Government has congratulated the Zambia national football team on qualifying to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea.
This is after the team’s well deserved 1-0 win over Mozambique in Maputo last Saturday.
Chief Government Spokesperson, Joseph Katema, said the qualification of the team has put a smile on the faces of the Zambian people who have been grieving the loss of late President, Michael Sata, who died on October 28, 2014 at King Edward VII Hospital in London.
Dr Katema, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, said the victory over Mozambique at their own home ground last Saturday is testimony of the team’s patriotism, discipline and determination to bring glory to the country.
This is contained in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today.
He said Government and the people of Zambia are confident that the Zambia national football team possesses the right credentials in terms of experience, exposure and skill to replicate the 2012 performance in which Zambia emerged champions of Africa.
Dr Katema re-affirmed Government’s commitment to working with all stakeholders in ensuring the team prepares thoroughly for the final game against Cape Verde in Ndola this Wednesday as well as the AFCON finals in Equatorial Guinea.
The Chipolopolo boys qualified to the 2015 AFCON finals after defeating the Mambas of Mozambique 0-1 via a Given Singuluma-strike that silenced the noisy host fans.
Go boys and Conquer. Either Ghana or Ivory Coast will miss this edition, so you will be the big boys there, so aim for the final.
