Today’s Message:Peace with Your Enemies

12

bible

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“When a man’s ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.”
(Proverbs 16:7, ESV)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

What does it mean to please the Lord? In the book of Hebrews, it says that faith pleases God. Faith is simply believing that God is who He says He is and that He rewards those who seek after Him. The Bible also tells us that faith without works is dead.

In other words, our faith is expressed through our actions. For example, when you go to sit down in your favorite chair, you don’t stop and wonder if it’s going to hold you up. No, you have faith in that chair because you’ve sat in it hundreds of times. If you didn’t have faith that the chair would hold you, you wouldn’t sit down. Your actions are affected by your faith. In the same way, when we have faith in God, we follow His commands. We don’t wonder; we don’t wait. We just obey Him.

Today, know that you please Him when you seek Him by faith. You please Him when you read His Word. You please Him when you follow His commands. And, when you please Him, He makes even your enemies be at peace with you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, my greatest desire is to please You in all things. Fill me with Your faith as I study and obey Your Word. Help me to stay close to You always and thank You for giving me Your peace in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blades cut Mine Police to win bragging rights

4

Konkola Blades earned the Chililabombwe bragging rights after beating their town-rivals Konkola Mine Police 1-0 in the big local derby at Konkola Stadium on Saturday.

Striker Humphrey Maseneko scored a late second half goal that seperated the two Chililabombwe rivals.

Maseneko beat Konkola Mine Police keeper Ceaser Ndhlovu with a powerful header from inside the box on 70th minutes.

Blades deserved to win this FAZ Super League match after dominating both halves and could have scored more than a goal.

The Beston Chambeshi coached side had Maseneko’s 59th minute goal ruled out for an infringement by Kitwe referee Alfred Zwaki.

Two minutes earlier, Mine Police striker Chanda Mushili had his powerful free kick from the edge of the box saved by William Chibale.

But it was Blades who created the first serious scoring opportunity when much-travelled striker Elson Mkandawire saw his shot saved by Ndhlovu after 13 minutes.

Nkana stun defenceless Warriors

Nkana eclipsed archrivals Power Dynamos today after a resounding 5-0 home win over Kabwe Warriors at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

The result left the current league leaders Power blushing after rallying to force a 1-1 away draw at Stylish Roan United in Luanshya.

Nkana did not spare struggling Warriors thanks to an inspired performance by Evans kangwa.

Kangwa scored one goal but played a huge role in Nkana’s two other goals on their way to finally picking up their first league win of the 2014 season.

The Zambia striker put Nkana ahead in the 5th minute when he headed in the opening goal.

Reynold Kampamba danced his way past Warriors defence in the 26th minute to make it 2-0.

Kampamba struck again in the 32nd minute this time finishing off a rebound after Kennedy Phiri parried Kangwa’s shot.

Two minutes after the break, Kangwa’s shot hit the post only to land at Kelvin Mubanga’s feet who made no mistake for goal number four.

Warriors then succumbed under pressure for the final goal when defender Panji Sikanyika turned the ball into his own net on the near post after failing to deal with Kampamba attempt on goal.

The win was Nkana’s first competitive victory in seven successive games since March 8 when they beat KCCA of Uganda 2-1 in a 2014 CAF Champions League first round game in Kampala.

Since then, Nkana have produced five scoreless draws, one 1-1 result and a 5-0 defeat away to Zamalek in the Champions League.

Meanwhile in Luanshya, Arthur Kasoloki put Roan ahead into the 20th minute against Power Dynamos.

Power snatched a late equaliser through Richard Kasonde to see them maintain their three point lead at the summit of the 2014 FAZ Super Division table.

Zesco too drew after squandering a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 away at Red Arrows.

Cletus Chota put Zesco ahead in the 45th minute but Stanley Nshimbi stole the three points from Zesco with an 85th minute equaliser.

Grand Coalition Not Interested In Wasted Dialogue-Chipenzi.

3

The Grand Coalition has described the April 30th constitution summit as wasted dialogue as the big question concerning the date for releasing the draft constitution still remains unanswered.

Speaking in an interview Grand Coalition spokesperson McDonald Chipenzi noted that nothing new come out from the indaba apart from government giving its position on the issue.

Mr Chipenzi wondered what kind of dialogue meeting is one sided were the other part gives its position and answers questions without any debate taking place.

“We must assure the Zambians that we are for constructive dialogue, productive dialogue and not wasted dialogue.”

He further said a dialogue meeting should have some resolutions which did not come out during the summit.

He also noted that the indaba would have been more constructive and productive if the document was in public domain as the dialogue would have been on clauses that some people are not comfortable with as opposed to a dialogue that did not produce anything.

“If we had the document right now I can assure you that the dialogue that would have been exhibited would have been more constructive because we would have been talking about articles of contention, we would have been talking about clauses that unsettle certain individuals and not now what are we talking about?” Mr Chipenzi said.

He further said,”there is no dialogue that is one sided were one side ask questions and the other answers.
Government did not make any commitments so nothing has changed and the coalition won’t change its planned activities.”

He added that the summit failed to resolve the most important thing, the date for the release of the draft constitution.

Mr Chipenzi however said the Coalition welcomes all efforts meant to resolve the constitution impasse.

SACCORD organized a constitution summit on 30th April 2014 to find ways of resolving the constitution impasse.

A By Elections in Kasama is unnecessary and should be rejected-Lusambo

A BY ELECTIONS IN KASAMA IS UNNECESSARY AND SHOULD BE REJECTED

The recent call by Justice Minister and PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba for party supporters in Kasama to prepare for a by election cannot pass without a comment.
As MMD youths, we find it appalling that Mr Kabimba, a State Counsel could find it reasonable to issue statements about a matter which is court.

The fate of Kasama MP Geoffrey Mwamba will be decided by the courts of law and Mr Kabimba is fully aware of that.

By urging his party to prepare for a by election signals that the PF is privy to the outcome of the court process which will find to be prejudicial and even contemptuous.

The behaviour of the Justice Minister who is appointed to protect and defend the arms of justice is shocking.

We do understand that as Secretary General of the PF, Mr Kabimba’s performance is judged by the number of by elections he occasions. We are also fully aware that Mr Kabimba desperately wants to wipe out Mr Mwamba’s presence in the PF in order to entrench his position in the PF and position himself for the presidency of the PF.

As much as we would like to restrain ourselves from commenting on PF internal politics, the case of Kasama is even more curious because it speaks to the core of the need to preserve democracy which was hard won.

As MMD youths, we will not sit and watch political misfits like Mr Kabimba tear down our democracy to serve their selfish and narrow interests.

We call upon all Zambians especially the youths to reject this devilish type of politics that Mr Kabimba has introduced. By elections as much as they are constitutionally provided for a conducted a great tax payer expense. We should therefore restrict them to natural causes such as death.

Our fiscal position as a country today is in bad shape and occasioning a by election which is totally unwarranted is not in the best interest of the country and our democracy.

Mr Mwamba has clearly stated his desire to remain a Member of Parliament for Kasama Central under the PF until 2016. We therefore find it disheartening that Mr Kabimba still wants to push for a by election in Kasama.

The residents of Kasama should equally join us in rejecting this pending by election. Refuse to be used to plunder national resources which could go into improvements into the health and education infrastructure.

We also wish to remind Mr Kabimba that Zambians gave the PF a mandate to improve their lives and not to cause perpetual by elections. Zambians are not interested in all year electioneering. They are sick and tired of hearing election promises which cannot be fulfilled. Zambians want cheaper mealie meal, Zambians want cheaper transport costs, Zambians want a stable foreign exchange and Zambians want a President who is clear about the national vision.
Zambians do not want by elections.

Chilumba: Power will bounce back at Roan

1

Tennant Chilumba is certain Power Dynamos can bounce back today and beat Roan united.

The FAZ Super Division leaders travel to Kafubu Stadium in Luanshya a week after losing their one hundred per cent record with a scoreless draw away at second placed Zesco United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

“We will bounce back I think it is not a tricky game, we know Roan and I think we will go and get maximum points,” Chilumba said.

Power face bottom of the table Roan who have failed to pick up a point at home and have only two points from six games played this season.

The Kitwe side on the other hand remains unbeaten from their opening six games this season with 16 points and three points ahead of Zesco who have a game in hand.

UPND leader is never factual with his statements-Kabimba

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba arriving at Protea Arcades for the Indaba

JUSTICE Minister, Wynter Kabimba has charged that opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema is pushing his political ambitions using the Constitution making process.

Mr Kabimba said in reaction to Mr Hichilema’s claims yesterday that President Michael Sata had set up a team to manipulate the Constitution making process.

Mr Kabimba, who also Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General said yesterday that Mr Hichilema’s statements were misplaced and that he lacked facts to back his claims.

“The UPND leader is never factual with his statements and he should not use the Constitution to push his political agenda. If he had any concerns about the Constitution, why did he shun the Constitution indaba,” Mr Kabimba said.

He reiterated that Government’s stance on the Constitution was clear as it wanted to ensure there was consensus by subjecting the process to public scrutiny before the document was adopted.

Mr Kabimba during the Constitution meeting on Wednesday this week said Government would only release the draft Constitution after Cabinet approval.

He said the draft document was at his ministry and that the process was at post drafting stage which involved the release of the document as well as the mode of enactment.

The opposition leader said during a press conference in Lusaka that the PF administration was working to doctor the Constitution by dissolving the technical committee that was drafting the document.

“My dear friends on April 14, 2014 President Sata wrote a letter to the chairperson of technical committee that was drafting the Constitution indicating that he dissolved the committee. The PF is playing tactics and in the end change important clauses in the Constitution.

“The following day the Chairperson of the committee wrote to committee members to inform them about that they had been dissolved in secrecy and yet when coming up with this they had made it public,” Mr Hichilema said.

He said the opposition and stakeholders demanded the release of the draft Constitution as it belonged to Zambians and pledged to continue pressing for the release of the document.

Meanwhile, Mr Hichilema has said the Public Order Act curtailed media freedoms and urged Government to accelerate the implementation of the Access to Information Bill.

Kwacha depreciation due to high growth in imports-Gondwe

Bank of Zambia Governor Michael Gondwe
Bank of Zambia Governor Michael Gondwe

The Central Bank has attributed the depreciation of the Kwacha against other international convertible currencies during the first quarter this year to a high growth in imports relative to exports coupled with falling copper prices on the global market.

Bank of Zambia (BOZ) Governor Michael Gondwe said this has also been as a result of the investor sentiments associated with the strengthening of the United States (US) Dollar.

Dr Gondwe explained that similar weakening has been observed in most emerging market economies such as Ghana, South Africa and Turkey.

The bank governor said this in Siavonga yesterday when he officially opened the 15thBoz media workshop being held at Lake Kariba Inns in Siavonga, Southern Province.

Dr Gondwe however said the Central Bank would continue to implement a market determined exchange rates and has intervened to check volatility and accumulative reserves.

On the country’s overall macroeconomic performance, Dr Gondwe said Zambiahas performed generally buoyant compared to other countries in the region and the world economy in general.

Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth was registered at 6.5 percent in 2013 from 7.3 per cent in 2012 meaning that, such growth was higher than 4.9 per cent and 3 per cent for sub Saharan Africa and the global economy in 2013 respectively.

“This growth was mainly driven by expansions in the transport, storage and communication, construction, insurance and financial institutions,” Dr Gondwe said.

Real GDP per capital has also increased from US$332 in 2000 to $655 in 2005 and $1,784 in 2013.

Dr Gondwe said more growth was required in order to have a lasting dent on high poverty levels and make growth more inclusive and equitably distributed among citizens.

He also explained that, inflation has declined from double digits of the early 2000s to single digit levels currently at 7.1 per cent in 2013 from 2012 in December 2012.

This represents a percentage point of 1.1 per cent well above the end-year target of 6 per cent.

During the first four months of 2014, Inflation rose from 7.3 per cent to 7.8 per cent in April and this was mainly attributed to seasonal inflationary pressures associated with high fuel and food prices during this time of the year as well as pass through effects of the exchange rate depreciation.

Dr Gondwe also said owing to the general decline in in the rate of inflation, interest rates were expected to come down as well.

Zambians deserve respect and recognition for the hospitality-German Ambassador

GERMAN ambassador to Zambia Bernd Finke says Zambians deserve respect and recognition for the hospitality and humanity with which they have welcomed and protected people in need.

Ambassador Finke said because of this, Zambia can serve as a model when it comes to hosting and reintegrating refugees.

Mr Finke said this in Lusaka on Wednesday when he attended the official launch of the strategic framework for the local integration of former refugees in Zambia.

“For many decades, Zambia has been a safe haven for hundreds and thousands of refugees from its conflict ridden neighbouring countries.

The Zambian people deserve our deep respect and recognition for the hospitality and humanity with which they have welcomed and protected people in need,” Mr Finke said.

He added: “Today, we again pay tribute to the Zambians for their generous reintegration programmes and for their offer to provide former refugees with a new home in Zambia.”

Mr Finke also praised the leadership and staff of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Zambia.

“Thank you for your tireless efforts and dedication for the people entrusted to your care,” he told the UNHCR.

Mr Finke, who visited refugee camps in Mayukwayukwa and Meheba in December 2013, said: “Zambia can indeed serve as a model for all of us when it comes to hosting and reintegrating refugees.”

MMD Concerned about Zambia’s diplomatic conduct with SADC and International Community

STATEMENT BY THE MOVEMENT FOR MULTI PARTY DEMOCRACY (MMD) ON ZAMBIA’S RELATIONS WITH SADC AND THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.

The MMD wishes to convey its continued concern on the conduct of Zambia’s diplomatic relations with the Southern African Development Community (SADC ) and the international community in general, despite assurances by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Kalaba. We continue to witness a lethargic approach to the conduct of Zambia’s relations with the international community. In this respect, we feel the country should not take for granted its contribution to the liberation struggles in the Southern Region. We wish to underscore to the PF government that the practice of diplomacy is dynamic in nature.

Zambia is part of the International community and as such, there is a tradition in which countries are expected to conduct affairs with other countries. Interaction, including exchange visits at the highest level is one way in which countries consolidate their relationships both at the bilateral and multilateral level.

We are, therefore, appalled that the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs who is our chief diplomat can express satisfaction at the apparent lack of exchange visits and interaction at the Presidential level. We wish to agree with the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Kabinga Pande who recently expressed concern at the continued lack of exchange visits at the Presidential level which is evidence that Zambia is slowly becoming increasingly isolated in the SADC region and beyond. Further the statement attributed to the Minister in one of the daily newspapers where he states that ” it was not the pre-occupation of the Patriotic Front (PF) government to worry itself about foreign Heads of States not visiting Zambia because Presidents had tight schedules and could not be touring other people’s countries unless there was a regional meeting that would need them to assemble in one place at a particular time” is worrying because it has been issued at a time when most countries are actively building relations through regular interaction as a way of consolidating friendships and mutual cooperation. We urge the Minister not to be simplistic in his approach to serious foreign policy matters that require active attention by the government.

The success of any government in its diplomatic conduct is measured by its friendship and amicable interaction to garner support and promote its national interests. The MMD wishes to remind the PF government that the dynamic developments in the world are constantly shifting grounds of even the most solid relationships hence the need to renew friendships regularly. It is naive for the PF government to believe that the old friendships cultivated by different administrations and leaderships need not be rejuvinated. We wish to therefore, appeal to the PF government to take advice seriously and begin to consolidate the relations that were painstakingly built over the years by different administrations.

In this regard, we wish to implore the government through the ministry of Foreign Affairs to give clear government policy on issues bordering on the enhancement of Zambia ‘s relations within the region and beyond.

FODEP Embarks On Capacity Building To truck CDF Utilization in Eastern, Northern and Muchinga provinces

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) says it has embarked on community stakeholders’ capacity building programmes in Eastern, Northern and Muchinga provinces on how to track and monitor the management and utilization of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in a bid to promote accountability and transparency in the management of public resources in the country.

FODEP Executive Director McDonald Chipenzi said the programme is meant to compliment government’s efforts in ensuring that CDF funds are prudently utilized and that the public benefits from the funds.

Mr Chipenzi explains that the programme is in response to concerns of limited accountability and transparency in the management of public resources in most councils which has led to poor service delivery.

“Under the project called “Enhancing public accountability and citizen participation in resource tracking at community level funded by the Humanist Institute for Cooperation with Developing Countries (HIVOS) through PANOS Southern Africa, FODEP is complimenting government effort in ensuring that constituency development fund (CDF) is prudently utilized to the benefit of all Zambians.”

“This is in response to concerns of limited accountability and transparency in the management of public resources in most councils leading to poor service delivery to citizens and later on government gets the biggest blame.”

Mr Chipenzi further commends stakeholders for highlighting cases of abuse and misapplication of funds meant for community development at local level in the country.

” We would like to commend the Anti-Corruption Corruption, the media, the government and the Auditor General’s Office for taking a bold step in highlighting abuses and misapplication of this important fund meant to encourage micro projects and community development at local level in Zambia.

“The keen interest taken by the above institutions in the management and utilization of the CDF and for bringing the culprits to book regardless of their status in society or government is highly commendable and encouraging.”

Meanwhile Mr Chipenzi said his organisation is training stakeholders so as to quip them with skills and tools to demand accountability and transparency from relevant authority in the management and use of the CDF in the projects sites.

“It is for this reason that FODEP embarked on the training of journalists, councilors, NGOs and other community members to equip them with skills and tools to demand accountability and transparency from relevant authority in the management and use of the CDF in the projects sites. FODEP will be setting up task forces in the entire project sites to report any misuse of CDF to relevant authority.”

This is contained in a statement released by FODEP executive director McDonald Chipenzi.

Government says it will not tolerate abuse of workers by some companies in Solwezi districts.

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba issued the warning yesterday when he addressed hundreds of workers who turned out for the Labour Day celebrations.

Mr Kalaba said government is concerned with the behaviour of some company owners in Solwezi who are abusing workers and involved in human trafficking and forced labour.

The minister warned that government will not tolerate this kind of behaviour and will ensure that the culprits are brought to book in accordance with the law.
He said any unfair labour practices are detrimental to the promotion of decent work.

He has since directed all employers to adhere to labour laws before government visits them.

And Education Deputy Minister David Mabumba condemned political leaders who were calling on workers to boycott this year’s labour day celebrations.

Mr Mabumba also urged nurses who were dismissed from work to take advantage of the amnesty by government and re-apply for their jobs so that they can be re-engaged.
