Be ready to accept outcome, IG prods candidates

Share

The Inspector general of police says presidential hopefuls should be ready to accept the outcome of the election.

Ephraim Mateyo says only one person can win in an election.

He says there are sufficient legal provisions in the constitution for people who are not satisfied with the outcome of the election to seek legal redress in the courts of law.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday Mr. Mateyo appealed to all presidential candidates to put the interest of the nation first.

He however said the atmosphere in the country is relatively calm, two days before Thursday’s presidential election.

Meanwhile a clergyman in Lusaka has asked the Inspector General of police to deal firmly with presidential aspirants who are issuing alarming statements.

Evangelical Youth Alliance International President Reverend, Moses Lungu said politicians should desist from making statements that have the potential to divide the country.

And the National Initiative for Citizens Awareness-NICA- says candidates in the October 30 presidential election must respect the outcome of the poll.

NICA president, Kelvin Sampa, says leaders must always remember that in any contest only one person emerges the winner.

He said in an interview with ZNBC news in Mpongwe that presidential candidates must respect the will of the people.

Mr. Sampa said threats from some political parties of not accepting the results are a recipe for violence.

And the Copperbelt NGO Coalition said political leaders must let Zambians be the judges of whom they want through the ballot.

Coalition chairman, Patrick Munthanga, said it is not wise for Leaders to conclude that they will win even before the vote is cast.

And the Southern Africa Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) says remarks by some presidential candidates that they will not accept the results of Thursday’s election if they lose are a threat to Zambia’s peace.

SACCORD says candidates must not issue statements that will incite their supporters to engage in violence.

SACCORD Executive Director, Lee Habasonda, says such negative statements are also meant to undermine the integrity of the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

He says political Leaders should understand that in an election there is always a loser and a winner.

Mr. Habasonda says if political party leaders are aggrieved, they should follow laid down channels to air the complaints instead of inciting violence.

He said all aspiring presidential candidates must accept the outcome of the October 30 poll to ensure peace and stability in the nation.

  1. PF IS A LIABILITY TO ZAMBIAN PEACE ECONOMIC STABILITY…>>>THE TITANIC CAN NEVER RULE ZAMBIA….!!! ITS A NON-STARTER,JOKE,COMEDY AND INSANITY. WHERE ON EARTH CAN THIS CHIMMENY BE PRESIDENT ??? THE POST WILL ROT WITH ITS PEOPLE’S FAILURE (PF)

  2. It is not a question of being number one but we should provide constructive debates for the benefit of Zambia.
As the IG points out, the leaders of all political parties should not presume that they have won the elections. RB claims victory is in his bag, Sata and HH say the same. Let the voters decide and whoever wins, Zambia has to move forward.

  3. Obviously,it is only PF that has indicated that they will not accept defeat as a possible outcome.
The rule of law must ensure that any trouble makers are dealt with as criminals,NOT SHOOT TO KILL POLICY,BUT CAGE TO KEEP!!

  4. We get the message. However, if there are any suspicions of mulpractice of any shape or form then the people have every right to challenge them. I do not condone violence but I support freedom of speech

  5. Sata is the man to stir and shake Zambia. HH will be a better option in a few years time. RB is not the best person to run Zambia. He knows it and those close to him can testify. It is just because the MMD people want to protect their jobs and so they have to do everything to stay in power. Magande could have been a lesser evil…

  6. Non of them are good for Zambia! All are devils.Listen to their words.Zambia is doomed! tribalism, corruption, no proper economic plan, no proper vision for Zambia…the list goes on and on .These are some of the side effects these aspiring presidential candidates have. Now who is a better devil? Anyway, we are doomed never the less.

  7. We UNIPISTS are waiting for our time to come.
First finnish yourselves and then we shall move in to share the spoils.

  8. why do people keep on saying its PF which won’t accept the results Haven’t they heard the strong sentiments coming from Hichilema? Be objective for once and everyone should ask themselves why the opposition is speaking the way it is. Surely there must be a good reason. Adress their cioncerns instead of merely telling them to acccept the results.

  9. They are all political pimps. Non ca bring change badly needed. We have a lot recycled political prostitutes and no new blood. If new blood is there, its also tainted. Zambia is doomed! October 30 th Dooms day! 1030!

  10. Elections should be free and fair. The sentiments being aired by some parties are real and should be addressed. In he meantime I agree with IG that candidates who dont win should accept the results to ensure peace prevails

  11. Im sure he is telin mmd,he knws smthin tht mmd dnt..and sum of u un-informd pipo, its nt pf tht isued such utterences.get real data b4 hulucinating in public..

  12. IG wants to preseve his job. Let him not use authority to scare voters. He is sounding mmd cadre. Ask mateyo if himself is free from corruption. Zambia be careful?

  13. #23 I just saw the video. its a pity those fellows will be in tears soon. PF are not winning. I’ll give them one thing, they certainly know how to have fun.

  14. i thought the post newspaper where just against mmd.i saw it with my own eyes.mmd is just giving money in kitwe.mr f.mutati is the one responsible of giving down here.the other day at lotus inn they run out of money.the beer bill came up to k1.3m.and didnt have enough to pay the bar man they hard probs with young dais the owner.he took off in a white toyota H (belongs to mr g lungu as the caders demanded more money also)lotus is the strogh hold of young pf members .today since rb is here taxi drivers are getting k200 pin for petrol anyawy to tell the truth i also got fuel today.what can say its bamba as sata tells us.good luck s…………ta

  15. Mateyo! Hope you have started clearing your desk, a new IG is taking over after 30th.Be it RB,Sata or HH .

  16. No wonder there is less meaningful talk on this blog, every topic you open someone is boasting of being the first to respond,we have kids on the blog & am sure these are the ones creating the hype on Sata.
It’s common practice in africa for a new President to change defence & security chiefs so Mateyo already knows he’s going just like many others knew immediately the President died.Mateyo has nothing to lose,he’s just doing his job & it’s good he’s giving warnings because there is just too much thuggish behaviour from PF cadres who think they have already one the elections. It’s reality that it will be difficult for MMD to rig elections this year so let’s just wait & see who the people choos

  17. People Mateyo is proper MMD cadre. First he was Paramilitary commanding officer at Lilayi Battalion HQ then was picked by MMD to stand as MP in Solwezi later become MP then lost to Mushala’s Son. Chiluba gave him a ministrial post at State House as Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs. His current position is still political appointment by the late president. So whatever, he has to say is in line with MMD directives. Zambians deserve better in terms of elections because they want the best man to rule them not by rigging. The politicians in the race are doing the best to win and shame enough pipo are only concerned about Sata coz he is a threat to MMD and not Zambia. 2006 he stopped his

  18. cadres from waging protest matches against Levy and the MMD as well as ECZ for producing late elections results eg Munali, Zambazi were the number of people voted was too much higher 12 thousand instead of 6 thousand. This is the same ECZ which printed 6 thousand extra voters papers without informing other political leaders/ parties. transportation of election materials was not perfect different information given to observers. Sata is violent neither dictator as those who believe in lazyness feels. He is inspirational and had working person. He understands the need to help less able to speak for themselves.

  20. Rb and all MMD supporters you shopuld be objective and shameful of yourselves, why judging the out come of the polls befoere the cast is tossed.RB he his asking opposition to accept defeat as if he has won, yet just in one month he has exposed his political weakenesses and how corrupt he is.Let the best man win,Sata pa bwatooo….

  21. Mateyo fuseki. Ichipuba. We had respect for you now you are lecturing us based on OLD Lilayi Police college tutorial material. Shame on You. You failed to arrest Nyama Soya when he was corrupting people in Katete with Sugar and all the MMD malpractices being committed. U should act now not advising us to complain later. PF we should replace him and send him back to Mateyo village along the Chingola Solwezi road.

  22. Iwe eye of an eagle,GBM has been campaigning peacefully like all of us peace loving PF supporters. what you have written is false. We are winning outrightly on thursday,Teta, Mulongoti, VJ, FTJ etc will be histroy whilst Sata will be making History as the 4th President of Zambia. Period. Like it or not. HH should come 2nd. Nyama Soya sugar Daddy 3rd infact should just tie with Miyanda on 3rd.

  27. IG is just doing his job keeping YOU safe.We know that some people will not accept the results, I guess PF are veterans when it comes to violence after elections, we urge you to put Mother Zambia first. Both HH and Sata should sign somewhere that they will accept elections, some politicians think the people who go to listen to them votes for them, No, I would also not miss a PF rally for the humour part of it and period, would I vote for sata? NO, I know Sata from the UNIP days, I have visited in Chawama, even when he was Governor, I would NOT in my life vote for such a man.HH is an unknown package to me, I cannot speak of the man, RB definately, sober mind, educated economist, farmer, etc

  28. With PF and SATA in power, the RULE OF LAW will not be respected. Instead all would be offenders will remain GUILTY till proven Inocent. We are likely to have an extension of the Quantanamo Bay prison in Zambia. Let us make that mistake.

  33. BA SATA IS JUST BEING PROACTIVE, WITH VJ ON THE LOOSE THERE IS NO TAKING OF CHANCES WE ARE VOTING PF -SATA FOR PRESIDENT TO CLEN THE SYSTEM

  34. ANYONE BUT SATA. SATA is a danger to the wellbeing of this dynamic country. IG keep a good eye on him especially after the 30th.

  35. Which nation are you talking about? Where we are (Zambia) or where you are (foreign country)? We Zambians in Zambia have the votes and we are voting sata because we need a “mover and shaker”.

  36. People are very ignorant I have noticed. What PF and SATA are doing amounts to malpractice. But they are the one claiming they will not accept results if they loose because of malpractice, what a misdirected way of thinking!
SATA can not win this election; he has a very narrow coverage.
The other enemy of SATA is time; his age is up in arms with him, and no man can defeat ‘age’ even you are a good fighter, but everyone conceits defeat to this sure enemy. Sata’s hope has reached ‘anxiety indicator’ on the measuring scale which he has admitted openly by his conduct of late, by impounding innocent vehicles.

  37. #61. Fine! – isn’t it funny that you guys supporting RB and HH think of us supporting Sata as morons and ignorant? I guess they were right when they said he who laughs last laughs the longest! Pabwato! 2 days to go and we rule.

  38. Without education your behaviour can be very diversy, so dont blame SATA, but his lack of education.
SATA is very desparate thinking this is the only hope he has. SATA is looking at his age with a lot of anxieties as he wishes he were slightly younger. He must be blaming days for moving consistently. SATA wants to use the gimick of playing on public opinion by using the word ‘rigging’ so many times so that people are meant to believe that MMD can only win under such arrangement. It is sad that SATA wants to leave the youths with violent as their inheritance when himself has enjoyed piece throughout his life. What a way to say bye to your kids in your old age when you are about to die.

  39. I can tell you the truth here. RB will win the elections. SATA will follow the MMD candidate while HH will follow SATA of PF with a slightly wide gap than the one betwen RB and SATA. Miyanda will have few votes but only significant enough to be announced. MMD would have lost the elections had the PACT between PF and UPND worked but they spoiled their own chances. PF cadres are very angry when they reflect on this fact which they are very well aware of, especially the top leadership of PF. That is why they keep influencing their cadres with falsehood. Many of their cadres will get a rude shock by 1st November. How Sad!

  40. Rascal, you are lying. mmd cadres are the ones who are violent. just take close at yesterday’s incident where they smashed their provincial chairman’s (Mr Chumbwe) car windows. are those mmd cadres? no they are his fellow mmd supporters. please if you hate someone do not show it on this blog. God bless Zambia during this week’s bye-elections.

  41. Guys and Gals, how do you look at the MMD’s campaigns on ZNBC? Is it normal to use a dead person to campaign for you? They are using LPM!!. Pleaese for once leave LPM’s spirit in peace. Use RBB material! VIVA Ubwatoooooooooooooo!

  42. Fine! – we know you are just doing your job but come on, we all know RB is losing. Shame on you my friend for stinking to the sinking Titanic.

  43. The POST and SATA are both desparate. They are trying their last strength, which unfortunately is not sufficient enough to get them to their goal. SATA cannot win because of narrow coverage. I must say that the opposition, as a combined lot, may have slightly more than 60% of the vote while the MMD’s RB may have just a little under 40%, say about 38%. Of the 60% SATA may take about 34% while HH may end up with 27% and Miyanda just a little over 1%. Thus:
    RB ——–> 38%
    Sata ——> 34%
    HH ——–> 27%
    Miyanda —> 1%
    —————–
    TOTAL —–> 100%
    —————–

  44. #74 naikosa, chabipa fye chakweba ati elyo kwacha ikaba 1US$ – 10 million nifwe futi abakala chula especially the common man!!! Our alliance with Zimbabwe will surely have consequencies once our man in the unlikely event he takes over, watch this space.

  45. Sata’s campaign is strong because certain investors are supporting him. Not Chinese anyway. So the economy will be fine. After all magande will continue in his role as Min of Finance under Sata.

  46. Chimbala Liempe, careful, Sata is educated. It doesn’t take one to obtain degrees for him to become president. He will have a team of people to work with. What you should bear in your mind is that Sata will only be delegating. A president does not run ministries. But he’s team will. Please talk like a matured Zambian working abroad representing our beloved mother Zambia. Please you are an ambarssador and you should talk like a Zambian, behave like a Zambian and live like a Zambian where ever you are. Whether you live their for ages nothing will change you because you a Zambian.

  53. Iwe Mateyo, why didnt you comment when Tentamashimba openly called for the beatings of Eastern Province if they did not vote for Nyama soya? You guys be careful what you are saying! its only one day to go! vote pa bwaato………….

  56. YOU SEE ALL PF MPS AND COUNCILORS ARE CRAP, I TOLD THEM TO DELIVER WITH IN ELECTING THEM IN 2006. ALL THE DISTRICTS LEAD BY PF ARE CRAP ALWAYS FIGHTING WHAT KIND OF PART IS THIS? SORRY I GRABBED THOSE KEYS I WAS MISSLEAD BY AN OVER ZEALOUS CADRE LIKE IN MUMBWA.

    SORRY

  57. Zim Dollar your comments are as useless as the currency you represent and for your information PF is not the titanic but Noah’s Ark sanctioned by The Lord God Almighty am sure you don’t even have a voters card

  58. The Economist has also mentioned how unpredictable Sata is. It has mentioned Sata’s turncoat pronouncement on Chinese investment while the rest of the world is running to the East during this economic down turn – ‘pronouncement’ since PF does not put anything in writing. The article has put RB in the lead or maybe you skipped that part.

  59. Before everyone gets all heated up about God-santioned leaders as all Politians would like to believe they are, lets not forget that the elections are less than 48hrs to go, so we will see within the next few days who is leading this country for a PERIOD OF 3 YEARS ONLY. Once the final outcome has been announced, the others will need to accept.

    VIVA ABS!

  60. Thank you Sata for bringing up the fact that PF councillors have failed to deliver at that level citing government interference since the ministry they work under is run by an MMD minister.
MMD has majority ministers in Parliament, how does PF expect to deliver to the nation the promises they have made when the number of PF councillors have failed to reason with one minister and now they have to deal with a number of ministers in order to get moving? Get real. You have failed us at that level.Disilusionment will come fast and then manipulation of the constitution will follow in order to run for 5 yrs- probably the only promise PF will deliver on.

  61. PIPO OF ZED MWAANGA WAS ALLEGEDLY REPORTED SICK IN SOUTH AFRICA HOW CAN HE HAVE THE STATISTICS OF HOW THE MMD WILL WIN THE ELECTION?

  62. It is difficult to tell whether Dr Kaunda and Dr Mwanawasa could all be wrong with their endorsement of Mr Banda for the the highest position in the land. Having appointed Banda to serve just a heartbeat away from the presidency proves that there was something extraordinary that he saw in the man. This is something that was alluded to by nearly everyone who was interviewed on the ZNBC programme on Mr Banda’s life story aired on Saturday night.

Among these were veteran freedom fighter Chibesa Kankasa, lawyer and Forum for Democracy and Development vice-president Chifumu Banda, MMD founding member Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika and Health Minister Brian Chituwo.

  63. How is the MMD organised? What about the HP? Does the UPND have credible structures? Is their any collectivism in PF?

If voters have difficulties arriving upon an answer and they happen to know only one person as the organiser of a political party, then that should portend dictatorship.

It is up to them to make a decision and change their mind even as they are on the queue about to cast the ballot.

Over the past week, Mr Sata has promised that, if elected, he will honour the Barotseland Agreement that was never honoured by Dr Kaunda, Dr Chiluba and Dr Mwanawasa.

It is hoped that Mr Sata knows all that is contained in the agreement, otherwise he is simply making a political statment th

  64. There is no room in Zambia for inflated egos. Accept the will of the people. The POST has done so much to shave PF down our throats, we have stopped buying the paper, now analysts are telling us some those rally pictures are from 2006 when PF was at its peak! Shame!

    Viva ABS!
    Forward with Zambia!!!

  65. BA SATA BALANDILE MU 2006 AT THE POST AND NTCHITO BROTHERS WERE WORKING AGAINST HIM, ARE THEY WORKING AGAINST RB AND HH NOW? IF SO WHAT ARE THERE MOTIVES? WHAT DO THEY STAND TO GAIN FROM THERE FELLOWSHIP?

  66. Number 118 the enemy you know is easier to handle than the one you don’t know The Post knows Sata in and out and the can keep him in check when he walks the corridors of power

  68. The report from livingstone is that people are rioting in connection with aledged trucks that are believed to carrying already marked ballot in favour of RB. The truck were intercepted by UPND caders, who are demanding to see the inside of the container trucks. Could one please confirm to this reports as radio phoenics could not give further deatails.

  69. if attend a polical that does not mean that i am voting for that candidate. What am simply doing is learn more about that candidate. So let us be ready to accept the election results. Thank you IG

  70. It is really sinking low to enter mu bwato. It is a pity mob psychology is at work in this country and level mindedness is gone. Zambia, my peaceful country, my heart shadders to see you sink under the sea. Who will ever be able to retrieve you where you will be lying, burried, rusted and disintergrated under the rule of dictatorship? Zambians, my beloved Zambians, do not be carried by emotions, think before you vote to your own ruin. SATA is just not the right captain. The Post will sink with him and the rest of us. What a pity.

  71. Ifwe ni Pabwato. Nagu mulande shani, ni pabwato fye. Mailo 05.00 hrs nishi tuli pamulini. Fine, you are just yapping about, you don’t even have a Voters’ Card. Just wait for 31.10.2008. Inkawita.
