Redeem yourself by voting for RB, Southern Province told

Share

Tourism minister Michael Kaingu has challenged the electorate in Southern Province to redeem themselves in the by-election by voting for the ruling MMD candidate Rupiah Banda in the forthcoming October 30 presidential.

Mr Kaingu said the electorate in the province have always been perceived that their voting pattern is on tribal lines as evidenced by the outcome of the 2006 polls.

He told ZANIS in Choma Friday that the province is the only one that failed to provide a cabinet minister because all the parliamentary seats were taken by the opposition.

Mr Kaingu said time has now come for the province to redeem itself from the perception that people in the region are tribalists.

Mr. Kaingu said ongoing reconstruction of the bottom road in the Gwembe valley and other important link roads in the Southern Province shows government’s commitment to uplifting the living standards of the people in the province.

Mr. Kaingu told ZANIS that government has invested huge resources in improving road infrastructure to help boost economic activities in the province.

He said for a long time, people of the Gwembe valley had appealed for the rehabilitation of the Bottom road saying there plea was answered by the late President Dr Mwanawasa’s administration.

The minister said works on the controversial Choma-Namwala road as well as the Monze-Neiko road are currently under way to help address the complaints of the people of Namwala over the bad state of the link roads.

He said the province has also been a beneficiary of massive investments in the tourism industry, which investments he said has opened up the area to economic development.

Mr Kaingu however caution people of southern province not to take the ongoing development projects for granted as their continuity depends on whom they vote for in the upcoming October 30 Presidential by election.

He said some of the presidential candidates, if voted into office, will negate the current economic gains of the MMD because they have no leadership qualities in them which can move the country forward.

Mr Kaingu said if the current peace that Zambians have taken for granted will be at great risk if they vote for a wrong presidential candidate.

He appealed to the people of southern province to vote for MMD candidate Rupiah Banda so that the province continues to register developmental gains.

  1. Try somewhere else. We vote for quality and if it is in a Tongaman at this particular instance, we shall give him the vote. When Southern Province voted for Chiluba was he Tonga then??? Shame on you Kaingu.

  2. Mr Michael Kaingu, I am sorry, but I believe this is insulting the intelligence and voting rights of Southern Province voters. If the Zambian electorate in the Southern Province in particular and other Zambian Provinces in general, then it is your time to leave as a Party in GOVERNMENT.
Some of you so-called Ministers or leaders are a disgrace to Zambia as a country and Nation. You do not seem to learn from past mistakes – which is called EXPERIENCE. What did the former (late) Zambian President do in Southern Province, Monze, in 2006 and what response did he and MMD get out of that

  3. Mr Kaingu sir go and twitch somewhere else not S.Province. Development will continue in S.Province whether you like it or not. Where do all the tourists go anyway. GO HH

  4. In 2006 i voted for LPM.Was he Tonga? In 1991,S.P gave Chiluba 100%,was he Tonga?People of S.P vote for quality and change with time.If Sata,RB or HH is the best candidate,we shall vote for them if they have the answers to our problems.

  5. Mr Kaingu Sir,go and tell the Easterners to redeem themselves by not voting for RB on tribal lines but vote on merit.HH is the answer to our many problems fellow youths.Remember, its now or never.Lets do the right thing by voting across Party & tribal lines.

Why did you lie in the first place? Why did RB lie? Now they are telling another lie? The money was to endorse Banda. Why not also give PF and UPND if those are your reasons? Why has Cosmos now endorsed you if he need the money for his own campaign?

  8. Its just a matter of time before the upnd ceases to exist and the Tongas will have themselves to blame.upnd is shrinking ,not long ago they lost the livingstone seat and soon they will lose the Kazungula seat. The dindi(valley)tongas want to go their way from the so called plateau tongas. This year the tongas hosted one tradition ceremony in different locations ,the Lwiiindi ceremony that is in livingstone and Monze on the same date, that speaks volumes. Why vote for a President whose tribe and party are crumbling to pieces?

  9. People in Southern Province should not listen to such stupid advice from this clown. He and the entire MMD are 100% desperate. Please people of Southern Province do not give RB a single vote. If you did not support Mwanawasa who was far much better than RB why should you waste your votes by voting for RB.

  10. Swebo kuno ku musanka twaka vota kale. Twakavotela HH. Kutali ma thugs aba. Mwakatwima mwana wa chisi Magande. Indeed LPM was a great man.

  11. Sata has done a proper analysis on HH. HH is not a Mazoka. And truly what is Kaunda trying to do by acting as a Chairperson to get HH and Sata together? Shouldn’t he be beyond such simple politics? Is the man becoming senile? At his age 84, he should now be seen more of a Father of the Nation than anything. Why he cant he be like Mudenda and Grey Zulu? Shame!!! Please somebody tell him to take it easy.

  12. This is an insult, may all those leaving in SP any tribe please hit this Kaingu thing. He is a nobody, VIVA the best candidte.
    Southern Power.

  13. Kaingu has got a huge amount of money to campaign in Southern Province. He has to continue talking rubbish so that it can look like he did his best when they lose. I am sure he has nothing else to do on the ground since he can read the mood of the people – non MMD!

Mulefuma ba MMD ba koswe imwe! Mwalya pafula! 17 years of stealing govt money!!

    VOTE HH!

  14. The Govt should deleveop all regions of the country even if they are under an opposition patry. mr. kaingu is therefore threatening the people of s/province with his language.

  15. Kainga is wasting his time. uno mwaka tulevotela ba HH. To boroow my brotha anonymous’s phrase ba MMD Mwalya pafula. We an’t gonna vote some fat sugar daddy into office. Hell no we gata vote HH. I am landing in Zed to camp for HH.Yes I gonna dance for HH for a week before casting my vote. Gata test the trenches. Heading to a farm near you soon. Watch the zambian scene.

  16. Musimbi you are free to vote the way you like. For me its HH!! Hope you gat your card for your satana. Anyway he is ailing and he an’t gonna lick it.

  17. One way of developing southern province is by breaking tribalism and the isolation that southern province is suffering. The Minister is on the right path. Why should tongas go in self exile?

  18. Choma 1 you are tribalist. The worst i have seen on this blog.SP is not just for tongas there are other pipo as well.In mazabuka you will find pipo from NWP,in l/stone they are alot of lozi. The local lagauge which was taught in livinstone was lozi until recently when the changed to tonga. In kalomo you will find different tribes because of mapatizya mine.

  19. Yes iam tonga and we are not tribalist,Yes we eat mabisi(yogurt),yes we drink chibwantu(maheu),yes we show that we don’t know something in order to learn than pretend to know and do the wrong thing, yes we embrace other pipo(check out the foreign farmer we have)Yes we are proud of our laguage we will use it anywhere we go.Yes we are hurt when you call us names.Yes we keep alot of cattle for farming purpose,NO we don’t have sex with our animals.

  20. we need quality iwe. go, not southern province, try somewhere else. may be magande would have made sense for us not RB. janza, janza, janza kumbele, go HH

  21. Pride in a person comes from knowing who you are. The first point of call in knowing who you are is the identity that is given to you by ones parents or guardian as the case may be. With that identity comes the heritage of the parent as to the tribe and clan they come from; other cultural aspects follow including the class that one is stratified in eg. from either low, medium or high density areas – the cutural aspect can be changed as people move from low to high class via hard work and vice versa. However, we have no choice of the tribe we come from. We all should be proud of who we are and the tribe that we come from. to be continnued.

  22. Vote Sata
    Pa Bwatooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    pa bwatooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    pa bwatooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    pa bwatooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  23. Sigh. I am incredibly disappointed with this man’s statements. How can people still think like this in 2008. Surely he must know that threatening people only makes them want to go against your wishes. Anyway, this election can only be won by either MMD or PF and God knows the MMD is the lesser of those two evils.

  24. Really this election is about choosing the lesser evil- for all you HH supporters, please tell me what it is that he has done that convinces you is the answer to all our problems? and all you Sata supporters, you do realize what you are voting for? An end to foreign investment, the ushering in of political instability and essentially Bemba tribalism. You want to turn us into a cesspit like Zim? Most importantly, what would the point be of voting in an opposition president with an MMD majority parliament? The president would be weak and would need to rely on coalitions to get anything done.

  25. rubbishh no rb .the niger is bzy buying vots . we need a man of intergrt .. what will deelopmetal programs will he bring,,, bakawalala…….twachula pafula .lets get some one in power not mmd…ba mabala

Pls do not donate sugar there they have enough..Zambia Sugar for HH

    zambia forward.

  27. Kaingu,i never knew that u are a slow thinker. How do u say such things? You must first first tell ur sugar Dad to stop corrupting pipo using sugar and money within two weeks.Shame has just landed on your face

  28. #36 good analysis.HH may have the education but he is not a politician i ve seem him talk he does not inspire at all he would make Sata look like he(Sata) is the one with good education.I hope that for the sake of prosperity RB wins.

  29. If Tongas are not tribal, then it is UPND that is tribal. This was exposed when Mazoka died and the drama that surrounded his succession. It is not just the perception that Tongas are tribal, but it is a UPND constitutional requirement that the president should be Tonga until such a time when a Tonga would become republican president. From there a quota system would apply on a rotational basis. This is institutionalised tribalism in UPND that was supported by Sejani and other UPND strongmen. HH was picked on the merit that he is also Tonga.

  30. N0 45 you are spot on. HH and UPND will have to get rid of the tribal stain before they can have a reasonable chance to be serious contenders on the Zambian political scene. The succession mess will forever haunt them. It is no wonder even Patrick Chisanga who bravely tried to stick it out had to give up in the face of so much tribalism.
