ZANIS reports FIFA/ Coca Cola continental rankings showing that Zambia has in the month of June scored 462 points from 465 points the senior team had in May.

The senior chipolopolos boys have in the month of June lost three vital points to take the 70 th position in the world with 462 points on the FIFA world rankings.

Cameroon still leads the table as the best team in Africa and has attained three more points to 1041 points followed Ghana who have 986 points although the latter has dropped three points.

On the world rankings, the West African giants are the 13 th in the world having attained 1041 points and are 55 points ahead of the 2008 Confederation of African (CAF) championships hosts Ghana, who lost two points to end the month of June with 986 points.

The 2008 Africa champions, Egypt are on the third best African country having gained seven points to be at 848 points.

The Pharaohs are 23 best in the world with 848 points having gone up seven points.

  1. The coach says develop better infrastructure. It is disheartening that our govt never always sees the connection.

  2. We must take every game seriously. The GVt nust also be serious in developing soccer infrustructure. How can we not have a decent stadium?Shameful!!!!Are really proud of our country? In this day and age we must have had a number of stadia in the country.Even if the GVT cant afford to buld it can find partners to do so.Theres the talk about Dag but how many times have we heard about it.The leading archtect for some of SA stadiums for the 2010 word cup is Zambian. Why cant we use them at home????

  3. chapwa fye nomba. its annoying to see us drop down the ranks knowing how much soccer potential we have.
One thing that would really help is embarking on a long term rebuilding program that should include tapping talent at grass root level and having some form of consistency both in successful coaches and national youth teams.

  4. Countrymen !!you have brought some interesting issues which I think should have been discussed during the Faz campaign elections.Instead of speaking issues those guyz were busy telling us of their personal achievements .Lets be serious once again, you can just vote a person into office just because he is known in south africa or anywhere,we should have seriously looked at their manifestos, ability to deliver ,team work, listen and not their personal achievements.

  5. are we just expiring or what?love zedian football but his isn´t something to be proud of.Senior players dontti ifyo!!!!!!

  6. These rankings are not a true reflection of who is stronger on the field of play.they are hypothetical so guys dont stress.Just bring togo on an we shall blow them with bullets

  7. Tu ma Chinese are supposed to build one stadium in Ndola. we are told soil samples have been taken to some lab in china but this has taken months and faz/ sports ministry are not updating us. As long as we continue to use konkola, nkoloma, musa kasonka, edwin imboela facilities we wont improve our game standards.

  8. Zambia having dropped three points just in the month of june alone is a very sad and critical story. But from the way the team has performed over the last few weeks, losing three points is possible and if the problems are not solved now there is a possibility of even falling further. We struggled with Swaziland on two occasions in june and lost to togo earlier on,so I feel there is need for the technical staff to work hard and rectify all the problems that are hindering the National team from performing well.

  9. Dont take these rankings seriously, they dont mean much. Spain has not lost a single game in 23 matches and are now EU champs and yet they have dropped 3 points! Argentina has not won more than two games and yet they have gained points! The formula used for ranking does not really make sense. Lets work on our weaknesses and cement our strengths regardless of the rankings. Good facilities are a must.

  10. Soccer Fan #2.I don’t expect them to ranked higher than Holland,Croatia,Russia and even teams like Turkey,Czech Rep.should be ranked higher.
Anyway the latest rankings released today (02/07/08)England is #15.

    1.Spain
    2.Italy
    3.Germany
    4.Brazil
    5.Holland
    6.Argentina
    7.Croatia
    8.Czech Rep
    9.Portugal
    10.France
    11.Russia

This a bit fair cos teams like Russia & Croatia have been playing better football than England and England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 in a group with these 2 teams.

  11. 17, Billy, Mbesuma is on the front page of Kick Off magazine, latest, buy and read, maybe they no. I just saw cover but did not buy.

  12. Chipolopolo MUST beat Togo to qualify for the next round of qualifiers. Period. Only a win will be good enough. A draw won’t be good enough. Togo is likely to beat Swaziland in west Africa and only a win for Chipolopolo will see them through. Peace!

  13. 17 Billy, the last time i heard was that mbesuma was back in turkey finalising a few things. Kaizer chiefs are willing to buy him and resurrect his career, but he’s asking for too much money, mamelodi sundowns is in the race but it will not be a good option for him to join them as they don’t develop players except buying finished and experienced ones. But mbesuma still needs to develop and Kaizer Chiefs will be the right place for him.So mr Mbesuma get what’s on offer now or lose and live to regrate, the coach still has one more spot for a foreign player TAKE IT!!!!!!!!!! DAMIT..

  14. ZAMBIAN PLAYERS FEEL THIS IS OK AS THEY DON’T WANT MORE MONEY AT ALL.THE LITTLE THEY RECEIVE IS ENOUGH TO BUY ICI BATTERY.

  15. THE ZAMBIAN NATIONAL TEAM SHOULD TAKE A LEAVE FOR ABOUT A YEAR OR SO.
THEY SHOULD SKIP THE NEXT AFRICAN NATIONS CUP.THEY’VE TO DISBAND THE WHOLE TEAM AND START AFRESH.YEAR IN AND OUT NOTHING HAPPENS.
THEY CAN’T EVEN REACH THE KNOCK -OUT STAGES!SHAME ON US!INVEST IN SPORTING INFRASTRUCTURE AND DO RESTRUCTURIZATION PLEASE!!!

  16. #28 The National team taking a leave for a year or so is not the solution to any of the problems of underperformance.Zambia failed to qualify for AFCON 2004,but even that free time they had nothing positive was done. That is a clear indication that even if we were to skip the next AFCON still we will be just the same. The problem lies in the FAZ Management team and the technical staff who continue changing teams every AFCON, if they can maintain one team may be somthing positive can be seen.

  17. It is difficult to maintain a team if the players cannot keep their form or discipline and play regularly for their teams. Its not only faz to blame but the players themselves. We need a professional league for us to be able to have players on form. Players should be chosen on current form and not yesteryears form. Figo and Rau for Portugal and Spain respectively, Rhonadinho for Brazil, Owen and Beckham of England have all been recently dropped from their national teams for lack of form.

  18. These are just numbers that do not mean a thing, there are guys I used to beat in class who have made better professionals than me, so football is football and the better team wins, by the way who thought spain would be the euro champions, greece in 2004 who thought, anso greece 2004 nimanvela chifukushi because I lost a bet!!! So Zambia forward and like Sibs said what is England doing up there, me friendlies with teams like San Marino who ever they are?!!

  19. Why is Zambia wooing investors? Simple. More investment, more opportunity. More opportunity, more wealth. More wealth, more growth. More growth, more success. And if you wish, less and less poverty. Innovation is important and success can be correlated to investment. Zambia should invest in soccer to expect good returns. Please GRZ spare us unnecessary heartaches by investing in infrastructure and the rest will fall into place. Garbage in garbage out, full stop.

  20. The rankings might not mean much on the playing field but they count when it comes to players joining clubs abroad (e.g england). C’mon zambia, lets get back where we belong!

  21. Boss well thought out argument.
I belive Zambia gets what it puts in.How can we be no1 without a proper national stadium? We are where we are because that is where we deserve to be.The rankings also consider who you are playing,so its not only winning games but what games they are too.Look at our league.a top scoer half way though the season has only 8 goals. So whatever we see is a true picture given the calibre of players, resources available in the country and the calibre of the leaders both nationally(ministry of sport) and FAZ itself.Lets continue supporting our country to improve from where we are

  22. Remember we couldnt afford a top class coach but an assistant of our African opponents then you want to be on top. This is our rightful position and should accept it and aim to improve. What you sow is what you reap.
Football is no longer a cheap game, hard work, investment, committment, pride, dedication, planning etc etc should go into it before yielding fruits.2010 is comming and the W/C is in our backyard does any one know how we are taking advantage of this?Any plans in place.Have we seen any international stars conducting coaching clinics in Zambia?Man u is in Nigeria,SA later this month.Imagine Ronaldo,Ferdinand in Zambia. All this goes into promoting the game at all levels

  23. Actaually the isssue of Zambia having opted for an assistant coach of our opponents is a very big topic which should be subject to discussion. In this case #37 is right, how can we even hope to be on top in this kind of situation.Ba patrick Phiri twatamfya thinking the white man will reddem Zambin soccer standards, kanshi twayapwila umulilo pa makasa.Today Fifa rankings are showing us our position since Phiri left.

  24. What zambia needs is bringing the youth team in to play. Jioning the the youth team with the national team. The FA sould look in to future and have soccer school around the country.

  25. If good infrasturctures made teams England would be world champions in soccer!! I would rather we build a good hospital than a stadium. Until our soccer teams start winning or qualifying to the world stage.

What stadiums are in Togo and yet they went to the world cup.
Bane be objective in your cries.

  26. ba zambia mulimakula fye,, stop wasting time and money,, but anyway the french guy seems to be a bit bright and full of plans. give him time…

  27. I think this time we have a coach who is ableto admit the weaknesses of the team and not our previous trainers who just carried on with the job even when things were not working out. For instance at the AFCON 2008, everyone saw that the defence was porous yet Mr. Patrick Phiri never saw the need until Cameroun pumped 5 past us, then he dropped Nketani. By all means, lets give support to Renard, though he was an assistant previously he has a good understanding of the game.

  28. # 40. Its you who needs to be objective. How can you not see the importance of having good sports facilities. It is the lcak of such facilities that has a bearing on the amount of investment coming into the game. An improvement in this regard will help to attract corporate sponsorship at a level we have not witnessed. For your own information, one of the reasons why the deal to air our local league on Supersport hasn’t kicked off yet is the lack of proper facilities. It may also interest you to know that we have missed out several times on hosting the Africa Cup and other events. In 1988, we were banned by CAF for having failed to host this prestigious event. It’s a shame.

  29. #40
May I also add that if you had your facts right, you would know that Togo have a far much better National Stadium than anything we have. They were banned from using it due to bad behaviour of their fans when they lost a home game to Mali. A check of all the teams that have made it to the World Cup will reveal that that they have some proper structures in which their football thrives. They have other initiatives in place that help their football thrive but good facilities play a big role. You canot wait until you go to the World Cup before you build a stadium. That is a joke and must be seen for what it is.

  30. #40 whether Togo has infrasructure or not Zambia badly need to do something on this issue.44 years bane without any modern stadium, otherwise very soon we will begin playing all our home matches away.If this is the situation that you#40 advocate for then continue with your story, but please be objective
