Zesco United Soar

Share

Young Arrows and Green Buffaloes both tumbled on the restart of the 2nd half of the 2008 Faz League season but Zesco United had literally the last laugh at the Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola on their way to topping the charts.

Young Arrows lost 1-0 away to struggling Konkola Blades at Konkola Stadium while Buffaloes also went down by the same margin at home to Power Dynamos.

However the biggest seismic shock was recorded in Ndola where defending league champions Zesco United mounted a late rally from 1-0 down to win 3-1 to go top of the table and stay unbeaten in two season at home in 23 league games.

This is after Warriors took a 29th minute lead through Emmanuel Mayuka who scored his 10 competitive goal of the season to give Mohamed Fathy men the early lead.

However, Zesco hit back with three late goals through two unknowns; Innocent Mwaba and Fred Kapambwe in the 76th and 79th minutes respectively.

Forgotten Zambia international striker Owen Kaposa scored Zesco’s third and his first of the season in the 81st minute.

Zesco now lead the Faz Premier League table on 28 points, one more that Young Arrows and Buffaloes who both faltered this afternoon in their respective league outings.

Young Arrows lost 1-0 away to Blades who scored through Chipulu Chileya when the striker found the back of the net through a rebound to get the Chililabombwe sides first 3 points in six league games.

Buffaloes on the other hand also lost by the same margin to Power Dynamos with the lone goal in that match played at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka scored by ex-Zambia international striker Rotson Kilambe.

Power’s near neighbors and archrivals Nkana also won today after crushing visiting Roan United 3-0 in Kitwe.

A brace from Nkana’s DR Congo born striker Patrick Kabamba and one from the highly rated new boy Maxwell Phiri from Lusaka Tigers who blasted his debut goal from long-range gave Nkana the 3 points.

Nkana move from 14th to 12th on the table following Saturdays win replacing Roan who slide to 2nd from bottom.

  1. Tough luck GBFC, work hard next time. I watched the zesco game and was impressed with the way warriors played, they controlled most parts of the game. Siloni jere had a good game in midfield while mayuka showed great turnings and awareness in flashes.

  2. GREEN EAGLES PULL UP YOUR SOCKS DONT BE TOURISTS IN THE ELITE LEAGUE WE ARE BEHIND YOU EVEN IF WE ARE NOT WATCHING THE GAMES YOU HAVE PLAYED SO FAR,DRAWING EVERY GAME WHETHER AT HOME OR AWAY IS MAKING US WORRY ABOUT THE TEAMS STAY IN THE ELITE LEAGUE

  3. Let Green Eagles come back into Division 1. They didnt go into the premier with our blessings from all choma fans when the team was reallocated from choma to kabwe after supporting the team from amateur to premier. Some of our friends died in an accident.

  4. Cont.
Some died in an accident some lost their legs and hands bcoz of supporting the team. They will try to win but they will be demoted. How can one marries a village woman bring her in town and after making her clean and beautful mr x come and grab her

  5. Kabwe basically has three stadiums,
one in bwacha mulungushi textiles used,
two the other one ku ma kululu along lusaka road prison leopards used.
The third is rail ground used by warriors and green eagles, blame govt for not developing infrastruture in rural areas, hence them relocating from choma to kabwe,
chipata has a good stadium (DAVID KAUNDA)too ,but due to vandals the ,stadium is in bad shape,we used it once during inter -college games in 2000 ,it can accomodate a premier team provided petauke rangers make it from division one.

  7. IT IS NOT ABOUT BLESSINGS EVEN REBEL-CHILDREN SUCCEED AT SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE FOCUSED, THE PROBLEM WAS ABOUT THE STADIUM AND DISTANCE TO TRAVEL EACH WEEKEND WHEN PLAYING AWAY GAMES ESPECIALLY INVOLVING TEAMS ON THE COPPERBELT NOT NECESSARIRY SHIFTING THE TEAM FROM CHOMA.UNLESS MANAGEMENT HAD RELOCATED THE TEAM IN LUSAKA,THEN I CAN AGREE WITH U.DISTANCE AND THE HOME GROUND WERE A BIG DISADVANTAGE AND CAN STILL BE, BCOS DAYS FOR PRACTICES ARE REDUCED UNLESS THE TEAM IS TRAVELING BY AIR.THE TEAM IS JUST PASSING THRU SUPER LEAGUE- BAPTISM,WHICH ANYOTHER NEWLYPROMOTED TEAM GOES THRU THEY WILL BEAT RELEGATION.

  8. CB BIG SUPPORTER,you are right man EAGLES has an experienced coach in ACKIM MUSENGE, he’s the one who groomed the likes,of Harrison chongo,Allan kamwanga,Efford chabala to mention but a few.Am saying i dont see how a coach of Musenge’s calibre can fail to deliver the goods, the major problem is with management. They need to go an extra mile interms of financing the club or we shall be ejected from Premier league and it will be a bitter pill to swallow to us.

    GO EAGLES GO

  9. ala im super chuffed Kalampa is climbing.. slow but steady.. and Yangu please keep us posted with the table

  10. MANAGEMENT IS DOING ITS BEST THE BOYS HAVE JUST TO DELIVER,THEY MAY BE CARRYING THE DIV 1 HANGOVER OR ARE NOT JUST SETTLED YET,STILL USING THE DIV 1 PLAYERS,WHO MAY SLIGHTLY BE NERVOUS AS TO WHETHER THEY CAN OVERCOME BIG TEAMS, MOST TEAMS POARCH PLAYRES WHEN PROMOTED,WHICH WE HAVE NOT DONE.YES THE COACH IS GOOD, BUT SHOULD NOT LIVE ON PAST GLORY.

  11. iyeeeeeeeeeee praise God Almighty Nkana is safe! Go Nkana go. wateva the outcome i will owez support you. i know we can do it again. soon and very soon we will be there. thanks #15 yangu with the table. iyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Lesa wandi. ba nkana koseni fye nalimishiba, nali mitamba sana.

  12. Aisha you I am supporting your point.
ZANASE`s home ground is in Choma. It will take a long time for the lads to settle. Are they going back to Choma when they don`t make or they will take Young ZANASE next time?

  13. i LIKE THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO RUNNAWAY LOG LEADER THIS TIME AROUND. IT IS VERY MUCH OPEN TO ALL THE 16 TEAMS

  14. Keep it up Nkana.at this moment never mind about da points just concentrate on staying in top league.next year we will look for a position….GOOD LUCK.DIE HARD KALAMPA
