MMD leadership feud deepens

Share

Former High commissioner to Canada Dr.Nevers Mumba

THE MMD Die Hard youth wing has challenged former MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba’s wife, Lumba, to disclose her preferred party president instead of peddling derogative media statements to scandalise Nevers Mumba who has all qualities to stand as MMD president.

National coordinator Bowman Lusambo has since given Mrs Kalumba an ultimatum of two days in which to reveal her preferred candidate and stop attacking Dr Mumba. He said in an interview yesterday that MMD youths were disappointed with Mrs Kalumba’s conduct of attacking Dr Mumba through the media. He said Mrs Kalumba’s failure to disclose her stance within two days effective today and tomorrow would force them to block her participation during forthcoming party convention.

Mr Lusambo was reacting to Mrs Kalumba’s statements reported in some sections of the media commenting on MMD party presidency. “Mrs Kalumba should respect Dr Mumba because he is currently the only potential candidate who can uplift the party from where it is now. Dr Mumba has all the support and he is a competent and hardworking leader,” Mr Lusambo said. He said the MMD needed a leader who was charismatic and Dr Mumba was such a person the opposition party required because of wealth leadership qualities, especially that he had also served as Republican vice-president. He said Dr Mumba was a hardworking leader who had proved to all and?would not divide the MMD once elected as party president.

“Some of the people Mrs Kalumba thinks can take the party forward have ?been failures and cannot perform any task. Among all those who are vying for the MMD presidency, Dr Mumba is the only capable candidate who will take the MMD to higher heights and provide visionary leadership skills,” he said. Mr Lusambo said the MMD youth wing would continue to defend Dr Mumba because he was headed for victory during forthcoming party convention due to massive support he would receive.

He said former vice-president Enoch Kavindele who was recently on ?campaign trips with former president Rupiah Banda was not capable of leading the MMD because he was among the people who wrongly advised Mr Banda and lost the elections. He said MMD in its current status needed a true messiah to unite it and that could only be achieved through Dr Mumba if voted as party president.

Mr Lusambo hailed the police stance on carrying out various corruption investigations but said such should not be done as a result of political motivations. And MMD Lusaka Province Taskforce chairperson Chiwele Maimisa described as strange the statement by Ms Kalumba.

Mr Maimisa said Ms Kalumba was not the right person to talk about corruption in the party given that her husband was in court facing corruption charges.

Meanwhile, the MMD Watchdogs has proposed that former Finance minister Situmbeko Musokotwane should take over as party president. National Mobilisation coordinator Boyd Liambai said Dr Musokotwane was best suited to lead the MMD. In a letter to MMD National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe, Mr Liambai said the decion to back Dr Musokotwane was reached at after a serious and vigorous consultation from people within and outside the party structures countrywide. And MMD deputy national chairperson Kabinga Pande has dispelled assertions by some political analysts that the former ruling party risks going into oblivion because of its failure to reorganise itself since the defeat in the September 20 polls.

He said since the defeat, the MMD has been reorganising itself and had constituted various committees to come up with the best ways of once again attracting the electorate to the party.

Political analysts Dante Saunders, Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) president Alex Ng’oma and Zambia Open University lecturer in the School of Development Studies Thomas Mabwe at the weekend predicted that the MMD was headed for extinction because the members were busy jostling for the presidency at the expense of reorganising the party.

But Mr Pande said contrary to the assertions by the three political analysts, the MMD had since the loss been reorganising itself and the Zambians would soon be shocked by the party’s performance in the coming parliamentary by-elections in Magoye and Nakonde.

  1. The MMD has run it’s full cycle. We all know what happened to UNPI after they lost power and this is the same incurable disease that afflicts the MMD today. Not even the powers of the most powerful Sangoma can salvage the MMD. For that party, its: “kwamana, kufelile, kwasila, chapwa”. Not even the good lord Christ can resurrect this carcass and for all I care, they should remain dead. When we told them Banda was leading them into political oblivion, they called us messengers of doom. Now let’s see how the likes of Dora can skip landing in jail, abrah cadabrah, ha ha ha!

  2. The politics that killed MMD is this thing of endorsing single candidates and intimidating the rest. Just go to a conversion and let as candidates as possible stand. Allow everyone to attend the conversion.

  3. “Zambia shall be saved ” I do recall that this was Pastor Nevers Mumba vision when he was pastor, I am not sure about now. Can he be the saviour of MMD it remains to be answered by the Die hard MMD themselve. Beware you could be ridding on a sinking ship.

  4. If any Bemba leads MMD into 2016 elections, rest assured that UPND will win the presidential elections hands down. After Sata’s tribalism, 2016 will be Bembas versus the rest of Zambia.  MMD should take note.

  5. #7 bantustan southern province is not the rest of Zambia. what is with you people against the bembas? why do you want hand outs from the person you did not vote for. If u want appointments, go to HH.

  6. No. 7! Kekekeeeeeeeeeee. Libizo la hao boyi has cracked my ribs. Somehow, I agree with you – although I am wondering why No. 8 is calling you Bantustan?? Kana munungu wa uziba hande luli??

  7. # 8kci spot on, you want a person to leave out GBM and Kambwili but these guys worked hard for sata during the campagms, just because they bembas they should they be excluded now when you used to see them during the campangms why did you not complain then.stop been tribal.WE chi #7

  8. Munungu Wasata@7

Majority rules so if the next elections a Bemba wins, it’s because the Zambian people vote for him, if PF fields Hon Lubinda and he wins then the people have spoken and if HH wins the Zambians will have put him there, all this tribal nosense is for uncouth and uncivilised people

  9. Politics in Zambia should move to a more matured level where issues and not personalities or tribalism should be entertained.

  10. #7 Be mindful of who you refer to az “the rest of Zambia”, becauze Lusaka, Copperbelt, Northern, Luapula and to a very reazonable degree, Eastern, Western and Central Provincez massively ushered Sata into State House.

  11. Lusambo, how much has Mr Mumba given you?You are still young,go to college and then after find a decent job for yourself..If you cannot go to college(since you are allergic to education-I know you from Soltec and Kyawama),join NAREP since it has some life or perhap a football coaching career will not be bad for you since you are an ex-footballer.This is free advise, take it or
    leave it.

  12. thanks lusambo and MMD youthes, its good that youths have realise that Dr mumba is the best person to lead the MMD and has got all what is takes it to the next level.because he has got all what it takes. he is needed in time such as this.he is carrismatic and understand the leaders trait for 21 century. i know people are just jealous of him. the time has come to hand over leadership to the next generation. joshua generation who will realise the zambian dream. or taking the country to the promised land.go go mumba your time has come to posses the land only be strong and couragous. like what you preached damaged by not destroyed. you are like esther who stood before and say couragously the king and say ” if i perish i perish” . and God will fight 4 u

  13. pastor mumba is the credible leader who understands leadership both secularly and biblical leadership. the leadership of christ.i must confess mumba is better that obama. it is just that he is coming from zambia and the prophet has no honour among his people. i know mumba will do wonders just like the way he has being doing in his life. no insult or criticism will swaved from what God has for his life. he is imune to negative criticism. Go mumba your time has come to bring mmd and raise it like dry bones from the valley and make it in to the great army. come back home and liberate your people they have suffered too long.

  14. one thing about mumba is that he has got four pillars that most people are lookig for from the leader 1) honesty 2) visionary 3)inspiring and 4) very highly competent. so far i think he is the best candidate contesting for MMD presidency.

  15. Please, please, please, please, please, please, I’m pleading on behalf of Lusambo. He says excuse him for doesn’t know what he was saying. He has been massively misquoted. He was DRUNK when he issued the statement.

  16. Mumba should never have left the church, he could have been driving a hammer with a jet on the way now! Look at the dimwit Imakando and what he has amassed? What of a charismatic leader like Nevers? Ba Mumba, shame on you for joining politics, just come back and set up another church after all, its big business!!:-h

  17. # 7Munungu wa Sata and your fellow thickheads – Zambia is a democratic country and therefore it is the people (majority) who speak. Insulting Bembas just because Sata, the man you detest, has beaten your prefered candidate is primitive. Your blog name is so sick to say the least. If you have any brains you should help your candidate to come up with a strategy that will appel to the masses next time – otherwise you will die a bitter and twisted person.

  18. the statement of saying mumba has left the church is not correct. mumba is still in the church. it is just that he not activity in ministry but he is involved in preaching and offeriing counselling to the church and he is always available.they say once a minister always a ministry. because mumba is ordained for life and he shall always a pastor. and you shouldnt campare him with any othe minister because he is different and has the different calling.please leave mumba alone if you dont have any thing to say. mumba did not abandoned the church he left bishop nsofwa in charge. i have seen all critics leveled against him are in mature and baseless

  19. MMD is now on a total self distruction route or mode. Single sourcing of a leader. Why do we have this problem in Zambia of thinking one person can put a leader for all to agree upon. Well MMD we are tired of you, lef PF jail you and the remaining shadow should be removed from the face of earth by these uneducated or untrainable cardes of your (MMD).

  20. LT should cramp down on tribalism, as much as they do to insults.

LT, tribalism is worse than insults for it divides a nation and can cause war. Dont allow your media to be used for divisive stuff. Thanks.

  21. This LUSAMBO chap is out of order. He’s one of the lunatics MMD must get rid off in order to restore their image, we can’t have a political atmosphere where all parties are based on a cadreship of total lunacy – there’s enough of that already in the PF. Like anyone else, Mrs Kalumba has the right to express her dissatisfaction with any candidate as long as she does’nt do it in an insulting or demeaning manner. And she is also free not to disclose her preferred one, without being harassed. This is what democracy is. If MMD will continue harbouring people like LUSAMBO in their ranks, they never come out of this ditch that RB got them into. People vying for MMD presidency should not forget that great leaders emerge in the worst moments of an organisation of revolution!

  22. those who do not know nevers will support him but those of us who know him……….

you are lucky am not mmd, otherwise iwe nevers…..

  23. LT please do take into consideration what Ice_Road_Trucker @ 25 is proposing, please do clamp down on tribalism as you very well do with the insults. Let these that want to be tribal and get away with insulting and threatening our national security go and do it at Zambian Watchdog seeing its one site you are allowed to insult the Zambian govt and call bembas kolwes. Let us be civilsed as a people

  24. @ 16 Italian Mafia Bwangu Bwangu. Ba MwineMushi. Recruit village headmen from N….to PF govt to spice credibility to lapses besetting it. We shall sit back comfortably and watch……….wait a minute, to ensure behaviour fit for good governance prevails.

  25. LT l suggest you take into serious consideration into what Ice_Road_Trucker @25 is proposing, please clamp down on tribalism as you very well do with insults. Let those that want to promote tribalism and threatening our national security go and do it on zambian watchdog seeing ZWD is one site your allowed to insult the Zambian govt , that site encourages to call bembas kolwes and to hate anything bemba or northern let us be civilised and practice what we preach

    • LOOKING AT HOW PEOPLE HAVE REACTED TO THE COMMENT YOU MADE YOU ARE THE MAD ONE, JUST DRINK YOUR MABISI YOU *****IC NGOMBE

  26. Nevers will take MMD nowhere!  He failed to make his own party into any meaningful opposition, how do you suppose he can transform MMD when he has no idea about politics.

  27. factions emerging in the movement of mafia dons. we have diehards and watchdogs all fighting for their capo to be the new godfather.
by the time of the mafia convention most of them wil prolly be in jail.

LT whats all this moderating. you dont like the truth. what is there to moderat about my comment.i think what you prefer are silly tribalist comments! ba fee color

  29. MMD you dont cease to amuse me. U seem to be engraved in undemocratic acts. Already you pick is Dr Mumba & are already threatening others. U have gotten so used to hand piking leaders & u think its democracy. Realise that u have very deep septic wounds that wont heal so easily, if at all they will heal even if Dr Mumba takes over. U have think tanks on the ground with u that wld aid the party but u intimidate them. Its not about being charismatic but being able to lead, Dr Mumba seems to work well under somebody, where is his church and party? Worked well as u claim when he was VP under supervision. With the change of govt he has been recalled yet he says his tour of duty ends 12/31/2011, u call that leadership! What names will u call him if he doesn’t salvage the party quickly?

  30. Woah this blog is wonderful i really like reading your posts. Stay up the great paintings! You recognize, a lot of individuals are looking round for this information, you can aid them greatly.
