About 115 sex workers from various guest houses in Solwezi district have been arrested along with 54 men in the last two night operations that police conducted.
North-western Province Commissioner of Police Eugene Sibote confirmed the development to ZANIS in Solwezi today.
Mr. Sibote said 106 sex workers were picked up on Tuesday night while nine were rounded up last night from various named guest houses and lodges.
Mr Sibote has since expressed sadness that police have continued arresting sex workers from the same guest houses and lodges around the town centre which he said have become notorious.
He warned that police will not relent in its effort of bringing sanity in the district by curbing bad elements adding that guest house owners should put their houses in order or risk being taken to court for operating brothels.
Mr Sibote said this time sex workers will not only pay admission of guilt fine but that police will organize buses to ferry them to their various destinations under escort.
The police chief has since called on the Solwezi municipal council to conduct physical inspections on lodges and guest houses before renewing operating licences.
Mr Sibote said most of the guest houses are not operating as they should be but that they have become notorious for harbouring prostitutes and hide outs for criminals.

Ka Mushota what are you talking about ? you are busy living ‘The American dream’ by opening legs there. Ma levels aya pusene fye apa
Mr sibote,if these figures were representing arrested hard core criminals that are moving freely in your district,l would have saluted you,not amahule bwana sure..
FIKATENI FYALATUPWISHISHA INDALAMA!!!!!!
Fyanshi muyako lobe.
And whats the evidence like? Do police have pictures or videos of these people in the act? Lets concentrate on issues that develop our nation than just cheap politicking and just to be seen “working”. Disgusting!
Leave the sex workers alone! U can’t provide jobs for them were do u want them to go?? In the police u just employ your relatives! Let them make money to buy food which so expensive in Zambia today!
And why should the council get involved with this. The guest houses have to renew their licenses so the council can collect revenue. Rethink your position ba Sibotwe.
fighting the wrong crime, you will be shocked the police are clients too!
Are the men also sex workers or criminals. I think the police needs to be carefull to avoid being sued for privacy interference
The next town is chililabombwe where a known guest house at lubengele is operating as a brothel.
And why are these raids not also taking place in Lusaka? Oh, they might find some law makers “in da house”. However, that’s besides the point. Why is sexual intercourse such a big issue kanshi? Oh. Christian nation. I forgot. But, was it not Jesus the Christ who said let he without sin cast the first stone? He actually defended the prostitute. Thou shalt not use the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Don’t blame them just blame sata and poverty no jobs nothing to do Maman Kapokola think twice before acting i know a lot of thoso sex workers are from sinkaze camp in lusaka.
The police normally use hyper when they act in these circumstances. In my view, if these people are quote in the streets at wrong hours loitering or having sex on the streets then they can be arrested. However, if they are found in a guest house and they have consented to each other, then it can be an interesting case in court. I say so because constitionarly two consenting adults are allowed to have sex as long as they are not being an offense to anyone such as doing it in the public.
I meant to say ‘caught’.
Only way you will get the attention of the owners of guesthouses is if you threaten not to renew or cancel their alcohol licences.
Sounds very in-human and very indecent police behaviour against the poor sex workers.
Fornication and adultery are sin, according to the Bible is punishable by death for both the man and woman Deutronomy 22 verse 22. This was according to the Law of Moses (old testament). This law is followed by moslems in countries that are ruled under Sharia Law such as Sudan, Saudi Arabia but no longer practised by Christians. The Lord saw the hypocrisy of those persecuting sinners in the name of the Lord when they themselves were equally sinners. Perhaps the difference between us today and those Jews who brought the adulterous woman to Jesus (John 8 verse 7) is that those Jews were honest enough to admit that they were sinners and failed to stone the lady. My view is that we should teach morals, the word of God and materially empower citizens but leave vengeace to God (Romans 12vs19).
Do we arrest people for commiting adultery or pregnanting/being pregnanted? No, wnte do not. We treat these as moral issues which should be handled by the complainants through family/community discussion. For Christians and mere church goers, these acts are called sin and are dealt with by institutions (Church structures) set up in the body of Christ (through church discipline, confension, counselling and reconciliation). Mass arrests are definitely not going to work. They will scare people but the devil will devise other ways. We need to liberate the women and men involved in prostitution by changing them from inside so that they resist the urge. Marriages must also be strengthened so that no married man or woman is “starved’. Sex should not be used as a weapon to control your spouse.
Read the draft constitution and even the current constitution, it guarantees freedom of association and movement. Solicitation is a crime. So if a woman is based at a lodge and unmarried, does that make her guilty of solicitation? No.
Even a half arsed lawyer would poke holes in your case.
Great!!! Now I hope the government can give them jobs!
Legalise prostitution and support sex workers with health facilities and services.
ONCE ARRESTED GIVE THEM AN OVERDOSE OF VIAGRA AND AS A PUNISHMENT FORCE THEM TO HAVE SEX THE WHOLE DAYOR NIGHT CONTINUOUSLY, ONCE THEY BOTH DEVELOP HEART ATTACK LEAVE THEM AND CALL THE NEXT COUPLE IN THE LINE…………!!!!
Well ,well, there is clearly a sharp decline in morals countrywide.Prostitution is just one example .No wonder the deputy general of police has run out of ideas hoping a law can be made baning even types of dancing suggesting imorality(read the post newspaper,24 jan 2014 issue)That may include chinamwali by the way mr Jere.Truth is poverty and laziness yields such vices as theft ,prostitution e.t.c.One of what could be a solutions is to follow what other countries have done like india and most parts of Europe;make it legal but taxable so as to generate income to curb it.Not that i support it but this ,may help circumvent a negative to positive since we can not be hypocritical about the existence of prostitut
Now still on imorality,we could borrow a leaf from Botswana on how to deal with increased youth alchoholics.Apart from setting up rehabs(never heard of one in Zambia)Our neighbouring country has increased the price of alchoholic drinks to so high a price most unemployed youths can not afford. The excess profits from alchohol sales are chanelled back into productive youth projects.Such a simple but practical solution can easily be implemented if we do care for the shaping of youthful future of our nation. What about declining parental guidance? It may seem as parents need guidance to parenting and thats where it should all start. The building block of nations are families, individuals, you!
