Hail the Post newspapers – Sansakuwa

Share

An MMD party official in Kafue says the party should give credit to the Post newspaper for having made it work hard through the stories it used to publish up to the run up of the presidential elections.

MMD district party chairman Goodson Sansakuwa said in Kafue Saturday that the ruling party should consider itself lucky that it was able to win the presidential elections as the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) really gave them a good campaign.

Mr. Sansakuwa said as a party it has learnt lessons on how the electorate view the ruling MMD. He said if it was not for the stories the post were publishing about the MMD, it would not have been easy to plan and strategize well for the its campaigns and win the elections.

He said he was happy that the MMD, despite the negative publicity by the the private daily, was able to turn them into positives. He said the MMD will from now on work hard to ensure it revisits its manifesto to woe more support.

Mr. Sansakuwa who is also Kafue district council chairman said the party in the district has set out a programme in which it will start planning for the 2011 elections.

He said despite some members defecting to the opposition, the party in the district was strong and will not allow outsiders to win the people.

Mr. Sansakuwa appealed to Republic President Rupiah Banda to fulfill the promises made during campaigns. He said the MMD will only win the 2011 elections if it fulfills its promises.

Mr. Sansakuwa also appealed to the national executive committee to start visiting members on the ground instead of only staying in Lusaka. He said many members at grassroots level are not happy with the way the top leadership in the party are treating branch members.

He said the NEC should find time to tour branch officials as these are the ones who campaign for them most of the time. He said the MMD has a huge task of working hard so that new issues are raised and people’s interests in elections are revived.

The district official also called on the party to revive its manifesto so that it is tailored to the current needs of the Zambian people. He said the current manifesto is proving to be not helpful in addressing what the Zambian people want.

  1. Yes indeed, the Post made it possible for the MMD to win the elections. May the good lords bless them.

  2. This MMD official must be commended for being honest to real situations. MMD must draw lessons from their near loss and work to bring about meaningful change to the people of Zambia and not cheap talk like the big mouthed Teta Mashimba.

  3. The Post is the best paper so far as it exposed the MMD canditate’s Banda corrupt tendecies.is it not true that he distributed sugar and mealie meal in Katete?

  4. PF loss was great lesson for the post that people should be allowed to make decisions without biased sensational, unpalatable reporting and insults. Now that Banda is in they must be feeling like a donkey in human skin.

  5. The Post has not been biased in their reporting unlike the Times of zambia and Daily mail. Its also allowed for a newpaper to support a particular candidate.Newspapers in the US endorsed candidates of their wish and people didnt see anything wrong with it. What wrong with Zambians kanshi? For you own information The Post is the only paper that has been able to offer checks and balances on govt, expose corruption etc.Infact the Post is nothing compared to some of the Newspapers in developed countries.Common lets not be retrogressive.HANDS OF THE POST, VIVA POST!

  6. The POST said SATA was ‘unstopable’. Does that still hold water, or could someone explain it to me beyond its face value? Is the post very have with their achievements? Did the post enjoy the results of elections or are they claiming it was for the sake of informing the nation that they wrote those stories? I could see Malupenga half sleeping when he was interviwed by Muvi TV, as he tried to suggest that the POST was ‘fair’. No one has verified whether Malupenga understands the word ‘fair’. Mr Malupenga can make a good fiction editor because his seriousness looks by nature like pretence.

  7. Pastor J ukamba chani? The Post is the “ONLY” paper that covered ALL the four candidate ACCORDING to what was on the ground not fabricated stories. WE all must commend them for their reporting. Hats off to this kafue man for being so open. Thats the way to go.

  8. #7. Don-chi-chi
I agree with you. The post has not been biased; they have just been confused because of their problems at Zambian Airways. They packed all remorse if they had any; they lost all ability to know when it was time to feel ashamed and embarassed. They lost all froms of conscience. This was a moment of irration on their part. A time when the word thinking was an obstacle in their way. Desparation was their master, and they became absolutely submissive to it.

  9. Hey help me here is Rb a corrupt person, did he win thru` Rigging or people are just making up stories how true is it? i am dieing to know…i dont really know the man….

  10. #11. Umupila,
We have eyes and so we can see the same objects but I notice that we percieve very differently. I hope the color we call white we both see it the as white, and it appears the same in our eyes.

  11. #13. Anonymous,
Rigging is the sate of mind of the believer. It does not exist in real life. Ask any of those who talk about rigging how it was done; they dont know, they just believe. It is like those falk tales we used to hear when we were young. The story of rigging normally comes to people who lose elections. It is an illusion, not reality. I hope this helps!

  12. Was Sata vetted by the post? NO..If they brought out Sata’s past dealings RB was going to look like a saint. Now that Sata lost, they may soon compromise objective criticism of RB when its due, just to reclaim favors for their failing businesses.

  13. Iwe #7 The post was insulting and degrading RB to the point that even us who were not suppoting MMD felt for RB, is that what the papers in US do? Insulting and endorsing, I thought are two different things. Anyway,ku US ni kutali for me to make an informed arguement. Bad post had gone a little bit too far believe my friend, its now that they are coming down to earth.

  14. WHATEVER WAY YOU INTERPRET IT THOSE ELECTIONS WERE RIGGED IT CAN NOT BE PROVEN BUT THATS A FACT JST LIKE ADULTERY IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT YOU CANT BE ACCUSED BUT DEEP DOWN YOUR HEART YOU KNOW THAT UNACHITA CHIGOLOLO

  15. #18. CONCERNED,
Interesting display of emotions! So if I say to you that yesterday you were involved in adultery will you agree or refuse? I think you cannot deny after all there is no way of proving that you did not do it. So Mr concerned, it is sad that yesterday evening you were involved in adultery though you dont want to admit just because me i have no proof. I hope you dont continue with such behaviour.

  16. We also thank the POST for helping us win. Because Zambians were scared to see kaponya’s like Sata to run. So when the saw all the stories and the crowds at sata’s rulies. They went and voted MMD..

VIVA POST… i hope you have learnt a lesson never back up a wrong tree..

Now it is time to eat the money in BOMA before 2011.

    Malume.

  17. The truth always hurts. Its better to read the post newspapaer than those government papers which dont expose corrupt people.
Is it not true that RB give out sugar, mealie meal, brown envelops among otherthings during campaign?
Viva Post you just did your job to expose corrupt leader.

  18. #18 THATS THE WAY LIFE GOES AND PPL HAVE GOTTEN AWAY WITH WHATEVER ILLS THEY HAVE DONE SINCE YOU CANT PROVE THAT MMD RIGGED YOU CANT TAKE THEM TO COURT AM NOT EVEN MMD BUT I KNOW THE WAY THEY OPERATE AND YOU KNOW IT

  19. #27. CONCERNED,
So you mean if I come up with a thought which can neither proven right or wrong, then in your view it becaomes correct by default? So if i tell you that I saw a gost this morning, you will automatically believe since there is no way of proving me wrong? In your view it becomes a fact, since there is no way to prove. If that is the case, i am afraid many people will start hallucinating and everyone will believe them on suspicious grounds. What a challenge for our generation that would be!

  20. The post newspaper realy did a commendable job overcoming the corrupt forces of mulongoti and RB.While Mulongoti’s ZNBC,Times of Zambia, Dialy etc cover RB favourably, The post acted professionally trying to balance the situation.

  21. #7.Don-chi-chi, You need to revisit your understanding of the western media. You may be living in USA but you, just like a number of other americans, probably can’t critic the media there rightly. It is one thing not to back a candidate and quite another thing to be derogative to a candidate. The post was derogative to RB.It insulted him thru and thru.I followed US politics quite closely and I get to read the Washingtone Post and New York times almost daily and while I agree(and everyone knows) different papers in the US endorsed different candidates with Obama winning more endorsements I didn’t see the Obama endorsers demeaning and insulting McCain in any way.

  22. #7 dont mislead people about the US newspapers. yes US papers endorsed candidates but did the post endorse Sata? No! they went on to pretend neutrality! for you own information the post went ahead to write over 70 editorials against and about one man! professional and fair! what a joke!!! ever heard that even truth has to be fair? thats why when they brought out all the evil against RB and left out the constitutional massacre, the panga wielding cadres events of chawama and even the bribing of cadres they reported about SATA last year they lost claim to fairness. Papers in the US cannot afford to have a headline and an editorial about one person for two months and survive!

  23. #30 just to agree with you i have been reading papers in the states as well, particularly the New York Times which is arguably one of the best papers and which later endorsed Obama i never saw it insult McCain, neither did i see them carry Obama as their permanent headline and McCain as a permanent villain in their editorial comment. maybe #7 should tell us the papers he has been reading that behaved like the Post. So we can have a look as well.

  24. cont.

The other difference between the endorsements that those US papers gave their prefered candidates can’t be compared to the one our zambian Post gave to their prefered candidate. If you followed the way those endorsements came about in the US you’ll agree with me that most of them were ‘earned endorsements’ i.e.,the candidates earned the endorsements after the papers observed & critically analysed their campaign msgs among other things where as with our Post they didn’t even take time to wait and see what the different candidates had to offer!Right from the start they went after RB!The man(Sata) whom they said they would never cover again became their ally. The Post are such a SHAME!

  25. Anatola IV walasa! each paper wrote one editorial explaining and defending their decision to endorse either McCAIN or Obama. And all was based on campaign messages.

  26. #32,pls ask the brother #7 to tell us which papers he reads. The problem with most of our fellow zambians is that they can’t think and look at issues outside the Post framework of mind.I know where the #7 brother and the likes of him got that line of thought-its the Post in zambia.Because in one of his editorials M’membe once stated that “even the US papers endorse their prefered candidates” so now every zambian who has surrendered his/her free mind to think & critic issues will just be repeating M’membe’s OPINION.My appeal to our pipo is to take the Post Editorial for what it really is-an OPINION, and that opinion is for ONE person called M’membe.Do we really want 2b opinionated by 1 guy?

  27. Mmembe forgot the very common maxim that says power corrupts. because his paper at one point became good and powerful he started thinking what ever the post says, the nation must endorse and act on. Its the only paper i have seen that quarrels with sources and threatens to stop covering them. In journalism you rub against alot of people the wrong way because you are always searching for the truth which people dont want to give out. but when did you hear even our bad times and daily mail or ZNBC say they have stopped covering Sata because they quarreled. Sata says a lot of bad things about them though. The Post does some of the most weird and unprecedented things.

  28. LT why are you nt teling ur readerz as to why RB has canceled hs foreign trips..tel the truth,im sure u knw th reasons by nw…

  29. Wewewe teach us mo! I like ur arguements. Post did mo thn reporting on rupiya. Am sure zambian airways issued partly affectd post rptng angle toward nyamabest banda

  30. “We need similar ideologies. Patriotic Front (PF) President Michael Sata says political parties should only merge if they hold similar political ideologies. Mr. Sata says there is no need for political parties that do not have a similar agenda to come together. He was responding to a question on the need for the opposition parties to merge in a bid to oust the ruling MMD from government. This was during a press briefing in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, Friday. Mr. Sata questioned the credibility of the Zambian electoral system under the current legislation. He also reiterated his party’s plans to petition President Rupiah Banda’s election.” Source: w w w . z n b c . c o . z m. Why ask UPND?

  33. The latest elections have been I hope an instructive lesson to all sides. For the MMD, I hope they have finally seen that depending on attracting foreign investors without lifting up the people of Zambia makes them very unpopular at election time.

For the PF and UPND, I think the lesson has been that only a united opposition can unseat the government in power. Hopefully, they have also learned that their message should contrast the present government’s policies to have the greatest effect.

    2011 can be very interesting.

  34. Siding with one candidate is one thing, but insulting the one you don’t side with is another. The Post overstepped its line, where each editorial comment in the last three months had an element of insulting Rupiah Banda. I have never seen such kind of a paper anywhere. Good that the Post exposed itself. People are the best judges, and good that Rupiah is not vengeful. Continue with your insults The Post. The paper that is known to dig deeper could not dig beyond Rupiah Banda. “SATA UNSTOPABLE”; MONGU AWAITS SATA; SATAMANIA GRIPS MONGU”. All from the paper that digs deeper. How can a sane paper have it’s frontpage saying, “MONGU AWAITS SATA”.

  35. cont…..

“MONGU AWAITS SATA” is reporting on something that has not happened. People would be interested to know the outcome of what Sata does in Mongu. That is what would make news. Not a promise to visit Mongu itself is news.

  36. THAT PAPER HATES HH HH TO THE POINT OF KILLING HIM POLITICALLY. HH ONCE TOLD ZAMBIA THAT THAT PAPER HAS A PREFERRED CANDIDATE, SOME CHAPS CALLED HH A LIAR, NOW READER IS HH AS EVIL AS PERCEIVED BY THAT PAPER? CONSIDER HEADINGS SATAMANIA HITS SOUTHERN PROVINCE. WAS THAT TRUE? SATA UNSTOPPABLE FROM WHAT? ADVICE… CHUUMBWE AND GBM RETURN TO MMD, EMULATE THE CLEVER NAKAWALA. YOU WILL ONLY BE EMBARRASSED FOR ONE DAY. VIVA ABWEZA A BANDA PRESIDENT.

  37. The only solution for zambia is to be divided into states not provinces due to regional political popularities. One cant be a leader to pipo who rejected him.Secondly fifty plus one should be applied in twenty eleven or as we hear from zimbabwe militia are training in a neighbouring country due to rejected leaders continuing leading without popularity.

  38. If USA was in Africa , papers would read something like:

Don’t celebrate yet, McCain tells Obama
    Concede defeat, Obama urges McCain
    20 opposition cadres riot
    McCain Demands Vote Recount
    Elections rigged
    No evidence of manipulation
The Church declares elections free and fair
There will be violence if we lose, McCain declares
    Election results for Arizona awaited
Trucks with suspected ballot papers crosses into USA from Mexico
McCain is an opportunist – Go back to your farm
I will not accept results, McCain tells Obama(copyright)

  39. By posting the above, I am not saying the opposition should not challenge the outcome of the results…”hell NO”. Zambia is not USA. I am at the same time disgusted with the aftermath of the Zambia elections. Don’t ask me how.

  40. This Sansakuwa is the district chairman for MMD – Kafue. what a scandle. These are the people that are running Kafue District Council as council chairman, the town that seats right along kafue River ahd yet the town has rationed twixce short times a day (one hour)water and upper flats dont even have a single drop of water the whole year.

They have allowed brothels at Faduco, ZC, and other sleezy joints.
Shame to bootlickers. Shame to Sansakuwa and his team. Kafue roads ares littered with potholes fit to be gallies or war trenches.

  41. I wonder why everybody has failed to mention that the Post are shareholders in the struggling Zambian Airways which is depending on government support for survival.Rupiah Banda when he was acting VP was not in favor of a govt bailout for these guys. Magande was. And Sata obviously made the necessary promises This is how the whole thing became so personal. Its nothing to do with principle or whatever its just about a few pieces of silver that the post betrayed the nation and started photoshopping pictures of Sata rallies and releasing misguiding headlines. In the editorial the chap even had to the chic to make it look like he had already influenced the electorate and blaming RB for the way

  42. contd’ from post #53.. things had turned out. He quotes a lot of the Bible in his editorials taking advantage of the spiritual nature of Zambians to easily impress upon their minds his opinion which in turn is normally mainly to serve his narrow individualistic agenda. He is lucky he is in Zambia where there is no competition so he is a monopoly. As with all monopolies the chances of abuse of power are very high and this is what is happening with these chaps Mmembe and his sidekick Malupenga. All systems are self correcting however, he can be gauranteed that as long as he continues on the path of manipulation for his own narrow interests that paper will eventually be reduced to irrelevance

  43. Well done Post Zambia and it is true you made RB72 famous and he won.He is our Excellence the Republican Zed presido.

Viva H H go go forward

  44. well said nzelu ni plan and what all this narrows down to is that Zambia needs another strong independent newspaper. A well thought out paper with a serious level of investment would see that new entrant take market share overnight and take key members of staff there. Sometimes staff havent been paid for months. Its an open secret that the Post is also behind with their ZRA dues – rumours are that this is for a period of 2 – 3 years. For some reason, me think it was the Mwanawasas and Magnde, ZRA has never ever touched them. Yet the Post coughed $3Mn into Zambian Airways – where did the money come from…there are definitely rats in this one and there will be more to come out.

  45. NEWSPAPERS!!even in western democracies u have pro and anti govt. papers.Off course this press tycons have interests. But at the end of the day its up to u,to decipher the news and judge who u want to vote. The post has done well so far and i wonder if Lusaka times is anti or for govt.??It has given us a great Forum to discuss ideas,I m loving it, all this diverse views.INTERESTING!!Keep it up comrades.

  46. Fred is a silly boy with selfish ideas. It good that RB won the presidency, and i haven’t heard the Post sending congratulative message to His Excellency.Time is coming when more shall be heard from the Post, period.

  47. The finished SATA will never rule Zambia as long as it remains a christian Nation. The Zambian Airways issue is the 1 tht made the POST to be partizan coz of the promises they received from Sata. Now is pay back time. PAYBACK NKHONGOLE MR SATA AND THE HIRED CHOPER .

  48. You can say all you wanna say bout the Post but it still remains the best option for those of us that are open-minded and dont want to buy papers like times, daily or listen to zambia national boring tv where the govt is not criticized. Once again, VIVA POST! You’re not the only ones who’ve ever supported your own. Good luck with your Zambian Airways issues!!

  49. ‘Psycho Mata’ & Fred Mmembe, your days are numbered, we will slowly begin to squeeze your wrinkled ball$. Come 2011, you’ll barely be able to walk.

  50. I have always admired the Post News Paper. But in the just ended presidential elections, I was very disappointed with them. They became so unprofessional that it they were at their worst performance ever since. What we expected of them was to give us a critical analysis of each of the four candidates. They should have shown us the positive and negative sides of each candidate so that we could make an informed decision, but the great Post fall short of that. Please, our great Paper, the POST, repent from this sin. Next time we expect you do better, be honest and trustwothy and not biased.

  51. #61 am also open minded but the post did not give us a balanced analysis of all candidates. It looked like if they painted rupiah red then the rest will be blue. You are not implying that Miyanda, sata and hakainde were angels. they have their dark side which we needed to know. Its agood think to report about RB’s corruption but to be silent about others is biasness. Lets be truthful here. Miyanda, Sata and Hakainde are not holy because RB is a sinner, not at all.

  52. THE POST WAS EMPLOYED TO BE A POLITICAL ASSASSIN TO POLITICALLY KILL RB. THEY WROTE 56 EDITORIALS AGAINST RB IN 57 DAYS FROM LEVY’s BURIAL

THEY FAILED TO FINISH HIM OFF AND HAVE SHOWN NO REMORSE.

    ALWAYS HIDING BEHIND PRESS FREEDOM

    EVERY FREEDOM CARRIES A RESPONSIBILITY

THE PARADOX IS HOW TO SAFEGUARD A FREEDOM THAT MIGHT DESTROY US LIKE IT DID RWANDA BECAUSE WE ARE SO EXTREME, POLARISED AND INSULTING EACH OTHER BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMISM OF THE POST.
