Government has described as stable the condition of Local Government and Housing Minister, Sylvia Masebo.
Mrs Masebo was admitted to the Maina Soko Military Hospital on Friday ,after collapsing at Lusaka City Airport, where she was among senior government officials, members of the first family and other mourners who gathered at Lusaka City Airport to receive the body of late President Levy Mwanawasa.
Mrs Masebo fainted after seeing the casket carrying the late President’s body. Late President Levy Mwanawasa’s body arrived Friday in Lusaka after being taken to all the provincial capitals to enable members of the public view it.
Acting President, Rupiah Banda, Chief Justice Ernest Sakala, Cabinet ministers and their deputies and service chiefs were on hand to receive the body of the late President.
Upon arrival, the late Dr. Mwanawasa’s body was accorded a presidential salute by a quarter guard mounted by the Zambia Air Force.
The late President’s body was then placed on the military gun carriage and taken to Mulungushi International Conference Center where it will lie in repose until Tuesday next week.
First lady Maureen, Gender Minister Patricia Mulasikwanda, Sports Minister Gabriel Namulambe and Presidential Affairs Minister Cecil Holmes were among those that accompanied the body of the late President.
Others included Science Minister Peter Daka, President Mwanawasa’s special assistants Jack Kalala and John Musukuma, MMD Deputy National Secretary Jeff Kaande and other family members.
Lusaka residents, have the opportunity to pay their last respects to the late President, from 08:00 hours to 18:00 hours today.
On Tuesday next week, a valedictory service will be conducted for the late President at the Supreme Court in Lusaka before burial on Wednesday at the Embassy Park.
Let’s hope she gets better soon. But enough already with the “stable” condition. We know where that got us the last time.

Levy only made him VP in October 2006…and according to the MMD consititution this is less than 2yrs and should therefore not be allowed. Masebo must be suffering from some serious illness that need to be investigated properly. I get worried for her because this is the second time she has collapsed in the public place or gathering. The first was in Kabwe may be four to five months ago and it was just reported as hypotension.She was briefly admitted to a hospital in Kabwe. I am sure fainting was not due to seeing the pesidents’s casket but hypotension. She is physically unwell.

We are not a monarchy please. let people decide who takes over. Inheritance doesnot count in a democracy. Though lpm ruled the country quite well, we should not forget his dark side, but we should highlight them and learn lessons from them. Maureen got a lot of publicity today in the SUNDAY POST with the interview she gave.
Everyone can see that the Post is backing Magande and Maureen. Maybe Magande will have Maureen as his running mate (if the constitution will be changed by then). If he should become president and something happens to him before 2011 then she will automatically become president of Zambia. If nothing happens to him she will have a head start in the 2011 elections.

Levy failed to understand his own party. He failed to purge the party of corrupt elements like Katele and VJ. So the Chiluba must be rejoicing now. He will be let off the hook by Sata or any Katele engineered MMD president. It is win win for the plunderers. All because Mwanawasa lacked foresight. The likes of Magande will struggle to go past Katele, who has assumed the role of king maker. If you’ve noticed, Katele does not want a convention.
