PRESIDENT Mwanawasa is on Tuesday expected in Mazabuka to officially launch the Sugarcane Expansion Project at Zambia Sugar Company Plc.The President would depart Lusaka at 07:30 hours by helicopter and conduct an aerial view of the Kafue river, Delta farm, Manyonyo, Chilala, Nanga and Magobbo settlements before landing at Nakambala football ground at 08:00 hours.

Zambia Sugar Company Plc managing director, Paul de Robillard would accompany the President during the aerial viewing of farms and areas where the expansion programme was being implemented.

The President will then proceed to Kaleya Smallholders by road where he is expected to tour the Sugarcane Outgrowers Scheme before unveiling the project.

Zambia Sugar Company Plc has pumped K840 Billion into the expansion project which has gained momentum.

Production of sugar is projected to increase from the current 260,000 to 440,000 tonnes due to the additional 10,500 hactares of land under the expansion programme.

Construction of water canals will cover 30 kilometres from the Kafue river, which is the source of water for irrigation for sugarcane.

So far the digging of canals has covered a distance of three kilometres while on bush clearing, eight kilometres have been done.

    Taiwan‘s President Calls for Vote

China‘s dream 2008 Olympics in Beijing have one potential nightmare: Taiwan. And the bogeyman is the…

Over the past seven years in office, President Chen Shui-bian has pushed an agenda focused on a sovereign Taiwan independent of Beijing, which considers the territory an inseparable part of China. But Chen’s latest political gambit, a public referendum next year on the island’s bid for membership in the United Nations, has done more than elicit sharp criticism and veiled threats from China. It’s also caused frictions with its main military defender, the United States.

In late August, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte declared Chen’s proposal “a mistake.” The State Department has regularly said the U.S. opposes Taiwan’s membership in international organizations that require statehood, including the United Nations and the World Health Organization. Negroponte called the vote a step towards “a declaration of independence,” urging Taiwan’s leaders to “behave in a responsible manner.” The referendum, scheduled to take place alongside presidential elections in March, will ask voters whether the island should join the U.N. under the name Taiwan. It’s a provocative moniker: unlike previous applications under its official name, the Republic of China, the use of Taiwan is meant to drive home Chen’s contention that the island is completely separate from the mainland, and implies a move toward a permanent break.

The U.N. General Assembly will consider the issue on Tuesday, although any request for admission by Taiwan is largely symbolic. As a member of the Security Council, China can veto any application, and Taiwan has tried — and failed — to regain membership more than a dozen times since being expelled in 1971, when the U.N. granted China’s seat to Beijing. American censure, therefore, comes mostly out of a desire to avoid upsetting what has always been a tenuous peace between the mainland and Taiwan. In July, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang warned the proposed vote could “have a grave impact on cross-Straits relations and seriously endanger peace and stability across the Straits and Asia-Pacific region.”

But neither Chinese nor American opposition has done much to dampen Taiwanese enthusiasm for the referendum. On Saturday, more than 100,000 people took to the streets in the southern port city of Kaohsiung to rally in favor of the referendum and seemingly in support of Chen’s vision of a sovereign Taiwan. More than 3,000 Taiwanese expatriates attended a second protest outside U.N. headquarters in New York City. A poll released earlier this month by a Taipei-based think tank found that 47% of respondents disagreed with the U.S.’s position on U.N. membership, and three-quarters said they already see Taiwan as independent. China condemned this weekend’s demonstrations, warning Sunday that Beijing was now preparing for a “serious situation.”

A cross-straits war, however, is hardly imminent. For its part, Beijing cannot risk any embarrassing military action in the run-up to the Olympic games next August. And Taipei-based observers say that the referendum is less a declaration of independence than a political ploy by Chen to bolster his own legacy, as well as voter turnout in March for Chen’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). “The ruling party doesn’t have much to campaign about,” says Chao Chien-min, a political science professor at Taiwan’s National Chengchi University. “The only thing they can do is portray the opposition as Beijing’s collaborator.” Chao says a similar strategy was key to the DPP’s victory in the 2004 elections, which included Taiwan’s first referendum. This time around, the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) has proposed its own referendum on U.N. membership to compete on the same ballot as the DPP’s, although it leaves open the question of whether to use a less contentious name — such as Chinese Taipei, the name its athletes use when competing in the Olympics. KMT presidential candidate Ma Ying-jeou held his own pro-U.N. membership rally on Saturday, attracting about 50,000 supporters to the central city of Taichung.

Chen has denied the referendum has anything to do with politics. The president also stridently insists the vote will occur no matter what the circumstances. That said, he has tried to temper U.S. resistance by making assurances to American officials that the naming controversy will go away after the elections. And Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Christensen on Sept. 11 followed up Negroponte’s earlier comments by emphasizing the continuing friendship between the two entities. “We do not like having to express publicly our disagreement with the Chen Administration on this or any other policy,” Christensen said.

In recent years, however, Taiwan has seen diplomatic support for its existence ebb, especially as China has grown as an economic superpower. In the 1970s, Taiwan was recognized by 65 nations. Today, only 24 mostly impoverished countries consider Taiwan independent. “We have to acknowledge a tough truth,” Christensen said. “Most countries in the world accept Beijing’s characterization of Taiwan, and, when energized, the PRC can call in overwhelming support to marginalize Taipei.” Indeed, the U.S.’s vocal opposition to the referendum is being seen in Taiwan as more evidence of the influence China now wields. “Beijing now realizes the shortest route to Taipei is through Washington,” says former diplomat Loh I-cheng. “They are telling the U.S., ‘It was you who spoiled this child, you should spank him.'”

  4. Chiluba case adjourned
The London High Court case against Second Republican President Frederick Chiluba has been adjourned to October 29-31 2007 by Lusaka High Court Judge Japhet Banda.

Judge Banda has decided that he will not make any ruling on the preliminary issues raised by Dr. Chiluba’s lawyers and has instead called for a full trial in the matter.

Judge Banda made the ruling, Monday as lawyers for both the state and Dr. Chiluba appeared before him for setting of trial dates in the matter.

Dr. Chiluba was briefly at the Lusaka High Court with his wife Regina.

In the case, Dr. Chiluba is challenging the state’s attempt to register the May 4, London High Court Judgment delivered by judge Peter Smith that found him liable for conspiracy to defraud the Zambia government in excess of $50 million.

  5. So we are going to see this case go for another 4 years before they can decide to register the case or not.I believe the private prosectutors will continue making the $20,000 a month.mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. The gravy train is still going chuuuu chuuuu

  7. post report the K194 million gone missing, and gov has suspended ps, but which one is the victim here again? where was everyone when this money grew legs, and for how long has it gone missing.

  8. It is very embarrassing that Presido Sata has imported into PF the disdained Chiluba’s infamous New Culture electoral malpractices. In Ndola Central we have been caught with pants down for corruption and stealing votes, in Chinsali’s Malole the same story and now it is the Luanshya seat gone with Nchanga’s Mr. Chimumba defected to MMD just like that. Where too PF? We are taking defeats on all fronts from political to constitutional fronts where too PF? What is our strategy? With 10 more MPs rumored of crossing to MMD soon we risk losing our official opposition status. Below 40 seats MMD could legally withdraw it making a very big damaging impact on our party.

So far we seem to have no strategy but helpless frictions and conspiracies eating into our camp every day. I think its time for a new blood and new leadership in PF to par these MMD. Let’s start campaigning and press Presido Sata for intra democracy to fuse in life in the dying Party.

    By BARBARA MUKUKA
THE Ndola High Court has nullified the election of Patriotic Front (PF) Luanshya member of Parliament, Jean Phiri, and declared MMD candidate, Simon Kachimba, as duly elected.
The court ordered the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to pay costs for both the petitioner and the first respondent.
“I order that ECZ be condemned to bear the costs for the petitioner and the first respondent and parties should know that they have a right to appeal to the Supreme Court,” Judge Florence Lengalenga said.
According to section 104, sub-section (i) 3 of the Electoral Act of 2006, the High Court is empowered to nullify results of a parliamentary poll and declare another person as duly elected if it so deemed.
“In the circumstance and on account of section 104 of the Electoral Act, I find that Ms Phiri was not duly elected but that Mr Kachimba was duly elected and I therefore declare him as duly elected” Judge Lengalenga said.
Mr Kachimba petitioned the election of Ms Phiri citing wrong postings of two results and asked for a recount and scrutiny of the results.
He submitted that 250 votes for Kafubu ward were awarded to Ms Phiri as opposed to the 160 votes she polled.
At Kansato, she polled 59 votes but she was given 109 votes, he said.
The petitioner told the court that apart from the voting starting late at Kafubu block because wrong ballots for Chienge constituency were given to some electorates, the voting period was incident-free.
He said he learnt of the mistake when the returning officer, John Mwanza, invited him to a meeting scheduled for October 2, 2006, which was to take place at Mikonfwa community hall.
He said Mr Mwanza told him that a grave mistake had been made while compiling and posting the results to the ECZ centre in Lusaka.
He said Mr Mwanza informed him that results for two polling stations were wrongly awarded to Ms Phiri.
Judge Lengalenga ruled that the court had established that there was “mis-posting” of results in two wards, Kafubu block and Kansato polling stations.
Judge Lengalenga was satisfied that Ms Phiri was wrongly awarded results meant for the United Democratic Alliance candidate, Piet Siwale.
Judge Lengalenga said after the verification and recounting of the ballots at the Ndola City Council to establish the rightful winner of the September 28 polls, it was found that 24,271 votes were cast and that Mr Kachimba had 8,943 votes, Ms Phiri had 8,828 and Mr Siwale polled 1,778.
Judge Lengalenga said since the petitioner had alleged that he had been disadvantaged when there was mis-posting of results the only way to verify the allegation would be by way of a recount.
“A recount of the votes is not a relief but helps the court to reach a decision on whether the candidate was duly elected or not,” she said.
Judge Lengalenga said the court also found that the evidence of the petitioner and his witnesses had been collaborated by the recount and that she was satisfied that there was mis-posting of votes.
And commenting on the judgment Mr Kachimba said he was happy that justice had prevailed.
Mr Kachimba said he was ready to work with all political parties to develop Luanshya as he intended to serve the interests of the people.
He urged all members of the constituency to take part in the development of the area regardless of party affiliations.
Ms Phiri was not present during judgment and she was unreachable on her phone.
But her lawyer, Ernest Mwansa, said neither he nor his client knew the court was sitting yesterday and so would comment later.
“Until I read the judgment, I cannot make any comment on the matter,” Mr Mwansa said.
MMD cadres burst into celebrations outside the Ndola High Court as police kept vigil.

  10. #1 Do u know the reason the LT have go to the graveyard – becoz of pipo like #10 who subject the bloggers to copy & paste instead of debating the topic at hand. We are forced to read the same news all over again – its boring us to dead. Pls pipo be intellegent and debate from heart not from C&P.

  11. These by elections are a total meaningless enterprize. And they are still coming. The courts obviously claim they are dispensing justice but the ultimate losers are we the tax payers that are forced to substitute one redudant MP for another.

  12. CSO to introduce Producer Price Index
    By NANCY MWAPE

THE Central Statistical Office (CSO) is soon to introduce a Producer Price Index (PPI) to measure price changes of goods bought and sold by manufacturers.

The PPI will be an addition to Consumer Price Index (CPI) that is used to measure inflation.

Speaking at the just-ended Business and Economic Reporting training workshop for Journalists, CSO principal statistician, Phillip Miti, said PPI measured what manufacturers were producing and also measured the economical growth.

Mr Miti said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank were encouraging Government to start compiling the PPI.

He said that the PPI accurate measures would be carried out by a further introduction of an output price index that would measure change in the price of goods produced by the manufacturers at the factory gate prices.

He said that CSO would also introduce an input price index that would measure changes in the price of materials and fuels bought by manufacturers for processing.

Other indices to be introduced by CSO include the Export Price Index that is a series of economic indicators to measure change in the price of goods manufactured in the country but destined for export markets.

The Imported Price indices, which are a series of economic indicators to measure change in the prices of goods and raw materials imported into the country will also be introduced.

Mr Miti also said out that the CSO would launch a new CPI system that would replace the current CPI that focus on metropolitan low income, metropolitan high income and non metropolitan income to come up with the average annual inflation.

He said that with the new CPI system, CSO would calculate its annual inflation levels by recording inflation from provinces and come up with the average figure for the nation.

He said CPI covered the whole country both rural and urban areas with an average of 15,000 prices collected and processed.

  13. LAZ gives FTJ cold shoulder

    By Times Reporter

THE Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) has said second Republican President, Frederick Chiluba, will not add any value to the current Constitution making process especially that the Constitutional crises, which have arisen today, are substantially attributed to his former regime.
LAZ president, Elijah Banda said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that the Oasis Forum did not consult his association when inviting Dr Chiluba and Heritage Party president, Godffrey Miyanda, to the stakeholders meeting last week.
Mr Banda said it was doubtful that Dr Chiluba would add any value to the process currently underway.
He said LAZ recognised the fact that the constitutional crisis arising today was substantially attributed to the manner in which the last Constitution review process was handled by the Chiluba government, hence doubted the former president’s value in the current process.
He said the Oasis Forum did not consult LAZ over the invitation of Dr Chiluba to the meeting and therefore, dissociated itself from such an alliance.
“As regards to the alliance between the Oasis Forum and Dr Chiluba, I should confirm that as LAZ, we were not consulted and we are not aware of that alliance,” Mr Banda said.
He said LAZ would on September 28 hold its extraordinary general meeting at which a decision whether to take part in the National Constitution Conference (NCC) or not, would be made.
Mr Banda said LAZ had stopped its members from attending the Oasis Forum stakeholders meeting because it wanted to prevent them from airing views that would contradict the association’s position on the NCC.
He said the notice had already been issued for the September 28 general meeting at which LAZ’s position on NCC would be made known.
“The LAZ council met and discussed the issue of the NCC at length. We resolved to refer the issue to a special extraordinary meeting.
“We told our members not to attend the stakeholders meeting called by the Oasis Forum because we wanted to prevent them from airing views that will pre-empt the LAZ’s position on the NCC which would be issued at the September 28 meeting,” Mr Banda said.
He explained that LAZ decided to give its former president, William Mweemba, a go-ahead to attend the meeting just as a discussant and not a LAZ representative.
“We gave him a go-ahead to go and present a paper not as a representative of LAZ but just as one of the discussants,” he said.
He could not comment on the NCC composition for fear of pre-empting the outcome of the association’s special meeting to be held at the Mulungushi International Conference Center.
Meanwhile, Mr Mweemba did not lose at last LAZ annual general meeting as we reported yesterday. He in fact did not re-contest the position of president.

  14. ZEC won’t boycot NCC, but…

    By ANGELA CHISHIMBA

ZAMBIA Episcopal Conference (ZEC) president, Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu, says the bishops’ group will not boycott the National Constitutional Conference (NCC) but lobby members of the conference from outside to help build consensus.

Archbishop Mpundu said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that ZEC would participate in the constitution-making process by engaging those who will be part of the NCC.

Archbishop Mpundu said at no time did his organisation indicate they would boycott the constitution-making process.

“We didn’t say that our organisation will not participate in this process.

Our position is that we are going to participate, but not in the manner suggested by the NCC Act,” Archbishop said.

“We will engage those who are going to participate in the NCC by feeding them with information that will help the NCC come up with a consensus.”

He said ZEC would engage NCC members as soon as the process commenced.

He said the constitution-making process was not for Government alone but Zambians.

“This is why we are surprised that the Minister of Justice said that those boycotting will do so at their own peril.

If organisations boycott this process, it is also at the peril of Government and everybody,” he said.

“It’s the failure of Government because it is in the driver’s seat.

Government should examine its conscience on why people are pulling out,” he said.

And Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) general-secretary, Suzzane Matale, said her organisation wished Government well as it proceeded with the process.

“They can go ahead with the process, after all, they have the power and all the instruments,” she said.

Rev Matale said CCZ maintained that it would not change its position to boycott the NCC.

She said CCZ felt that the composition of the NCC allowed Government to have an in-built majority of its agents.

Rev Matale said the church had a mandate to speak for the marginalised people who were usually left out in decision-making.

“We are not abandoning the constitution-making process but we have chosen not to be inside the NCC but outside,” she said.

Meanwhile BARBARA MUKUKA reports that Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Mike Mulongoti, says some church leaders and non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) that have pulled out of the NCC should not undermine citizens taking part in the conference.

The minister said organisations that would boycott the NCC must stop demeaning other citizens’ integrity by insinuating that those who participated would not be objective.

He said this when he paid a courtesy call on Copperbelt Province Minister, Mwansa Mbulakulima, in Ndola yesterday.

“Stop insulting other citizens who want go for the conference to make their contributions by insinuating that their submissions will be lopsided.

It is insulting their intelligence,” he said.

He said participants to the conference would not be dictated to but freely discuss issues.

It was not fair for some organisations to project their personal interests over others but that the interests of the majority should be projected.

The conference would be a meeting for equals and all citizens would be given a chance to put their views across.

He encouraged those who would be chosen to participate with open minds.

“Be objective about the NCC so that your interests can be protected and make sure that when you go for the conference you argue with relevance so that all citizens can benefit,” he said.

He said the law must be observed as the NCC was now law and that anyone who was aggrieved should do so through the courts.

And Mr Mbulakulima said President Mwanawasa had exhibited flexibility on the constitution.

And MUKULA MUKULA and BUPE CHISHIMBA report that Mr Mulongoti, who is also Chief Government spokesperson, said some NGOs were making unrealistic demands and assuming the role of elected representatives.

The minister said even questionable NGOs that were not accountable wanted to take the role of elected representatives in the constitution-making process using the back door.

He said this when he paid a courtesy call on Kitwe district commissioner, McDonald Mtine, yesterday.

He said all MPs were included in the NCC because they carried the mandate of the people who elected them to public office.

Government did not want to have a pre-determined out come of the NCC.

He said the fears that Government would bulldoze its way during the conference were baseless because no delegate would give instructions to another.

The minister said organisations that were contemplating to boycott the NCC would disadvantage their members because they would not be there to defend their interests.

He alleged that NGOs that were contemplating boycotting the NCC were protecting the interests of their financers.

He said it was not true that there was acrimony on the constitution-making process.

And during his tour of media organisations on the Copperbelt, he urged journalists to commit themselves in their duties to inform the public on what was happening in the country.

Government would do all it could to make the journalism industry develop in the country.

Mr Mulongoti said the tour of media houses on the Copperbelt was aimed at hearing what challenges the media was faced with.

He said it was important for Government and the media to work together for the development of the country.

He disclosed that he received a letter from an angry concerned resident who stated that Radio Icengelo was fond of airing programmes, which were against the Government.

He said the private institutions should not promote anger against the people.

He said there would be no benefit in inciting people in rebellious.

The minister was disappointment at the unsanitary conditions at the Zambia News and Information Services offices in Kitwe.

The minister was, however, impressed with the sanitary conditions of the Zambia Daily Mail offices in Kitwe and said what he saw provided a ray of hope for the future.

He advised Zambia Daily Mail management to find ways of improving circulation figures.

Zambia Daily Mail production and online editor, Pelekelo Liswaniso, said in his welcoming remarks that newspapers from the head office in Lusaka arrived late in Kitwe.

Mr Liswaniso said the printing machine was very old, making it impossible for the newspaper to be printed on time.

  15. I quote Mwanawasa on the ZNBC website… “OASIS in ‘unholy alliance’ President Mwanawasa has taken a swipe at the Oasis Forum for teaming up with people facing corruption charges, to undermine his Government over the constitutional making process. The President said this in Mazabuka, Southern Province, Tuesday on arrival at Nakambala football ground. He said he was disappointed to see photographs of Oasis leaders hand in hand with people accused of plundering the economy.
Mr. Mwanawasa who was addressing Mazabuka residents, also accused the Oasis Forum of failing to support his crusade against corruption. He charged that the Oasis Forum has never condemned corrupt people publicly but were quick in criticising Government. Mr. Mwanasawa accused the Oasis Forum of having a personal hatred against him.”

This an insult to Zambians from someone who has in his party executive, Michael Mabenga and Katele Kalumba. Is joking about this or is sick in his head???

  16. Hi fellows, can someone enlighten us regarding the number of seats that the new stadium in Ndola which the Chinese are going to build will have. A Zambian reporting for BBC says it will be a 40000 seater stadium. ZNBC also reports that it will be 40000 while Daily mail says it will be a 60000 seater stadium. Who is telling the truth here. How did our Zambian journalists have different figures for the same story? This shows how these journalists are often twisting stories. Peharps they need better training.

  17. Stadium to have new name
The new ultra modern stadium to be built in Ndola on the copperbelt by China will not be named Dag Hammerskjoeld Stadium but will be given another name once completed.

Sports Minister, Gabriel Namulambe said this, Monday during the signing ceremony for the contract design of the stadium between the Chinese government and the Zambia.

Namulambe said people calling for the new stadium to be named after the late UN Secretary General are free to construct another stadium to be named Dag Hammerskjoeld.

He also called on the Tourism board to consider putting up a five star hotel near the new ultra modern stadium.

And Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Lee Qiangmin said the 40,000 setter stadium will cost about $60 million.

He also gave the assuarance that the stadium will be completed before 2010.

  18. ZANIS, please give us real and relevant news. You cant be telling us how LPM will fly over a plantation in a helicopter then drive to a small holding. Is this news really?

  19. Ba Oasis Forum. Mwayamba kuyitaya manje. You have scored in your own goal mouth. Chiluba possibly is the most unpopular former president this side of the Equator(South). We dont have to remind the Forum that, Chiluba is responsible for most of the contentious clauses in the constitution, bad Laws which we are trying to repeal now. I have in mind the following.
I will continue to insist.. Cobra has no interest in having this constitution inacted. Cobra can never win a National Election of 50 plus percentage. His interest is to use the Simple Majority and he will do anything to avoid the changes especially on this Clause. Therefore those who are blind and cant calculate ahead would just be supporting Vultures whose interest is only themselves and their cronies and tandem of thieves.
We want this constitution like yesterday to change the landscape of our politics and throw away mediocrity, Nepotism, Tribalism etc. Levy will have himself to blame if we dont get this done before 2011

  20. # 1 and # 2 are right. this blog is going to the dogs.Is this the best the blog can do. This blog used to have progressive topics but lately it has become useless. It is all about LPM and his croonies. We are now being informed of him having a jolly ride in a chopper. You can never such find a blog this dull in the US.

  21. Nonhlanhla – New York (23), well said….we spend more time discussing the copy and paste contributions than the topic introduced by LT !!During my day i frequently turn to LT in the hope of something exciting to contribute to…..but alas not only are the contributors the same “usual suspects”, the discussions gravitate to the same tired old issues of the constitution and its adoption, with few comments on the content of the damn document !!!

  22. World’s oldest man turns 112

    1 hour, 41 minutes ago

The world’s oldest man celebrated his 112th birthday Tuesday with a healthy Japanese breakfast of rice, miso soup and seaweed, saying he wanted to live forever.

Tomoji Tanabe, who has been the world’s oldest man since January this year, lives with his son and family in Japan’s southern prefecture of Miyazaki. He keeps a diary and reads the newspaper every day.

“I want to live indefinitely. I don’t want to die,” he said as he marked his birthday, Kyodo News reported.

Tanabe, a teetotaller who has repeatedly said that avoiding alcohol is a secret of his longevity, was given a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records by the mayor of his local municipality in June.

Japan has the largest population of centenarians in the world. The number of Japanese aged at least 100 years old is expected to top 30,000 by the end of September, the health ministry said in a recent report.

The Japanese people’s renowned longevity is often attributed to eating the country’s traditional healthy food, despite the hectic lifestyle many lead in the big cities.

But the longevity is also presenting a headache as the country has one of the lowest birthrates, raising fears of a future demographic crisis as a smaller pool of workers supports a mass of elderly.

  23. #16 und 17 the issue of Mabenga was table in court of law and he was found guilty of his acts but instead of the court passing judgementit was linient on him. I dont think LPM is to blame here he is not the arresting, convicting authority. The president did he part by removing him from Cabinet. Thats why you compllain of one person having too much powers so LPM has shown you this that other you learn to excute their powers. Since the court treat this as a civil case Mabenga is was free to contest the elections in 2006 which saw him win. Over Kaka its the same his friends have strongly defended him that he is innocent until proved guilty i.e SAKI himself, even Sata has defended offended like Mulyata have you forgotten. KAKA is still on trial and he holds no govt position apart from being secretary of MMD which his fellow thugs voted for him. The waste is in Kenya where the Parliament blocked the ACC to probe cases beyonded 2003. You can see how the African system corrupt is.

  24. #26 Socrates, The OA doesnt want the president to disssolve the NCC sittings if they exceed 12 months. The clauses gives the powers that the president has powers to dissolves the NCC once it exceeds its sittings over 12 months because of the huge costs involved. I have always said it time and again that GRZ learnt something from CRC which took longer than expected and pipo like Mungomba, Mvunga amashed Millions and Millions of Kwachas at the expense of development. Pipo wanted the president surrender powers of electing the chairman and his vice he did and left it in the hands of the secretary to the cabinet, still some pipo were not appeased all they want is to see LPM resign and take the power but this wont happen because in some cases this president is right and he corrects his mistakes. Very few leaders can humble themselves like what LPM has been doing.

  25. #29 You say…” KAKA is still on trial and he holds no govt position apart from being secretary of MMD which his fellow thugs voted for him.”

well my friend #29 the people who LPM refers to on photographs with Oasis guys also don’t have government positions. They are also standing trial and are innocent until proven guilty! Don’t attempt to rationalise what LPM remarks are. Chiluba holds no seat whatsoever and if you want to stick your head in the sand and make believe that the Chief Executive of MMD (KAKA) does not have any influence in running government go ahead!

  26. KAKA is part of the governent by virtual of his position in MMD. He is the chief link to the PIG (Party and Its Government). He probably attends carbinet meetings. MMD decided to have SG as a full time ,fully paid CEO, with cabinet conditions of service. So KAKA is a very powerful man. In the comming two years when MMD starts defining and searching its future without LPM. KAKA will be very important and central to the direction MMD takes. He probably will be the next MMD president if LPM decides to aquite him.

  27. The Original Pundit
The fact that you can post on these blogs using useless pseudonyms instead of the given family names is enough evidence of your cowardice. You bring all proof of incompetence, lack of self conviction and unquestionable inherent defeat on frontiers of imaginary costly engagements.
Since I started patronizing blogs and discussion forums I have seen only very few brave and forthright unflinching individuals speaking their minds with identity publicly given in blogs, print and electronic media. The majority of your types are indisputably and authentically spineless cowards in the habit of meaningless mutative pseudonyms. May be you don’t know that freedom is absolute under Mwanawasa irrespective of your incorrigible hatred which the administration doesn’t care.
On articulation and depth, your freedom of speech I dully respect- you must be another mentally imbalanced kid at worst because some of us in doubt are yet to see y logic and depth from you. Maybe show the subject where you have articulated with intellect, depth and precision.
I respect bloggers but always forthright admonishing where there is evidence of the “Bad Tendency” of self deceit as seen dominating the soul of Pundit, The Original Pundit, Pungwa, Observer, Concerned Citizen and such palpable cyber mutants.
Surely principles you lack are costly and unpopular but very important in life both in short and long term. If anything, they have brighter and uncertain dividends in silence impossible to be altered by laymen of incorrigible hatred.
    Good luck and keep trying.

  28. So this is why Sikatana was fired, caption from Zim. Indepenedent news…

“..This came as it emerged that Mwanawasa fired his vocal former Foreign minister Mundia Sikatana as a result of his explosive row with Mugabe, not because of failing health as officially claimed.Diplomatic sources said Sikatana was fired by Mwanawasa after he tried to stop Mugabe’s delegation from leaving. Sikatana is said to have told the Zimbabweans to be patient with Mwanawasa because from time to time he experienced momentary concentration lapses as a result of a car accident. It is understood Sikatana’s references to the occasional slip-ups by Mwanawasa was the real reason why he was dismissed days after the summit. The sources said after Mugabe stormed out of the meeting, Sikatana tried to ensure that the Zimbabwean delegation did not walk away for good and in the process explained that Mwanawasa could have acted the way he did due to his erratic behaviour and concentration lapses.”

  29. #35 The Original Pundit.I took a break for a while but #33 Kafula`s comments on my companero can not go without any response.Young man #33 stop this lunacy of trying to bully objective bloggers like #35 TOP.Don`t behave live a spineless moron without offering any point of view but just being personal petty.

  30. LT.You seem to be running out of ideas but I can say that your blog is far better than the boring ZOL.Try to work on the topics you introduce and preferably a log in system to cut on the ever increasing number of imposters.Otherwise, your sports page is top class and always keeps us informed about the current sports activities in ZED.

  31. Chapi,
Your passion for blogging risks leaving you into perpetual irrelevancy. Its like you have gone for the undeclared blog policing job without a sense of self restraint and bounderly. What is wrong in admonishing a blogger where its been observed otherwise? Do people need permission from you? If so under what parameters? maybe you are merely playing some jury duties here though in a very wrong and unprofessional way. Basic skills will do you good i presume.Tell me what is the measure of good in your jury duties?

  32. #39 Kafula/Veteran.Direct your sentiments to B.Kabaso for such poor blog administration.Do you want us all to be MMD and LPM bootlickers?I am afraid that your wish will never come to pass, otherwise tough lack on your pipe dream.
LT,please try to be more creative in the way you run your blog because people are terribly bored with the same topics.
