Fire has destroyed goods worth K100 million in the inferno that gutted Chisokone Market early this morning.
Zambia National Marketeers Association(ZANAMA) Vice Chairman General Sidney Kayombo has disclosed that fire which occurred around 01.00hrs this morning destroyed goods in four containers.
In an interview with ZANIS , Mr Kayombo has attributed the cause of the fire to a suspected electrical fault .
He said it was difficult to intervene in the matter concerning the goods because the area affected by the fire is not part of the market .
HE however said a soft loan will be given to the affected people to enable them start afresh.
He urged suppliers dealing in electrical appliances to ensure that the goods are switched off at the end of each working day.
Mr Kayombo has thanked the fire brigade for coming on time and for salvaging some of the goods which were caught up in the fire.
Goods which were completely destroyed include clothes, television sets and fridges and other electrical appliances.

Ba Pastor, good afternoon!!
Something needs to be done here, year in year out. It really saddens me to see our mothers crying year in year! If there is one thing I hate is to see our mothers cry!
Yaba

Which chisokene market is this?
This is sad news…
as this is other people’s livelihood…
it saddens me to hear such
No: 6 – Not a good comment you have there.
Sad in deed. Why cant Kitwe get the morden markets like ND and LSK. This is way too much for so long.
These people never learn, Can those who owns restaurants be set aside so that when they become careless its their own baby to nurse, the’ve got a tendance of leaving things like beans on fire through out the night so that they find it ready the next morning.
Morning all! :)>-
Yaba! This market needs to be given a new name, pantu there is no way one market can keep getting gutted every year! may i suggest a name like “Talema Manje Market”?:-?
There is Chisokone market in Kitwe as well as Ndola. Which one was gutted?
Markets full of thugs, unfortunately they belong to a certain political party.. what can you expect from them? Give them leadership, they will burn GRZ documents and Banks.
**==**==
The Chisokone market in Kitwe near the town centre. Modern market must be erected on that land to avoid tragedies of such nature. We luck planning. no foresight. only planning to steal over noses.
Sad indeed.
Sorry it has happened again. Vera Chiluba’s campaign destination, she must go there again and console people through a small donation.

Chisokone market is a council market and not a political party one.
It’s high time GRZ and local governments got serious. The infrastructure pa Zed is pathetic! I remember during my childhood days how beautiful and clean C/belt cities were. Four years ago when I paid a visit there, a tear dropped out of my eye. It was really an eyesore, dilapidated buildings, litter, pollution, potholes, amatipa all over, yangu tata! I couldn’t even recognise Edinburgh hotel.:((
Build one like mandahill or acades to stop those fires.more crisis to chisokone marketeers,sorry ! 8-}
pa zede we are not serious. govt lets have a modern market at chisokone.
Tabomfwa bana maliketi naba shimaliketi bapachisokone. Govt wanted to put up a modern mkt there but you resisted. Look how beautiful those newly built markets in Ndeke, Nakadoli and buchi are. You WERE busy listening to SATA telling you not to vacate that site to pave way for a modern mkt. These are the consequences of stubbornness. You don’t even pay mkt levy to the council instead you opt to pay to ZANAMA and PF. Fires are inevitable given the prevailing situation. Those stands and stalls have become “popular bars”. FIRES!! Eko yaba insurance yatuntemba. You make a lot of money.
The modern is the one which is waiting mr banda
MR banda please open NAKANDALI MARKET. we are tired of chisokone
mumashasha.
At least the affected with receive soft loans!! How much is that?
We have now come to call the Chisokone fires an annual event, and plans are underway to insribe CHISOKONE FIRES in our calender as an national annual event.preps are at an advanced stage
TOO BAD .BUT WHY SAY FIRE DESTROYS GOODS AT CHISOKONE MARKET IF IT ISNT PART OF THE MARKET THAT IS AFFECTED
Tona, the people at Chisokone have always refused to have a concrete structure built. Check history. Fire after fire!
What loans,I dont beliveit.
you pipo are becomin soft.
Is it old age catching up with you?
There is something wrong at Chisokone Market. Its the only market in Africa if not thw whole world which has been gutted more than 5 times in a space of 5yrs. If at all these traders insure their goods then insurance fraud has done its turns and those invilved should be smiling. Look at former Soweto the place was so big but nothing like that happened. At City centre it happened once not the way its happening at Chisokene. Could the powers be conduct a thoroughly investigation before we hear that hundreds of of lives have lost due to fire at the same market. Iwe Kayombo may be ur using juju to be very rich. Anything pa market is possible.
I finally walked around Chisokone market and could not believe that I was still in one place. One can spend the whole day wondering there and not notice the passage of time. And it is a small wonder that there are never human casualties and fatalities when these fires occur as there are people who sleep in the stalls and in the shops around the market.
what is not found in this market? i would like to supply there
