Investors implored to contribute to attainment of 2030 vision

Share

Government has called on all investors in the country to identify with Zambia’s Vision 2030 targets in order to contribute to its attainment.

Labour and Social Security Minister Ronald Mukuma said investors as a way of contributing to the attainment of the country’s 2030 vision should create jobs that are decent and able to assist the locals sustain their livelihoods.
Mr. Mukuma stated that a well paid and trained worker is productive and can effectively contribute to increasing the country’s productivity and profitability in various sectors.

The Minister said this during a familiarization tour of Zambia Sugar Plc in Mazabuka yesterday.

He commended Zambia Sugar Plc for its in-house training programme for workers saying the country’s labour market requires more trained local man power in order for Zambia to move away from dependency on foreign man power.

And Zambia Sugar Plc Managing Director Paul de Robilliard said his company has embarked on an expansion project to increase sugar production from the current 246, 000 tonnes to 440, 000 tonnes by 2010.

Mr. Robilliard said the $180 million project will also see the company increasing its exports from 146, 000 tonnes to 300, 000 and expanding the area from 16, 000 hectares to 27, 000 hectares by 2010.

  1. Good call, but what specific activities has government initiated for achievement of the said vision? It would be nice to avail these to the investors so that they get nsync.

  2. Well said lady blue, there is nothing as encouraging to workers as giving them opportunities to attend some in-service programmes to sharpen their skills.

I do remember how excited i always used to get whenever my former employers ZNBC sent me out to attend a course. It was inspiring.

  3. I hate to be negative but it hates me to just read about visions that never materializes. whatever happened to the 2010 visons only God knows.
we have to learn not live in an imaginary world but be practical. Its one thing to just dream but another to work towards your goals. Faith without works is dead and am afraid for far too long, our faith has been dead. Lets work towards the 2030 vision Mr Minister and it shouldnt die when you leave office

  4. The govt is serious about Zambia becoming a middle income country by 2030. There are a number of programmes concurrently running in the Fifth National Development Plan, Private Sector Development (PSD) etc that all feed into the Vision 2030.
The PSD aims at identifying key constraints to increasing firm productivity. They are also streamlining policies and laws to ensure that obstacles are removed, and ease the process of conducting business in the country.

  5. #4 you are so right !

And can something be done about the now ‘dead’ industrial areas around the country, especially in Nodla ?! We need to concentrate on investors who are in the manufacturing industries and not just those in the service industry (Manda Hill, Arcades) !!

  6. Visions, visions, question how far in achievement have we made since the MMD came into power, maybe this could help us look 4ward to 2030

  7. OKAY, FELLOW BLOGGERS, THIS IS OFF THE TOPIC AT HAND BUT MY QUESTION IS; IS TRACHEOTOMY A REVERSIBLE OPERATION OR NOT? COZ I HEAR THEY PUT A SMALL TUBE ON THE MKOLOMINO OF LPM TO AID HIM BREATHE. NOMBA CAN THIS THING BE REMOVED WITHOUT CAUSING LOSS OF THE VOICE? NGA FWENIKO BA SHING’ANGA BA BANTU.

  8. #13. The White man

Stop lying. You are not white. You are a bantu black zambian like me. You are just trying to agitate an argument.

Stop lying. I see right through you.

  9. #15. The White man

Ok lets say I believe you (that you are white). Off the top of my head, I will take it (judging from your comment) that you are not Zambian.

So my question to you is what possible interest would you have with my country. It has done nothing to you nor will it ever do anything to you. Have you come to put us down and poke fun at us??

We are just concerned citizens speaking on the rights and wrongs of our govt. We are peace loving people who have done nothing to you. If your intent is to poke fun at us then i would ask you to leave us alone so we can discuss in a constructive way about our problems.

    Good day Sir.

You’re right on the money. This minister need not pull wool in our eyes together with this rep of foreign capital. These statements of improved production are pipe dreams.. so cliche’d. Talk about recycling lies. Ba minister needs to answer what is GRZ policy saying in relation to 2030vision and stop imploring companies but rather business tows the policy line.
Also what is the minsiter doing about the minimum wage which is pathetic compared to the salary increases he and his cronies are debating on in parliament. Furthermore, what social security systems are in place/improved under his watch??

Ba Koshet unpack those niceties for us please, tell us what value those PSDs are to me

  12. The issue is this, why should an enterprise whose sole aim is to make profits be in the business of also looking at achieving Government goals. Why

  13. Put simply, why should I be concerned about how my neighbour gets food on his table when I am busy trying to do just that. It is ludicrous.

  14. It is upto the Government to put measures in place to ensure that they benefit from Investors.

It is upto my neighbour to learn from me how Iam putting food on my table not for me to volunteer my skills.

Well, if I see my neighbour in a crisis I may decide to help him for that cause only. But, my neighbour should not think that my help is mandatory and perpetual.

Most investors take advantage of loopholes in the system. It is upto the GOVERNMENT to seal those loopholes.

  15. Look people, as long as we dont go back to the basics of survival, we will perpetually be depedant on illusive investors.

  16. What 2030 vision? As far as I am concerned, with the current plunderous leaders in cabinet, I see more salary hikes for themselves as they have now grown to think that they must reward themselves when they see the private investors reaping the huge sums of profits for themselves while the vast majority of our people languish in poverty.

Zambia is certainly up a wrong path and there is no way this nation will become a middle income nation given the absence of institutions focusing on service delivery and accountability.

  17. The visions are dependant on the brains involved. I wonder what kind of visions a mad man has.

I guess the mad man sees anything, even impossiblies. Like after 10 years I will make sure that every person in Zambia will drive a posche besides owning 100 hammers on the side.

An egg for every household came from a better head I guess.

  18. They can only plough back into the country if there is an advantage in doing so, business wise. Otherwise, they have plenty of alternative countries to invest in.

Zambia is not the best investment destination. Ofcourse you know that, do you.

  19. we need to ensure our govt introduces laws that will make them do so.i hope NCC is working on that.Anonymous,we need you back in Zed.come and develop your country!

  20. #29 I believe that is the hope of most of us outside the country. Very few Zambians outside would think of staying away permanently.

The problems that made us leave are what most external bloggers are trying to highlight.

I personally would like to relocate finally to Zambia but the Government does not make it easy.

  21. am sure it’s not too late my dear!your ideas can be analysed and looked into.we need all the external bloggers to come back home…we are moving at a slow pace due to insufficient man-power.was chatting with a buddy outside Zed and has assured he’s coming back but fears for the economy after LPM’s demise.am sure you would do us alot of good to be here and suffer with us …

  22. Getting back to Zed to start what? Business? My foot, laws and regulations are not respected or enforced. The classroom business models we know, and applied in the developed world are but a dream in Zed…your abilities are inconsequential. You have to know big names to get meaningful contracts, especially if dealing with govt (the biggests buyer of goods and services), you have to be reknowned in the ‘nchekeleko’ world dealing with the mines (the second biggest buyers of goods and services)…the only meaningful business you can get into is real estate. Otherwise, you will bust like many who’ve come home and tried.

  23. Lady Blue I couldn`t have put it better myself. Zambians think knowing people in office is the “real” thing let alone giving them “gifts”.

Corruption in Zed has become normal. What is irritating is even the s called learned people do it every second.

  24. Returning residents to zed must have that undescribable ummff and weather the storm to bring back sanity. Constitutionalism can only be upheld once there is an active participant political culture among zambians.
Apparently that active culture is ‘mainly’ found in those that have had a stint in societies that respect the rule of law(bloggers in the diaspora), Just look at the composition of the Oasis forum. Hence, provide that much needed human resource capital to move the wheels of change.
Bane, sacrifices have to be made, wherever you are that beauty you see was met with a sacrifice.

  25. the comments u guyz giv r crazy im a fun!! i lov dis site ohh ye abt da 2030 vision we all nid to work 2gether including all of y’all blogging rite now so c’mon zed we can do it!! if we try of course nd jst sleeping in the office and asume we have worked lol…ZOONA
