HH appeals to govt to halt abuse of public funds.

Share

hh.jpgThe United Party for National Development(UPND) has called on government to halt the rampant abuse of public funds in the country.

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema said the revelations by the Auditor General’s office on the abuse of public funds amounting to K14.2 trillion was unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.

Mr. Hichilema who read out a report from the Auditor General’s office said the fight against corruption will not be contained at the rate at which public funds were being abused.

The UPND president was speaking at a Press briefing in Lusaka today.

A report from the Auditor General’s report indicated that between the 2001 and 2005, about K27 billion was misappropriated and K54 billion was misapplied while K119 billion imprest was not retired.

The report further revealed that about K48 billion was not banked on time and there was an over payment of over K14 billion.

Mr. Hichilema said with such levels of abuse of public resources, 90 percent of Zambia’s poor risked remaining in poverty all their lives.

The UPND president observed that Zambia is not a poor country saying the main problem was poor management of resources especially by people in public offices.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hichilema has appealed to government to re-open Evelyn Hone College.

He pointed out that there was need to address the root cause of the problem at higher institutions of learning before closing them.

  1. Mwabuka buti ba HH?(Goodmorning HH).It’s not too late for you to make a difference and to rewear the shoes of late Andy in increasing political mileage like ba Sata is doing.Anyway,HH, here you have scored. It’s not only ba HE Sata to doing checks and balances on inept brutes of so called family tree and everlasting NEW dealers in govt.Your voice HH together with other sleeping family parties will make MMD brutes work for the pipo.Chuchu are you really fighting corruption?Or you are part of it?

  2. HH, u are right. we arent a poor nation. its really the misappropiation of such huge sums. just imagine if that much would be invested in to a poverty eradication program. how many pipo would benefit? its time we fight corruption with sincerity, not only verbally. the leaders are only talking while less action is taken. last week we had some “allegations” about some senior public figures. how is it going? we need more voices to come out in open. looks like we only have sata, hh and miyanda. wher

  3. where are the other pipo? where is dr mumba, nawakwi, tilyenji…? its time we get more voices. maybe a change would take place. students are not given proper attention , institutions are being closed and yet so much money is being misappropriated. where are we? who will bring a change if we cant do it ourselves? should we wait for the west to teach us love and caring for each other? god have mercy.

    Bravo Zambia

  5. “as strong economic growth puts more money in the pockets of ordinary Zambians” Quote

Since the early 70s we have never had this prevalent economic stead stay in Zambia. Bravo Zambians for the sacrifice and thumbs up to the visionary leadership for your tenacity. Better days are here for us to realize.

  8. Wanzelu # 6,Sata has to be mentioned because he is the only opposition leader who is making sense. This HH is just slowing falling into LPM’s laps hoping to be picked as next president.PF and Sata is the way to go.

  9. HH talks issues not tissues like Sata.He is looking at the AG report , not stnading on an anthill and insulting his fellow statemen.HH is inteligent and sharp but lacks public appeal like Mazoka. Unfortunately, you do not buy that , its God given.Sata is an old horse, cannot offer anything new from Kaunda and FTJ Govt. He just talks coz he can. We need new ideas, fresh politicians, not re-cycled. Zambia desrves better …. come on guys.

  10. With that kind of nonsense silence issues, I assure you, HH will never ruler zed, not when Lima Bank former employees are suffering and pockteted their money through liquidation.

  11. Tonga tribalism has begun manifesting itself on this topic,i warn you tonga’s ifya mafi muleke,Sata is the only way to go whether u like it or not…

  12. Terrific, amazing, not surprising, the same old story. This AG report came out early this year and blant figures were mentioned where are these coming from now its now that HH has read the report or trying to lift his face aftermath of the lost election at 500 votes. Our leaders are not doing us good but just talking instead of action. Anyone who follows this, know that a list of civil servants was released sometime this without mentioning names of those who misapprociated funds. Lack of transp-

  13. Zambia to construct sub-station for largest copper mining firm

Copperbelt Energy Corporation of Zambia has invested 30 million U.S. dollars to construct a sub- station and transmission lines in Chililabombwe of Copperbelt province to provide additional power supply for Konkola Copper Mines from 180 MW to 350 MW.

  14. Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) northern area reinforcement projects operations officer Danny Maimbo said the contractor is already on site and works have started with commissioning date scheduled for September 2008, The Post reported Monday.

  15. “With the ongoing mining activities, CEC must provide additional reliable power in view of the expected increase in the power demand for Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), the largest copper mining corporation in the copper-producing country, from the present level of 180 MW to 350 MW,” Maimbo said.

  16. “And in order to supply additional power and meet the demand from the mining expansions at KCM and other mining ventures in the area, CEC is putting up power transmission lines in Chingola and Chililabombwe.”He said CEC would also construct one new sub-station to be called Bancroft Central in Chililabombwe and would carry out major expansion works at Michelo sub-station in the same town.

  17. The new sub-station would be located between Kamenza Mine Township and the KCM concentrator.CEC was formerly a Power Division under the defunct state mining conglomerate, the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM), and was mainly established to ensure reliable supply to the mining industry in the province. And last week CEC announced its intention to off-load 20 percent shares to the public at the Lusaka Stock Exchange.

  18. Lusaka – Car sales are booming in the poor south-east African nation of Zambia as strong economic growth puts more money in the pockets of ordinary Zambians, but the country’s crumbling roads network means motorists are going nowhere fast.

  19. Motor vehicle imports rose from around 2,000 units a month in 2006 to around 4,000 units a month in 2007, Roads Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) spokesperson Mercy Mwila told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa in Lusaka at the weekend.

  20. Streets in the capital Lusaka designed for thousands of cars are creaking under the weight of a car population estimated at about 100,000 for an estimated 1.3 million residents.

  21. While congestion is most acute in large towns and cities even rural towns and hamlets are experiencing gridlock, according to the RTSA.

High prices for copper, of which Zambia is one of Africa’s main producers, have fuelled strong growth of 5 per cent in 2006, expected to climb to 7 per cent this year.

  22. #14 you are not analytical but tribalist.Who are imposing ur uncle on? I did not say HH for president if anything I touched on why he cannot. We need fresh ideas I said.Tell us what has SATAnic left to do for Zed? That he could not since 1975.Basic education , rightly said is needed, apply ur mind not emotions here.Who are u warning anyway? Are u part of a certain taiwanese sponsorship too? Ur uncle talks for Taiwan not for Zed, do not be decieved.I cannot repeat ur tone coz its not “ON”.

  23. The government of President Levy Mwanawasa has declared improving the roads infrastructure a priority and plans to spend about 800 million dollars to upgrade roads over the next five years. The economic boom and skyrocketing oil prices have led Bank of Zambia governor Caleb Fundanga to say a 7-per-cent inflation target for 2007 would not be achieved.Inflation is currently running at around 9 per cent.

25. Common sense has finally reached a point of not making sence in our country, Zambia. We have the degree holders in all the relevant fields but whats really the problem? Is it because of our povert striken back grounds? And the ideas of telling people to get educated and look for employment is eating us up.If we could only come up with a mind set whereby our kids are taught how to run businesses maybe that would make a difference.Getting reach through employment is the thing driving us backward.

  26. #18 – 26 and 28-29 ulichipuba i think you are a Tonga who lacks manners,go to hell with your Mad Muwelewele Devils MMD, just write about your ilenda presdo, stop using my ID you *****

  28. We need to change gents. Its not that when you come from the University without anything and become a director gives an access to plunder the existing companies. We need just to work hard out of the salaries we are given.

  29. We always blame the people in government, but some times change might come from the grassroot to the top.At grass root corruption begins.

  30. Mushindike #31-32
What’s all this hate you have for your brothers from southern province? Will you learn to love everyone regardless of their tribe. I even wonder if are really Bemba, don’t tarnish the image of real Bembas. You are from Congo just like your elder brother FTJ.

  31. I cant believe the degree of arogance being exibited by these bemba tribalist, especially ba Ndola, and pliz let us consider the head line when blogging stupid talk will not lead us any where, and # 14 i know u watch your ass!

  34. Wanzelu 34
These guys are nyamulenges from Congo with the aim destabilising our nation. They should be deported immediately. ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION is our motto.

  35. HE Sata is providing checks and balance in this New thieves gov,HH has proved himself coward and incapable to become presido.achepa sana

  37. ALCOHOL A FACTOR IN ZAMBIA DEATHS

The sale of alcohol at Konkola Stadium was the primary cause of a stampede that killed 12 fans in Zambia, a report has revealed. The incident occurred in June after Zambia beat the Republic of Congo 3-0 in a Ghana 2008 Africa Cup qualifier. The fans were crushed to death as they left Konkola Stadium in the Copperbelt town of Chililabombwe.

  38. Zambia’s President Levy Mwanawasa ordered an inquiry in the aftermath of the tragedy that also led to 46 people needing hospital treatment. On the release of the report, Sports Minister Gabriel Namulambe told parliament the sale of alcohol inside and outside the arena was the main cause.”Alcohol contributed significantly to the stampede as it caused general unruliness by drunken hooligans,” Namulambe said.

  39. This became a problem in a venue already overcrowded by the re-selling of match tickets. In addition, a delayed kick-off meant the game ended at dusk which caused more problems.”This led to a panic situation as most of the spectators who had travelled from other towns had to rush out of the stadium in order to get on buses to their respective places,” Namulambe explained.

  40. Alcohol contributed significantly to the stampede as it caused general unruliness by drunken hooligans.Gabriel Namulambe, Zambia Sports Minister Poor visibility, lack of proper crowd control and security lapses all contributed to the ensuing confusion.A fight started at one of the gates as pick-pockets took advantage of the dusk and started stealing cell-phones and money from the crowd.

  41. Some fans were caught up in the disturbance and were crushed to death.Despite the tragedy, however, Konkola stadium could host Zambia’s 2010 World Cup qualifiers. The Independence stadium, Zambia’s biggest arena, is currently undergoing rehabilitation leaving Konkola as the only alternative venue.

  42. Ba Joze (42),
Its like since FACT first used the world “brute” here in describing your behavior having been using the late Ronald Penza’s name, you have blindly parroted “brute” without shame. This is the third time seeing you using it within a span of 3 days. I have no doubt you lack the ability to understand where it fits in usage. Mindful of parroting some words from FACT. He is an experienced and propandist with communication skills capable of confusing you while he consolidates his positi

  43. Sata supporters read article by Kaunda in Ukzambians.com. Dont tell me, Sata is your only hope, Hope for whatTo continue plundering. Sata is a fossil, and national heritage we should preserve for future reference as the most brutal useless, egoistic leader of the Thugs.
Any dignified person worth the salt would never put his vote for that lunatic

  44. #43 Spinka don’t dare me you *****, HH takuli mwaloba ilyauma pa zed, never never at all,at all will HH rule zed this i can bet. Niba Hon SATA come 2011

  45. #56 HK Waloba ilyauma pa zed niba Hon SATA, there’s nothing you chaps can tell us,Go and hang yourself with kaunda. Hon SATA is the only hope pa zed. Tuzamilola ba Mad Muwelewele Devils MMD come 2011

  46. A message for our little ones signed up for candies from Sata. To be widely abhorred as insane as Sata, is not synonymous with electability to national leadership. Until you recognize the centrality, and plurality of power politics you risk burning out again for nothing come 2011. I respect your myths, freedom of choice and dimension of the dissatisfaction in you.

  47. Sadly, most of these hopeless PF thugs here devoted to insults have rejected and marginalized helpful reflectivist mechanics to rationally appreciate that one can only do much in his youthful days. Sata hit his Marginal Curve way back at the age of 60. At 76, he is a misfit to the 21 st century causes. He wouldn’t understand any counsel from Decision Scientists and Policy Experts.

  48. Mark my words, the MMD will win the Elections in 2011. All they have to do is chose a balanced person. Even it means waking him up from his sleep. We need a better president than Mwanawasa, and it can never be Sata. So since HH is Tonga and from some circles Tonga should not be Presidents in Zambia, then they must be King makers because they are very influential Politically..

  49. What is seen here is typical of Sata’s political machination heavily reliant on primitive, Grade 12 dropout thugs, hooligans and hoodlums. Their relevance is to help him inhibit public logic and manipulate the call for intra-party democracy and ensure foolproof political campaigns and electioneering, if any.I can assure you that none of Sata’s thugs here have sound education or decent family lives worth admiring admissible on the foreign market under “Category A or B” not even C.

  50. All this swath of the illiterates is for his own survival, to “deal” with intra-party political opponents’ potential of challenging his illegitimate position in PF, and to cause chaos. The Chawama debacle we recall. My advice I repeat here is that “thuggish Political godfatherism and patronage” cannot be a means of one’s livelihood and must be discouraged at all levels of PF.

  51. (64),
Non quantifiable assumptions are the lowest form of knowledge. Deductively or inductively explicate your assumption. I’m an open minded empiricist deep in Research Design and and Methods scientifically. May LT rise to the occasion and carry discourses to the level of the intelligensia ignoring the “Bipolar kids with their split personality” like Joze

I believe in incrementalism and very mindful of the “Marginal costs and marginal benefits” even in public manadates.

    Sata has hit his MC.

  52. No widely exposed progressive and soundly educated citizen would look to Sata for leadership. Except a legion of primitive Desperado whose stay in the Diaspora has been ruined by lack of foresight, endurance, and self restraint. Most of such have indulge in costly long term options. My encouragement to the visionary is that there is a definite future for you who have persevered, restrained, believed God’s faithfulness in all odds.

  53. From the age of 28 and beyond, no basic education, no decent family to comfort them excerpt cohabitations with concubines, no jobs or commercial life line due to their over dependency syndrome has locked many in the PF thuggery class of hopeless against hope. This is why sata is now abusing them for insults. The so called “Ba Jose is a prototype of a Bipolar thug with a split personality”.

  54. #57 Mushindike
That’s bullshit. Just go back to Ituri forest with your brother kafupi. You are a bad seed in our country. You’ve sown a seed of ugliness.

  55. can`t believe they are pipo who can be so forgettiful, rwanda, burundi, should ring a bell in you minds, keep your opions to yourselves time will tell, for the love of peace, thimk twice be4 you say some staff which creates to tribal war,don\t be cheated that they is one tribe stronger than the other, let chanda and mwiinga play, marry and make love than trying to make them fight,

  56. #68 Iwe chikala, whether you like it or not your tonga HH will never rule this country like i said Mabis has confused you to the extent that you can’t think like a human being you are just thinking like a cow. Yalila n’gombe yalila n’gombe bu bu bu bu. Iwe chimumbwa mumbwa

  57. Bloggers, blogging tribal: Tonga/Bemba. Dont waste your energies. We are all just critics. HH has Bemba henchmen who he would carry into his circles if he got the presidency. Sata too has Tonga henchmen who he would march with him if he got the presidency. They will be enjoying the priviledges of power whilst you spectators will be busy hacking each other. GROW UP It is not bloggers who will decide. It is the voters.ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION.

  58. Yangua ine uluse kuli PragMAFist mwe!We used to hear such kind of utterances from Kamalondo, kashi niwe wapyana imishinga yabayashi. It’s Sad mune PragMAFist, apali ichishimba cabulwele bwakusata balekulapo inganda yakwa Dr Chuchu.
Quote:”From the age of 28 and beyond, no basic education, no decent family to comfort them excerpt cohabitations with concubines”
Iwe PragMAFist, this suits your boss Rupia who has married a 20 yr grandchild coz of Viagra alecibaula.Mind you, you’re 72 yrs still blog

  59. #54 Observer waba icimina ka-yellow na manongo plus namakapa ya chibubu kumwefyu. What’s your problem? If you have issues of becoming a straight chap and not gay like your client Mmembe talk to Rev Pule.Mind you, pipo here are contributing to the topic and not putting your a** down as detractor. The word BRUTE is not not only found in FACTless’s lexicon.I’m certain you are MAD KWATI ni PragMAFist aged 72 who taught together with late Kafumokache at Chinzongwe were he used to smoke dagga with pupils

  60. #74 mala – msana wandalama
HH is not a polygamist but a nymph in politics and his political approach can only suit mid east region. The shoes Andy left him are too big, that’s why I said Prof Hachilense would have done better.
#56 Dr HK (Haboongo Kanjamba, you are back with your half banked reasoning capacity te?Whether you like or NOT HE Sata will rule MY country, come 2011.

  61. #66 iwe PragMAFist
just talk about your fellow brainwashed chap Factless who always come “nyoo nyoo nyooo zero value, nyoo nyoo nyooo zero value” tell IT to change we are all fed up with him and he must go to hell and get castrated.

  62. strange how you people take these politics so personal, adding some emotions, talk about issues, you know what+, when you hate people? the only person who is hurt more is you,cos some people don\t know that you ahet them and for those who know don`t care, what you say means nothing to them, you can say all sorts of shit on the bembas or tongas , pliz do you think you will win , pliz , lets grow up and talk about issues, lets talk about what sata or HH can tackle the problems facing zadians,GOD BLESS

  63. y2k ,
You sound a human being from a responsible organized family background unlike the Bipolar primate with personality disorder in # 78. He is too blank with where he is coming from to where he heading too. Multiple deficiencies and disorders from communication, language to thought process. Its a shame that sata could adopt such a one when there many mentally sound young Zambians. Check his troubled Bemba or English. Ask him what Zambians language he could try.

  64. HH is rich, Mwanawasa moves and lives with AC facilities with access to everything that affluence gives.FACT and Pragmatist are educated and have actualized their lives. Precisely FACT is young and a professional with a far much rewarding international job of Ba Joze whom they look down as a futureless stranded street kid.Joze dreams with ignorance thinking in the face of power the insulted they care about his mental strifes.

  65. Shikulu bantu ba Pragmatist at 72yrs you are no different from Ba Jose at 28yrs. Your conduct and behaviour are the same as 28yrs Jose, pls shikulu grow up, when are you going to get mature in mind. Blogging with big words which most pipo can hardly understanding is not being educated, it is actually fooling yourself.

  66. Its amazing how people are quick to label others tribalists (#14). When the bembas support Sata its not tribalism, its called being smart! My foot. Am not Tonga myself but if HH says something sensible why should he be insulted and from nowhere bring Sata in the picture. Let us be objective and not pay blind loyalty to tribe. It will destroy us as a nation.

  67. Number 14&32!I will take that it’s only acceptable for bemba’s to practice tribalism. whether we like it or not triblism plays a major role in zambian politics. only a fool would be stupid enough not to take note. Sata will have a stroke by 2011….the man is old. we do not need over recycled chaps. why settle for less when we have able and educated gentlemen like HH? very soon you loosers will start advocating for William Banda as sata’s vice? it is time for our generation to take charge.

  68. Ba Zambia what’s wrong with us. we still cannot agree on the presidential candidate? Mpombo would have made a great candidate, but unfortunately the man still breast feeds from his old mother? we have all seen his actions when he misses his mother’s breast? the man can do anything for breast milk?

  69. Tribalism again, stop na man!!! Zambia deserves better and God is gonna intervene in this matter so calm down brethren. God is the one who appoints people in high authority and he is going to intervene in Zambian politics.
