Fans mob Christopher Katongo

Share

Christopher Katongo, the man who ‘destroyed’ South Africa and shocked their coach, Brazillian Carlos Parreira with a hat-trick was mobbed by fans as he arrived into the country.

There was confusion as he disembarked from a plane, Monday night at Lusaka International Airport, and police had to step in, and form a condon around him, to keep fans at bay.

Soccer fans who had camped at Lusaka International airport to welcome the national soccer team crossed the security point in bid to touch or catch a glimpse of Katongo.

But quick action by the security saved the situation.

Katongo was whisked away by police but journalists and soccer fans pursued him relentlessly.

This forced police to shelter him, in the safety of a police post.

Speaking to ZNBC, Katongo described Zambia’s Victory against South Africa as a very important one, for the Country.

He said the victory was a gift for Zambia and the team was glad to have lifted the national flag higher.

Katongo said the team was confident of success and is looking forward to the African cup of nations but has urged Zambians to support the players, coaches and FAZ.

The national skipper who scored a hat-trick won R10,000 as player of the match.

Delegation leader, Hensel Chitembeya praised the team for its successful outing in South Africa.

Katongo arrived with six other local players.

Meanwhile, national team coach Patrick Phiri is in Germany to attend a refresher course. His contract with FAZ as national team coach expires in December this year.

  1. Katongo is wanted by the police in SA to help with investigations regarding bafana’s dismal performance. He is being questioned over allegations that he is the mastermind behind the total anhilation of Bafana Banyana.

If seen please report to Manchester United for a possible move to Old Trafford so as to evade the SA police who may want to avenge the demolition which Katongo inflicted on their side.

  2. It was sweet victory. Come Ghana 2008, so called giants will be destroyed by the Tsunami(Chris Katongo). SA fans can not believe what hit them on Sunday. Chris is now the household name in SA.

  3. I deslike the English. Katongo should play in Seria A or LaLiga. Mbesuma should follow suit once he regains form. It would be nice to see Katongo playing for Inter Milan.

  4. Boys European soccer is very competitive. Ask Sinkala or Sichone they tell you. Its business. Many African players have failed in Europeans top clubs because of hardness the ligas are associated. A few have managed. If Kalu was always on the bench at PSV, Abide Pele of Ghana had it hard too at many clubs. I dont think it will be wise to rush C.Katongo for Laliga or Premier, he will benched as a result his performance will dwindle. The other problem in Europe is winter you have to play games until before Xmas and the leagues start in Febraury or end of January these are hard times for Africans. Ask Charles Musonda he will tell you how difficult to adapt the weather there. What is important is practice and featuring so I dont think Mbesuma would make it as you suggest to joing a Spanish side. Let him gain eperience in Turkey and when gets matured he can move on.

  5. #5 Easy. You are spot on. Mbesuma rushed into signing with Pompey, he should have gained more exposure at Chiefs. Even Katongo’s move was hurried. I think they have the talent enough to make it in Europe, but they musn’t let the prospect of money and glamorous leagues get to their heads. Strikers peak around their mid-to-late twenties in my view, the ones who peak at a younger age are special cases [e.g. Wayne Rooney].
I’m of the opinion that our lads can get into top leagues by performing in the big games like Africa Cup which is teeming with scouts from Europe. They should realize that AFCON is a chance and showcase their talents and thus make a big career move. That will have a knock-on effect for our national team; the more players we have playing top-flight football, the more we have a chance of lifting major silverware in future. Team building starts now, I think we have a good chance to qualify in WC 2010.

Hope I’m clear and havent contradicted myself.

  6. Let us not rush to recruit an expatriate coach. PP should be in charge at AFCON 2008. The new coach should brought in later to prepare for 2010. I agree with #7, rushing players to play for big European teams is harmful. I hope Mbesuma will regain his form in Turkey.

  7. The South Africans are too arrogant. They are now trying to come up with the excuse of saying they lost because they were unaware of caf’s head to head rule. I also find it very disheartening to hear that Mark Gleeson , a south african journalist, said that he was surprised that Bafana could lose at home to a team of Zambia’s calibre. He said this in an interview with a Ugandan journalist. That arrogance is what got them beaten in the first place.

THERE could have been foul-play in the football match between Zambia and South Africa. South Africa’s Bafana-Bafana probably decided that Zambia beats them so as to make it difficult for the Uganda Cranes to qualify for the Nations Cup finals.

This is probably why Kaizer’s Club Chiefs were until Wednesday insisting that Uganda’s star David Obua was unfit to play in the Uganda vs Niger match.

Obua was quoted to have said: “They (Kaizer chiefs) are not convinced that I am ready (healed) and want me to stay. But if I am not released by Wednesday (three days to the game), then I will forcefully come on Thursday because for me, the Niger match will be the biggest in my football career.”

This showed that Obua’s South Africa-based club (Kaizer Chiefs) was not prepared to have Obua play for his country because he posed a big threat to their scheme.

Why were Obua’s bosses insisting that he had not yet healed when he persistently said his thigh injuries had healed and he was fit for his nation’s international duty?

This raises suspicion that there was conspiracy between Bafana-Bafana and Zambia that led to the 1-3 score. For South Africa to be walloped by Zambia at home is unbelievable.

Another unpleasant scenario was the controversial penalty the Senegalese referee awarded to Bafana-Bafana denied Uganda entrance to the pervious Nations Cup finals. A second incident was when Cranes’ goal was cancelled in a first leg with The Eagles in Nigeria.

Last month, Uganda’s national coach Csaba appealed to the Confederation of African Football Association (CAF) to fix the Uganda Cranes’ qualifier against Niger on the same day with that between South Africa and Zambia, but was not taken into account.

Csaba might have smelt the rat long before and indeed it happened.

Cranes players also stand to blame for squandering chances. They messed us up in the first 45 minutes when they missed targets inside the net. Players like Massa fired three open shots over the crossbar to squander Cranes chance of qualifying straight away. Imagine what the situation would be had the first penalty kick gone outside!

The Saturday match should be a lesson to the Cranes to sharpen their attacking force and look for goals early.

  10. Sour grapes from the Ugandans, wish them all the best. We used to dub in those theories in the 80s and they don’t work. Why didn’t they win 10-0 if they were that good. We beat SA clean and if you watched the match, there is no way you could have doctored that and there are others teams who were playing after SA vs Zambia and had they won SA by a decent margin SA would have been out. This is utter rubbish from Uganda, and those witch craft theories will never improve their football. They should just take the miss-out on the chin and move on.

  11. THESE UGANDANS THINK THEY ARE SPECIAL. WE DONT EVEN CARE ABOUT THEM. WHY WOULD WE WORK TOGETHER WITH SA TO ELIMINATE THEM. THEY MUST STOP PUBLISHING THESE FOOLISH STORIES. THEIR NATIONAL TEAM IS CRAP. NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN WATCHING UGANDA. NO ONE CARES ABOUT THEM. WHY ARE THEY MAKING NOISE?

  12. #10 Yes Billy-SA
It pains me. These guys can be so stupid as to think that we can go so low as to “fix” a match.
    What a Joke

  13. it is easy to bribe someone to lose….but bribing Patrick Phiri and his boys to win ??? The things newspapers write to increase readership is amazing !!

  14. Bakashala baleli ngatwaya ku Ghana.

Let them cry. The fact is that we have qualified and if South Africa did not about the head to head analysis then its their own negligence and we can not be held responsible for that. Ignorance is no defence principle applies here. South Africa is not the first nor the last team we have beaten like that. Who can forget the 4-0 humiliation we handed to Cameroon at indepence stadium in 1985.

They will cry and accuse us of all of sorts of consipiracy but fact is we are going to Ghana to compete and not be spectators.

Bring all African teams and show the one that does not respect Zambia.

Mark Gleeson is not an authority in football. He is one of those who have taken advantage of the fact that South Africans are scantly informed and if he were Zambia he would have faced tough competition in his job.

How could bafana give us the and risk their own qualification? Shame on Gleeson, South Africans and Ugandans and all who share their views

  15. Mark Gleeson better be careful with his statements. What did he mean when he said a team of Zambia’s calibre. Who are the Cosafa Champions? Who finished bottom of Group C at the 2006 nations cup? These are the questions he needs to ask himself. By the way there league is crap. How can a striker leave halfway and be top goal scorer? How can one man score 35 goals?SA has no reputation they just use their money to force themselves on the football world.

  16. We should even ignore them. They will say all sorts of things because they are hurting after we caused a soccer mayhem during “Operation Newlands”.

Uganda is a war ravaged country and not a soccer country and one fails to understand why they had to rely on the abilities of South Africa to beat us for them to qualify. It exposes their shallow minedeness. They needed to do the job of qualifying themselves. We do not need favours from anyone especially in soccer. We have what it takes to become world beaters especially if we can organise ourselves

Viva le Zambie. Le caravan passe lache abouye (loosely translated as the caravan is passing with treasures the dogs are barking).

We do not play, we are good

  17. Gleeson is jealous. He wishes he was Zambian. We beat Angola (a more formidable side) to win the COSAFA. SA must understand that we are the region kings despite our meagre resources and the level we reached we can come with 3 equally good national teams and beat nay team.

Remember we are the reining kings of both Southern (COSAFA),East and Central (CECAFA)Africa but people still have guts to doubt our abilities. Shame

  18. I agree# 21. We can form three teams and damage SA.Does Gleeson know that Zambia went to the FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP. That is not a joke. The U-23 God willing will qualify for the Olympics. He needs to be more repectful with his statements. By the way Uruguay will further damage them. This is a team that boasts of Inter Milan’s Recoba. Also one of the best goalkeepers in Seria A Fabio Carini. Uruguay will hammer them. Parrera will resign.

  19. The arrogance of the South Africans amazes me. What calibre are they talking about? In the past 24 months we have beaten them twice and lost narrowly once. Our agrregate score in that period is 4-2. They have no strike force to speak of. Calibre? Dennis ‘chesa mpama’ Lota, Collins ‘Ntofotofo’ Mbesuma, Chris ‘Tsunami’ Katongo, and Isaac Chansa have all shined in their weak league. That is calibre to me. Swine.

  20. Yes ba Anonylmous No 19 – you hit the nail on the head.
Gleeson can not match knowledge of our Ponga or even Matimba and Nsama. So he should just swallow his pride.
If the south africans continue at this rate, we will make sure that CAN 2006 is repeated during the World Cup in 2010. it will be the worst showing by a host nation. Ati ba Benni.

  21. Another sad news amidst zambia’s celebration of qualifying for AFCON 2008, Ian portertified, the coach who guided zambia to the 1994 finals passed on. May his soul rest in Peace.

In another development the zambian army has promoted katongo as Seargeant. Niba Bwana manje ba Katongo after putting 3 past the highly overated, but the non performing small boys.

  22. Cup hero Porterfield dies at 61

Sunderland legend Ian Porterfield has died, aged 61.
Porterfield, who scored the Black Cats’ winning goal against Leeds United in the 1973 FA Cup final, had been suffering from cancer.
Born in Dunfermline, Porterfield also enjoyed a successful management career with Rotherham, Sheffield United, Aberdeen, Reading and Chelsea.
He went on to coach in Korea and took charge of several national teams, and his final job was as boss of Armenia.

Porterfield was in charge of his side for their superb 1-1 draw against Portugal in Yerevan on 22 August which left Luiz Felipe Scolari’s superstars facing a fight to qualify for the European Championship finals in Austria and Switzerland next summer.
Porterfield’s widow Glenda said: “He may have been a football man all his life, but I know him best as a wonderful human being who was liked by everyone he came in contact with.

  23. My condolences to the Porterfield family on such a loss.I remember the song he loved to sing in the Chipolopolo dressing ‘Pompamo ichimwela tubalange fibola wemwana’ MHSRIP.

  24. Soccer fans,I wish to bring to your attention that Gleeson`s comments is simply based on the rivalry between Zambia and Bafana.Whatever we do, such a person will never be convinced that ZED is better than Bafana. When Ghana beat Bafana 2-0 to qualify to the 2006 WC,Gleeson just accepted that loss and tried to move on but not with Zambia beating BB.Take an example of Kalampa vs Power, even if Kalampa is in division one their fans believe they`re better than Power and such an argument can go on for a very long time. It`s the same everywhere,Ghana vs Nigeria,Chiefs vs Pirates(SA),Real vs Bacelona(SPAIN),Riverplate vs Boca(Argentina),Man U vs Man City,Spurs vs Arsenal,Newcastle vs Sunderland(England)Rangers vs Celtic(Scotland) and the list goes on.My point is that we just need to focus on building on such success.I could have loved it if we would have scored an extra goal or didn`t conceed so that BB failed to qualify and Gleeson wouldn`t have had a chance to go with BB to GHANA AFCON 2008.

  25. The Zambian army has promoted Chipolopolo captain Christopher Katongo to sergeant in honour of the hat-trick that he scored against South Africa on Sunday.

The midfielder’s three goals helped the Chipolopolo beat South Africa 3-1 on Sunday a result that saw Zambia qulaify for the African Cup of Nations finals in Ghana in January.

Katongo’s new rank was conferred on him at Lusaka¿s Arackan barracks on Tuesday.

“I’m very happy, I want to thank the army for recognising my efforts,” he shortly before returning to Denmark where he plays for first division side Brondby.

“I’ll continue working hard and do Zambia proud.”

Zambia Army spokesperson Colonel Dan Chambaila told BBC Sport. “We want to encourage our sportsmen and women.

“The commander felt that as a way of congratulating Katongo, he should be promoted, he has done us proud.

“Even as he plays his club football in Denmark, we want to assure him that he will be welcomed back in the army when he returns.BBC

  26. Here is what the Kampala Monitor has continued to publish about our deserved Zambian Victory with Katongo ‘s hat-trick.
“South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, lay down, legs spread wide for diminutive Zambian forward Chris Katongo to pump in three goals inside the opening twenty minutes.

It is the most blatant form of match fixing most fans have ever witnessed.

Even local fans in Cape Town could not comprehend a 0-3 half-time score.”

  27. Here is what Bafana Bafana ‘s pre match opinion poll.

    Bafana Bafana to win 65.34%
    Draw 7.98%
    Zambia to win 26.68%

  28. Patrick Phiri has done it in style and another zambian has qualified Namibia to the Africa cup. Isn’t that something? We have all the resources but we are not confident of ourselves. These guys are owesome!

  29. Condolences to the Porterfield family. I remember watching the 1994 cup final in London as a boy aged 7. It really was a gallant effort after the ’93 Gabon tragedy. Porterfield is a Zambian hero.

  30. I have never seen such praises for a Zambian player like the SABC has done on Chris Katongo. On SABC 1 Soccer zone program he got the spot of moments of brilliance and Mr McCarthy got the Moemish of the week.Speculation is rife that Chris Katongo came to finish off where he left of in the league

  31. South Africans are still ‘living’ in 1996 when they won the AFCON 1996. In reality they finished. You will see tonight when they play Uruguay. Come month end Botswana will eliminate them from the COSAFA cup. May be that is when they will wake up from their 1996 slumber. Ignore these rubbish utterances by likes of Gleeson. Real SA fans are saluting us here in SA. I was also worried by level of ignorance by SA journalists concerning the head to head rule especially that they will be hosting the 2010 WC. Most of them only knew on Monday that Zambia qualified as group leaders.

  32. Guys we all know these are ‘sour grapes’ from South Africa.Let them dwell in Dream land.Their soccer has gone down thats a Fact.Talk about 1996-2002 they had a strong team, not now.We also have gone through a bad patch in the past but in the last 3 years or so our soccer has improved.
Benny McCarthy kept telling Billy Mwanza that i earn Thousands of Pounds a week and you earn peanuts, this is after an interwiew in SA’s weekly Soccer Laduuuma newspaper. What arrogance i believe McCarthy has alot to learn from guys like S.Etoo,D.Drogba and his own country man L.Radebe who are bigger names in football. You will never hear this kind of crap from these guys.Even when a player has given you a rough time you don’t frustrate them by telling them i earn more than you.Billy behaved like a proffessional Benny wanted the guy to be sent off.

  33. #44. Sibs-RSA
    That’s very childish of McCarthy.

This is a sure manifestation of frustration and inferiority complex of alarming levels!!!!

  34. BENNI TOLD ME I EARN PEANUTS.(Billy Mwanza)
“We wanted to qualify at all costs.I think Bafana had a better second half because they were no where in the first half.As for my ‘Show’ with Benni,i think he was just frustrated that he wasn’t getting as many chances as he had liked. The coach told me to keep a close eye on Benni and that’s exactly what i did because i followed him him all the way. That seemed to irritate and frustrate him.He kept swearing at me,telling me i was earning peanuts while he was getting thousands of pounds every week,so i was no match for him.I simply told him to 4get about the money and focus on the game and so he was very pissed off and i enjoyed it because it meant i was doing something right against him.Look Benni is a world-class player,no doubt about that, but i was very happy to have frustrated him so much and it meant alot to me.It was good to see him back for Bafana team after a long time and he marked his return with a goal, and on the losing side.

  35. I watched Uganda play Tanzania “Taifa Stars” in Dar-es-salaam in the friendly match on 1st September 2007. Uganda lost 1-0. This is was the inaugral match for the ultra-modern Chinese-built National Stadium. The cranes front-line was very brunt and equally aimless.

Please Ugandans keep quiet. Zambia has qualified fairly because we (Zambians) are not known for match-fixing.

We never bought our way into 1974 & 1994 CAN finals. The record is in black & white. Many times we have won silver & bronze at CAN finals. Talk about your record at CAN finals so that we compare.

    Ba Zambia Chipolopolo!

  39. Dont Ugandans think. There doesn’t seem to be any logic in their fixing theory and any editor who has been to school could not have allowed such crap to be published in his newspaper. For what reason would South Africa and Zambia want Uganda out of the Nations Cup? How would South Africa ensured qualification yet losing the top spot to Zambia. For any thinking coach or football adminstrator losing would be a risky proposition because there are 11 other groups and these have runners up vying for the same slots. Unless Ugandans are saying South Africa was ready to risk qualification to the finals so that Uganda could fail to qualify. I normally have a lot of respect for Ugandan journalism-I thought it was better that Zambia’s but I can see they are both crap.

  40. Chimwemwe you are right. The South Africans have generally been good natured to the Zambians over the loss. Their media and people in general have been praising Chipolopolo. Its only the odd Mark Gleesons who are sulking. The rest have been praising Chris Katongo and even Mbesuma recalling their goal scoring prowess in the PSL league and saying their calibre cannot be matched in South Africa. The media was of course confused until Monday about what the loss meant because they all along they thought they had already qualified for the finals before the Sunday game and that Zambia was looking for the runners-up position. Supersport had the final table saying South Africa was first and Zambia second despite the loss. SABC was saying the same. Of course there is no excuse for a seasoned journalist to make such blunders in communication. Reporters are supposed to know their subject well before they open their mouths to the world. All that needed was checking the CAF/FIFA rules.

  41. Hey Power2thePeople # 36, I didn’t know Katongo is a very small (diminutive) person. I have always thought he is of average height.

  42. Bafana Bafana are a finished lot. Came bottom of the group at the AFCON 2006 and yet they want to be better….. what a shame. I hope we will be in the same group for 2010 combined AFCON and World cup qualification where SA will only be fighting for AFCON 2010 qualification, we shall be at an advantage, cause when and not if we win the group, SA will still qualify for the world cup as hosts and fail to qualify for the AFCON 2010 as number 5/6.

  43. #53.Spot on.These guys claim to be better and yet the blundered in terms of knowing the rules of qualification.Things changed about 2 or 3 years ago yet the have never heard of Head to Head count. My word!Real Madrid won the league on Head to Head and Angola went to the World cup under the same at the expense of Nigeria. All the T.v stations and a majority of their big papers were confused.I actually rang to one Radio sports show and told them you guys were confusing people that you had toped the group.
If you look at the guys at Weekly Post and Zambia Daily-Mail the had their facts right.Even the Bafana Bafana assistant coach Pitso Musimane who’s in Germany Cologne for a coaching course wrote in his weekly column to the Sunday Times Newspapers that Zambia needed to score hat full of goals to go top.My guess is this guy is doing the same course P.P went for.

  45. SA Under 23 Loses to Ghana
    08 September 2007

The South African National under 23 team’s chances of qualifying for Beijing 2008 Olympics took a serious knock this afternoon following a 3-1 loss to Ghana. Two first half goals by striker Prince Tagoa restored Ghana’s quest for Olympics qualification.

South Africa’s midfielder Lance Davids pulled one back for the home side on the 87th minute, but it was case of too little too late as the Ghanaians collected maximum points and three goals to occupy the second spot behind Nigeria, who are currently topping the group with four points. South Africa is lying third on the group with one point following the withdrawal of Ethiopia.

  46. Coagulations you qualified!!! But remember

“justice must not only be done, it must be seen to have been done”

Whoever changed the SA Vs Zambia Match, to be played 24 hrs after the Uganda Vs Niger one, gave birth to the conspiracy theory, perhaps its CAF to blame here. But sure, we can never rule out conspiracy, given the fact that the scores were just enough to qualify both Zambia and SA. You can talk of a successful soccer history but this time, you cannot convince a person of balanced mind that there was no conspiracy. Uganda never needed help from any country to qualify, but we also expected other countries to compete fairly. Africa football will never develop on match fixing and whoever condones it is an enemy to all of us.

  47. I have never come across people who are dull like SAs.
Most of them think SA is not part of Africa and just ask them where Zambia is located……..you will be shocked.

  48. Shame upon you #64 and your Uganda Cranes. You dont even rememeber the last time you played in AFCON.Let us face the realities of the Game. Uganda should just start preparing for AFCON 2010.

  49. #64 If Uganda failed to qualify just wait for 2010. In Zambia we do not believe in match fixing. SA is our number 1 rival as far as soccer is concerned and you fixing theory wont work. Next time learn to win all your qualifying matches and spare us from such unfounded allegations. Good luck for Uganda next time…

  50. #64 Are you doubting Zambia’s pedigree? Dont you know that zambai is the reigning Cosafa, cecafa champions? I think if you have nothing to say, don’t say it on this blog. You are just exposing your ignorance of southern african soccer rivalry. This is not the first time that zambia has beaten South Africa, infact in the past thirty months, Zanbia has beaten South Africa three times – 1- Cosafa semi final In Mafikeng 2005, AFCON 2006 and now. What evedence do you have that the match was fixed? Why did your Uganda not score 4 goals. Its not like Uganda whereby you buy a referee to award your team some dubious penalties against Nigeria, nay. Our boys Know South African players’ weaknesses in and out since most of them play and have played in South Africa. So what are you barking about? Please leave this blog because you are a voyeur!

  51. # 46 I think i should buy the copy of Laduma One thing for sure is that Benni is an arrogant and proud person and that in itself will lead him to his downfall. Billy did an excellent job and has a bright future way ahead of him, since he is still younger than the aged McCArthy. One day Billy will also play for a bigger european club than where Benni has played, its just a matter of time and earn more than Benni. At the end of the day his money did not win him the match. In case Benni does not know, Money can buy looks, but not love, money can buy a Doctor, but not health, money can buy bed, but not sleep, money can buy property, but not wisdom, the latter which Benni lacks and you can have all the money, but zambia has the talent and goal 3-1.He has failed to score today against the hopeless Uruguay. Bafana bafana is finished like a curtain.

  52. Since technically the 2001 elections where rigged,LPM was only duly elected in the 2006 polls.Without a doubt LPM has performed beyond expectations and for continuity sake, shouldn`t he run in 2011?Any arguments for or against are welcome.

  53. This blog is for soccer and not politics. BB vs Uruguag, uhh my gosh. BB looked even more amaturish than they even did against Zambia. Uruguay on the other hand showed some class, and they were denied a clear penalty by the SA referee who officiated the match when one of their strikers was brought down in the box. #64, You dont even desrve to be on this blog.

  54. number 64 chikala chobe, and wabae T .It just exposes you foolishneess to think zambia can con a match with BB.What benefit does it give SA and BB to let zambia beat them ?When did you even become a soccer analyst?have u forgotten how Zambia whacked your country in 1988 5-0 or it it 4-0 at your own turf.stop talking crap and instead start watching golf maybe you will have a bit of wisdom.U are f…ked up

  55. BB vs Uruguay.I don’t want to be very negative but the referee was extremely biased towards BB.In fact Uruguay were missing their big name stars like Diego Forlan,Alvaro Recoba,Diego Perez and goalkeeper Fabian Carini.A bit better performance from B.B though. But the have a hell lot of work to do honestly.
On #64 it’s a waste of time to comment on you lame theory.

  56. Billy-SA i agree with you Uruguay played beautiful football but the referee did not help their cause.Anyway what do you expect when the referee is S.African.Ama guys aba bali itemwa badi.

  57. Billy-SA i agree with you Uruguay played beautiful football but the referee did not help their cause.Anyway what do you expect when the referee is S.African.Ama guys aba bali itemwa badi.RN Pretoria it’s true ama guys aba when they travel north the say we going to Africa like the Americans or guys from Europe say we coming or going to Africa.

  58. For sure I respect Zambian football, but I was disappointed this time. BB Vs Chipolopolo to me looked like watching a Hollywood Movie, where the performance had been well rehearsed days before and 22 actors from Zambia and South Africa (Katongo as the star) were performing. I know Zambia could have won, but they were so desperate to qualify that they chose to play a syndicate game so that they would be sure of a win right from the start. Watching this game on TV, that Sunday evening, is the most annoying experience I have had with African football. You say we try in 2010, but I tell you Uganda would rather not qualify in the next 100 years than qualify the way Zambia did this time. I praise SA for the COSAFA spirit, this is the reason they gave you this game. Can you believe Kaizer chiefs in SA where David Obua plays wanted to stop him from playing for his country. He actually scored a hat-trick in Cranes Vs Niger match after he forced his way to Kampala. Good lack in Ghana!

  59. #77 I cant believe what you are writing. For sure you have no knowledge of South African football. There is no way south africa will sell a game to zambia. No Way. On your Obua are you sure he is a big star? Come on man,you still have a long way to go in football. The Team Niger that you beat 3-1 one cant even beat lesotho and yet you just managed 3 goals. Wait till 2010 or as you said 100 years from now pank.

  60. Malimbo Mugagga matha faka get out of this blog pank ass. Who the hell do you think you are little pig. Just leave us alone. What is Uganda. Your country is not even known in the soccer circles. We are a footballing nation as Zambia and we won that match on merit. Fellow Zambians cant Lusaka Times do something and stop such nonsense from this Ugandan lunatic? Help

  61. Malimbo what ever your name is i didn’t want to Reply to your senseless theory. If you watched the game then you saw how physical the game was Zambia had 5 yellow cards and one red card. The was almost a fight after the red card, tackles were flying.Parreira for your own info threw water bottles and turn a few chairs around in the dressing room at half time.To you this was all staged, My Word, this actually insulting the Zambians and South Africans.Parreira is World class coach he would never allow a game to be given away and as people have said you just showing us your ignorance of African Soccer cos South Africa will never give away a game to Zambia the same with Zambia.
What game were you watching on Sunday unless you blind that game was a tough game. How could you fail to score more than 4 or 5 goals against Niger you guys were just waiting for other teams to do the job for you cos you failed to do the job yourselves on Saturday.Grow up buddy!

  62. Are you saying you can’t win a game without David Obua? In Zambia we don’t depend on one player like you, the next game Zambia plays trust me another player will be a hero not C.Katongo.We love Chris but we win games as a team not one man.Obua might a good player but don’t mourn over one player. If he was to be drafted into our team he would struggle to get a place in the team. For your own info Zambia played without 2 key guys in defense but never did you hear us mourn.Malimbo your theory sucks!

  63. ZAMBIA WAS MISSING TWO STARS IN EUROPE. MOSES SICHONE AND EDWIN PHIRI. BUT WE STILL WON YOUR CRAP TEAM DEPENDS ON ONE USLESS F*** CALLED OBUA. WHO THE F*** IS THAT. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF HIM. OUR STRIKE FORCE HAS GOT BEASTS. MBESUMA, KATONGO AND JACOB MULENGA ARE F****** BEASTS THEY WOULD HAVE HAMMERED NIGER 11-0. MUGAGGA JUST BECUSAE YOU ARE IN KAMPALA DONT THINK I CANT FIND YOU. I WILL MESS YOU UP IF YOU DONT SHUT UP.

  64. If malimbo mugagga is a rebel in congo. I wonder how he manages to access lusaka times. Considering the fact that Eastern Congo is a very remote part of the world.

  65. # Anonymous

We all know that it is difficult to understand how black magic works and we all know there is nothing impossible with these guys. Who are we then to start wondering how Mugagga manages to access Lusaka times?
Note:That area is rich these things eeh!

  66. You guys are great. You should replace bikiloni. about his rebels, the only thing I know about Uganda is Idi Amin. As for soccer, the name crane means nothing to me.

  67. ALL IS SAID AND TWALIWINA BUT,WHAT PAINS ME IS WHY DIDNT THE REFEREE ISSUE A RED CARD AT LEAST A YELLOW TO THE CAPETONIAN THUG SO CALLED BEN MAKA MAFI FOR HIS BEHAVIOR AGAINAST OUR HERO. HE ONLY SHOWED THE CROWD HOW RELIEVED HE WAS WHEN CHANSA WAS GIVEN A RED CARD.SORRY BEN IT HAPPENS IS NOT YOU FALT WE ARE JUST DEADLY WE DONT GIVE CHANCE TO SMALL TEAMS LIKE YOURS.

  68. Ruud Kaiser, scout for chelsea fc is reported to have left newlands stadium immediately after seeing Katongo score his third goal, it is believed that he was tracking clifford mulenga but did not see him play after being overwhelmed by Katongo. You will recall it was clifford mulenga’s brace that helped under 18 tuks academy of pretoria defeat chelsea under 18s 3-2 @ the milk cup and reach the finals against Man U under 18s a couple of years ago.
Zambians its only a matter of time it is not too far away.
