Saki defends Katele as ZCID chairman

Share

United Liberal Party (ULP) president Sakwiba Sikota has defended the
chairmanship of Dr Katele Kalumba at the Zambia Centre for Inter Party Dialogue (ZCID).

Mr Sikota who is also Livingstone Member of Parliament said in a livE interview on Zambezi FM community radio station in Livingstone last night that although Dr Kalumba was facing charges in the courts of law, he remained innocent until proven guilty.

”Dr Kalumba is facing charges, yes he is. As per my profession, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. If Dr Kalumba today was convicted, I would be the first one to ask him to step down,” he said.

He said even Patriotic Front Leader Micheal Sata was also facing charges in courts of law  over the alleged defamation of President Levy Mwanawasa adding that no one had asked him to step down on those grounds.

The position of Dr Kalumba as Chairman of the ZCID has raised debate within certain sectors of society as he is still facing charges in court.

Meanwhile, Mr Sikota has expressed concern at the Heads of Departments who allegedly shared the carcass of an elephant that died about two weeks ago in
Simoonga area near Kazungula district.

Mr Sikota wondered why ZAWA decided to share the meet with the Heads of government departments at the expense of local villagers who were harassed by the
animals.

He said he has asked ZAWA to furnish him with the criteria that was used for people to benefit from the meat adding that even if ZAWA did not give him a list, he would still table the issue in parliament.

”I would like ZAWA to give me a full list of those who benefited and what criteria was used. Even if they do not, Iam going to table the issue in parliament.

I went to Simoonga this morning to find out if anyone of them was offered the meat and they all said no, yet they are the ones that are harassed by elephants,” he said.

  1. Very worrying and disappointing are these are kind of lawyer we have in Zambia today. The court has become so weak this man Saki is supposed to lose his seat as MP. Anyway it world order even in America Bush used his powers to release his friend from prison. These gangs of thugs are at the helm of our leadership.

  2. Saki, how disappointing, he has picked up the wrong end of the stick – Katele’s chairmanship has little to do with his court cases, but rather the biasness of the ruling party – If a president of a leading party can’t see that, what hope do we have for these characters that harp on about turning politics or even running zambia, it’s times like this that one can’t really be bothered even if chuchu is still at plot one!!

  3. Shame on you Saki!!! what happened to moral ethics what kind of a lawyer are you. If Katele was in the U.S.A he would have been asked to step down even before he is pronouced guilt. You can not a public figure if your character is questionable. No wonder you were soliciting for donation in DC using under dog methods by using your email. Be careful I can spill the bean then you will never be an MP.

  4. #6 tom tom spill the bean what are afraid of. Tell the nation about these guys who want to destabilise Zambia.

  5. The point is that an important forum like the ZCID should not be chaired by any prominent politician. Better to look for someone without any association with any of the major political parties at the moment. Katele is root, branch and leaves MMD and FTJ.Always has been. Levy, SAKI do not forget. Sata knows; he has not forgotten. Katele was one of his proteges in the early days of the MMD and they worked closely together right up to the 3rd term saga!

  6. #9 SAKI is always haunted by the ICASA funds he chewed,so birds of the same further flock together. One day his sins will be laid bare like his friend Apostle Glady’s Nyirongo. Its this segregative type of corruption pursuits which makes the whole Zambian political field a fallacy. On others its a govt of laws,on others its a govt of reconciliation ati ya how iya so?

  7. Next time when this MP comes to yr village and asking about who has eaten the meat beat him the hell out him. This is fooling how can an MP travel to a constituency to ask about who ate the meat instead talking about the problems affecting the people. Hypocritics, hyenas. God let this generation come to pass.

  8. #6 Tomtom DC, what is there to keep as a secret? It’s attitudes like yours that perpetuate the kind of politician behaviour we observe today, are you purporting to do Saki a favour by not spilling the so called beans you hold. By so doing, you are already classifying yourself as a, “nichekeleko!!” You would have done well by sending him a personal email, as he had alredy left you his, & not blogging or bragging about it!

  9. Saki is right. Katele Kalumba is innocent until proved guilty. He is therefore to hold public office. The same applies to the old snake, King Cobra and Guy Scott, just in case some people have forgotten. Their forgery case is still before the courts. The two are therefore are also innocent until proved guilty just like Katele. Scott who is facing criminal charges was until recently a PF (Plunderers’ Forum)representative in the ZCID board which voted Katele as the Chairperson. PF was well represented. Scott has been replaced by Given Lubinda. My analysis is that he was replaced due to the criminal charges he is facing and hence demanding that Katele be equally removed from ZCID because the criminal charges he facing. This argument however, does not hold water because if it were to do so then the Old King Cobra and Guy Scott should relinquish their positions in the Plunderers’ Forum until their forgery cases are determined in their favour.

  10. #14 This attitude is what is going to kill our country, its out of principle that people must be seen to be morally upright. If Katele was a true leader, he would have waited for vindication by the courts and this could have have earned the respect and dignity that befits people for public office. In your argument you get entangled with reference to Guy scott, which should have been the best way for Katele to do.This recycling of same people defeats the purpose of democracy, MMD has alot of members to draw from but what we keep seeing are same vultures hovering all over the wildness.Whether guilty or not Katele must excerice his principle as a normal person and take a back seat, if at all he wants his contributions to be heard let him channel them through other clean people.Daka if you are going to support people in public office to be bringing useless jargon to defend their selfish motives then we are heading for serious disaster.Emulate the western democracy not this bush democracy

  11. #14 a’Daka naimwe, we have already stated Saki picked the wrong end of the stick, it seems you want to follow his way, or are you telling us you haven’t read the lead story to this thread & just jumped into the foray for the sake of it becoz you read the proceding posts on it, which attracted your attention & couldn’t resist the twitchiness of your fingers?

It is time in Zambia we followed the example of Chuchu when he was still sane enough to see what was right and upheld right minded principles not to assoc with thugs & thieves, did the right thing by resigning BASED ON PRINCIPLE & SCRUPLES! If Katele was principled enough, he would have withdrawn & advised against the fallacy of allowing this body on which alot of hope rests, to be untainted with bias.

  12. #15 Kuku Mukwai, my dear. I was just stating what the law says. It says that one is innocent until proved guilty. Therefore until that time a person can hold public office. If he/she is convicted then that person can not hold public office. This is good because the state cannot easily stop any person from holding public office on the mere fact that he/she is accused of commiting a crime. In fact, the Old snake, the president of the Plunderers’ Forum, was able to vie for the stop most political office in our country despite facing a criminal charge of forgery. The same law can be applied to Katele as he is also innocent until proved guilty. Unless, Kuku Mukwai, you are advocating that we do away with the presumption of innocence, then your argument will stand. But that will infringe on people’s human rights.

  13. #17 Daka my dearest, what Am saying is about SELF ACTUALISATION’for Katele.Sometimes people must see beyond their noses, this man wants to be a leader and leaders must be lead examplary, we can not ignore the presumption enshrined in law but its the principle for would be public officers to assume,
To be a self-actualizing individual, Mackey suggests you see life as a series of choices “and choose the growth choice each time.”
And this is what Ketele should always bear in mind, put the law aside and let people think like human beings with their brains not their legs.People have said Katele is on the wrong side of the pitch and he can still come back after he is cleared, why is he scared to let go the position?Something fishy with Levy in the pot.One cannot do without the other, this is serious breach of trust to the electorate.Good exapmles are Lord Levy in the UK and Libby in the US.Ubufume bucindika umwine

  14. #19 Kuku if I understand you right, you are wrong to assume Lord Levy & Scott Libby stepped down, They DID NOT! Though if you are saying they are good examples of a serious breach of trust, I do agree with you.

  15. #20 Yes Bauze actually I wanted to expound more, they never stepped down but took a back seat in public posture but for our Katele its like there is nothing wrong with him, as days fly by he even appear more stronger than Chuchu

  16. #19 What you have said borders on morality and I agree with you. Morally Katele should not step dowm as chairman of ZCID because of his court cases. Further, Katele on moral grounds should step down as the Secretary General of his party the MMD because of his criminal cases. On the same moral grounds the King Cobra and Guy Scott should step down from their positions in their party due to the criminal cases of forgery and defamation of the President. But morality is different from the law. morallity dependent is self propagated unless is enacted into law and cannot be enforced outside the law. You touched on the Libby case. Libby was convicted and setenced to a jail term by the court. Legally Bush had the right to save Libby from going to prison and he did just that. The moral ardument is that he should not have done so considering Libby’s close association with Dick Chiney. Law and morality conflicts also where the law allows the imprisonment a breast feeding mother.

  17. Kuku Mukwai, if you where to ask me wnether or not I support Katele, I will say no. But you will ask me whether he is qualified to hold public office, I will say yes, because he is innocent until proved guilty.

  18. #23 My sweetheart I will further enlarge the picture to 12×15′,According to RUFQUA page 2435 sect xxxiv, and I quote” A person’s attitude and bahviour are ,of course, largely a product of moral precepts and spiritual tenets that we assume from infancy.Conequently people may differ in what they consider to be right or wrong, acceptable or otherwise. In turn these differences are the ones that lead to intorelance, misundertsnadings, prejudice, hatred especially when such factors as culture, nationalism and religion extert strong influence.” Primarily humans are not governed by instincts instead largely led by moral, conscience and capacity for love, that is why Katele in any one case needs to re examine himself and decide his destiny.

  19. I dont understand do you need a leader to moderate or chair a meeting??? Are we looking for a leader??? or its the neutrality of the person…and if the said committee chose Katele how and why should we came in as outsiders???these are questions that need answers

  20. The issue is not guilt or innocence, its about morality in leadership. Anyone ACCUSED of such serious crimes of abuse of public resources should stay away from leadership. The idea is to give confidence to people in their institutions. His continued being in leadership could intimiate our justice system, at least thats what many people would think.
    Step aside Katele!

  21. #25 Ba Ndife we are talking of matters which will affect our life time and generation to come. The constitution should stand the test of time. This is the reason why we need no baisness in the whole process.

  22. Easy, tell me does it really matter the caliber of the chair especially that its Katele! beside the charges levelled aganist him? Why do we like complicating issues. Its the quality of material that will be produced that will question not the chair, lets be serious.

  23. #28Ndife, you so what happened to second indaba, some people withdraw immediately Justice Chomba didnt chaír the meeting again.Dont you see something foul here?

  24. kuku have you taken time to ask lusakatimes or Zamnet why they removed the link of this website from the Zamnet website? Can you asked we want an answer we dont need biasness in reporting. Yesterday ZNBC website was deliberately down immediately after FTJ topic appeared on lusakatimes. ZNBC was the first one to publish this FTJ SAGA.

  25. Remember Sata had to fly to livingstone just to help you to win the bu MP and that was 2 days before the elections.Bu lawyer bwasala. We will see you here in livingstone come 2011.Your are finshed as MP my dear lawyer Saki.

  26. Gentlemen, have you heard in Poland the agriculture Minister on monday steped down his post because of corruption charges. He is also leader of the coalition party. He has given the Govt until Friday to concluded their findings or else his part will pull out of governement. So you why in Zambia do you want to keep pipo in public and party position where they are in court. Can you imagine if these person has an influencial position.

  27. #32,Stop repeating messages.
We have read your submission on the london judgement topic about the Polish minister,so why repeat it again on Saki’s topic?

  28. When one stands for/or is in public office there are certain unspoken rules. One of the unfortunate burdens is being required to have a HIGHER level of integrity.Given the contents of his political history the Chiengi Wizard should have declined the position. He was a fugitive from the law at one point and it was widely reported that his captors had to discard their underwear to apprehend him!In all honesty is this a person who you would entrust with such responsibility. With regard to his ZCID position i question the appointing authority on the “suitability” of his selection.I question not his ability! In public life, a conviction is not necessary to preclude you from certain activities and responsibilities. This is why public office is the preserve of few as many of us have skeletons or even cemeteries in our closets.A leader who is subject to constant public ridicule or suspicion should have the PERSONAL decency to step aside to add credibility to existing leadership.

  29. #35 Ba LPM needs another baptism, that one which converted him from being a Jehovas witness to a normal christian has been diluted by the devil, now he needs one which is by fire to become a nomal citizen. He has foretold us how irrelevant he will after 2011, so to me what he does now , he is not bothered at all.

  30. baKuKu(36),LPM is very much bothered about his “irrelevancy” after his term ends!He intends to leave a legacy and not spend the rest of his days in and out of court. That is the difference between him and the dubiously educated FTJ….forward thinking! There is life after presidency contrary to common African belief.LPM was not a pauper before PLOT 1,he was well respected within the law fraternity and he envisages a life befitting of an ex-President!!By the way, Jehovas witnesses are normal christians too.As citizens, we will hold him accountable for his term in office but so far he has proved much better than the chaps that preceeded him.You will recall he did resign the vice presidency on grounds of corruption!!!What scares me is who will take over and not who we have now!!

  31. #37 Pundit Have you read what the Pope said yesterday he has abashed other christians he say on catholics are rightful of God. These has anonyed protestants what have got to say. I want to know because I have moved away from dinomination association but to believe in Jahwe. By the way the is a new book written by Chrispother Hitchens God is not Great: The case against Religion. Read it.

  32. Bane here is a song dedicate to Sakwiba. There was a man far way his name was call Saki, He went to King Cobra and asked him how many public officers have shared the elephant meat, because I want to inform Kalumba how can go hunting ourselves. Oh my dear Kalumba show the way me oh my dear Kalumba show me the way. Kalumba answered him and said to him go back to Simoonga Village ask the villagers because they how to hunt.Oh my dear Kalumba show me the way Oh my dear Kalumba show me the way.

  33. #Ba Kuku mulishani mwematimu, nga Ba Jose malikwi. I have missed so much u guys. I went to kwa aye mukuca litapi, apparent there was no internet cafe in the fishing camps. Ngoulu Satana mushibila insala afumakwi #37, who is scared of the next president to take over. Doesnt he know that my mudala are the next president. How can he be scared of you, who is so humble and God fearing person. He should be scared of in what state Chuchu will leave the country in 4 yrs time. And you #38 and yr fellow Satanist Hitchens stop, right there, to blaspheming against God. God is Great and mighty and will remain Great whether you believe or not.

  34. #AM natemwa sana , finally you are back , welcome my dear, ala issue ya ba Shikulu ba FTJ nakabili nayimya amagedon, wacita bwino ukwasuka aba bankosa mitwe. That is why Jesus was saying ” You brood of vipers who warned you to run from the wrath to come?” This blog has a buch of them.Actually we need to have a meeting pa Kulima Tower pa weekend .Its important we update fellow kaponyas on how mongu is doing.Welcome AM will continue later , naya ku ma order ku minsenga ku chingola.

  35. OK Ba Kuku, bye 4 now, but I want u to update me pafya ba Bodi ba Zesikolo, ati mulibantanka, ala chawama sana, nakalimo mufi, because we have suffered at the hands of kabokes. Ba Jose which part of the Zedi are u? Ala namusambishako naine ukufuma pa intaciti. Am making monis bakamba, and very soon I will get a second van. I want by 2011 to just concentrate on campaigning for Kuku’s presidency. Thnks to yr wise words put across this blog and I urge those with ears to hear and act upon like I just did. Come 2011 (when Chuchu & his millions go), I will be “from Kaponya to the Minister of something”.

  36. OK Ba Kuku, bye 4 now, but I want u to update me pafya ba Bodi ba Zesikolo, ati Balibantanka, ala chawama sana, nakalimo mufi, because we have suffered at the hands of kabokes. 37. AM I know you had problems kwaHae your bow joint talabulo. So mwaice watch kuku and I we have teamed up. If you want to take a ministerial you have to come through like Jesus said or else you you remain Kaponya. When I refered to Hitchens its not that I follow him he is in line with Rushdies satanics verses they are the one confusion the world. People should be aware where such forces are coming from. We talk facts. I know you are supporting FTJ but he is a small Goliata. We shall conquer him come Friday 13th he will see red. Dont follow blindly because you follow in a ditch and all your dreams shall perish. Mr. Kafupi has given us too much problem we want this to end it.

  38. Mutemba Nchito and the Sangwa,s have made alot of money from the task force and Chluba case.My good lawyer Sakiba also wants to make something like the boys from the so called inter party Katele Kalumba issue and at the same time the man has knows that they will be a top job at the inter party thing to be headed by a lwayer . It is because of this that he thinks he get the chairmanship. Kuku answer this for me
How many houses or shoping centers has LPM put up since he coming to power? Is kafupi case development?
What this people are doing is to make we the Zambia’s more poor such that you can not fly out of the country to go and look for jobs .Umwana ashenda atashanina ukunaya and thisis the thing about Zambia. Go to other countries and see how people fly out of there conntry. In Zambia it is the presindent and his men only. Our chlfren need to see what is going on in other conntries
. To day, schildren don’t even know how a lion at mundawanga look like. We need land for farming

  39. Opposition politicians in Zambia are a total disgrace.Just recall before the September 2006 elections they were crawling to State House for favours in order to support PLM and a lot more were quiting their parties for the MMD, a trend which continued after the election and is sure to repeat itself before the next election. Now we hear Saki and Nevers are “reconciling” with PLM! Did they do anything wrong to seek reconciliation? I thought only dogs go back to their vomit but I may be wrong. “Integrity is not doing what is easy or popular but is doing what is right”. I wish we had more leaders like General Miyanda, a trully principled nationalist who refused to be cheated by PLM and his agents.

  40. Ba Saki you have become an old bloom, old blooms don’t sweep nicely, ekupwa kwenu chapwa tamwaka winepo amaelections nomba. Nako ifitile for you to be forget once a gud lawyer but now useless

  41. 2corinth 12:7 please read. katele one case has been going fo five years with no end in site.? heard music by katele as kage on radio.anyone with copy? the chienge wizard has strong nerve. give him sum credit, others collapse.
