Share

MEMBER of Parliament for Moomba Constituency in Monze District in Southern Province, Vitallis Mooya, has instructed youth groups that misused the constituency youth development money given to them, to pay back it.

Mr. Moomba said in an interview with ZANIS in Monze today that, about thirteen youth groups out of fourteen in his constituency, failed to come up with viable projects, because they had misused the funds.

Mr.Mooya said that, this was discovered after he conducted a tour of projects that were approved for funding under the Constituency Youth Development Fund (CYDF)programme, a few months ago.

He said that youth groups that would fail to pay back the funds, would face the law, to curb the misuse of the money meant to foster development among youths in the country.

Mr.Mooya  urged Government, through the local authority, to undertake another  monitoring and evaluation exercise for the CYDF programme in his area because even those youth groups were seen to have been doing fine were actually lying.

He cited one youth group at Kahumuzya in his constituency that borrowed goats from individual villagers by pretending that they were running a goat rearing project, but ended up not paying the goat owners.

Mr. Mooya feared that a similar situation might be experienced in other constituencies if corrective measures were not put in place in good time.

He prodded  Government to come up with stringent measures to which would ensure that the CYDF programme is implemented according to laid down guidelines to avoid the misuse of funds.

Mr.Mooya accused the committees of some of the youth groups in his constituency, to be misusing the funds at the expense of the vulnerable.

He said government would find it hard to successfully empower it’s citizens through sustainable development programs, if such programs were left to be run by selfish and corrupt people.

And TWELVE suspects and convicts on Saturday night escaped from Moomba Police station in Monze district after cutting the lock to the cells using a sharp instrument .

Monze District police Chief, Njimba Ilyamupu, confirmed the incident which happened between 24hours and 01:30 hours, adding that police shot one escapee, who is currently admitted to Monze mission hospital.

Mr Njimba said that it was suspected that one of the suspect’s wives might have provided a cutter that was used to cut the lock and other parts of the grill gate to the cells by hiding it in a jacket that was handed over to her husband during visiting hour.

He said that eleven of the suspects were still on the run and police have since instituted investigations into the matter.

The police chief said that the suspects that escaped were facing different charges ranging from burglary, housebreaking and stock theft.

He said that there was only one officer on duty at the time of the incident while the other named officer who was suppose to be on duty reported late and has since been detained for reporting late.

The officer added that many officers were deployed to ensure security at the Gonde Lwiindi ceremony which was held in Monze over the long weekend when the escape was staged.

  1. Zambia is an animal farm. Everyone wants his/her share of the spoils. Let the Monze youths take their share since you thieves in government are just busy stealing as well.

On the thieves breaking out the cell, how do let 1 police officer with a pembela nsokele man such a huge number of thugs? Be serious Matteo! You like talking too much. Can you train more grade 9s to man thieves.
