Share

Government has given the committee charged with the responsibility to investigat the cause of the Konkola stadium stampede up to June 25th, 2007 to present its report, Youth, Sport and Child Development Minister, Gabriel Namulambe revealed today.

Mr. Namulambe also clarified that it was not a commission of inquiry that was set to
investigate the stadium accident but an administrative committee.

ZANIS reports that the Minister said the committee has a responsibility to see what
could be done to avoid such accidents in future.

He however said the committee has not concluded its investigations yet saying a
request has been put forward to get the report by 25 th of this month.

The committee was set up to investigate the death of 12 victims who died from a
stampede at Konkola stadium on Saturday 9 th June after Zambia’s 3-0 win over Congo
Brazzaville in the Ghana 2008 Africa cup qualifier.

Meanwhile, Mr. Namulambe said the Zambia National Service (ZNS) camps were doing
very fine in training youths.

He warned people against giving alms to people on the streets because this
encouraged them to stay on the streets.

  1. iwe ka Gabriel Namulambe tawakwata amano. the current stadia were built when Zed had population of 6million nomba we are 11 million te?plz dont misuse govt money for useless commission of stupidity(CI). Everyone knew why we lost our friends te? dont shift blame on inncent pipo wekawelelewe.so where is the stadium ama chang cheng chung promised?

Tell chuchu to show us how far ama chang cheng chung bafika na Dag stadium.

  2. You dont need an FBI agent to found out things like the Banfroft Saga where lives of 12 fans where lost. This just shows how dangerous and insecure is public life in Zambia. We demand the report as soon as possible. Gone are the days in which such reports where hidden like they way it took a decade to know the truth about the Gabon air crush.

  3. #1 Ba Joze and #2 Musanga, this just goes to show how the govt disregards human life, now they have come up with a commission of inquiry to assess the cause of the stampede, and through that they want to divert funds in their pockets. Where their friends are grieving they see an opportunity to make money as if they are Undertakers.
It is said the committee is set up to avoid future happening, hasn’t such a stampede happened at Independence Stadium and what did they do about it.

  4. i said it learn to read btnween the line>it a patter that allopportunists adopt.
investigate a stampede i wonder what the term of reference were.
the cause of the stampede and recommend to ensure pipo dont stampede again. come on this happened even at wembly stadium. we need to change our attitudes as pipo of this nation and have respect for ourselves and human life.

    attitude change is key

  6. #3 Kayata, truly there is no need for the govt to set up CI for it’s a shear waste of money and an indication of nonchalance by not learning from the past. May be for the sake of CAF demands in order to compensate the believed families, then go ahead but be pragmatic in the time frame. Ba Joze, I agree with you we need standard soccer stadia.

  7. “FAZ devises measures to avoid another stampede” is the Sports page headline in The Post edition of Wednesday,13th June 2007.

Sorry fellows to say this but I think it is safe to say Zambia is a JOKE.How can gov. institute a committee to investigate the Konkola Stadium stampede and at the same time FAZ is saying they have devised measures to avoid another stampede. It just goes to show that FAZ knows where and what the problem is or was.Why not let FAZ give gov. a comprehensive report, which gov. will simply shelve and allow dust to gather. Why should we allow these stupid fools to hoodwink us all the time. The money you fools are wasting on this committee can be channelled to some useful project.Ya.Zambia really has a long long way to go.It is so frustrating to watch such stupidity and not be able to do something about it.These chaps just never learn.Niba chumbu munshololwa

  9. Kwena ba kolwe mufi muti bapulula amataba mwibala. Iwe ka Gabriel Namulambe na ba kolwe banobe mu govt muli fiwelewele bonsefye makandi yenu. Please stop taking advantage of the tax paying Zambians and use the money in rightful place not paying aba bakolwe ati seating allowance for a committee to investigate the Konkola staduim stampede.

  10. This is a very clear indication that we have a very heartless leadership.I thought it only applied to FTJ’s ill treatment but its actually a nationawide disregard for respecting the dead? And if they are doing a CI isnt eveidence going to be tempered with?Real forensic examniation should have meant cordoning off the accident area until you are thru with investigations.Mulonga and banditry because of out of pocket allowance have opted to become irresponsible together with this party cadre Namulambe.Had Namulambe been a Kaponya like me he should have been remorseful and heartful that people are still mourning not that they chose to but because of the stupidity on the part of FAZ and Govt.Love for football must have called for great investment in stadia but upto now Dag is still a grazing ground. The insensitivity of the govt just drives me over board.I can think beyond …Its horrible, incorrigible, incredulous BaJoze finish this statement for me Iam disgusted

  11. How do you when the bodies of the victims are already burried. When Bob Olmmer died it took almost a month to fly him for burial in SA. The investigation is not disputed but what angers is hardly two we are going to rejoyce at this stadia. I hope this is not a bad omen.

  12. Mukwai nabetefye Smith!Govt has outsourced its ability to think. Ubu buteko bwabapa self-pilot kale bwaleka ukutontokanya. Lesa atwafwe! Ati ngachalichamumona ngakale twachifyona.

  13. I find it a waste of time toand resourses to appoint a commission of enquiry over such an issue. Stampede in public places is self e[planatory. Its only the jehovahs witnesses so far who have recorded a highest level of order at their conventions. When order is in place no one gets hurt. But disorder is expected at places like a football stadium. So measures are supposed to be put in place to combart any such disorder that may arise and hence become a cause of injury and consequently death of those entangled in it. GRZ must learn to think and study a bit of cibernetics.!!!

  14. #7 KC, Neither FAZ nor GRZ has the capacity to prevent a stampede from happening. All they can do is evaluate current facilities in order to reduce the loss of life in the event that people get to excited. Stampedes have happened in europe USA you name it. I do realise that the we can put procedures in place to help mitigate the situation. Also public sensitization is key to this problem.

  15. This issue seems “whimperish” I run out. Zebige kuku keep online. You prposed that sadist become sda. What sre the advantages?

  16. Kuku, wali belengapo TORA? I think there is alot to learn from our prophets. This american lifestyle has not been encouraged in Iran. U know that? No mini skirts and all.

  17. Having read through all the above comments, you guys have already compiled a report. The answers are there. I wonder what this so called CI will be doing up to 25th June. Unless they do something else like exhuming the bodies.

  18. Item just received. CI is waiting for another stampede this Saturday. As they assume FAZ has not put measures in place. So right now they are fitting their cameras in the stadium to have a full view of how it happens.

  19. Dead woman resurrects?
    By Times Reporter

A WOMAN of Chiyeke area in Chavuma district in North-Western Province who died four years ago has reportedly resurrected.
The woman, identified as Rebecca Fumbelo died in December 2003 after delivering a baby boy at Mpindi Mission Hospital in the border town.
The woman has reappeared from neighbouring Angola, and is at her relatives’ village in Zambezi district.
Police spokesperson Bonny Kapeso and Catholic Commission for Justice Development and Peace, (CCJDP) Zambezi district coordinator, Alex Kalukangu confirmed the incident yesterday.
Mr Kalukangu said in an interview that he had visited the woman and that she was now staying with relatives in Zambezi.
Mr Kalukangu said according to the relatives, the woman died while doing her grade 10 after giving birth at the mission hospital in Chavuma.
And Mr Kapeso said he had received a report that a woman had resurrected and that relatives rightly identified her on June 8.
“Godwine Fumbelo, her father, who is a worker at Chiyeke Rural Health Centre took her found daughter to his uncle, Kelvin Nonge under the care of a traditional healer. She is reportedly not able to speak but able to hear and see.
“The girl was buried on December 18, 2003 at Chiyeke cemetery, the same day she died,” Mr Kapeso said.
Mr Kalukangu said the relatives said the woman was mysteriously turned into a cow and briefly lived among the livestock until she was sold to a businesswoman in Luena, in Moxico Province of Angola.
But when the businesswoman wanted to slaughter the ‘cow’, the animal turned into a human being.
The businesswoman then sold the ‘woman’ as a maid to a rich businessman in Benguela.
And after only two days as a maid, she lost her speech and appeared confused prompting the businessman to call in a diviner who put some herbs on her head and she disappeared.
On arrival back in Zambia, she was taken to the police station.
And at the request of her parents, she was taken away from Chavuma to Zambezi. She has not been talking until yesterday.

The woman didn’t die after all!!!
She was just BELIEVED to have died.
Belief is not always equal to Truth.

  22. #20 Ala, it is a strange world we live in!! She did not died, but her soul was stole by the devil, the woman should be prayed over and her will come back to normal.

  23. So the chap who yesterday said unza dons are ngoshes should be blashing. Atfer all GRZ is now responding positively. If all Zedians were like unza dons, and their faithful students!!! Things could be moving.

  24. I have heard of countless commissions of enquiree which have never bore any fruit, it is clear the people assigned to oversee the proceedings at the stadium did not open enough gates and that is what forced people to panic as they were in a hurry to leave. So a commission of enquiry is a useless thing to under take because every one knows the result before they even come out, otherswise the 28 million dollars spent on the choper could have easily built 1400 houses to house over 7000 thousand people or even build an even better stadium that is not a death trap, do you realise that the gratituity these *****s get can go a long way it is painfull to pay tax and at the end of the day it is spent on useless things like chopers, these guys are *****s if u dont agree with me then u are equally an ***** in dire need of deliverance because surely when u look at yo pay slip and look at how much they deduct from your salary and then that money is spent on caffing another persons wife think about
