PARAMOUNT Chief Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda has urged leaders in Government and the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to remain calm and rally behind the aspirations of late President Sata.

“To the people in Government and the PF, His Royal Highness wishes that they remain resolved and rally behind the desires and wishes of our late President and not preoccupy themselves with positions,” he said in a statement issued by his spokesman Criticles Mwansa yesterday.

The chief wished Acting President Dr Guy Scott God’s wisdom and guidance.

“Mwata further desires that the leadership that comes will continue the programmes that the late president started as a way of appreciating his dedication to the nation while he lived,” he said.

    • Mwata, thanks for the guidance, the trouble is that not all Zambians agree that there was ever a vision that needed to be continued by anyone. That depends on where you are, if you are PF there is a great vision to be continued, but if you are not PF chances are that you don’t see the vision like Hon Kambwili sees it. I doubt that the politicians who use this word actually understand its meaning. But for practical guidance the world has seen a few visionary leaders, on the political scene you have the likes of Mandela, Ghandi, George Washington, Martin Luther King and others. Usually visionary leaders are identified by independent analysts in historical terms, which gives the benefit of hindsight and the chance to compare leaders in a particular generation.

    • @Kadansah:

I am not sure if what Mwata Kazembe has said here pointed to anything like him being PF or not. He has all sorts of subjects i.e. who belong to almost all political parties in Zambia who may need Mwata’s guidance. To rally behind the desires and wishes of the late President does not mean that the ones who says that is being a PF member. Anyway, democracy entitles one to view things from different angles and interpret them that way – very acceptable indeed!

    • There is nothing wrong with the Mwata giving such advice. Actually it is good for the well being of our society that chiefs can be giving such advice. Obviously we have seen what has transpired in PF after the death of the cobra and such advice is timely and could have come from any well meaning Zambian regardless of their political affiliation.

  1. I guess “Mwata” means Chief. I therefore find it inaccurate to say “Chief Mwata”. The Royals from Riverpool (Luapula) can guide us

    • The Mwata is above the status of a chief. The Lunda Kingdom if we were to go by language would include Angola, Congo, Northen Zambia and some of the East African countries. Paramount chief is not even a proper title for him. Read about the Luba/Lunda Kingdom where most if not all tribal grouping in present day Zambia originated from.

  2. The Mwata Kazembe is not a paramount chief but a senior chief. Zambia has only four paramount chiefs namely Chitimukulu, Undi, Mpezeni and the Litunga. The Mwata is right by calling for calm in the nation. I really don’t see anything wrong with this.

  3. The Mwata Senior Chief Kazembe has been prompted to plead for peace because has detected the presence of a big COCKROACH within the PF that has been insulting the Late President Sata. Yet Sata accepted him at the helm of his Cabinet. We pray that PF will disinfect the environment and flush out the invasive “cockroach” who has proved to be insensitive to the national security of Zambia. God Help Us
