“Now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
(1 Corinthians 13:13, NIV)
TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria
Spiritual maturity isn’t measured by how long you’ve been a Christian, how much you know, or how often you go to church. Spiritual maturity is measured by the way you treat other people. It’s measured by the love you allow to operate through you. First Corinthians 13 tells us about the characteristics of love. One characteristic is that it is not rude. That means, when we are walking in love, we treat other people with courtesy and respect. Are you courteous to other people? Are you kind to the person at the checkout counter that may be moving too slowly for you? Are you gentle when you are driving down the highway and someone cuts you off? Are you patient with your family and coworkers? These are all ways we show love.
Scripture also tells us that love is patient. It is kind. It does not envy; it is not proud. It is not rude. Love is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love never fails. Notice that these characteristics don’t have anything to do with feelings. That’s because love is a choice. You can choose to walk in love toward people even when you don’t feel like it. Today, make the choice to do what is right. Choose today to show kindness and be courteous to others. Look for ways to cultivate the greatest thing in your life — love! As you do, you’ll move forward into the life of blessing God has in store for you!
A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me so that I can show love to others. Teach me to be patient and kind and treat others the way You always treat me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

CHIEFS and Traditional Affairs Minister Inonge Wina (L)
Gender and Child Development minister Ionone Wina has strongly condemned the use of abusive and degrading language on women by political leaders.
Ms. Wina who quoted to a story in the post newspaper dated September 13, 2012, where Mr. Hakainde Hichilema described Ms. Edith Nawakwi as a little girl who has run out of what to cook in the kitchen and goes to look for food at the market.
She said such utterances makes sad reading are based on prejudice adding that such remarks can only come from a person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles or identities that are different from his or her own.
Ms. Nawakwi said it is unacceptable for leaders to perpetuate the marginalisation of women by insinuating that women are only meant for the kitchen through exhibiting negative perceptions by alluding to women’s sexuality.
She further described Mr. Hichilemas’ statement as degrading and disrespectful to mother Zambia adding that such utterance only imply that woman are mere possessions o men who are not fit for governance and leadership position in the development of their country.
She said sexuality of women should be treated with respect and the importance that it deserved as reproductive roles of women are cardinal to reproduction and sustenance of the nation and human kind.
Ms. Wina has however urged political leaders to refrain from using abusive language but also exhibit exemplary behaviour at all times towards one another.
And just yesterday Tourism and Arts Minister Silvia Masebo has said the politics of hatred that United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema is playing will not help him to advance his political career.
Ms Masebo said the hate speech riddled with bitterness and inconceivable hatred is not helping Mr Hichilema and that even the people who surround him like his special advisor have nothing to help matters.
“I feel sorry for my brother HH. His hate speech and tribal talk shall never get him into State House, never. With people around him like William Banda as an advisor what do you expect? Disaster!” she said.
She said the UPND president should not use tribe as a yardstick to get into State House as if the Zambian presidency is shared on a rotational basis between tribes adding that Mr Hichilema is actually decampaigning himself with his routine outbursts.
Ms Masebo said there are so many issues an opposition political party leader can raise as a way of providing checks and balances to Government but that personalizing politics to the extent of insulting fellow leaders is unacceptable.
She particularly took great exception to the attacks Mr Hichilema directed at Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi describing it as an act of cowardice aimed intimidating a more seasoned politician than him.
“Edith Nawakwi is a strong politician. The fact that she has not been president of Zambia doesn’t take anything away from her. You can see the bitterness and hatred in Mr Hichilema’s speech. I personally have no regard for men who attack and insult women like that,” she said.
The Tourism and Arts minister said because of not practicing issue-based politics, Mr Hichilema cannot even beat National Restoration Party (NAREP) president Elias Chipimo Jnr despite the latter being relatively new in the political arena.
Mr Hichilema was yesterday quoted as having attacked Ms Nawakwi whom he described as a hired gun while also having a go at former president Dr Kenneth Kaunda as well as Post managing director Fred M’membe.
Schemes by some unnamed to have Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba ousted as PF Secretary General has been exposed by PF Lusaka Province Chairman Geoffrey Chuumbwe.
The moves to remove Mr. Kabimba as the party’s Chief Executive Officer are believed to be part of a wider silent presidential succession battle raging in the PF.
At a news briefing today, Mr. Chuumbwe castigated those pushing Mr. Kabimba out of the party.
“We know them, they are busy organizing dark corner meetings at Evelyn Hone College and UNZA inciting students to protest against Mr. Kabimba’s dual roles,” Mr. Chuumbwe said.
He said such moves will not be entertained by the party in Lusaka Province because Mr. Kabimba has demonstrated that he is highly competent and could hold both positions.
“If they are scared of Wynter, they should just come out in the open and say so unlike destabilizing the party. We will not accept such behavior,” Mr. Chuumbwe said.
He also took a swipe at the UPND senior leadership for allegedly insulting President Michael Sata.
“As PF members, we should all take it upon ourselves to protect the name and integrity of our President. We cannot allow our President to be insulted by the UPND and the MMD. We have to defend our President.”
He warned that the UPND will be forced to vacate its Lagos Road Headquarters in Rhodespark by PF youths if its leaders continue to insult President Sata.
“Tabakekalepo palya (they will not stay there) if they continue insulting our beloved President. This is just a friendly warning,” Mr. Chuumbwe said.
Meanwhile, the ruling Patriotic Front PF in Luapula Province says it is confident that the newly appointed Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba will deliver in his new position.
The provincial leadership says the appointment of Mr Kabimba has come at a right when the country is faced with Corruption, delay in the disposal of court cases and says it is confident that the new justice minister will address these issues.
ZANIS reports the provincial Publicity Secretary Gavashi Chikoko to have made the observations in a statement in Mansa , today.
Mr. Chikoko says the Patriotic Front leadership in the province is delighted with the president appointment of Mr Kabimba.
Mr Chikoko has however said the PF leadership in the province is not happy with manner in which the opposition is conducting itself towards the government.
He says the PF needs a credible opposition that will make it restore the distorted economy left by the MMD.
Zanaco palying Division One North leaders and promotion favourites Lime. ZANACO won 8-7 after a penalty shoot out
Defending champions Power Dynamos on Saturday cut and thrashed their way to the Barclays Cup semifinals.
This is after beating Kabwe Warriors 1-0 in entertaining contest at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
However, the day was almost blighted when a section of spectator stand behind Nkoloma’s western goal area collapsed under nearly 30 fans.
Miraculously, only one person was injured when the steel stand was completely flattened during Zanaco and Lime Hotspurs post-match penalty-shootout in the earlier kickoff of the Barclays Cup quarterfinal doubleheader at Nkoloma.
Meanwhile, Warriors matched Power especially in the first half and almost took the lead against the latter on 10 minutes but Roderick Kabwe’s shot hit the woodwork.
Graven Chitalu was Power’s main culprit and missed at least two sitters in the 34th and 64th before making way for Francis Kanemwa in the 70th minute.
Warriors fizzled after the break thanks mostly after they were reduced to 10 men late in the first half.
This is after Musonda Mweuke received his second booking in the 44th minute with both sides level at 0-0 going into halftime.
The match roared back to life in the final quarter of the second half after Warriors coach Happy Sichikolo brought on veterans January Zyambo and Siloni Jere revived the Railwaymens push of a semifinal place.
However, Jere shot wide when it looked easier to score after he was setup by Zyambo with 10 minutes remaining on the clock.
Meanwhile, Simon Bwalya made no mistake on the opposite end for Power six minutes later to score the winning goal.
Bwalya finished off a rebound after Kelvin Musonda had parried Kennedy Mudenda’s initial shot.
Power head into the October 27 semifinals bracing for a draw against either, Napsa Stars, Zesco United or Zanaco.
Zanaco on the other hand secured their semifinal passage via 10 penalties, two of them alone within the 90 minutes, when they forced a penalty shootout after the match had ended 2-2.
Zanaco eventually won the game 8-7 on post-match penalties over Division One North leaders and promotion favourites Lime.
Record three time Barclays Cup winners Zesco United and debutants Napsa Stars reached the semi finals of this year’s competition after winning their respective quarterfinal matches at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday.
In the early kickoff, Napsa left it late to beat Red Arrows 1-0 thanks to an 83rd minute goal from Martin Tembo.
Arrows seemed to be the better side of the two and dominated play in both halves but poor finishing cost them a place in the last four with top striker Lubinda Mundia being the main culprit.
Meanwhile, controversial striker Lottie Phiri begun his second spell at Zesco in grand-style with a 43rd minute lone goal to help the Ndola side to beat a determined Konkola Blades 1-0 in the second quarter final match at Arthur Davies.
Zesco scored against the run of play after Blades had dominated the opening 40 minutes punctuated with neat inter-change of passes.
The Barclays Cup semi finals takes place on October 27 while the final is set for Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on November 17.
FILE: Zambian football fans stranded at the airport in Gabon because the Zambian protocol officers failed to arrange a smooth itinerary
Zambia Voluntary Soccer Fans Association (ZAVOSOFA) Patron Peter Makembo says his association has organized a charter plane for the Zambia- Uganda game in Kampala at a cheaper rate.
ZANIS sports reports the ZAVOSOFA patron saying in an interview that the price for the charter flight to Kampala now stands at K3 million from the previously announced K4 million.
Makembo advised soccer fans in the country to go and make payments directly at the Kenya Airways office were the number of fans will be monitored thereafter.
He however explained that for those who may wish to spend a night after the game will have to pay K5 million as it will cater for breakfast, bedding, transport from the Airport when they arrive to the stadium and match entry.
And Makembo was confident that Chipolopolo will carry the day in Uganda in an away game.
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association (CSFA) has on the other hand organized a plane to ferry fans going at a cost of K7.5 million and is expected to depart on the very same day.
CSFA disclosed that the same amount will cover for a replica Chipolopolo jersey, Chipolopolo golf T-shirt, transport services when in Uganda and a match ticket.
He also expressed optimism that Chipolopolo were going thereto bring glory to mother Zambia.
Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda has said that Government is not persecuting the owners of Railway System of Zambia (RSZ). Commenting on the interception of RSZ chief executive officer, Benjamin Even and his Managing Director, Pelossor Yair, Mr Chikwanda said there was no persecution of the two as alleged by some opposition leaders.
He advised opposition leaders not to glorify foreign company owners even when they had failed to perform to expectations as enshrined in agreements.
“There is no persecution, we want them to stay, a little longer for accountability and smooth handover. Why should they want to run away? In mature countries, in matters like this, Government and the opposition usually work together because the issue is of national interest.
But in the case of our opposition, who’s interests are they serving? That is why they will continue to be in the opposition. They want to play to foreign gallery when it doesn’t even work for them. How can they lead people against their interest?” Mr Chikwanda said.
And Home Affairs deputy minister in-charge of Immigration, Stephen Kampyongo the interception of Mr Even and Mr Yair was meant to have the two officials help with a smooth and transparent handover of the railway assets.
Mr Kampyongo said there was nothing sinister with the interception of the two who wanted to exit the country at Lusaka’s Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Thursday.
Alert Immigration officers intercepted Mr Even and Mr Yair at the airport when they tried to leave for South Africa.
The two were scheduled to leave the country on an early morning flight to Johannesburg through the airport when they were blocked.
“There is nothing sinister about intercepting them. What we want, is to ensure that the two hand over RSZ assets to Government in a smooth and transparent way,” he said in an interview yesterday.
He said Government would promote transparency in the manner RSZ would be handled and that it wanted Mr Even and Mr Yair to be around as Government took over operations.
“We want to ensure there is a proper hand-over of all assets so that there exit is also smooth. We don’t to see a situation where they go while certain issues remain pending because it will be difficult to call them,” he said.
He appealed to Mr Even and Mr Yair to remain patient and cooperate with Government.
On Thursday, Home Affairs Permanent Secretary, Maxwell Nkole said the duo was found with RSZ employment permits which have since been withdrawn and their passports withheld.
Mr Nkole said it was important that a full audit of all assets was thoroughly undertaken with the assistance of the former management.
The Zambia Association of Musicians says it is upset that renowned South African band Freshly ground was allowed to perform in Zambia Wednesday evening without a permit.
Freshly ground performed during the launch of Diamonds Casino in Lusaka on Kafue Road.
Association Chairman Maiko Zulu said in an interview that the promoters of the concert should be taken to task by the National Arts Council for illegally bringing foreign artistes.
Zulu said procedure requires that all foreign artistes coming to perform in Zambia should obtain clearance from NAC.
He said investigations by the Zambia Association of Musicians indicate that the South African band was not cleared by NAC.
Zulu said local promoters should value Zambian musicians and stop the trend of rushing to bring in foreign artistes to perform at events that local musicians could handle.
MMD Chisamba Member of Parliament Moses Muteteka (in glasses)
CHISAMBA member of Parliament Moses Muteteka has paid up K498 million he owed the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC).
This is according to a statement issued by CEEC acting director general Daniel Sichombo in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Sichomba said Mr Muteteka was granted a loan amounting to K320 million and he was taken to court after failing to comply with the loan facility agreement.
“Mr Muteteka was availed a loan facility by the commission in the sum of K320 million at an interest rate of 12 percent per annum and that the matter ended up in court, as the facility remained unamortised, contrary to the loan contract and the personal guarantees by the directors,” he said.
He said Mr Muteteka has paid the sum owed to the commission in full.
“We wish to clarify, however, that the full sum owed to the commission under the transaction has since been paid,” he said.
According to court records, CEEC had sued Mr Muteteka and Naomi Muteteka as directors of Omega Transport and Maintenance Limited for failing to comply with the loan facility repayment schedule.
The duo had applied for a loan to buy a tractor and accessories, which was approved by CEEC on May 12 this year.
MMD deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu has advised the United Party for National Development (UPND) to stop claiming that it is more popular in Mufumbwe than the former ruling party.
Mr Nyangu said the MMD is more popular than any other political party that will consider contesting the Mufumbwe parliamentary seat.
The seat fell vacant last week after then MMD member of Parliament Steven Masumba resigned from the opposition party to join the Patriotic Front (PF).
This followed Mr Masumba’s expulsion from the MMD for allegedly accepting to serve in the PF government as Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing.
Mr Nyangu was reacting to a statement by UPND chairperson for energy Garry Nkombo, who was quoted in some sections of the media as having said the party will field a candidate in the Mufumbwe parliamentary by-election set for November 8 because the MMD allegedly stole its seat.
But Mr Nyangu said in an interview in Lusaka on Thursday that it is wrong for UPND to claim that it is more popular in Mufumbwe than other political parties which will contest the seat because it only won the seat once in 2010.
He said the MMD has been winning the Mufumbwe seat since 1991 and that the seat only went to UPND in April 2010 when Mulondwe Muzungu lost to Elliot Kamondo.
“It is not correct to say it has been their seat. The UPND only won the seat once when Mr Kamondo was elected and whose seat was nullified because of the violence which characterised the by-election.
“The UPND only beat the MMD by 200 votes, so it is wrong for them to start claiming that the party is popular in Mufumbwe,” Mr Nyangu said.
He, however, said the MMD will soon have a meeting with UPND to decide which party will field a candidate the Mufumbwe by-election.
Mr Nyangu said the two parties have not yet decided on the matter and that the official position will be made public after the meeting.
GOVERNMENT and millers have agreed to reduce the price of mealie-meal by an average of K2,000 per 25 kilogramme bag of both breakfast and roller meal.
Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Emmanuel Chenda confirmed the development in a statement after a consultative meeting with millers in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Chenda said the move taken by government is aimed at stabilising prices of mealie-meal.
“Following the recent increase in mealie-meal prices, which have been precipitated by the increased demand for Zambian maize by neighbouring countries, government decided to engage the milling industry and come up with a solution,” he said.
And Mr Chenda has announced the lifting of the ban on the export of maize and wheat bran, which is with immediate effect.
The minister said this is to ensure that millers continue to offer stable mealie-meal prices.
Mr Chenda said the milling industry will be allowed to export limited quantities of surplus bran to various countries in the region.
“The higher regional maize bran prices will offset the recent increase in mealie-meal prices,” he said.
The minister said government will also ensure that the domestic sale of maize and wheat bran continues to satisfy the local demand.
Mr Chenda said government is committed to ensuring that commodity prices remain stable despite the general increase in global and regional maize prices.
He also said the country has sufficient stocks of maize to ensure national food security.
“Government, through the Food Reserve Agency, is continuing with the maize purchase programme,” Mr Chenda said.
Some members of MISA Zambia have threatened to impeach the National Governing Council (NGC), at this month’s Annual General Meeting if the institution fails to respond to allegations of financial mismanagement at the Secretariat.
Spokesperson for concerned members and former MISA board member Talent Ng’andwe said the members cannot sit idle while issues of financial irregularities keep on recurring year after year at the Institution.
Mr. Ng’andwe said it is disappointing that the leadership of MISA Zambia is running away from explaining the various accusations being raised by some sections of the society including its own membership.
He said it is shocking that MISA Vice Chairperson Mr Nalumino Nalumino is trivializing concerns about accountability and political involvements of some of its senior staff and board members.
Mr. Ng’andwe said MISA Zambia should tell the nation whether or not it is true that the organization has no cases of unretired imprest as alleged, and whether or not they have been obeying the law by complying with statutory requirements including the remitting of returns at Zambia Revenue Authority and registrar of societies.
He said as members of MISA Zambia, they know that MISA Zambia has failed to attract new donors because of these concerns.
Mr. Ng’andwe revealed that MISA Zambia’s recent application for institutional funding from the Zambia Governance Fund was rejected because of such concerns including lack of adherence to systems and persistent serious audit queries.
He said because of this, MISA Zambia is only able to attract project funding of very small amounts adding that it is only Irish Aid who have been lenient with MISA’s mismanagement to this date.
Mr. Ng’andwe added that MISA Zambia must also explain why they have reduced the funding to community radio stations and other media houses when these are the intended beneficiaries of the funds the organization receive from the donors.

Zambia’s external debt has swelled to over USD 2 billion following Zambia’s hugely successful Eurobond issue.
Ministry of Finance Acting Director for Investments and Debt Management Fortune Kamusaki told Journalists in Lusaka that the USD 750 million bond forms part of the already existing USD 1.5 billion external debt.
Dr. Kamusaki explained that the external debt is mainly made up of concessional and non-concessional loans.
He however assured that Zambia’s foreign debt stock remains highly sustainable obtained a huge debt relief under HIPC.
Dr. Kamusaki noted that the Zambian government has been prudent in its borrowing and there is no risk that the country could slip back into a debt trap.
Dr. Kamusaki said the foreign debt stock has been building up steadily from the time the country got debt relief under HIPC .
