Police arrest 48 Monze High School pupils

Share

Police in Monze yesterday arrested 48 pupils of Monze Boarding High School for riotous behavior and causing damage to school infrastructure and property.
Police said the pupils also caused damage to the deputy headmaster’s office, the headmistress’s home and other staff houses.
Police officers on the scene told ZANIS that the pupils mobilized themselves and rioted after a Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA) annual general meeting held at the school where it was resolved that school fees be hiked from K420,000 to K510,000.
The pupils are said to have mobilized themselves against the resolution made in the PTA meeting on increasing school fees.
It has since been discovered that most of the pupils that were involved in the riot were grade ten and eleven pupils.
Police have since instituted investigations into the matter.
And when contacted for confirmation, Monze district education board secretary Josphine Shamputa said that the matter was under police investigations and could not comment any further.

  1. The pupils have good reason for rioting. fees must start coming down while government should start pumping in more money. They have sent a very good message, at least they think better than their parents.

  2. You can lough as if its funny. They are not the ones who pay but they decide to riot. Let the police deal with them accordingly

  3. Syapazanga teach those boys a lesson. Do they uderstand the magintude of the damaged they have done. this is retrogrssive

  4. Pupils should learn to respect what their parents agree to. Who are they to start rioting after parents and teachers agree to raise fees. Deal with them

  5. Useless pupils instead of studying they are busy breaking school property which they will need tomorrow………Please kids take school seriously for once!

  12. #23 I think he did say something like that. But I can understand people being angry, it’s a big hike in fees

  15. Dont spare them. They are the ones who are turnishing the image of the school. Let them pay whatever have been destroyed. From martin – Mungwi

  16. This is serious, maicious damage to school property, beat the chaps using umuchila wa mfubu, ifikoti pamatako.

  17. Hey guys, a wise man thinks twice before commenting. our fellow upcoming have a point to demonstrate. even higher learning institutions demonstrates. Let them demonstrate imwe agaalu.

  18. Teaching them a lesson ? Put yourselves in their shoes, 510 bucks is alot of money for rural parents to afford. Dont rush to blame the pupils ,they deserve reasonable fees .It is a shame you cant understand what they were fighting for , If your father is one of the beneficiaries from the ilogical Nyama Soya governmnt ,still have some senses to look from other side of the coin.

  19. Luapula fish..please shut up..who told u that breaking things is the way to solving the problem at hand…thats retrogresive behaviour nad thinking on your side….dull chap

  20. Atate Aagalu, you sound to have vast knoledge and this topic is too boring for you. anyway a bigup coz you’re the man. chez my bro n catch you later my boss needs a report.

  21. Info

Dont be ignorant ,that is the only way they can fight for rights .No one one is fighting for them ,your mouth can spit that Sh****t without any consideration coz you not affected .Dont think so low ,the economy is tightening how are they going to pay the fees.Zambian social welfare programmes are grounded

  22. #1 Mudiya sikata I think you don’t know what you are talk about.those guys are right,of course they are not the ones paying, but am sure they are doing it for those paying for them.So bro/sister lets not attack them, but the goverment. If our Goverment can Afford a salary of 2 deputy ministers in the same ministry, then they should also do something with the education sector.Boyi Mundiya cilakalipa, sometimes these guys leave their families with nothing(money)when they are giong to school.Shame on you goverment.

  23. Last time I checked, a PTA meeting involved Parents and Teachers. So why should pupils who don’t pay any school fees riot if their parents (who are responsible for paying fees I might add) agree to pay the new fees. This is a total lack of common sense on tha part of these pupils…And these are future decison makers in our country…

  24. Oh God even you Njobvu kaziyou are blaming the pupils,Its like some of you your fees were being paid for rich pipo,if they were coming out of a poor man/woman’s pocket, you could have not even blamed the pupils.Anyway limbi nsiletontonkaya fye bwino.

  25. Baby C,

Am fine and i had a peaceful weekend jst sad to hear dat u had a terrible headec hope its clear 4 good.

Riots, riots and riots.Despite that the mone does not come from thier pockets they had good cause to riot bcoz evry zedian has bn promised freee education up to G12,SO Y PAY?

  26. its unfortunate that these pupils think destrying school property is solving the problem of hiked school fees, someone has to pump some sence in these pupils heads.the police and school authorities must not spare them, they should be punished.are they the ones that pay?such pupils are the ones that dont even want to learn they are just time wasters…infact for that act they must be suspended….

  27. Chile,I was in Seychelles Island.Doing a documentary/filming on the devastating effects of pollution on coral.Hope u hav an idea of wat am talking about.

  28. Dog father,

  30. #2 if this is no time for marriege issues,if you failed to manage yo marriege we are not in the position to help, the issue at hand is very important

  31. DOG FATHER

Be reminded that errors are quiet common when you blogging coz most of the time you are doing 2 things at the same time.

I can see its your first time

I can only welcome you and not to subject you to the usual LT GAME

  32. Dog Father Thou shall not worry nimwamene tipangila Zina, you don’t have to hate master minder he’s also a good Zedian.

  33. Dog Father is really a rabid dog. Welcome Dog Father to the IT world and I congratulate for making yourself computer literate. You must be BBC (Born Before Computers).

  34. #90 So far so good boyi, its just that Home is Home boyi.filekosa fye.but as usual Zambian are not dull but master minders.

  35. all those students scoring above 50% must be given loans.Dull ones let their parents pay.Dont waste money for nothing.Arrest the indiscipline ones.

  36. #58 & #44.Chile, You are right in your analysis! If we read between the lines and ask ourselves who was at the AGM and impossing things on the majority, you’ll discover that it’s a few people who have the wealth at least! Iam also told that in the “TONGALAND”,no offense to Maestro he he he he & some Tonga guys on the blog, you have more say at the meeting when you own a big heard of cows, so it could be that the pupils were also protesting to such decisions. Again, you don’t expect parents staying far away from MONZE to make it to the meeting, so the issue of condeming these pupils is OUT as not every parent was there & agreed to the hike in fees!
LET us read the writings on the wall!

  37. it does not state anywhere that parents have agreed to this raise in school fees and by the,not all pupils have parents to support them so please just talk to them and find out what exactly is the problem these kids are facing

  38. LT please you should be deleting bloggers like Dogg father because he is always out of topic.Anyway back to the topic the fees are just too much considering the poor economic that many zambians are facing and what we must not forget is that these parents are not just sending one child to school.By the way this topic is worthy discussing.you spoiled rich chaps dont disturb, just because you are able to browse

  39. I remember being at UNZA, and when FTJ & the colleagues wanted us to stop school if you never paid all your tuition fees! The amount was only K500000, but most of our friends failed to pay this amount and were deregistered-this was in 2001! I would also have been a victim but because of my fighting spirit, I ended up seeing the Minister of Mines who intervined & I got a 100% Bursary-it was brutal! Iam here on the blog because I finished my studies at UNZA.

So these pupils are on the right track of addressing cardinal problems that society faces in Zambia!

  40. Villagers will agree to evrything that the Headmaster says. The will agree to Nyama Soya using government funds to buy them sugar. They agree to everything. The sad thing is they are busy sending you texts to pay for their children`s boarding fees because isukulu nalilunda.

  41. #100.Choma1, This is a real life situation & people should try to understand the fundamentals of how induced-poverty is affecting Zambia. The Ministers & Politicians seem not to understand the price paid by a common Zambian for their happy destiny in Parliament where they can afford to even become so sturbon instead of discussing issues of improving the lives of people who voted them into power! This is rediculours & insanity at its best!

We need to find lasting solutions of saving money & respecting each other for the Nation to prosper!

  42. 103. Geologist, Canada I agree with you ,politics has losts it meaning in Zambia.I was thinking that the church can do something as they are the only people who can reach out to almost all the zambians especially the vulnerable and the poor.People need to be taught and be reminded of their rights and duties

  43. Iwe chi #14 Dog father chhikala chobe wabe to1e lya nkummba ku munio. Taukwete ifya kulanda?
    Wabo ubwammba bwammbwa ku mabollo

  44. #104.Choma1, thanks and I’ll catch up with you later in 30 minutes as I have to attend a presentation! Later!

  45. Here is a Topic. Pirates seize another Oil Tanker of the coast of Mombasa and are demanding ransom. The Ransom they get is it not finding it’s way into Zambia. The government should open there eyes.

  46. UUUUUUUUUUM punde punde #105 ….yo name sounds like “puuna” do you know wat a puuna is?the other name is “amaleepe”.

  47. This is an extreme case of Exam fever . Some of the chaps arrested were scheduled to sit for Exams this month. I don’t see any wisdom in rioting about school fees just a few days before the exams. The pupils in Exam classes should have had their minds pre-ocupied with the Exams and not school fees. This is something they might regret for the rest of their lives. Ukutumpa .

  48. THOSE PUPILS ARE JUST MONKEYS RUNNING AMOKE. RIOTING OVER A PRICE HIKE IS TATAMOUNT TO PATIENTS IN A PSYCHIATRIC HOSPTIAL PROTESTING/RIOTING OVER INCREASED DRUG PRESCRIPTIONS. JUST PLAIN LUDICROUS!

  49. Hey Dog father, try to see your GP before you return to this blog. oh I remember there are some blogs for people like you. Ask me when you return. You can even say what is really bothering you and people will treat you like a king on these same blogs.

  50. The students need to be taught how to channel their anger and frustration. Why can’t the PTA involve some student representatives?

  51. SOME OF THESE CHILDREN COME FROM POOR FAMILIES AND THEY KNOW, SCHOOL INCREMENT TO THEM IS AN AUTOMATIC GRADUATION…..CAN YOU IMAGINE….THE PTA ….COULD BE CONTACTED AND DON’T CARE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE CHILDREN. YOU NEED TO EVALUATE THE WEALTH OF THESE PTA’s WHO MIGHT NOT GET IT.

LET EVERY CHILD HAVE ACCESS TO EDUCATION……SAME OF THESE OLD FOLKS WENT TO FREE SCHOOLS DURING KAUNDA OR DURING COLONIAL. IF THEY DID GET FREE EDUCATION , WHY NOT BE TO OBLIGED TO PAY BACK.

  52. Access to education is of primary importance and denying children the chance to acquire it can be a devastative particularly to a developing nation like Zambia. Those PTAs, do they exist only to hike school fees or what really to they take into account when taking such measures ?

  53. Country-men in todays post the ECZ has published a paper suppliment indicating Zambia’s elections profile.

Now there is no Lusaka appearing.city that has Seat of Governemt
They have squeezed PF areas to look small

I thought the elections are over. why start cheating people now. this shows ECZ not inpartial. U have Copperbelt with the largest voters appearing smaller to kasempa, Kapirimposhi. My foot. disband ECZ.

  54. ITS SAD DAT DEM PUPILS THOT OF RIOTIN.MI B’LIV DAT IN N SITUATION DERE IS A SOLUTION.RIOTIN IS NO SOLUTION BUT A DRO BAK.MI WAS TOD BY BY MY EX HEADTEACHER TO SAY,IF U DONT LYK WAT IS HAPPENIN AT DIS SKU,ITS BETA U PAK YO CARGO N GO.MAYB DOZ BOYS CAUGHT LL LEARN DAT SORTIN OUT ISSUES WITH VIOLENCE SOLVES NATING AT ALL.NWAY ITS LYF,BUT PTA MEMBERS SHUD NT JST LUK AT DERE POCKETS BT LUK AT A TIPICAL VILLAGER WHO STRUGGLES TO GET HIS CHILD TO A HIGH LEVEL
