Sinazongwe UPND executive resigns to join Sikota’s ULP

Share

The entire Sinazongwe United Party for National Development (UPND) executive has resigned from the party.

Sinazongwe UPND Chairlady Malala Muchimba said the entire executive has since joined the United Liberal Party (ULP)  that has the late Anderson Mazoka’s vision.

Muchimba announced the resignation from UPND following the meeting that was held in
Maamba Township in Sinazongwe district.

She said the souring relationship with the UPND leadership in the district came as a
result of  supporting the independent candidate Richwell Siamunene during the 2006
tripartite elections.

“We tried to reason with the party’s leadership to address our differences  but they
failed to listen to us hence we feel we can not work with them.”

Muchimba said the executive opposed the imposition of Rapheal Muyunda as their
aspiring candidate for the position of Member of Parliament because he failed to
deliver during his previous term of office.

“The executive committee has reached a stage were we can not work with the current
leadership in UPND because it has lost direction and the vision of the late Mazoka,”

She said the district officials, branch officials, and section leaders have all
resigned from the party.

Malala explained that the UPND leadership upon knowing that they were to hold a
meeting to announce their resignation, rushed to the press to announce that they had
been expelled from the party.

“The position at present is that we were not expelled but we decided to resign on
our own.” Muchimba said.

However, the former Sinazongwe Chairlady said she has not joined any political party
and she would remain non-partisan.

The Sinazongwe UPND executive committee led by Simon Siatwiinda was elected in on 13 January 2004.

  1. Could Saki have just continued within UPND…keep the party together. Was he so desparate for party presidency at all costs??I would have thought the achievement of the party ideals was superior to personal ambitions.maybe i’m too much of an idealist!!

  2. zambian politics, really a circus. u differ over trival matters u start throwing stones in a glass house. oposition parties are destroying themselves and giving the mmd another mandate and will form the next governmnt if these parties dont wake up.

  3. This is a circus i tell you these are the guys you think will be committed to Zambian people let us think twice?????

  4. I dont agree with you guys i dont think any one of us would agree to second someone in our firm after acting in the Position.Especially when you realise you have all the experience and qualifications….only that one will debate and say Saki really is not a Politician but how many leaders are President and yet not Politicians??? an example i can give is the new Prime minister of the UK G Brown his not a Politician. The problem is we are not real, as to whether Saki would have held the party firmly is a matter of debate but as to allow a person who was in the background taking over i dont really think anyone can accept that . Ask SATA when Levy was made President of MMD.
