Zambia U23-Senegal U23 Preview

Share

Group B of the Olympic games qualifiers arrives at the half-way point with leaders Zambia Under-23 team hoping to stay ahead of the chasing pack for a third successive match when they host Senegal Under-23 at Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka.

Zambia are on maximum six points from their opening two Group B games and victory today would put Peter Kaumba’s team as the team to beat from Group B.

However Kaumba will be missing two key players on Saturday against winless Senegal who have also yet to score a goal in their Group B games.

Missing are Konkola Blades striker Felix Nsunzu suspended while Given Singuluma of Bay United of South Africa has flight connection problems from his Port Elizabeth base who have scored five and two goals respectively.

Kaumba has disclosed that he has good cover for the missing duo in the trio of Forest Rangers striker Christopher Musonda, Reuben Tembo of Green Buffaloes and Nakambala Leopards attacker Signs Chibambo.

Chibambo proved his worth with a goal last month in the Under-23 teams 2-1 come-from-behind-win over Mali on August 22.

The availability of former Under-20 winger Clifford Mulenga is also a boost to Kaumba’s team who should add an extra dimension to their attack from the left of midfield.

Kaumba will also welcome back midfielder Stophira Nsunzu who missed the opening two Group B games against Ivory Coast and Mali due to Under-20 World Cup duty in Canada last July.

And in the other Group B game taking place this weekend, second placed Ivory Coast on three points host third from bottom Mali in Abidjan.

Ivory Coast will be hoping for another win after collecting their first points in August with that home win over Senegal to help stay in touch with leaders Zambia.

  1. To FAZ, Ben Bumfuchile will be at the Africa cup in Ghana with Namibia, scores from the game between Ethopia and Namibia ended Ethopia 2 – 3 Namibia. So you forced a guy out and he has delivered across the border with a team of no pedigree. Congrats Namibia.

  2. ZAMBIA IS IN TROUBLE

Uganda now pose a serious threat to Zambis’s chances of qualification. They beat Niger by three goals to one. This means they now have 11 points and if Zambia fail to win tomorrow then they along with Sudan or Tunisia will take one of the three best runner up spots. Zambia though does not have to score an avalanche of goals to qualify. Even a one nil scoreline should do. We have a better goal difference than Uganda.

  5. Going by the results of the games played today, Zambia’s chances of qualifying for Ghana 2008 ANC have been ‘given’ a slight boost and now depend on 1. Eritrea losing or drawing to Swaziland, and 2. Zambia beating South Africca – a 1-0 wind will be enough. We can largely thanks to Mozambique for beating Tanzania in Dar for this slim chance. In the event that Zambia win and Eritrea loses, Zambia will go through together with Uganda, and Sudan as the three best second placed teams in the group of 4. In the event that both Zambia and Eritrea win their respective games tomorrow, Zambia still go through on a better goal aggregate.

So IT’S GO ZAMBIA GO! WE CAN WIN IS RSA

  6. Here is a list of possible qualifiers for Ghana 2008 ANC as I see them after today’s qualifiers.

    1. Ghana (Host)

    Group Winners

    1. Ivory Coast (Group 1)
    2. Egypt (Group 2)
    3. Nigeria (Group 3)
    4. Tunisia (Group 4)
    5. Cameroon (Group 5)
    6. Angola (Group 6)
    7. Senegal (Group 7)
    8. Gambia or Algeria (Group 8). I would put my money on Gambia
    9. Mali or Togo (Group 9). Togo may go through on a better goal average. Do not bet on this game.
    10. Namibia (Group 10). Well done Ben
    11. South Africa (Group 11). I give the game to Zambia with a 1 nil score line. It’s mother Zambia were else can my loyalty lie?
    12. Morocco (Group 12)

Best Runner’ UP from Groups of 4

    1. Uganda (Group 3)
    2. Sudan (Group 4)
    3. Zambia (Group 11) or Eritrea (Group 6) should Zambia fail to win

  7. we zambian have a problem, when did you bit south africa in crucial games. you think before you say. i support under 23 at least they can qualify not the national team.

  8. Admore, you might have a problem but I don’t. When it comes to supporting my Country, I will do so to the last minute or whistle(if you want). I will always go believing we can do something until the last minute of added time. If you are governed by past event, I am not. I am ALWAYS optimistic and believe the future will have something positive. That is how I have lived through life and I always wish the very best for my COUNTRY. I hope there are many more Zambians who always have a positive attitude.

    I feel sorry for Admore!

Bro i admire your courage and positive thinking, but come off it Bro ,zambia has NO chance what so ever of beating bafana bafana, our current national team sucks so much that we even fail to beat chad at home .i wish them all the best though i know we losing on sunday.
Feed with them u23 results pipo.

  10. Iwe Benard, I will Meleki to come and give you 6 strokes across you know what after the game – na mukazi wako bonse.

  11. What is the result in Lusaka? Zambia and Senegal U 23?Thumbs up to Ben for the Job well done in Namibia? But the onus is on Patrick Phiri and the Big boys.Go Zambia and prove your self.I bet my $$$$$ on my Lovely ZED.

  12. Someone needs to tell the boys not to panic. They do not need to score five goals. Or they need is one and keep a clean sheet. A 2-1 win will see us top the group on head to head record. A win by one goal will see us qualify as one og the best runner ups. Who knows maybe a draw may be enough because of Tanzania’s loss.

  13. I think the U23 result was decent. I don’t exactly know what the table looks like but i think Zambia has a good chance to qualify for the Olympics. I’m hoping that the senior team will come away with 3 points from South Africa. If a win is not possible, then look for mathematical chances…until then…just win! Doesn’t have to be a large margin as mentioned.

  14. Benard Phiri and Admore, it’s 3-0 in favour of Zambia with 30 minutes of play in the first half. Learn to believe in your country.

  15. I was wrong after all, it’s Zambia that qualifies as Group 11 leader. South Africa may still go through as a best runners up but have to wait for the result from the Swaziland/Eritrea game.

  16. Chanda did you watch the game? Zambia has massively talented players, Katongo really is a class act. Joe Musonda played well, as did Mweene and Billy Mwanza. The South Africans were stunned, there were points when it was one way traffic.

I just feel that if you’ve been away from Zedd in a while, or haven’t seen a Zambia game on Tv recently, you can’t say the team sucks. When I”m at home you”ll always find me at Nkoloma in Lusaka or Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola watching the talent in our local league

  17. Hey # 30, you are referring to a wrong person. It was your brother Bernard Phiri who said the team sucks. I havenot seen the Zambian team at play for some time but regardless, I will continue to support them BECAUSE THEY ARE ZAMBIANS LIKE ME!! I DON’T HAVE TO SEE THEM, I ONLY NEED TO KNOW THAT THEY PLAY FOR AND REPRESENT MY COUNTRY – THAT IS ENOUGH FOR ME.

  18. Ati bwa,who won the recent gamd between Zambia and Mali? This goes to any Zambian that has the right infor, doesn’t matter which place you are as long you got Zambian passport.
