Striker Felix Sunzu has joined Zambia national team at the Africa Cup tournament in Kumasi.

The Konkola Blades and Zambia Under-23 striker joined the team on Thursday evening after cutting short his trial spell at Tunisian club Avenir de La Marsa.

Sunzu’s arrival ends much uncertainty as to whether the Under-23 striker would make the trip to Ghana following his late call-up as Collins Mbesuma replacement.

Sunszu replaced Mbesuma after the striker from Bursaspor in Turkey was dropped due to poor form.

The Blades striker has five senior caps after receiving his debut for Zambia under Patrick Phiri at the 2006 Cecafa Cup finals in Ethiopia.

Sunzu has 8 scored goals at Under-23 level in 11 Olympic and All-Africa games outings.

ZESCO UNITED HEAD FOR THE ARABIAN GULF

Zesco United fly out from Lusaka on Sunday at 10:20 on an 18-day training camp in United Arab Emirates.

The defending league champions are taking a 26-member team to UAE.

Zesco are expected to play friendly matches against local league teams while some warm-up games with clubs from Saudi Arabia are also planned.

The Ndola club returns home on February 8.

Zesco will a week later head off to Uganda to play their opening CAF Africa Champions League match against Uganda Revenue Authority FC.

  1. Good that the boy Felix has joined the team but I still don’t understand why Tana was excluded even the coach himself has admitted that the team has problems in defence. On the Zesco outing to Saudi Arabia, thats is positive, thats what we need, companies that are committed to exposing their footballers and their coaches. I think after this tournament, Wedson Nyirenda should be attached to the senior team, he could be “the special one” for Zambian football.

  2. Another cause of the Sudanese success is their cohesion. Making their first appearance in the finals since 1972, the Desert Hawks have plucked their entire squad from just two clubs, Al Merreikh and Al Hilal. The latter made it to semi-finals of this season’s African Champions League before losing on penalties to eventual winners Etoile du Sahel, while the former got all the way to the Confederations Cup final before also falling to Tunisian adversaries. Since all Al Hilal’s best forwards are

  3. Al Merreikh will be well represented in Ghana. As well as contributing half the Sudanese squad and its manager, they were Pfister’s employers before he was headhunted by Cameroon. What’s more, their towering centre-back Elijah Tana was expected to join up with Zambia, for whom he has long been a stalwart, but Zambia manager, Patrik Phiri, provoked national uproar by leaving out the 32-year-old after he missed a flight to a training camp in December. Injuries have also forced Phiri to omit Coll

  4. Injuries have also forced Phiri to omit Collins Mbesuma and Germany-based duo Moses Sichone and Andrew Sinkala, meaning the Zambians flew to Ghana without the core of the team that qualified (winning 3-1 in Cape Town to top the group ahead of South Africa).

  5. Zambia failing to score against a 7th placed club and we expect them to beat Sudan. They havent scored in the previous 4 games.

  6. Mu Zambia ubupuba maningi! Even Chris Katongo said it, plain and simple,” football is not by talking” Chi Patrick Phiri always yaps about how the team is creating chances, He has no clue how to strategise. He could have take advantage of the fact that Sudan’s sticking force is all from Tana’s club. And a win against them is our life line. Tana could have effectively stopped those tall Sidanese strikers, but due to PP’s stupidity, we will be humiliated yet again.

  7. iwe ka myself #9, nifwaka or chani kansi? what do you mean by saying PP doesn’t know how to strategise? PP conquered east, central Africa & ended as runner-up in the COSAFA before coming to Ghana so foot judge him by that nil-all friendly.

  8. iwe chipuba, cant you see that we are failing to score? you zulu crankshaft 83. PP only picks his blue eyed boys. Look at how we were begging moses sichone all this while!
just look at the disorganization. We are bombing out in the first round. Sudan is no push over and FAZ is getting sacked.

  9. Imwe bakoswe #9 & 11.
PP can come 2 your house, clean your dishes & wipe your a$$ After you use th toilet but you wont appreciate him and just like with B Bafunchile, you’ll realise he’s a national treasure after he’s taken from you…

  10. …to be in Ghana today, PP had to to crush the highly paid Carlos Alberto Perrera(who makes more money than president Mbeki) and his team that comprised of key highly paid players from the likes of Eveton, Blackburn Rovers, Panathinaikos, Club Brugge etc.

  11. OK i agree that Phiri has achieved something but apalifye inkanda yafita, Zed tapali uko ileya. Zambia is the weakest team at afcon and so is its govt that sent the lads up there. Kaput!

  12. Twabaleka ba Phiri!

Nomba bane shuwa, lelo ni saturday and still Lefi teti afunyeko akapiya abekalachalo batambeko tu bola?

    Kwena kateka wesu alikosa umutima!

Or maybe alefwaya ukufumya pa last minute so that he seems hardworking.

  13. not long to go now, let’s be optimistic but not over confident, give our team support again. people expect us to loose in talk and on paper, those big name teams, eto, drogba… those club cup finalists, those foreign coaches. they still need to beat us on the day.

  14. I don’t really what to say! its like Zambians like experimenting. Come on, we have to be serious. Surely what do expect if we cannot score during preps?

  15. I don’t really know what to say! its like Zambians like experimenting. Come on, we have to be serious. Surely what do expect if we cannot score during preps?

  16. And you muslim guy, why do you hate Zambia? What are you trying to achieve throug your continued attacks on Zambian supportes and why do you want to involve religion?
when we Zambians play anyone, we don’t care about there religion or race and as far as i can remember, we never made enemies with any arabia nations.

  17. cheer your nation, we won’t have a problem with that because we are peace loving people who respect anyone regardless of there race or religion.
you wont succeed if you’re trying to start a holy war with us because we are not enterested. try the USA or the UK.

  18. We will be getting the results after 90 mins in each game that Zambia plays so lets stop the been unsure of the results and be positive. We might go far or not, that will always be a lesson for our coaching staff as they will always claim. What we need from the team as for now is good results…..that is all.

  19. i personally see zambia having a tough first march against sudan which we are all hoping to win.We must not underate sudan but play it with due respect but one thing i want to believe is that either egpty or cameroun will have a serious suprise from zambia because one of them will underate us big time.im also not gonna add preusre to the team to win the cup but i just want them to do better than last time.Good luck chipolopolo

  20. Annonymous, you talking about Zambia not scoring, how many goals did your team, Sudan score against Guinea? You were given a 6-0 bashing. That means you have an extremely poor defence and an extremely poor strkeforce. So keep quiet and wait for game.

  21. Zesco going to UAE, WHEN BACK HOME THERE ARE FLOODS & NOW BLACK OUT?

Zambians, lets read the results from BBC, no TV back home.

  22. AFCON to start with opener between hosts Ghana “the black stars” Vs Guinea. I predict a tough match with a draw being the most possible result, however I have a feeling Guinea will surprise Ghana. The match is live on Eurosport 1 and kicksoff at 18:00 hours. I really look forward to watching African football nafuti, it is very enjoyable pantu mwaliba imi ngalato. Can,t wait for Tuesday

  23. I am not impreesd by both Teams Ghana and Guinea, they are really crap, short, fat and heavy, they ar playing crap football as farAfrican soccer yaba

  24. Zambia and Cameroun will go through to the next round. No doubt about it. Sudan will be humiliated by Zambia. Zambia 3, Sudan 0. PERIOD

  25. #43 Americans don’t watch soccer, nonetheless AFCON. To them it’s the most boring sport ever(I don’t support them on that.)Most of them still think Africa is one country not Continent. For this reason,American T.V Networks don’t bother televising “boring” sport, i think that’s why # 42 was making an inquiry.

  26. Lets be behind our team there is nothing we can do for now we should not cry our spelt milk lets first see what happened s if they lose will kick some ass out of the office

  27. Sunzu or no Sunzu we must win today’s game. Sudan does not fare well outside of Khartoum and they haven’t been to a nations cup final for over 30 years a long time indeed. The whole thing will be strange to them so we have a chance to take advantage of their jitteriness and put many goals past them. Patrick Phiri: dont let any of our boys be intimidated by any player they have seen on TV at these finals. The fact that we dont see our players on TV doesn’t mean they are not international class

  28. We did not have television soccer stars when we reached the finals previously. What we did then we can do now. You can win the tournament Just remember there are 11 players against 11. Patrick Phiri this is your year. Phiris will prosper this year. So go shock the football world Chipolopolo. Win the 2008 Nations Cup!
