President Mwanawasa has elevated Commerce Deputy Minister, Dora Siliya to a Cabinet Minister at the Ministry of Transport and Communication.
Mrs. Siliya replaces former Transport and Communications Minister, Sara Sayifwanda who has moved to the Ministry of Agriculture in the same capacity.
Dr Mwanawasa said Mrs. Sayifwanda will be working along side with, Ben Kapita who is still recuperating from sickness.
He was speaking during a press briefing at State house.
Dr Mwanawasa said he cannot retire Mr. Kapita because he is one of his best minister and will give him chance to recuperate.
He also said Mr. Kapita’s sickness is not beyond redemption.
And Dr. Mwanawasa has also appointed Veteran politician, Daniel Munkombwe as Southern Province Minister.
The President has also nominated Mr. Munkombwe as a member of parliament.
Mr. Munkombwe replaces former Provincial Minister, Joseph Mulyata was.
Meanwhile, President Mwanawasa has congratulated the Patriotic Front (PF) for scooping the Kanyama seat.
The President said the people of Kanyama had made their choice.
He was responding to a question from a journalist during the press briefing at State House.
The PF’s Gerry Chanda scooped the seat beating seven other contenders.

Not to judge the abilities of Sara Sayifwanda, I just think that Mwanawasa should have taken Sylvia Masebo to Agriculture and retire Ben Kapita. Agriculture right now needs a single able minister rather than create unnecessary conditions for conflict by having two incumbents (Sara and Ben) serving in the same position. The likely conflict will paralyze a ministry that is presently as critical to the Zambian economy as the Mines, especially that crop-forecasts for this season don’t look good due to widespread floods. Dora is equally good, but she’s best if retained at Commerce for now. Sylvia is intelligent, practical and very versatile. Agriculture needs exactly such a person right now.

Even though i dont know and have never met you,it is very gratifying that along with you there is a new leadership corp of pioneering women leaders who will be the beacon for our younger female generation, for too long left behind in both the educational and professional worlds. Wow!! we will never change as Zambians. There is just too much hatred and Jealous among Zambians. We do not want to see anybody else prosper. if you are doing well in our country, people will start calling you names (witch, thief, iwule ) even if that somebody is being bless by God.Let us learn to appreciate what others have achieved and not trying to bring them down

I wish to congratulate you on your website which is very informative and educate. The interaction with the masses is great too and I guess this shows how developed our press freedom has become. I, though, want to disagree with the many comments a lot of people make in response to articles. Many are very disrespectful especially to our national leaders. We are Zambian, Africans and respect for elders is a core principle.
Insults especially to leaders is not part of our culture and if it continues, shame on our current generation. If this is what we call press freedom, then we have misplaced ourselves.
Press freedom means expression our opinions on issues or even disagreeing with others in a respectful way. Insults are a thing of the colonial era.
Zambian, let us learn form the politics that saw Barrack Obama being nominated as Presidential Democratic Party Nominee. He criticized Hilary Clinton but both run campaigns that never attacked each other on a personal level. That is the kind of politics as Zambians we should embrace. So all of you who post comments on this site, please watch your mouths. You are sending a wrong signal to the world and to the future generations. The ‘f’ word and the ‘s’ word has no place in the Zambian society.

I was with Dora at UNZA and I was also with her at University of Cambridge UK. She used to cook us Nshima while in Cambridge! The lady has worked hard. Some of the people posting here only know how to ‘talk the talk’ but they can’t ‘walk the walk’. I’ve been away from Zambia for over 10 years now and living outside the country has really opened my eyes. There are so many opportunities in Zambia. If more people stopped to think about about these opportunities and did something, there would be little time to engage in length political arguments. I’m starting various construction projects Zambia this year. If only more Zambians could drink less and actually spend more time working.
