East PF calls for resignation of Chairperson
The opposition Patriotic Front (PF) in Chipata Central Constituency in Eastern Province has called on its Provincial chairperson Lucas Phiri to immediately step down accusing him of dividing the party.
The Constituency Executive Committee said that the PF leader has no popularity within the party because of dictatorial and divisive leadership causing divisions among party members.
Constituency Secretary William Phiri told ZANIS in Chipata that PF in Chipata Central resolved at a meeting held on 16th April, to call on their Provincial leader to step down after all efforts to dialogue over his failure to lead the party failed.
He said the party was disappointed with the behaviour of Mr Phiri who he said had grown big headed and sidelined all duly elected party leaders in preference for people that supported all his deeds even when they were not in the interest of the PF.
“He has failed to maintain peace within the executive as he has been sidelining some members of the executive,” Mr Phiri charged.
The Party’s Constituency Secretary said the PF provincial chairperson had brought anarchy to the leadership and was intolerant of any kind of criticism
aimed at improving the party in Eastern Province.
He accused Mr Phiri of intimidating and humiliating party members who criticised him saying the PF Provincial Chairperson labelled them as rebels belonging to the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).
The Constituency Secretary also alleged that Mr Phiri had been holding public rallies in wards and distributing party materials without prior arrangements with the constituency executive.
He also attributed the party’s loss of the Chiparamba Local Government by-election seat to Mr Phiri’s unprofessional leadership saying the Chairperson wanted to do everything without engaging other PF officials.
“Mr Phiri should understand that the party needs a mature leader who can accept criticism and accommodate all members of the party in order to move the PF forward,” he said.

Heritage party president Godrey Miyanda has called for live presidential debates as the country goes to the polls.
Brig. General Godfrey Miyanda says that presidents should be given a platform to sell their manifestos.
Speaking last evening on Monday Nite Live, Gen. Miyanda said that live debates will reduce political violence in the country.
He said that live debates will also allow voters to cast voter based on merit as candidates explain their plan for Zambia.
Gen. Miyanda has further castigated non-issue based politics that do not add value to the Zambian people.
Heritage party president Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda also stated that the debate whether Zambia should maintain its Christian nation status is irrelevant.
Gen. Miyanda said that the debate has come rather late stating that all the concerns raised, were earlier discussed.
He said that all the augments being brought were addressed before Zambia was declared a Christian nation by Dr. Chiluba’s government.

State releases 21 Mongu prisoners on parole
A total number of 21 inmates from Mongu central prisons in Western Province were yesterday released on parole.
Mongu Central Prisons Officer In-Charge Superintendent Moses Chipokolo Malaishya disclosed the development to ZANIS in Mongu.
Superintendent Malaishya said Government has put up a number of deliberate conditions to help decongest prisons across the country.
He urged inmates who were still in prisons to continue exhibiting good behaviour and abide by parole conditions.
The Officer In-Charge appealed to the general public to accept the parolees who have been released in society.
Mr Malaishya said the general public had an important role in the lives of parolees once released from prison.
He further appealed to parents and relatives of the released persons to show love and support in order to help them adapt into society.
The Prisons Services is currently releasing inmates from prisons across the country on parole condition.
Parole is the supervised release of a prisoner before completion of their sentence in prison.
Rotarians donates K40m worth equipment to Ronald Ross
Mufulira Rotary Club in the Copperbelt Province has donated medical equipment worth over 40 million Kwacha to Ronald Ross Hospital in the district.
The donated items include an eye autoclave Machine worth about K35 million and other items such as blood pressure machines, stethoscopes, gloves, local anesthetics and a daily steam penetration test kit among others.
Speaking during the hand over of the equipment at the hospital over the weekend, Mufulira District Rotary club immediate Past President Fred Kaoma said that the donation was aimed at supplementing tremendous efforts Government was making in improving the country’s health service delivery.
ZANIS reports that Mr Kaoma observed that the health sector was the most expensive sector to develop therefore it called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders such as the church, Non Governmental Organisations, and the business community among others.
He said the Rotary Club would continue supplementing Goverment effort in improving the welfare of Zambian people.
He further observed that no single Government could afford to adequately provide the needs of its people without support from other stakeholders.
Mr Kaoma urged Ronald Ross Hospital management to take good care of the donated items especially the autoclave machine so that they could last for a longer period.
Speaking at the same function, Ronald Ross Hospital Medical Superitendernt Makasa Sichela thanked the Rotary Club for the donation.
Dr Sichela said the eye Autoclave would help in the Trachoma elimination surgeries programme which the hospital would be running in the next five years beginning this year.
He assured the Rotarians that the donated items would be well taken care of and be used for the intended purpose.
The donation was solicited from a United Kingdom (UK) based metal businessman Walton Lipmann who trades in metals including copper.
He responded positively to the request by the Rotarians because of his appreciation of huge profits he had realised from the high quality Zambian Copper.
Mansa residents ran amok, another life lost, Police send reinforcement to restore peace and order
Residents in Kapesha and Semana villages in Mansa district, Luapula Province today run amok shooting and burning down houses belonging to local businessmen.
It took a combined team of armed Zambia Army, Zambia Police and Zambia National Services (ZNS) Officers to quell the situation around 18:00 hours on Monday.
Zambia Police Spokesperson, Ndandula Siamana also confirmed the development in a telephone interview with ZANIS in Lusaka, Monday evening saying Police Officers have since been deployed to Mansa to help calm the situation.
ZANIS reports that one local businessman who was a money lender only identified as Walty was also burnt to death in Kapesha bringing the number of those so far burnt to death over accusations of ritual killings to three.
Police clad in riot gears fought running battles with the riotous mobs in Kapesha, Semana, and Mansa Central business district.
In Mansa Central business district, the riotous mob also looted three shops belonging to a local businessman of Indian origin Ibrahim Sanaullar popularly known as Amico.

The businessman also had his house on Mansa airport road destroyed. The mob were seen hauling fridges, mattresses, blankets and assorted essentials like cooking oil,mealie meal and sugar from three shops.
A garage belonging to Irene Chilongo the owner of Tedja Lodge was also attacked by the riotous crowd who burnt one of her trucks.
Mrs. Chilongo’s residential house was also destroyed by the riotous mob. Meanwhile, another house belonging to a local businessman near Kasasa market was burnt to ashes during the riot on Monday afternoon.
The residents also barricaded Chembe Mansa and Mansa Kashikishi roads with heaps of stones and branches blocking traffick getting into town.
However,traffick was running normally on Mansa –Samfya road today. The riot started around 14:00 hours Monday and was only thwarted in the evening at 18:00 hours by a combined team of Police, Army and ZNS officers who managed to round up a few riotous people and retrieved looted goods from Amico shops.
Angry villagers in Senama area of Mansa district yesterday burnt to death two unidentified middle-aged men whom they suspected of being ritual killers.
And Zambia Police Spokesperson Ndandula Siamana said the police command has since deplored more Police Officers from Lusaka to help quell the situation. Ms Ndandula said the officers were deployed Monday afternoon to Mansa to help calm the situation.
And Inspector General of Police Francis Kabonde has warned perpetrators of violence in Mansa of arrest and would be charged for accomplice murder and damage to property.
According to a separate statement, the Spokesperson availed to ZANIS, however, Mr Kabonde said that the violence which started Sunday night had continued to be perpetrated in broad day light today (Monday) and refuted all stories of suspected ritual killings saying the police had not recorded any case of such kind.

Post Newspaper evidently campaigning for Sata- Mwanachigwala
Chief Mwanachigwala of the Tonga people in Mazabuka has refuted media reports suggesting that the people in Mazabuka district have rejected the mobile hospitals.
Chief Mwanachigwala urged the Post Newspaper against setting an agenda for the Zambian people.
He charged that it was evident that the Post was campaigning for opposition Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata.
“The official commissioning of the mobile hospitals for Southern Province is on and it is not true that we the people of Southern Province have rejected the facilities. it is common knowledge that the Post Newsaper is openly campaigning for PF leader, Mr. Sata,” he said.
Chief Mwanachingwala invited those who were peddling lies about mobile hospitals to witness the launch for themselves when President Banda will be commissioning the facilities.
In a separate interview with ZANIS, the Chief said that Mr. Banda had done a lot since assuming office in 2008 because saying his works were bearing fruit.
He said that both the Post Newspaper and the PF leader would not manage to de-camapaign President Banda because he enjoyed massive support from the Zambian people including recognition from the international community who have spoken highly of him as an individual and Zambia’s economic path respectively.
The traditional leader castigated critics of Mr Banda and his administration for peddling lies on straight forward issues concerning the country’s development.
“People who criticise President Banda are wrong and they only have got a different motive. President Banda has embraced everyone including his critics but l’m happy that he has ignored them and he is on track to developing this nation,” he said.
And President Rupiah Banda is tomorrow expected to be in Mazabuka, Southern Province where he is scheduled to commission mobile hospitals.
The launch of the mobile hospitals comes barely after two weeks when President Banda commissioned similar facilities in Chongwe district in Lusaka Province.
While in the district, Mr. Banda who is expected to arrive in the morning will among other things have a meeting with Zambia Sugar management, before meeting chiefs. The President will later have lunch with traditional leaders.
This is according to a tentative programme issued by the Mazabuka District Administration and made available to ZANIS in Mazabuka today.
At 15-00 hours, President Banda is also expected to hold a public rally at Hospital Football Ground.
On hand to receive the Head of state would be Southern Province Minister Elijah Muchima, Mazabuka, District Commissioner Tyson Hamaamba, senior Government officials and Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) party officials from both the district and the entire province.
President Banda returns to Lusaka soon after scheduled business.

Simba, Phiri Part Ways?
Patrick Phiri’s turbulent three-season stay at Tanzanian club Simba is looking like coming to an end.
Press reports in Tanzania say Phiri is unlikely to be retained after failing to retain the league title he won last season.
This is after surrendering the title in dramatic fashion to archrivals Young Africans on the final day of the season on 46 points.
“Simba are unlikely to seek the services of their Zambia coach Patrick Phiri as a replacement is being searched,” The Guardian of Tanzania reported on Monday.
“One of the former Yanga coach from Serbia is linked to Simba as negotiations are underway behind closed doors.”
Simba under Phiri this season also finished without any cup honors apart from ending the league campaign in second place on the same number of points with Young Africans.
Phiri won the Tanzanian title last year after earlier guiding them from mid-table to second place in 2009.
Phiri has never had an easy stay at Simba and last season made a reluctant return after plans to hire another Serbia coach fell through.
This was Phiri’s second stint at Simba who he guided to the 2004 in his first and brief tenure.

An unlikely club is dominating the top of the top of the Faz Division 1 South table so early into the new season.
Provisional side Luena Buffaloes from Kaoma in Western Province are enjoying a 100 per cent record after three games played in the lower league.
The army club coached by Ernest Chisanga who is in his second season as Luena coach have won all three of their opening games.
Luena enjoy a three point lead with demoted Super Division side National Assembly in second place on 6 points and a loss to their credit.
Two of Luena’s wins have been on the road after beating Nampundwe and Mazabuka United 1-0 and 2-0 respectively.
Their next game will be against Kafue Celtic in Kaoma this Easter Sunday who are struggling on the other end of the table.
In Division 1 North, Indeni of Ndola is also enjoying a 100 per cent start to the new campaign and they will be away in Kabwe to play 11th place Chindwin Sentries on Sunday.
Chindwin are coached by ex-Zambia and Mufulira Wanderers midfielder Vincent Mutale.

Another suspected ritual killer escapes lynching in Mansa
A 21-year-old man of Mansa district in Luapula Province was nearly lynched yesterday after an angry mob descended on him over accusations of being a ritual killer.
The incident happened near UB down market, when alert marketeers allegedly learnt that the victim, Fucha Machisa, was trying to snatch an innocent toddler.
Police rescued the suspect from an irate mob and took him to Mansa General Hospital where he was treated for a deep cut on his head.
However, Police had difficulties in preventing the mob at the Hospital which attempted to force itself into the institute’s premises demanding to finish off the suspected ritual killer.
The mob later demanded that the police release the suspect so that they could set him ablaze.
The mob later smashed windows to a medical doctor’s vehicle registration ALB 4216 as one of the people in the crowd shouted that the suspect was being whisked away in the same vehicle as it drove out of the hospital.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Machisa told ZANIS that he was attacked near a graveyard on his way home.
The recent attack comes barely hours after the police picked up bodies of two middle aged men who were viciously beaten and burnt to death in Senama area over similar ritual killing accusations.
And a 25- year -old woman of Musumali Village in Mansa is nursing a deep wound in Mansa General Hospital after she was stabbed in the neck by a robber who broke into her house.
In an interview with ZANIS from her hospital bed, Cynthia Mulele said a robber had broken into her house on Saturday night.
Narrating the ordeal, Mulele said while she sleeping with her three- year- old daughter she woke up at night only to realise that curtains had been removed from her windows by unknown people.
Ms Mulele said when she woke up to check on what was happening, the robber who was hiding behind the door held her at knife-point and led her outside.
She said while outside, the robber started dragging her towards an orchard of oranges adding that at this point, she realised that the robber intended to harm her but Ms Mulele wrestled with her attacker while shouting for help.
Ms Mulele said when the robber realised that people in the neighbourhood were going to be alarmed, he decided to stab her in the neck and bolted. The robber also made away with her curtains.
The victim who was struggling to speak due to pain said she was just being fed on fluids because of the wound’s depth.

NAREP claims Munali constituents wants change
National Restoration Party (NAREP) Secretary General John Phiri has alleged that people in Munali constituency wants change of representative following alleged failure of area Member of Parliament (MP) to deliver development.
Mr. Phiri has accused incumbent Munali Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament (MP) of failing to deliver development to the constituents.
He has also refuted claims by Mrs. Phiri that NAREP is sponsoring students at the University of Zambia (UNZA) to de-campaign her ahead of this years’ general elections.
Mr. Phiri told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the youths and people of Munali are not happy with the developments achieved in the area during the reign of Mrs. Phiri.
He said the people are disappointed with PF and Mrs. Phiri of failing to address the problem of roads, health posts and other needs of the community.
Mr. Phiri who has also shown interest in contesting the Munali Parliamentary seat under NAREP in this year’s elections has also
doubted the popularity of PF in the area.
He said people will vote for the capability of individuals and not for the party.
He has since advised Mrs. Phiri to appreciate the little she has done for the constituency rather than complain of her failing popularity.
Mr. Phiri has also cautioned people to scrutinise candidates who will be vying for public office in this year’s general elections.
He said people should vote for persons who can deliver and not the political party they represent.
Press reports indicate that Mrs Phiri has since accused those called for new representation in Munali as having been sponsored.

PAZA chides Mulongoti on his outburst about public media bias
The Press Association of Zambia (PAZA) has castigated former Works and Supply Minister Mike Mulongoti for attacking public media institutions.
PAZA Executive Secretary, Patson Phiri said it was unfair for a former minister who also served under the Information and Broadcasting Services Ministry to accuse the public media of being biased in their news coverage.
Mr. Phiri challenged Mr. Mulongoti to explain what major contributions he made towards improvement of operations of the public media when he served as a minister.
He said Mr. Mulongoti failed to address the plight of public media during his time and wondered why he had to wait all this time until he was fired to speak evil about the public media.
Mr. Phiri told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that Mr. Mulongoti’s remarks were only meant to please the opposition.
He said public media institutions have an obligation to highlight the many developmental projects the Government of the day was undertaking in the country.
He defended their operations saying it was through the same media that many people were now aware and appreciated Government for its works aimed at developing and uplifting their living standards.

Mr. Phiri advised the former Minister to examine whether the same private media he was now supporting was objective and ethical in their reporting.
He also advised Mr. Mulongoti to stop issuing unnecessary statements when he was aggrieved but rather seek dialogue.
Mr. Mulogoti yesterday lashed out at the three Public media particularly the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), Zambia Daily Mail and the Times of Zambia charging that they were biased in their news coverage.
Mr. Mulongoti who featured on a live Mobi Television Programme dubbed Open Forum said the public media was biased and lacked credibility.
The Former Minister who also used the same public media to attack his perceived enemies when he was in Government said news in the public media was one sided and only centered on President Rupiah Banda and his government.
He also charged that editors in the public media had lost credibility and their ethics as they were not serving the public interest but the interest of the ruling Government and President Banda.
The former minister claimed that when he was Information Minister in charge he gave out licenses to various media institutions for them to operate freely and not to be confined to covering only the Government of the day.
And when asked whether he would accept any appointment from Government if he was appointed to any portfolio, Mr. Mulongoti said there was nothing left for him to benefit from the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).
Mr. Mulongoti said he had other ambitions in which he would explore to contribute to the nation’s development.

Mazabuka Council refutes Post Newspaper mobile clinics story
Mazabuka Municipal Council in Southern Province has refuted a story in today’s Post Newspaper edition stating that the people of Mazabuka have rejected mobile clinics to be launched by President Rupiah Banda
The story in the tabloid dated 18th April states that Mazabuka residents had rejected the Mobil clinics and instead wanted a general hospital.
Refuting the claims during an establishment committee meeting held in the Council chambers today, Mazabuka Town Clerk Ekan Chingangu said they was never a time when Residents Development Committees(RDCs) in Mazabuka sat to make such a statement.
ZANIS reports that Mr Chingangu said that the Council was in full support of mobile clinics and that all the Councillors were in favour of the gesture by Government.
Mr. Chingangu said that all the Councillors in the district would welcome the president and receive the mobile clinics scheduled to be launched by President Banda tomorrow.
He said that RDCs were there to help the Council to bring development to the district and that it was not possible for the Councillors to reject the clinics which he described as development.
And reacting to the statement about roads being graded when the President was scheduled to visit Mazabuka, the Town Clerk said it was a coincidence as the local authority had just approved its Constituency Development Funds and was currently implementing various programmes including the grading of roads in the district.
And Mazabuka RDC Chairperson Amos Chombegi Munsaka refuted claims reported in the tabloid that he said that the people of Mazabuka had rejected the mobile clinics.
The Chairperson said that he was misquoted by the Reporter who followed him to church and asked him questions about the President’s visit to the district which he refused to answer.
Mr Munsaka said that he never mentioned anything about the people rejecting the mobile clinics and that the news article surprised him just as much as it did to the people of Mazabuka
He said that in fact it was a good gesture for Government to consider Mazabuka for the mobile clinics and that they would go a long way in helping the local people.

Father molesters described as immoral
Non-Governmental organisations have described
the trend of fathers molesting their biological daughters as an unforgiveable and an immoral act.
Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Executive Director Anne
Ngwira said such an act was the worst kind and should be condemned in
the strongest terms.
Mrs. Ngwira stated that the act was a sin and uncalled for behaviour which was not even animal like because animals protected their young ones and did not molest them.
In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, the Executive Director
urged mothers not to conceal such atrocities but to report them to save their children’s lives.
She further said women needed to be more aggressive in such matters but was however quick to note that their economic vulnerability contributed to them not reporting such cases adding that this was a sad development.
She said men who were destroying lives of their female children needed
spiritual transformation and should desist from such activities.
Meanwhile, Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) National
Coordinator Nelson Mwape has called on society to play an active role
in educating each other against such vices.
Mr. Mwape said Zambia had rules and regulations which were supposed to
be abided by stressing that the bible did not equally allow carnal knowledge of children by their parents.
He noted that some mothers were aware of what was happening in their families but instead opted to remain silent adding that this was wrong and such acts should be exposed.
He encouraged mothers to expose their husbands for the betterment of
their children describing such situations as abnormal.
Mr. Mwape said there was urgent need to get to the root cause of the
problem and called on all concerned stakeholders to come up with a
campaign to help address the issue.
He added that the campaign should include both men and women who should work together and observed that cases of women molesting under age children was equally happening.
Turning to the media, Mr. Mwape further said there was also need for the media to expose child defilers in an effort to curb such acts instead of taking photos of victims who were already traumatised.
”it is our duty as parents to protect, guide and provide for our children and once we start molesting them we are not performing our duty but instead we are damaging their lives,”Mr Mwape noted.

141 defect to MMD Mongu
About 141 cadres from various political parties in Mongu District of Western Province have today defected to the ruling MMD.
The defectors are from the Patriotic Front (PF) United Party for National Development (UPND) and ADD.
Addressing the defectors and MMD party members at Mongu airport before departure for Kaoma this morning, Vice President George Kunda said Western Province is still a strong hold for the MMD and is a party which accommodates everyone.
Mr. Kunda wondered why some media are speculating false reports that the Patriotic Front (PF) is becoming strong in the Province when people are leaving its party to join the MMD.
He said the MMD government has done a lot for the people of Zambia adding that it is the only party that is able to deliver development in the Country.
The Vice President said it is common feature in almost every District he has been that people are defecting from opposition parties to the MMD.
“MMD is very popular in western Province in particular Mongu, it makes me wonder why the PF keeps on bragging of becoming strong in the province when people are running away from them” Mr. Kunda said.
AND speaking on behalf of the defectors, Former PF member Alex Chinga said they decided to join the ruling MMD because of many developmental projects that government is undertaking in the whole province.
Mr. Chinga noted that in a short period of being in office, President Rupiah Banda has managed to build many schools, hospitals and construct roads in the entire Province.
He added that he could not continue being in the opposition PF because it is a party which believes in homosexuality.
“As for me personally, the moment I heard that Mr. Sata was promoting homosexuality, I decided to change because am a Christian and the Bible does not say so” Chinga added.
He said as a group they will ensure that they encourage those who have remained in the PF/ UPND/ ADD to join the Ruling MMD.
