.
Ha ha ha.Now you have changed to Zamene.Dude get a life.Lol
@ Saulosi: Liverpool Lost hope you still continued enjoying your Cold one. Good game though and great for We MAN UTD supporters, Liverpool just had to drop points as well. Waiting for Monday’s outcome on Mumba. So debate postponed to then. Have a great day.
Just go to court and mention the lies sata told.
It pains when a lies are exposed. Every effort is made to bury them by even involving the police.
Dr Mumba referred to President Sata as a man who thrives in a state of confusion and that he is sitting on a throne created using lies. Kikikikiki………….. well said Doc, right now zambia is in a state of double confusion
When will this PF police force summon PF hooligans for their many violent acts and even deaths?
Nevers should take this as a small bump along the way. Well done Joy for resisting PF interference.
defamation of HH…..kale apo or never!!
Bravo Joy FM!!!!!
were in the world do u think Police’s job is to issue cadres permit and summoning political leaders damn! Zambia , no progress some dull things happening … follow Germany politics even Obama on opposition never met with police nor did he made a single comment about Bush.
this sata is so pety.he even folows phoening in programs at state house sure!.the man is becoming worse than the devil now.
Who made RB lose last elections?
Rupiah himself
Who will make Sata lose next elections?
Sata himself
By summoning and persecuting opposition leaders, suppressing freedom of speech and assembly, Sata is building resentment among the masses. That resentment will turn into disliking and disliking will turn into votes against PF.
PF is on self-destruction mode.
Ruphia lost the elections because people believed in Ukwa’s lies peddled by the past. You do RB a great disservice to put him in the same category as the luna.tic currently using state house as a hospital ward.
Exactly !
Their self destruction button is on ! And they are paddling the Chibwato at 3000 km/h !!! It’s time for me and my relatives to jump over board to safety!!!
bwijinfumu made RB lose elections out of their hatred for the man……………….and since 80% of our population is illiterate people believed.
Its better to think with logic and not emotion. Dr. Mumba may or may not be right in the things he said, which we dont know yet, except for those who listened to the program. That notwithstanding, I do not want a leader who’s only agenda is criticizing others. I want a leader who’s agenda includes outlining programs and strategies for the development of the country. Dr. Mumba, I am ready to work with you, or anyone else, if you can say what your line of action is once you get in power. The stuff you criticize of the incumbent is stuff we all can see or ourselves. What we want to know from a leader is not the mistakes of the incumbent, but what that leader will do different.
We spend too much time on these political trivial issues instead of concentrating on issues that would genuinely lead to development. Both the opposition and the ruling party are to blame for their part in this, but the citizenry also play a role by making it seem as though it is all that matters.
For as long as this continues, we won’t go anywhere, and we’ll be watching while countries like South Africa have black students making significant milestones in science and countries like Botswana develop at a pace not thought possible of a Third World Country…
Let’s open our eyes and attend to issues that really matter, not this political triviality.
It’s the responsibility of any government to provide leadership and necessary environment for research, industrial innovation. If the government thinks they hold exclusive knowledge to developing the country then I don’t see us making progress. Try dialoguing with the government on what we the creative minds would like the government to invest in. It’s like talking to a brick wall.
Because Botswana presidents are mature they are not trivial and spiteful like Zambian presidents especially sata chilufya
What is the difference between Rupiah Banda and Michael Chilufya Sata ? you can derive as many answers as possible thus, may I take the opportunity by giving you the first and foremost answer – 1. RB – (he’ s educated and a professional- very diplomatic) = MCS – Uneducated and lack diplomacy.
(so continue with your own findings)
2.
Walasa iwe nga mukela !!!
Sata is a fulltime conman all his life who coned the Zambians into state house and now sitting on a throne crowned with lies. BUFI IS BUFI, IS CONMAN, IS LIAR . He coned Zambians but he cannot con God.
BRAVO NEVERS, BRAVO JOY FM
I thought it was the responsibility of the minister of Information & broadcasting to monitor radio stations. How come a whole president has the time to phone up radio stations with threats to revoke their licenses, doesn’t this confirm Nevers Mumba’s statement that there is confusion in the running of the country?
It takes one to know the other.
Given a chance, the Mumba would be a 1000 times confused after entering state house. Am sure Levy Mwanawasa is laughing wherever he is.
Does he have a plan or is he just fascinated with the idea of being president?
Sata’s so called government does not respect the dignity and the right to self-determination of Zambian people. It wans people to live according to its dictates, not the dictates of Zambian conscience. Its rule of law is not clear at all. It is inconsistent, inconsistent, partial and unjust. This government harasses, bullies, punishes, an threaten organizations that defend people’s rights. It perpetuates its power by fostering rampant corruption in Zambian courts through the discredited Interim Chief Justice, DPP, and Minister of Justice (examples abound: journalists, elections) . Its police summons an arrest people for having the audacity to tell the truth. In addition, it suppresses people’s rights by disallowing demonstrations and protests.
What a government? Here we are again!

WHAT TRIBE IS FRED MMEMBE?BECOUSE ITS LIKE THE MAN IS THE ONLY ONE WITH SUCH A SIRNAME IN ZAMBIA MMEMBE NO PALIBE MUMA SCHOOLS MOONSE
Mumembe is small place near lake Tanganyika. It is believed his father originates from that region. The mother is lozi though.
@Wanzelu,
Is it the same small place where the president originates from?
@We The People
No ,may be Sata comes from from sata island in Tanzania. I strongly believe he comes from Tanzania. He is a son of wakwere charcoal burner who settled in Mpika in the 1920s .That is why he never got far in school. Most of relatives have like Jean kapata are of Tanzanian heritage. Jean Kapata is Tanzanian from the wakwere tribe.
For those who disagree, please show us the evidence of his dad and school mates. The truth about his name can be found in the colonial register of police officers.
Just guessing because no one has come out to claim he was at school with sata.
I have started to like Dr. Nevers Mumba. One reason why RB picked him for was because Nevers is fearless and can match up to MCS. We have seen such summons before. MCS himself was a champion of such talk against Levy to the point where Levy just ignored him. Keep the pressure Nevers, we are behind you.
If elections were held today, who do you think would win?
His Excellency.Michael Chilufya Sata,
H.Hakainde,
Nevers Mumba,
…and Me?
not you but NM or HH
One would think the President has so much to do running a country instead of phoning in radio programmes! I think a medical review is essential because this behaviour is very suspicious.
That speech in parliament about separation of powers was B.S
Bushe mumembe ninshi?Am Bemba tho I don’t know the word.
Partly true. RB did a lot of good for Zambia. Jobs creation, infrastructure development (planned and within budget) were his achievements.
For Sata it is 100% correct that he will lose elections not because opposition is peddling lies or promising heaven on earth, but because he is weaving a rope to tie around his neck. It is his own doing.
Anybody but your disgraceful Sata
Saulosi, Liverpool is about to lose, trailing at 0-1
English Football? Here?
Why don’t you exchange info and IM each other?
Mumba and HH !!!
Guys keeping hammering where it hurts. The truth always drive dishonest people mad
Sata only works 3 days a week. And he has to waste a day, phoning a radio station to stop the opposition questioning his leadership. He wonders why his ministers cannot articulate their failures.
What’s all this nonsense ….
.Threatening RB with Treason, if he decides to come into politics
.Beating up RB’s son while campaigning
.Harassing RB’s family & relatives in and outside Zambia
.Constantly threatening Mumba to appear before the police
.Locking up Mumba with false accusations
.Blocking police permits, are the order of the day
.Threatening HH not to go to certain parts of the country for campaigns
.Going through HH’s Bank Accounts
.Sniffing into HH’s…
@Independent observer, sata working 3 days a week or a month?
3 HOURS A DAY
De jure 39#
Spot on and Word Up. Its pathetic !
@SAULOS……ARE YOU REALLY NORMAL MY FRIEND, SO THAT WIFE IN THE NAME OF BANA SAULOS IS FAKE RIGHT? I KN THIS SAULOS IS FROM KATONDO…
While am no fun of Dr. Mumba, I can’t bear not supporting him when it’s right. President thrives on confusion. In as far as he used to be a pragmatic man his politics don’t have a place anymore. He caused chaos in MMD hounding out Mwanawasa, who later became a reasonable president. He was fore-front ‘endorsing’ Chiluba for third term causing chaos in the party at the time for selfishly. Now he tells his ministers it’s not right. What kind of leadership, no consistency, full of trickery. Prof. Chirwa is another case in point; sending a totally wrong message to Zambia expertise home & abroad. The country is in a state of confusion at the moment. Ministers don’t know what to do. Then we have the Mmembe, Nchito factor corruptly owing money & serving him. Really makes my tummy turn.
UNZA class of 1989 speaks.
The biggest problem with Sata is that he still thinks that he is in opposition. How can the whole president reduce himself to a phoning in program?Truly this is total confusion indeed.
Even more confusion when a head of state does a phone in programe as if he is in opposition and Nevers is president of Zambia. For not even the minister or PS of information did what he did. And instead of asking his minister or PS in information to challenge Nevers or to explain and defend what PF has done, he decides to ask Cosmo Mumba who is a fellow confused chamba (ibange, ganja) man to insult Nevers. SHAME.
We have no president by practice but by principle only.
@Psychologist whn @Solousi says excuse me fr a coment is it dificulty to acept?Wht sought of pathological thnking is ths?And u say u re very educated! Is ths way educated pipo think?Haka Huluza chaps very self centred & filed with rage & insatiable lust fr ruling now votes re dificulty to amass. Its not easy baba ths industry u believe me.
I think there is great need to completely restructure the structural relationships between the Police Service and the political parties and government leadership in Zambia. The President should not have such a direct hand in the operations of the police. Maybe we have come to a situation where we need local police as rival police organizations to the national police like they have in the USA (local, state and national (FBI)). The local police are under the mayor of the town (and some, the sheriffs, are elected by the community), the state police are under the governor of the state and the FBI are under the President (FBI director is a cabinet level job). The police organizations keep tabs on each other and actually investigate one another! We need this in Zambia.
Let him remember hw he used 2 behave wen he in the opposition.let him nt b a baden 2 other political players
What is it that MMD didn’t do in 20yr rule that they wnt to do now? Give us a break former Pastor!
Are you referring to the disastrous first ten years of the MMD regime of which Ukwa was very much a big part of or the productive ten years in which Ukwa was not part of? What does Ukwa want to do now seeing that he was in the disastrous UNIP regime for 27 years and the disastrous MMD regime for ten years and disaster has followed him in the two years he has been president?
Them have respect for the MOG
Problems in zambia
Zambia surely it’s all about the PF. Looked at the LT headlines this morning it all had PF, HH, Nevers M… Bra bra bra. Pretty boring. The country is messed up with Sata. Sata doesn’t need to stand in the 2016 general election because is a thug. I wanted to live in peaceful country. I miss my old Zambia not this crap with ba PF cadets.
Who is Ukwa?
Dr Mumba never cease to amaze me, wrong statements keeps landing him into problems and he never seems to learn just like his name suggests. Wrong statements in Congo over bilateral relationship between Zambia and DR Congo when he was vice president under Mwanawasa coasted his job, when is this fake honorally Doctor Mumba going to learn how to be diplomatic in issuing political statements? Its unfortunate at this time in Zambia we don’t have serious credible opposition leaders, HH is a Liar and Nevers Mumba is a Lunatic leader, where are we going?
“Defamation of the Police?” Never heard of it. Whom exactly would one be defaming? An entity, institution, police cadres or what? I think early elections are in order in Zambia – on condition that voting is issue based and informed, there are civil parties in contention and they guarantee to restore some measure of sanity to governance.
Ba LT why do you keep my comments under moderation every time I post my comment? do I insult? I think you are keeping me off your site and that’s so unfair, please learn to embrace divergent views. act like professionals for once, and don’t be like Zambia watch dog.
I believe the government is not seeing what is happening with the current situation with PF cadres who are beating and harassing people and the president is quite over this and what will citizen say?
I believe the government is not seeing what is happening with the current situation with PF cadres who are beating and harassing people and the president is quite over this and what will citizen say? I for one, I feel the government is just too unfair on the opposition.
I used to follow SATA on almost allradio station programmes while in opposition He really criticised everything that RB did.I followed the whole programm on Joy FM by Nevers urguing the president who earlier on had castigated that there was no opposition in Zambia .Now its nevers insulting i think Mr SATA still leaves in past when a president could not be criticised
Well we are all not happy with the story of media interference but are yet to verify ,If true the president should avoid such and continue the good work he is doing.Mumba talk about the developments PF is doing not the so called campaign lies, am sure they meant well but have cash constraints hence the delayed promises.until 2016 help govern.
An appearance by a Government representative on the same media program under the same or a presenter that is more acceptable would also guarantee freedom of expression. Charging a critic by itself does not necesarily guarantee a favorable hearing from listeners and viewers. It is easy to prove that confusion is function of speaker and circumstances. If you want to see confusion, then that is what you see. If you are disposed to view progress in the country, then you will see progress. opposition will pounce on every opportunity to discredit government. But government should refrain from appearing short tempered.
Sata can dish it out but he cannot take it. What a pathetic man! I am beginning to like Nevers Mumba.
Can you bloggers also comment on US blocking Aljezeera at one time?! God bless Zambia.
Drama, drama, drama and the stage is the country Zambia. The actors are the ruling party members. Am very worried
That the country is slowly turning into a circus. No wonder there were
people like Hitler, Amin, Gaddafi and their suplorters.
