UNZA closed for three weeks

Share

The University of Zambia Great East road campus in Lusaka has been closed following continued industrial unrest at the institution.

The decision to close the institution for three weeks was arrived at by the University senate after a meeting, Wednesday.

UNZA Assistant Public Relations Officer, Stanlous Chewe has confirmed the closure to ZNBC News.

Mr. Chewe however says undergraduate and post graduate programmes in the Schools of Law and Medicine will NOT be affected by the closure.

The students have been given up to Sunday to leave the campus.

Meanwhile, UNZA Registrar, Alvert Ng’andu says the senate reserves the right to review the period of closure depending on any new developments at the institution.

  1. Zambian politians are sick, no vision, so over personal issues you close the University. We pray that you all continue gaining weight and join the Paris Club. Useless generation from the UNIP freebies. MAHALA GENERATION

  2. #3 Spot on mate. Isn`t this one of the reasons we kicked KK out? Development kwisa? Natuleikalafye.

4 year course take 6 years. 5 year course 7 years. Pa Zed bakaamba.

  3. Perpetual closures of the university are becoming a pain in some part of the body. They should just shut that institution permanently or better still turn it into a national hospital or something. I mean, look at the courses they offer at that institution: Philosophy, Invertebrates, Psychology, Library Studies and all that outdated stuff. These courses have no value to the needs of the country and it’s no wonder graduates from that forsaken university room the streets of Zambia like headless chickens. Maybe they can spare the school of education and medicine.

  4. damn!thats not cool.we need the boss in this country as soon as possible, coz to my point of view everyone now wants to exicise their powers.we so sick and tired of being controlled by headless chickens.WE NEED LEVY .PROF lungwangwa is a sucka.twapapata saana get rid of this *****.

  5. UNZA should learn to run independently from Government. Other Universities make it by running accademic based businesses. As more Private Universities come up, UNZA will be made irrelevant because they are always depending on government. Come to think of it, i wonder how many students who were on BC have managed to pay back the loans. Thats the money that should be channeled back into UNZA.

  6. Intellectual. there we go again. no vision for intellectul advancement. what does lungwangwa say. how can he manage a sensitive department when he rejected his own daughter. the bible says dont entrust leadership to someone who fails to manage his home

  7. Unza same old Sh!t different year! This is a shame for a national university. Did Unza by the way get deregisitered from the Association of African Universities? at one point they were threatened with deregistration. Whhat this implies is lack of priorities for our country. All those allowances going to the NCC could have gone to UNZA and all those medical fees for Chiluba, Sata, LPM et all could buy enough equipment for UTH. Yes I do not care that Levy is in France, Do you think that levy cares for my health, would they send you and me to RSA?

  8. That is why I will sponsor my nieces and nephews to University of Namibia and Cape Town, at least they will finsh on time.

  9. A friend of mine studying Uni Closures, and he did it at UNZA. He got A++ and he is Proff now. Classical example Yunza is, for those with the time to continue studying till UNZA closure come.

  10. Just listen to the name; LU NGWA NGWA. What does it sound like? What do you expect from someone with no social responsibility. He last denied having fathered a child when he could all remember evrything when SCR***. Ooooohhh i forgot, he is a causin to Shakafuswa and posibly met at the craal craal. Is this the tipe of gusy you think care an inch about your education? GO TO HELL! He rejected his own blood who do you think you are pursueing your degree?

  11. ati tonga bullu for who?? you sound so pissed off at the composition of courses offered pa unza. Are you one of them first year failures who was forcefully directed to a school you never applied for??
You of all poeple should appreciate a psychologist because they treat people that behave like you.

  12. It is a shame that zambians still think UNZA is the higest learning institution in Zambia, Please Be reminded UNZA is just ONE of the Many High learning Institutions, CBU is a very effect University as a foreigner I really learned alot when I visited CBU unlike UNZA which to me now looks like a refugee camp PLES CBU IS ALSO A HIGH LEARNING INSTITUTION IN YOUR POOR COUNTRY

  13. #8 Awe tata, I beg to differ with your honourable opinion on UNZA problems. UNZA’s problems are unique from that of other learning institutions in Zambia. It’s major problem is finances. The university’s primary business is research, producing academic papers along the way. The sources of finance for research for any university in any progressive country are (1) govt research and national budget allocations (2) research consultancy contracts from both govt and pvt entities (3) student fees and (4) donations from alumni and NGO’s. Now look at UNZA’s case; (1) the govt. has no programmes for research grants and budgetery locations a too small, (2) our politicians gat no idea about what social,

  14. developmental, business, health etc problems country is facing and how they can formulate researched answers and therefore hardly contracts the university in any thing (3) the university cannot charge students economic fees coz of the poor economic background they of students and (4) donations from alumini are none existent becoz no former student has made enough money to make any meaningful donation to anybody coz they exist in a generally poor economy. Almost 90 % of the research that goes on at UNZA is sponsored by grants from other countries…and these countries end up owning the reports. Ask any PhD holder today about their source of funds for their research. They’ll tell you, scholar

  15. scholarship from US, UK, EU or SA nothing local. How can any one expect the university to be relevant locally, or even run when all its sources of funds are virtually non existent. Then there’s the aspect of political interference as well, something not found at ZCAS or ZAMIM. It’s all messed up. COllegues say these problems can only go away once the country gets back to it’s position in 1968.

  16. I see a lot of bitterness in the comments of alot of those who could not make it to the vasity. Any person with brains worth being allowed into vasity cant rejoice over the closure. An educated and informed national is what we need to move forward. Thats why we’ve hopeless leaders in public offices. We need to have an electorate that is informed to get the right people into positions of leadership and not the gwagwazi brains like Miss Bootsy and Shidada. UNZA isnt like some of the southern african universities where the only entry requirement is an ID. If you have gotten ur degree from UNZA and worked with graduates from other vasities especially in Africa you will appreciate UNZA quality.

  17. Ngatawakwata amano kwikalafye dont comment.U failed to get into UNZA but managed to get into University of Namibia because the university there in Namibia couldnt get enough students with IDs from SADC countries. Amano bwipi. I am a UNZA graduate and I am proud of that institution.

  18. Twanaka nabo ba UNZA… This institution like many others in Zambia needs to seriously start looking at ways to generate money for itself. With all the brains out there I don’t know why have failed to figure out a survival stretegy in an increasingly captalist world. Wake up UNZA, the days of handouts are gone.

  19. Da govt is scared that students will put it underpressuer over bashi Chipo’s condition and so the institution had to be closed.

  20. Why is it that we have all these closures and problems in our country which you will not hear of in other countries??

  21. I remember from my LOOONG stint at UNZA….medicine and the many closures made school feel like a profession on its own, but I must say I remember that every closure was a political move to avoid something- am I being hysterical here or is the closure a convinient way to get the students away before any major announcements are made concerning Plot One?

  22. Prof. Lungwangwa is a very useless education minister. he is the most useless of all Education ministers to ever exist in Zambia. for a man with the experience of running the affairs at UNZA and also coming from the education sector, it is a shame to behaviour as though he does not know the problems Lecturers and workers go through at UNZA.he should be fired from that post. what a shame to have UNZA closed at such a time.no wonder the institution has lost favour with the out side world.

  23. as a former unza student im saddened by this news will unza ever be the institution it was decades ago i wonder.does this mean that we should start thinking of sending our children to south africa if at all they are to have a decent education? To those who cannot manage does it mean cavendish or open air university?whats really gone wrong with our education sector i bet it is the same or probably worse off than in zimbabwe.Do we people as zambians really care about the future of our nation?what are we leaving behind for our children.posterity will judge us harshly.

  24. The Unza crisis stems from the fact that LPM is in hospital and as Mulongoti said the Acting President can not revoke appointments made by the president, therefore Lungwangwa knows that no one can despline him, as such he is behaving like a village headman towards the problems of UNZA. This, as some of us are constantly hammering on, is a direct consequence of having a power vacuumm. Imagine what is happening to awarding of contracts now that the *****s in government know that LPM will never ever get to know of those deals, the plunderers must be busy at work as we continue thinking of the way forward about LPM’s illness. We need to move on and put a head of state in place for sanity’s sake.

  25. the last time i checked, unza was not even in the top 100 universities in africa and not even ranked in the top 3000 (yes three thousand)universities in the world.
hey, we talking of the highest institution of the land ka.

  26. i don’t understand what happens in zambia.
govt is full of people who are not qualified to run the country.it always fails to solve UNZA’s problems.we have only two universities in zambia.Russia has more than 350 universities but u can’t find them being closed, not only that , stupid politics at instutions are not found.people are serious to move the country forwad.maybe thre’s somethin wrong with a black man.i really feel bad about our country.noooooo way we can have 2 universities with full of problems 4 44years.it’s seems zambia will never change until jesus comes.

  27. I have a feeling Lungwangwa has a vandetta against the new VC, insider info! That was a tactical error for LPM to appoint a guy who failed to run the unversity with Sepell in alomost a similar capacity. what a shame in the 21st century that a university has to close so many times, just out of curiosity how many times did unza close during 25 years of kaunda (unza opened 1966) compared to 15 years of mmd?

  28. #29, Cottan has a contract with Esther that goes up to March 2009, a sponsorship contract, but Esther wants to get married to her Fiance and Cottan (MD National Milling) said he advised Esther against getting married until this contract runs out, according to him, Esther will be allowed to do a kithen party after 4th October fight and then possibly get married which might imply she might conceive and you cannot box or indeed bt involved in energy sports like boxing in that condition. I do not know the exact details of the contract but I would imagine if I was MD of national milling spending so much money on a boxer I would have the same fear, but again this is Zambia!

  29. #35, we have 3 public universities in Zambia. The 3rd one is called Mulungushi University and it is situated somewhere in kabwe.
We also have some private ones like the Zambia Adventist University.
Back to the topic at hand, I really feel ashamed that UNZA has been closed once more. UNZA is currently ranked #55 in Africa on the webmetrics found at ht tp: / / ww w.webometric s.info /top100_continent.a sp ?cont=africa. In the world, it appears as #7116. The most sad part is that it is far much lower compared to the university of Zimbabwe. May God bless Zambia.

  30. #35 & 38 what used to be President Citizenship College later National College for Management and Development Studies in Kabwe, and one of the venerated professors Prof Chinene is running the university, having worked with him on one of the projects where he was offering consultancy services, I see that Mulungushi University going places and it already is.

  31. #30, the feeling from this October/Kafue graduate is the same as yours.

It’s very likely something politically major is taking event in the next three weeks.

  32. Again out of information, how are universities managed in other countries? Who appoint the VC and to what extent are politicians involved. Look UNZA like UTH does not need a Profeessor for a CEO, even UTH does not need a Medical Doctor to run it, but an administrator, so why don’t we try that model at UNZA and see how these institutions will run.

  33. #38 May be #35 is from old skool like me. The last time I looked Zed only had 2 Unis. Sorry to say but what sort of courses do the other ones offer? I am not being awkward but they were not there when I left the ountry.

  34. LPM condition may be stable, but Zambia is in motion. UNZA closure is move by the govt to prevent students from going on a DEMO pertaining to lack of the country’s Leadership and its consequences. Viva UNZASU.

  35. #44, I am equally far from HOME. I hope to be there soon and may be then I will bw able to provide you with the details you require. However, i think you can find something about the new universities on the web right now if you try carefully and patiently since we talking about Zed.

  36. Unza ladies just join us in our nite business of prostutions, no more landlords since you will be closed for a mouths.
I’m glady you shall not finish your course in intime.
    Mwachilamo nokuyusha.

  37. I am not very sure about the course structure yet but what I do know is that they are a bit agriculture heavy because Prof ayhway is a soil scientist and they are also doing disaster management. But the point is it does not matter if they are offering the same courses as CBU and UNZA because we do not even have enough spaces at both UNiversities. For instance CBU offers a straight BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, UNZA you have to go through NS, and the CBU degree has become so popular, so I think we have enough discplines to go around but we do not have are enough public university places. Between you and me he has already attracted top quality staff from UNZA!

  38. BA GOVERNMENT MWAKANGIWA KU RUNNINGA SKULU SHURE SHCHOPET!!!!IMWE MA MINISTER NZELU ZANU NIKUBA CHABE!!! …..VIMIMBA VANU VA KULA MANJE MWATIIBALKO? MA BENZE YE MUENZA MWENZO CHITILA NOYA GONELA KUMANDA SHURE…MA LUBBISH!!!PUNZISANI ANA AHHHH!!!!

  39. Number 23 deal with facts not the myopia you have. You may wish to learn that I am actually a graduate of that same unza and have since acquired several other postgraduate degrees to my name. What honour is there in students always rushing to the streets like insane (chamba smoking lunatics) to go and stone innocent pipo who have nothing to do with the closure of the university; and whose hard earned tax sustains the BC every month? Atase, learn to appreciate facts. I agree with whoever has closed the institution, until sanity in the same unza students retains, the university should be indefinitely closed. AMEN as student return home to reflect, viva closure!

  40. Please, fellow Zambians, let uis approach the unza issue with seriousness and not emotions.
UNZA has to be re-openned immediately so that students can finish their degree programmes on time. This behaviour of delaying people’s progress in life is what has cause our country to be almost a 100 years behind in just about everything.
Zimbabwe with its current problems is able to run things efficiently. I meade mention of the University of Zimbabwe as performing far much better than UNZA even though our economy looks great compared to the Zimbabwean one.
Let us for once take thngs that drive economies forward seriously – and UNZA, CBU and MU are very much some of those things.

  41. Some things never change. You’d think that Lungwangwa being a former don would appreciate the problems @ the uni better than anyone else but oh no, the man is now wining & dining with the bwana’s! Students or lecturer’s are not to blame, their ill behaviour is but a symptom of a much bigger root cause. Mgt (both @ uni & from higher up @ min of edu) has lamentably failed to articulate a sensible approach to running our institutions of higher learning. Surely these morons can’t run 3 Govt uni’s & yet there’s talk of opening more?

  42. These uni’s require more funding and sensible managers who will engage the corporate world for sponsorship, charge economically viable fees and source financier’s to offer low interest student loans (legally binding) to these monks & momas! This may have it’s teething problems but in time will ensure sufficient funding for normal functioning of uni (lecturer’s pay, student facilities etc). It works in places like US & UK where u don’t hear of stupid closures over flimsy grounds. This is the first major test for acting presido RB???

  43. I failed my 2nd year because KK started giving us ninjas, some of us forgot that we went there to learn. We thought we went there to get BC’s only. Moon city and valentinos, mywee. Anyway, the chaps who continued stayed on for another 3 yrs because of riots. I even graduated before them abroad.
If it is not troublesome students fearing the sloughter hse (Exam time), it is lectures wanting more maane.
The whole unza should be offered to a private company from europe to run strictly as a bussiness, with GRZ doing its share of funding.

  44. It’s disappointing really. Doesn’t Government have any permanent and sustainable solution to the problems at UNZA than closing everytime, even on flimsy grounds? I expected Prof. Lungwangwa to fully understand the problems that obtain at that Institution since not long ago he was there. Now i agree with my other colleagues’ sentiments that it is easier to be a Member of Parliament than to be Leader of tested Resilience and common sense. VERY IRRITATING MR MINISTER, VERY VERY IRRITATING.

  45. UNZA here we go again, let the young pipo run the country, these old midalas they never want to retire no wonder our country still thinks old, no new ideas for our generation, look at sata, miyanda still want to be president and yet they have saved in gov for years shame on u. meanwhile these midalas in gov they are busy sending their sons and dauts out side zambia to be educated no wonder they dont care about these closures, its a shame!!!!

  46. Can govt just privatise UNZA and concentrate there resources to Mulungushi and Copperbelt University.

Maybe if UNZA was privatised, it would erase some of the problems and students can actually finish on time. Not forgetting UNZA can have the actual number of students it can manage to have, the infrastructure will be intact and lecturers may not be crying foul to salaries.

    Just my thoughts on it.

  47. #34. unza monko

Stop this lying. UNZA is number 55 on the top 100 African universities.

    www . webometrics . info / top100 _ continent . asp ? cont=africa

    (remove spaces).

Stop sh1tting statistics. I would like to see your sources.

  48. do u know that cabinet has been awarded a salary increase handsomely, but lungwangwa has made unza closed due to his failure to approve a just 15% salary increase.

  49. The track record of our government and privaisation is not a very good one.
We have issues all round in our country.

I am amused that Zambians had the audacity to laugh at the Zimbabwean people for sitting silently and waiting to hear their election results (was that nearly 6 weeks?), and now, watch our nation, we are not sure what the condition of our president is beyond that ‘stable’ that keeps being announced, UNZA, CBU and Evelyn Hone are closed and thats ok, and today we’re told the Cabinet Ministers have awarded themselves a pay-rise (we all know the President would throw a fit on that one normally), Am I missing something??????

  50. Its very shameful for unza to be facing the same problem every year. so unfortunate that those who are supposed to complete their prgrammes in 5yrs are taking 7yrs + to cmplete, what a waste of time. As long as we have the current crop of leaders who have hiked the salaries and allowances (today’s post)and forgetting about unza/cbu, this trend will go on. iam preparing my children for some other universities outside of zed, where there’s sanity and not the trash we are subjected to day in day out. bamakaka

  51. The problem is Lungwangwa. He wants to bring his Namibian friend to be the vice chancellor. So he should be disciplined when the boss comes back from paris.

But why Law is not closed and when the salaries are increased, even them will benefit?

  52. And why can’t they give UNZA some of the money the government is getting from the mines. Recently one mine paid $30m and the total they are supposec to get is around $450 per year. Where are they taking this money. I though the money will solve problems like the one at Unza. Shonse baleiba fye ba politician. Too bad for Zambia.

  53. Ba Unza ba fikale mwalitupa u deserve the closure. thats y Zcas is super….

if you get stupid ***** again it will continue being closed

  54. 73 be senseble,we need education for all zambians so as to have equal job opportunities.Education must be equalizer for zambians good living conditions.the poor need to have education just as those who afford to pay

  55. #73. You are such a useless fellow. I think you failed to go to UNZA and now your anger is coming out by saying those things. U are so stupid.

  56. hey guys @ UNZA u should not agree to go for a recess a the end of the semister to cover up for the time you guys have lost during this closure. Lungwagwa should go and settle his useless scores with whoever is planning to settle he with and he just useless to say the least.

  57. nanomba tamulaba serious pa Zed.same old closures, mwabashani?do you really take education seriously? can someone do some research and find solutions forever.twanaka mwe.you think a serious person like me can come back pa Zed pa same school.nefwalo ifyali pankondo tafisala university.shame!

  58. But how come Lungwangwa is highly educated and failing to manage only UNZA crisis??? Can he be a possible successor to Levy??

  59. If he can not manage just one ministry were he is supposed to have experience and the academic requirements, how in the world can he be a President of Zambia? Such people will never have a role at plot 1. Lungwangwa is useless. LPM’s cabinet is full of useless people who don’t care about Zambia but themselves. This is LPM’s biggest failure, he surrounded himself with very useless people. You can not run a country with just a hand full of people. LPM’s gov’t has(had) a chance to change things for all Zambians but that chance has run out. We need to change, give other people a chance to move the nation forward. I would suggest Lungwangwa to be added on the list of people criminals.

  60. Education can be turned into a multi billion dollar industry if the universities are run like businesses. Why can’t UNZA use it’s land to build accommodation and conference facilities which can be hired out when Lusaka hosts the many conferences, workshops and seminars? This part of the business alone can help to generate funds for the institution. UNZA can also have a few commercial farms that it can run to generate some income. UNZA needs to invest in technological courses especially in ICT. ICT will play a major role in businesses, organisations etc in the 21st century and UNZA can be a source of knowledge and experience of that. UNZA can even start providing online courses etc…

  61. Prof lungwangwa has completely failed to run the varsity both as VC and minister. maybe he is a prof thru CROOKS.
    shame.

  62. #80. Although your ideas are good let UNZA concentrate on its mandate i.e. training and research. GRZ should just fund the institution adequately.

  63. I think Lungwangwa should be retired on public interest because he does not know where and when to vent his anger. The last closure that CBU experienced was because Lungwangwa wanted to get at the VC Prof Mutale Musonda. We do not know what their problem was while at UNZA, could be that they collided at some lady. He ended up punishing students instead and now we lecturers are being punished also because we have to work our lungs out to try and normalise the academic calender. We are sick and tired of these stupid personal issues which are now affecting all of us. Hope the powers that be will seriously look into this issue.

  64. #82 Big Boss,If UNZA continues to depend on GRZ funding then political inteference will not end and sudden closures like this one will not end. The whole purpose of UNZA should be to offer academic learning with all the right facilities and human resources and courses should run according to the agreed time table. If a particular course runs for 3 years, that should be the case instead of taking 6 years to finish a 3 year course. Most universities around the world have a commercial arm which helps in financing the institutions. What training and research does UNZA do anyway? The little research that comes from UNZA is not taken on board by GRZ so why not expand into other commercial areas?

  65. #78.. ba koffi, Lungwangwa might be highly educated but these things of management are unique. Mugabe is the most educated prezdo in the world with 7 degrees, 2day look at ZIM. 2day mugabe is still learning frm Zed “absolutely i don’t like the guy, but i like his ability to defy death. At my age, it is quite likely that i could suffer a stroke too. it is therefore important much as i deslike the fellow, TO LEARN frm him how not to die when hit by a stroke at that an advanced age. once he recovers, i will call him for tips on how to survive a stroke. zambia may not be such a bad country to learn something frm after all”. its good to be an interllectual, but leaders are born not made.

  66. CBU VC Prof Mutale Musonda should have been the minister of education. he has great interest in advancing Zambia’s education sector and he is a true academic. Let us place our best human resources in the right areas to move the nation forward.

  67. The closure is somehow disturbing especially when other government leaders have awarded themselves hefty allowances at the expense of poor students at the University. Money in Zambia is available, it just a matter of knowing priorities. We are tired and sick of closures at UNZA. Cant the authorities even copy what is happening in other countries.

  68. In 1982 we initiated the blocking of G8T EAST ROAD. It never crossed my mind it will go on for decades. We did not stone any body ,but a ZNBC bus was set on fire. Segulani, de javu!

  69. #73 we all know ZCAS is a school of wealthy failures. UNZA is a real university unfortunate to be the victim of bad governance.

  70. the question is,what can we do inorder to avoid failures of the likes of lungwanogwa?we have talked alot really but he is deaf.a lasting solution is there when electing a president, pls let us be focused and face reality here, our fellow HH can do

  71. prof. has been waiting for Levy’s decision to solve UNZA impase. This is my experience with the so called Lozi intellectuals. No matter how educated a lozi could be,balibee initiative. You can educate a lozi very well, but you will never succeed to take out the Loziship out of him. That is the more reason we had to get rid of Saki from the UPND presidency for the guy lacks innitiative and he is simply a sterio-type. We need people such as HH for the way forward here in Mazabuka.

  72. #91 your primitiveness at pointing out someone’s problems as being attributed to Lozi is probably why you will never go anywhere in life. The rhythm and movement of someone’s vocal cords has no bearing on someone’s personality and decisions. For example I can attribute your dundaheadness to your tribe but really the blame is not on your tribe it’s on the lousy parenting that brought you up.

  73. #91 do not personalise as your prof.lukwakwa done at unza.upnd is for all zambia including former members like saki, bob, patrick etc belong to the party.pls 91 do not put divission seeds in our leaders.let us bring them together for better zambia.

  74. If there is one thing that is depressing in Zambia is to receive an education in Zambia. It is no longer the way it used to be in the before the 90’s (at least) kicked in. UNZA is just another place where we think you can go and get your degree but no, not anymore, and even if you did, where do you go? who respects you? We can do better with our education system in Zambia especially with UNZA our only recognized institution. That is why even if I want to come back home, I can’t. What type of education will my children receive? Closures are disruptive. Keep to the academic years of each course to allow those young Zambians finish their courses on time……

  75. And i am told that they do not even know how to shakafuswa. Now wonder their women are now fond of us Tonga Bulls. We know how to shakafuswa women in details.

  76. May GOD help us,Im nt enjoyng ths.Maybe its hgh tme we stpped putting so much of our faith in leaders who always fail us,bt in our LORD JESUS who’ll never fail us.’we need education’

  77. Govt does not allow unza to run like a business and charge economical fees because of the socialist philosophy in Zambia otherwise the poor we’ll not get educated (govt policy). So those of you condemning unza get your facts correct. Govt gives grants to unza because they are not allowed to charge fees like private instititions like ZCAS. So unza’s hands are tied, just has to wait for grants and interference from useless *****s like Lungwangwa. the management has done nothing wrong this time. They did their part and govt is not functioning coz LPM is out. LPM even ‘gave’ unza K20billion last time there was a problem in March but Lungwangwa wants to fix UNZA fo skipping him

    Viva capitalism

  78. Atucesye imatusi basa. Please, let us avoid insults. My take is let us concentrate on sticking to the topic at hand.

Have a blissful day you all Zambians.

  79. U CHI MWEEMPWA MABURNS,u are not well cultured because of your dirty tongues.you are not a produtive citizen.go back to zim,u are mugabenised.thats why u shallow minded

  80. Doc is right. Most of the bloggers don’t seem to understand that what is at the core of the problem at UNZA are vestiges of socialism still guiding government policy towards UNZA. Government restricts UNZA from charging economic fees to applicants or to increase the percentage of self – sponsored students who can bring a lot of money into the university. The same government is unable to fully pay for the sponsorship of the students they sponsor so that at the end of the day government owes UNZA billions in unpaid tuition fees! The grant given to UNZA is not only very low to meet operation expenses of the institution such as salaries, but is often given very late.

  81. Right now, for example, no one at UNZA has been paid their July salaries. Even the July pay slips have not been given! Lungwangwa is trying to hit back at UNZA because he was denied the chance of a second term as Deputy Vice Chancellor because of his history of mismanaging university funds and general abuse of office. He wanted one of his friends to installed as Vice Chancellor, but this ploy was discovered and he was warned by LPM. He now wants to create a self – fulfilling prophecy by making it difficult for the current management to run the university and then turn around and say: “You see, these guys are incompetent, my friend whom you turned down could have done better”.

  82. Government should start running emerald mines. These mine have the capacity to fund all learning institutions, hospitals, roads etc. But most of them are in the hands of birds which will fly away after depleting the mineral resources.

Brothers and sisters, we should have a deliberate policy not to send ANY one outside the country for treatment, education, etc, then pipo can be forced to upgrade the local standards. Some one is even happy to announce the closure of the institution – it is not acceptable.

  83. Unza has under performed but again they have yried under difficult circumstances brought forward by politicians, Maybe UNZA management it is time the got a leaf from CBU vice chancellor who I hear has done so well in his tenure that he has only seen one long closure over the last six to seven years he has been at CBU, VIVA CBU VIVA UNZA

  84. Fir Lungwangwa! He is useless and is one of the ministers that are overburdening LPM. He fails to make constructive suggestions in the daily running of his office especially the Universities and Colleges. He should realize that those who dig a pit shall fall in it. You think 3 weeks is enough period to meet the demands of the university staff. Akabwera LPM wina azalira maka maka Lungwangwa. I will tell him everything. If it does then the next step is to hire proper administrators. They can be professors in whatever field, but with additional qualifications (such as MBA or DBA)and relevant experience in management.

  90. Kenya has in itself 8 government run universities and rarely wil they strike! 91. Maano abuyanga ayo. Ikujala-jala cikolo. Abalo basicikolo baku UNZA baliumwine–nciindi cenu mulacembaalila mucikolo. Shame!!!
