Sebastian Mwansa literally kicked Green Buffaloes out of this year’s Confederations Cup when he failed to convert a vital penalty against Egyptian club Ismaily who advanced to the pre-group stage of the tournament.
Mwansa failed a penalty in the 84th minute that would have knocked out Ismaily with the two sides locked at 1-1 prior to the awarding of the spot-kick.
Had Mwansa not missed, Buffaloes would have been on their way to making history by coming the first Zambian clubs to knockout an Egyptian opponent from any Caf club competition.
The result means Buffaloes bow out 3-2 on aggregate ending any interests for this year for any Zambian club in African club cup tournaments.
Meanwhile, Buffaloes today took a 1-0 lead into the break through a Mwansa goal in the 42nd minute to turn to hero before turning to zero nine minutes before the close of the game with that missed penalty.
Mohamed Mohsen put Ismaily back in the driving seat with a 68th minute goal before the Egyptian club side from Alexandria survived that late penalty scare.
