Southern Province has representation in the new cabinet, Munkombwe

Share

Southern Province Minister, Daniel Munkombwe has dismissed claims that Southern province has no representation in the new cabinet.

Mr. Munkombwe said President Banda has not marginalised the province because, Bradford Machila, who comes from Southern province is a cabinet minister.

Mr. Munkombwe was reacting to reports quoting some Chiefs in the province as saying the region has no representation in the new cabinet.

Mr. Munkombwe was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Livingstone.

He thanked President, Rupiah Banda, for re-appointing him as Provincial Minister and has pledged to redouble his efforts towards implementing programmes that will help to develop the area following his re-appointment.

Mr. Munkombwe wants the economic zone facility extended to the province, especially Livingstone.

He has also pledged to engage Chiefs and their headmen in the development process.

And a ward councilor in Kazungula district in southern province has bemoaned the high levels of hunger in the district.

Davidson Sikasibi, who is Moomba ward councilor, told ZANIS in Kazungula today that there is urgent need to send relief food to the area.

He attributed the hunger to the floods that left a trail of crop destruction during last year’s farming season.

He also noted that although the area has not yet received farming inputs, people have started to farm.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sikasibi has appealed to contractors working on a bridge in Kazungula to speed up the rehabilitation works to enable the train reach Moomba area.

He said currently, people were finding difficulties in going to town as the nearest place at which the train was stopping was 50 kilometres from Moomba.

  1. What representation in a gvt of criminals even if southern province has no represantation so it be why are they even worried those that are wondering.

  2. I TOLD THE BLOGGERS THAT THERE IS NO ONE IN CABINET IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE, SOME UNINFORMED EVER URGUING CADRES MENTIONED THE NEW FINANCE MINISTER. ONCE AGAIN THE CHIEFS HAVE CONFIRMED MY OBSERVATION. DR SITUMBEBO IS FROM WORSTEN PROVINCE.

  3. I like how Southern Province has already started engaging in farming. They are very productive.

If we had a federal government system, I would bet my money Southern Province would be one of the richest provinces.

You will also grow old if you hang around long enough and when that time comes you will be wondering what the fuss is all about from those even just 10 years younger than you. Let us hope that you will have all your mental and physical capacities intact because in this day and age from the life habits people have these blessings go away from them sooner rather than later. The average age of onset of dememntia is decreasing and may be as low as 50 years! In a country of low life expectancy 50 is very old! There was a time when Africans respected age but is it western to despise the aged?

  5. LIVINGSTONIA WHAT IS YOUR COMMENT? I LIKE BROTHER MAESTRO Hhe something. He has faith in what he believes in. US WE OPEN OUR MOUTH WHEN THERE IS AN ISSUE. NO THREATS GUINUINE TALK.

  6. This old assh@#le should just shut up! Who doesnt know him to be one big job seeker that wont give up no matter what it takes….He was almost switching to PF in the last election thinking SATA was winning…

  7. Concerning tribal balancing what tribe would children born from the following parent combinations be? Husband- Ngoni + Wife- Tonga; Husband- Ngoni + wife- Bemba; Husband- Ngoni + wife- Lunda; Husband- Bemba + wife- Ngoni; Husband- Tonga + Wife- Lozi. What race is Barak Obama (Dad- black African + Mother- white American) If we say he is black we are ignoring his mother’s race. Why are we compartmentalising people day in and day out? Interesting thing is that the Bible never mentions the colour of any person named in it? Isn’t God telling us something? Moses’ sister was struck with leprosy when she became racist. Read for yourselves in NUMBERS 12 v 1-16

  8. What tribe is Guy Scott? Prof Chirwa has an eastern sounding name but he is Mufulira boy through and through. The LAZ president is Banda but he was born and bred in Mufulira and Kitwe and only went to Lusaka for school. How would these people represent Eastern province? It is time Zambians shook off these regionalist ideas and looked beyond the colour and sound of a name but the character of the person (paraphrasing MLK Jr)

  9. #7 flea marketeer! I dont know what rich southern province you are talkin of! Like fleas, tongas have migrated northwards. Southern is only good for ranching and sugar, nothing else can grow. If you want it, you can have it! Its cursed.

  10. Third world mentality! people have to be appointed on merit not basing on were they come from, why keeping people like Munkombwe in govt, the man has stopped thinking….

  11. Old man you are still in old politics of singing songs for corrupt and unproductive heads of state like RB.Remember how you destroyed KK by making him too ploud to see his mistakes.RB will finish your animals.I don’t know how many cows you gave to KK.

  12. Guys what has happened to s. Masebo the former local govenment minister. AS abroad thought she was very hard working. there must be a mistake some where . i hope it is not linked to Magande

  13. Can anyone tell me which Ministry Bradford Machila is Minister for? is he minister without portifolio? By the way, why did RB appoint poeple like Dora Siliya?

  14. #15. Little john

Your jealousy for Tongas has shielded your view of Southern Province economic potential.

FYI, The Hydro electric power station which powers most of the nation is found in Southern Proovince (Kariba).

Livingstone which is Zambia’s most important tourist destination is found in Southern Province. And lets not forget Southern province has a lot of fertile soil which is suitable for growing crops like maize and sugar. You also brought up the beef ranching which is also an essential industry.

To put it simply, if southern province could govern itself, it can do very well.

  15. thats the problem with our elderly politicians.they sometimes just talk to be heard ukubwatabwata fye) instead of puting brains in young politicians like chilumanda, teta and mike.no wonder we are breeding oor quaty of leaders.these should be advisers not chatter boxes.when they speak the country should listern but when they talk carelessly they loose respect.

  16. Being a zambian is living in a kangaroo court.MMD govt is a reflection of true animal farm.shut up regional politics old madala u are lucky.

  17. ‘Southern Province Minister, Daniel Munkombwe has dismissed claims that Southern province has no representation in the new cabinet.Mr. Munkombwe said President Banda has not marginalised the province because, Bradford Machila, who comes from Southern province is a cabinet minister.Mr. Munkombwe was reacting to reports quoting some Chiefs in the province as saying the region has no representation in the new cabinet.’It appears like Chiefs in The Southern Province read LT. Anyhow, I like the fact that whatever makes sense on LT is quickly acted upon by GRZ in one way or another.
However, this thing of this or that one being Tonga in Cabinet is petty.I dont care what tribe Ministers are.

  18. #11. Zambia, your wrote “… I LIKE BROTHER MAESTRO Hhe something. He has faith in what he believes in. US WE OPEN OUR MOUTH WHEN THERE IS AN ISSUE. NO THREATS GUINUINE TALK.”

Ndalumba mwanookwesu (thank you my fellow Zambian). Let us not start debating how many Tongas are in President RB Banda for it is a waste of time. What we need as of now is to see that President RB Banda’s promises are delivered to the Zambian People of all backgrounds. I do not care if there are only Nyanjas in Cabinet, but I serious care about whether Zambians in Zambia and Russia have food 3 times a day. See #23 above also.

  19. #20. Free-Market-Capitlst, you wrote “FYI, The Hydro electric power station which powers most of the nation is found in Southern Proovince (Kariba).”, but I reckon that the Kafue Gorge Power Station (KFPS) has more supply and generation than any other power station in Zambia. Once the Kafue Gorge Lower Power project is implimented, it shall be operating at almost the Koebek Nuclear Reactor Power Station level in South Africa making it once of the largest electricity generating stations in Africa.

By the way, KFPS is also in The Southern Province.

  20. It does matter what tribes ministers are from. Imagine if President Bush appointed a cabinet without a single black(blacks usually vote for Democrats) wouldn’t we have heard calls of racism? Here in the UK the prime ministers always make sure each community has representation in the cabinet so why should the case be different in Zambia? RB should have been more sensitive to this issue otherwise he is setting a bad precedence. It will just encourage people to be voting on tribal grounds and altimately this may lead to tensions in the future.

  21. Vote Rigger i love your analysis. on both the old and tribe issues. I am from the east but i was born and bred outside eastern province. Me and my wife actually speak more bemba than nyanja. can you say am representing the east if am appointed? lets not regionalise everything. about age people have just lost it. its not western to despise the old. we cant even define old as we insult and attack. what age is Mccain? even Hilary Clinton is above 60 years and all these were running for US Presidency! how old is the senegalese president?

  22. #28 what i know is that there is a format left behind by KK on tribal balancing. it was carried over by Chiluba and later LPM. I am not sure RB has decided to break away from the tradition. i doubt if he will. LPM released that when people accused him of tribalism and the family tree in cabinet.

  23. Can someone please tell me which Ministry Bradford Machila is in. He was not dropped but his ministry of lands was given to someone else.

  24. I suspect Machila will take up the justice ministry. the president said he will be taken to a ministry to be announced. alternatively he may be dropped since he backed Magande during the selection process.

  25. You guys, continue commenting on that old man.Me am listening to father Frank Bwalya who was recently arrested. He is on Muvi tv talking Sense.

  26. #30 RB has clearly broken from KK’s tribal balancing formular and I am concerned about that. Clearly RB was driven by his hatred for Magande. The best he could have done would have been to offer another high profile ministry to a Southerner. I disagree with people who claim it does not matter where ministers com from. It does full stop. Otherwise you will give a perfect excuse for some tribalists to appoint people from their tribes only

  27. #20 flea marketeer, there you go again with your blank box of a head! South africa closed its last reactor in 2004. KGPS is not in southern it produces at ful capacity, 900mega watt of power, far above old cracking kariba! Pliz keep your dying tongaland atase!

  28. Number 13 it is the white mans rule that says if you have one half of one percent of black blood you are black so I do not understand how Obama with 50% black blood is anything but Black… ask the white man?

  29. #35 Little John or whatever you call yourself,KGPS, Itzhi tezhi, Victoria falls and Kariba North HYDRO electric plants are all in Southern province. Please get it in your head whether you like Southerners or not. By the way you are welcome to the South. Come and visit and we will welcome you with chibwantu and gankata

  30. 35. Little john

I am not from Southern province but the fact is Southern province has a productive culture.

They have not received farming inputs and the bridge is still undergoing rehabilitation but they have already started farming. I have to admire the tonga’s need for being productive. I have now seen why Mazoka was rich and why HH is rich. Tonga’s are productive people. They don’t wait for government but rather start making means for themselves to prosper. I applaud you.

  31. Thanks #39, You know what you are talking about.S Province feeds itself and plays an important part of Zambia. Now RB has packed his cabinet with “Yes Boss Men” we are in for a torrid times, we will reverse our gains in the next six months, but do not despair the term is three years.Magande was the best Fin. Minister Zed ever had, not desrespecting the Doc, I think he is a consultant, not a strategist, we will discover that very soon.

  32. #41 are you sure? how many awards did Penza win as finance minister? only time will tell whether Musokotwane is bad or not. we must however bear in mind the different economic times when grading the ministers. Magande served at the best time. reaching HIPC, very high copper prices, renewed donor confidence and love after LPM introduced the graft fight all those helped.

  33. Guys, Almost all the Southern province MPs are in opposition. Do you expect the president to appoint MPs from UPND? Be realistic. If Southern province wants to have cabinet positions, then let them vote for the winning party next time. Remember, RB has to reward those provinces which delivered the presidency for him. The rest should make sure they vote for him next time. MMD does noy have MPs in Southern province to appoint as ministers. Why do southeners want to be in oppossition and at the same time enjoy cabinet positions. Make up your mind.

  34. #46 come to think of it! you reject a guy then you want him to put you in the winning team? more over appointments are made from among MPs. give the guy Mps he will give you ministers.

  35. #14 i cant agree with you more. The cabinet is full of zambians and to me that is all that matters. What we should now concentrate on is to make sure rthey perform no matter where they came from or whatever colour they are we should challenge them to work/produce

  36. But i should say here that the cabinet is too old Munkombwe should retire too.The man is not even educated and his experience is too scanty.VJ is 100% better than him.The only thing is VJ left southern province in 1964.He has always been a Lusaka and Copperbelt man

  37. Our country is living in challenging times. The Chiefs observations are valid. We all want to see a cabinet that is reprehensive of all our people. The solution to this lies in having a constitution that calls for 50+1 in order for someone to become President. If 50+1 was in place then political parties would see need to form alliances. The simple majority formula which we have for now only brings about rigging and mediocre cabinets like this one. Anyway RB’s choice of this Cabinet is a reflection of his inability to understand Zambia’s politics and how to move the country forward. He is finished even before he gets started

  38. LATEST NEVERS MUMBA ON MUVI TV SAYS HEZ NOT BITTER THAT HE WAS LEFT OUT BY RB APPOINTMENTS OF THE NEW CABINET MEANING HE WAS VERY EXPECTANT WATCH THE SPACE

  39. #35. Little john, I was mentored in South Africa ans so I know what is happening at Koebek (sp). Just check your facts right, the Nuke Reactor is operating to this day. Have you ever heard of UCT? If not, it is near to Koebec and so do a small research on ESKOM and Cape Town.

  40. #51. Mutale, while your observations are true and useful, I think the SP Chiefs are overstepping their capacities into questioning President RB Banda’s Cabinet.

I am very much Tonga and I believe that the President has done a good job in selecting the current GRZ Cabinet. Let us just give the a chance to perform their tasks as for now. 2011 is not far from the now and we have the UPND to take Zambia in a real foward direction economically and in all aspects of development.

Let us just keep our fingers cross and campaign for the UPND manifesto which holds Zambia’s development realistic plans.

  41. If there is no tribalism, why is it that only westerners can be minister of western province and easterners can be ministers of eastern province? The same goes for luapula and southern provinces! Actually I prefer tribal balancing wherever possible!

  42. Whatever the case, President RB Banda has given us the best that he has at hand since others did not want to risk being part of his yet to be known doubtful team and leadership.

Forgot about finger pointing and throwing stones. This talk of this one’s tribal and where he/she hails from is sickening now. Those people Presidne tRB Banda has appointed are Zambians and this is where it ends where they are non-Tonga people or not. We have more useful debates to make than talk or write about tribes all the time. The Americans from US(A) put men on the Moon because of education and not petty issues that do not build a house or indeed a home.

  43. Where exactly does Musokotwane come from i.e. which province, district or area and under which chiefdom? Feedback will be appreciated.

  44. How I wish our governance system could go beyound the issue of tribal or regional considerations when putting people in positions. In this age its time we appointed people purely on merit and I am pretty sure that we have capable people from every tribe or region to fill up positions of responsibility.
This politics of apeasement is not helping us in any way.

  45. This is emotional but a clear punch in the Sata crusade wrecking his Regional hold in Northern province.

    Ms Kapwepwe between tears

Finance Deputy Minister, Chileshe Kapwepwe almost wept when she was being sworn-in by President, Rupiah Banda, on Monday morning.Ms. Kapwepwe later told ZNBC news that it was an emotional moment for her to be sworn in as Deputy Minister. She said this was the same ministry where her late father, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe served as Minister in the first Republic. She said her father would have been very proud of her appointment because she was following in his political footsteps.Ms. Kapwepwe also said her appointment is a political comeback for the Kapwepwe famil

  46. Mr. Kapwepwe was a freedom fighter who helped to liberate Zambia. He also served in various ministeries and was later appointed Vice President in 1967.Mr. Kapwepwe in 1980 after suffering a stroke.

  47. Octavia you are right. But its Chiluba who brought this kind of politics. RB is trying to break it i think . he has sent Shawa to Northern and Mulyata to Northwestern.

  48. Mark my word, Rupiah will regret appointing a cabinet devoid of southerners. We all know Northerners did not vote for him too but he has rewarded then with the vice presidence.

  49. Its time we all looked past tribal issues and applaud any appointments made on merit. What matters most is our leaders’ capabilities and intentions. Imagine if we had a thief for president who appointed fellow thieves from every region of Zambia. We wouldn’t complain about the lack of tribal balancing but then there would be bigger problems to be dealt with. Having said that, I would still expect a somewhat regionally balanced Cabinet which is representative of the general populace.

  50. This is a fact. The contribution of Southern Province to the GDP of our country is more than the individual – or peharps the total combined -of Eastern, Luapula and Nothern Province. It has, among others , the largest irrigation area -Nakambala -in the country. Tourism is booming in Livingstone.

  51. These chiefs should be realistic, they never vote MMD, so what do they expect? RBB has actually been fair by giving them some representation in high places!

  52. If Zambia was to break into federal States, Southern Province will surely be one of the rich provinces. I think we should break into federal States for people to realise how rich or poor their provinces are.

  53. It is gratifying to see Commander-in Chief start with an impact.we know he will uplift the military. He is a man of action and knows exactly what a proffessional Defence force requires, given the scenario in our northern and southern nieghbours.he stems from the kk school.who knew what military needs

  54. looks like the days ahead may be tough, given the reccession in the developed world.we just need to be understanding as zambians especially you in the diaspora who sleep on T-Bone,chips,macarronni,nuggets,choclates,mince,turkey etc.let us support the big boss until we get there.he can do it.

  55. in zambia, this tribal thing can not happen.ethnicty is an impossibility.not in this generation. KK sorted it out for us once and for all.that is why the big man deserves better. Thanks the presi is RB.he knows exactly what kk is worth

  56. we cannot avoid talking about our tribes because our tribes become somehow our identity, “what we are”. in Philosophy teaches “unity in diversity.” we cannot deprive a person from being what he/she is. each one must have his/her origins…no one is born from nowhere. for this reason, we need to recognize the differences that exist among people and learn to respect such differences not to trample on them because this will go against what is enshrined in the bill of rights and also in the bible.
but difference can also contribute positively to development of nation if each one of us contributes unselfishly to wellbeing of others. we must have same goal. for this reason each region by minister

  57. we cannot avoid talking about our tribes because our tribes become somehow our identity, “what we are”. Philosophy teaches “unity in diversity.” we cannot deprive a person from being what he/she is. each one must have his/her origins…no one is born from nowhere. for this reason, we need to recognize the differences that exist among people and learn to respect such differences not to trample down upon them: for this will go against the bill of rights and also the bible. but differences can also contribute positively to development of the nation if each one of us contributes unselfishly to the wellbeing of others. we must have same goals. so each region should have equal representation.

  58. Pa Bwatoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo for life. HH will never rule this country. WHY??? BECOZ his party is too tribal. Tonga’s wake up from sleep OR stop dreaming like Rooten Bwanzani Banda. VIVA Ba SATA God bless you and for sure Zambian’s will miss you.

  59. looks like its only during elections that people remember about tribes, the reason is because they want it to work negatively against others.Iam a bemba but i appreciate the Tongas, the Kaondes ,luvales etc because these are among the aggressive tribes in job output in zambia. They are as aggressive as a Nigerians in getting things done. Those of you who are well travelled will agree with me

  60. Joe the Plumber want to spread wealth by making a publishing deal with small publishing companies on his incoming book .He said that is the best way of spreading wealth.Obama wants to increase taxes on the Rich and reduce taxes on working class Americans. That’s obama’s way of spreading wealth.May somebody tell me RB’s(Nyama soya’s) way of spreading wealth?Who is the socialist among Obama,Joe the plumber and RB?

  61. Country-men in todays post the ECZ has published a paper suppliment indicating Zambia’s elections profile.

Now there is no Lusaka appearing.
They have squeezed PF areas to look small

I thought the elections are over. why start cheating people now. this shows ECZ not inpartial. U have Copperbelt with the largest voters appearing smaller to kasempa, Kapirimposhi. My foot. disband ECZ.

  62. Vote rigger,
I applaud your analysis. You are right on! In my nuclear family, starting with the first born, we have intermarried in a pattern that includes Bembas, Sengas, Tumbukas, Solis, Tongas, Lalas, Ndebeles, Lozis, and Mambwes. Almost all my nephews and nieces are of mixed parentage. Even our own parents were from different tribes. Generally though, we speak Bemba in the family, but this doesn’t make us Bemba. We were all born on the Copperbelt, and I know many other friends and neighbors with a similar background like us. So if you want practice tribal balancing, where would you place people of my background? The solution is to just appoint the best qualified individuals. My gut fe

  63. My gut feeling is that most of the tribalistic bloggers on this forum have rural and village backgrounds and only recently migrated into cities.

  64. No 79..shut up you Bemba tribalist!! Wake up from your Sata hungover!! Sata is finished..like an expired drug. You consider Tongas tribalists what makes Bemba tribalism acceptable? All Bembas are PF…THATS A FACT!! We are tired of this rubbish Tongas have a right to be citizens of this country and to participate in politics as well. Live with it. After all Tongas feed the lazy Bembas who only know how to grow Cassava…where do you people get your arrogancy from……

  65. Can we stop exergerating KK,s one Zambia, one nation motto.KK caused us to be in this mess.He was pre-occupied with the idea of having one of his sons rule Zambia. In his time, the chief justice, majority IGs,OP directors were from the east or of Malawian origin. He grew up as a Bemba, yet his sons’ names are deep Malawian-Wezi,panji,Tilyenji,etc.If really KK was above tribal politics he wouldn’t have endorsed RB at the expense of HH and Sata.As father of the nation bent on unity,he should have been fair and square with all the presidential candidates.

  67. # 10 Vote Rigger
I agree you brother man. there is a number of us born outside our provinces. Parents from two different tribes and we’ve married from other tribes. thats why i say we are zambians not tonga’s or bemba’s or lozi’s. I personally speak nyanja, some lozi, lots of Bemba and Tonga because of schools and towns i’ve grown up from.

  68. #87,stop throwing tantrums around and stop being overly emotive.Like in the Bible,we people are given different talents,Tongas are agriculturists whereas Bembas are traders.Bembas wake up at say 2am to catch fish and by 9am,they will have sold the fish to CB dwellers.Whats wrong with growing cassava, that food is drought resistant and the covers can be used for making bio-fuels.Bembas aint lazy,us Tonga bulls even marry more, sit while our kids and many wives till the land. Now the Bemba trade fever is all over zed helping a lot of unemployed youths.Viva all tribes.

  69. 63,

Ladies and gentlemen, lets be honest here, Lalas are bemba speaking. It’s like saying Ilas are different from Tongas or that Nyengos are not Lozi. I speak fluent Bemba and I nearly dropped dead when I first head someone speaking Bemba, I honestly thought they were a joker. Also listen to Situmbeko Musokotwane speak his Toka Leya and tell him he is not Lozi, no wonder bloggers here from Moonze do not count him in cabinet as one of their own. Any way Tongas hould realise what them and HH did to Saki was bad, let them suffer a lot bit by dancing shimunenga from Banda’s Fwemba musica.

  71. # 91
if the country had more forward thinking people like you then our country would definately be better. I subscribe to the aspect of celebrating our diversity. we are good at different things. But we should realis that we are becoming like the american society, there is a lot of tribal inter marrages and people growing in areas other than their own.

  72. Ethnicity and tribe are a very important issue in Africa. We have not reached the point where through intermarriages we can safely say we are tribeless. As long as it is so there is need to balance tribal representation. One Zambia One Nation is actually founded os a PREMISE of acknowledging that all Zambians are equal and giving all the same opportunities be it in Government or other sectors. What Banda has done is to set the tone for further marginalisation of the Tongas. And no tribe can represent another. Banda is vindictive. He must learn to be a magnanimous winner.

  73. Imagine a Bemba married to a Tumbuka brought up in western province. Living in Livingstone. I can guarantee you that the kids we’ll be more of Tonga and Lozi than any of their parents tribe. Thats why i think this whole tribal thing is a worst of energy.

  74. I have noticed that bloggers talk about tribe without knowing how names dont mean you are a from a hated tribe or province. Some bloggers dont even know that there are Tumbuka from Northern Province and they are not Easterners.Example Chief Muyombe of Isoka is Tumbuka and is not an Eastner.

  75. #46 and 47, your thinking is highly questionable as a matter of fact it appalling, just what kind of africans are you. This is when I miss Mwanawasa, who was very practical, in 2001 MMD was not majority in parliament but mwanawasa in his own wisdom which you are Banda do not have appointed MPs from the opposition. There are MPs in parliament from UPND, what other MPs is Banda looking for, the constitution does not state that the president shall only appoint MPs from the ruling party, guys please do not expose your ignorance here. Besides the President appointed over 50 ministers and deputies, and if he was sharp which he is not, he would have simply divided that number by 9 provinces

  76. … cont 100: and then everyone would have been happy, the other way would have been to divide by the 7 official local languages, if the point was to appease everyone, but again what about my children who are both tonga and bemba, what happens to them if we use this approach? My advise, appoint a team that can deliver irrespective of what tribe, colour, creed or sex

  77. Facts are there that Munkombwe was almost joining PF in the last elections. This is the man who confirm that it was not easy for any presidential candidate to win election without winning on the Copperbelt.I wonder why RB is still keeping this old man.We want people who can perform not just because they are Tongas.Southern Province has seen the worst ministers so far-there was G.Mpompo,Mrs Simango,Mulyata and now this toothless old man Munkombwe.Non of them produced any tangable results.

  78. #101 thats the language we ought to be speaking. Yes soem more wisdom on the blog. am proud to be a zambian.

  79. No 6.If you think HH will win in 2011 then you are in for a chock. As long as the opposition are not going to work together..MMD will rule as forever.Selfishness will not help us.

  80. Minister my foot!!! this is why we can’t develop in Zambia, we have too many old people like Munkombwe, Bwezani, and many others holding position that young peopel with fresh blood are surpose to hold, go in parastatal companies only oldies are there, talk of ministers and not forgeting our very own president all oldies when are these people going to leave positions for the youths???? Munkombwe you have out leaved, retire please!!!!!!!! or job positions now have become like marriages were you vow till death do us apart. Atase!!!!! we are tired of seening oldies working and the youths jobless because of people like who don’t want to retire.

  81. Banda did not appoint a Minister from Southern Province cause MMD has no MPs from Southern Province Period. Those Chiefs complaining should jst keep quite and concetrate on helping HH mourn the LOSS.Machila is not a Cabinet Minister Period, he has no Ministry, if RBB is thinking of taking him to Justice Ministry, then when that happens , then he will be a Minister. Now Badala Bo Machila stay away from front bench in Parliament u are a back bencher. Also to hve a Justice Minister whose a hom……. sori byeee.

  82. #96,thanks for the great comment. My mum is from Luapula,my dad from northern,my granny was married to a Lamba at some point. My wife is Lozi and Tonga.I grew up in Lusaka and speaks nyanja to my siblings.I now live in SA among the Zulus,Sotho and all. Then am an SDA who went to a catholic school.Tribe or language to me is dynamic.

  83. Wafwa mayo!! I am Tumbuka, married to a Tonga. I did not support RB, neither did I support HH. i AM NOT A kabova, as some misguided quarters tend to proclaim that all of us PF supporters are. But at the end of the day I am a Zambian who just wanted fair play in the elections regardless of who wins. Those goons in the NCC must workout some thing good now, no unnecessary elections if State House 1 falls vacant before schedule. Period!! Lets save the money and time sha!

  84. #14 VOTE RIGGER

Your point is very well taken, the president should appoint MPs he is comfortable working with, MPs he can trust with responsibilities not people he doesnt even know. In other words he should not choose based on how the surname sounds but on competence. iam not surprised that he chooses MPs he campaigned with becasue obviously those are the people who’s competence he knows having spent time with them in difficult times.issues of easterner or southerner should not arise because people have intermarried and mostly especially easterners did not grow up in the province where the surname belongs, otherwise the Americans would have rejected Obama bases on a Kenyan surname

  85. #108, I am in Zambia connected via telenor in Denmark, thus the flag if that is what you are asking me for. #112, please read your constitution. Yours statement is misplaced.

  86. FibaTonga vavuta pa blog. What is your problem kansi. Even your Chiefs want to bring tribal issues about GRZ government. We tired of hearing Tonga this, Bemba that sha.

  87. #119 why do you hate the tonga’s? Is there anything wrong with making an observation? Guys leave your emotions out of this blog if you have nowhere to take them. #117 I am sure you did not mean what you said!

  88. No.7 and all others who wish for a federal system, I hear you. Not only Southern Province but all regions would realise their potential with the available natural resources and use of knowledge to develop new technologies/ innovation. Central government has made people very lazy and looking out for handouts. Zed needs a federal system which should ensure some kind of rotation where each region has a chance of having a candidate of high calibre elected to the presidency. Chiefs are bribed to influencing their subjects on who to vote for. In a well thought out federal system complaints of non representation would be resolved. NCC should revisit this issue.

  89. #57 Musokotwane is a Toka Leya name Chief Musokotwane in Southern province near Livingstone. Situmbeko is a Lozi name actually Tokaleya is a mixture of Lozi and Tonga. These people are also in Chief Mukuni Livingstone/Kazungula area.

  90. MOST OF YOU BLOGGERS DONT UNDERTAND OR DONT POSSESS POLITICAL ANALYTICAL SKILLS TO MAKE MEANGFUL COMMENTS HERE.YOU ARE LIKE YOUR SATA WHO JUST TALKS WITHOUT THINKING! MINSTERIAL APPOINTMENTS ARE A PERORAGATIVE OF H.E RUPIAH BANDA AT THIS TIME AFTER HE AND HIS TEAM PLAYED THEIR POLITICAL GAME TO VICTORY. RB MIND YOU IS HIS OWN MAN NOW.CERTAINLY AND NATURALLY HE IS POISED TO SCORE AS HE PROMISED.THATS WHAT IS DRIVING HIM OR WILL DRIVE ANY INTELLIGENT LEADER.THOSE OF HIS MINISTERS WHO WILL NOT PERFORM WILL HAVE TO PART COMPANY WITH HIM.NO SANE LEADER WOULD WANT TO PLOT FAILURE! AT HIS AGE RB IS AN EXPERIENCED POLITICIAN TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE GAME.WATCH HIM PLAY.ZAMBIA IS FOR ALL ZAMBIANS!

  91. Musokotwane is from the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo in the presently rebel-held territory of Jomba. His village is called Dumbwizee located 80 kilometers northeast of Goma, the provincial capital of Nord-Kivu. He has been appointed minister to appease the Katangese community in Zambia led by Chiluba. His primary task is to weld Zambia seriously to the Banyamulenge rebels, very tight.

  92. it is true that all of us are zambians; but what makes the nation are the people from different ethnic groups. i believe that each person is gift no matter what ethnic group he/she belongs to. we need to recognize and acknowledge that not all zambians are bembas or tongas. failing this fact we bring confusion in the nation because we would have denied other people’s roots. as an individual i am part of a whole not only part of a particular number of people. but i do not just exist because of others, i also exist as person in my roots and i contribute to the nation as i am not as one would like me to be. hence, i am acknowledged as part of this beautiful nation with different tribes.

  93. IF ANY OF YOU BLOGGERS ARE TRIBAL THEN YOU BELONG TO THE DUSTBIN!AS MUCH AS WE ARE FROM DIFFERENT REGIONS IN THIS COUNTRY WE ALL AS HUMANS COME FROM ONE POINT- FROM GOD’S CREATION.ONLY AN ANIMAL WILL THINK AND DO TRIBAL.HUMANS WITH BRAINS , AND OF COURSE SOME HAVE NO BARINS, FROM TIME TO TIME HAVE MOVED ON AND WON THE BATTLE OF DISRCIMINATION! BRAVO OBAMA! SO ITS BEING PRIMITIVE TO TALK TRIBAL HERE. SOME COMMENTS HERE ARE LIKE COMING FROM PEOPLE WHO PASSED THEIR EXAMS FROM LEAKED EXAM PAPERS THROUGH THIER PRIESTS!ACTUALLY U WERE TAUGHT TO MEMORISE STUFF AT SCHOOL- NO INTELECTUAL DEVELOPMENT, HENCE YOUR PARROTING!

  94. No. 127> it is true that we have a right of expression which is a fundamental right. but i think before you comment on what others have said, especially those who defend the dignity of others…you need a bit of research, openness to people’s ideas: somehow respecting others people ideas. Anyway, I do not blame you for what you said, you seem to be a narrow minded person and lack intellectual capacity to understand the concepts that people present in their argumentative contributions. your article is full of people’s names, and therefore it’s offensive to others and lacks integrity. please respect other people ideas. learn from No.125.

  95. # 129 I WOULD NOT CALL A SPADE A SHOVEL!THATS HYPOCRISY.IT IS NOT A VIOALTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS TO CALL TRIBALISTS ANIMALS! IT IS A DESCRIPTION EXACTLY ABOUT WHO THEY ARE. IF SOME ONE TALKS WITHOUT THINKING YOU WOULD CALL THEM INTELLIGENT? INDEED THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEIR PRIMITIVE THINKING! I FOR ONE WILL NOT TAKE PRIMITIVE THINKING TO REIGN ON THIS BLOGG BUT CERATINLY I WILL RESPECT THEIR SHALLOW THINKING AND ATTEMPT TO EDUCATE THEM IF THEY ARE WILLING! I APPRECIATE YOUR BEING NEITHER HERE NOR THERE! LIFE IS ABOUT BEING FACTUAL AND NOT HALLUCNATIONS AND THEORIES.

  96. MR. MUNKOMBWE IS YAPPING TOO MCUH AND WILL GOOF BIG TIME ONE OF THESE DAYS. THE GUY WAS EVEN SHOWING OFF ABOUT GETTING CIVIL SERVANTS OUT OF THEIR OFFICES SO THAT HE COULD CAMPAIGN FOR MMD. HE TOLD THEM THAT IF THEY WANTED THEIR HOUSING ALLOWANCES THEY SHOULD VOTE MMD. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF SATA HAD DONE THIS? I’M SURE THE SAME MUNKOMBWE WOULD HAVE ACCUSED HIM OF TREASON. WHAT A JERK!

  97. Thanks #132, you know it is so annoying when you want read meaningful and interesting contributions, bloggers are busy castigating each others tribes. Zambians should begin thinking beyond ethnic grouping to develop. Zambia has a lot of potential for wealthy creation in almost all the provinces.

  98. Off topic guys.
Those in diaspora, someone explain to me why we have to be changing our passports? Mine is valid for another 6 yrs. I have permanent residence (PR) in it, if I have to get a new passport, then it means I have to get a new PR in the new passport. What a country ours is!

Why not say those that are valid are valid until they expire? Britain changed their passport but all those who had old ones were told they still had to hold on to them until they expired.

God I am going to get a British passport!

  99. why is it that pipo who campaigned for RB have been left out.Talk of AKashabatwa Bikusita Lewanika and others.Pipo who voted for Sata such as Chileshe Kapwepwe have been given potifolio.Dr Situmbeko never even dreamed that one day he would be a minister. This world is bad. There are pipo who realy suffered for RB at least he should have recognised them.AKA is a campaigner when it was tough in western province he went there to visit villages camaigning for RB.Mind you also the late Presdent Mwanawasa rewarded RB for campaining for him in Easrten provivince in 2006.PlZ let us be fair.

  100. Tired of these old fellas, every system (parties, Govt, institutions of good governance etc )is faling to switch to over power(business of running national affairs) to young ones. The will be held responsible for their crooked conduct. Those close to them remind that its digital age no manual or will contunue suferring

  101. What else do one expect from an old recycled leader.Such leaders do not march with time. Despite good value of their history they can not make any good re-appreciation of the nature and its environs.I think Zed will contue being abused untill when some serious negative point will be attained on the measuring scale (war like DRC,political confusion like zim, ungovernable like somalia etc).Come on, leaders, am not wishing such but alerting all, serious analysis of things, at the rate they hppening, in the next 30 years Zed is likely to be un governable

  102. dearest zambians, it is sad to learn that we are still in the cave especially when it comes to politics!!! I think it is important to understand this…instead of analysing situations many of us turn tocharacter assassination! Our contribution cannot turn tables upside down as long as we remain emotional and somehow selfish in our approach to political life. many of us support certain people basing on purely emotional reasons: it doesn’t matter what ittakes or how misleading they are. we die for such leaders and later on innocent people suffer…poverty, hiv, crime, diseases and hunger, etc.i urge all zambians to submit positive criticisms on the state of our nation for the better zambia.

  103. Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane is from Mulobezi in Western Province. Mulobezi is near Livingstone a Toka Leya region. Technically (Mashukulumbwe) as Toka Leyas in Western Province are called are one of the 24 tribes that constitute the wider Lozi ethnic group. The Tonga people and chiefs have always looked at Toka Leyas as not being part of their ethnic group. The problem is that more often than not Toka Leyas would be fluent in Lozi rather than Tonga. This is why Lozi has been widely spoken in Livingstone than Tonga? And why Tonga chiefs have been quick to point out that they have no representation in govt.

  104. #144. But Kebby Musokotwane was fluent in both Tonga and Lozi. Is it just because he was a smart guy or had a good upbringing? I think learning a language is a matter of interest for the individual but it also helps you build bridges world over. I have a dutch colleague who speaks bemba better than most Zambians I know and dances rhumba like there is no tomorrow. What can you say – total globalisation and not inferior tribalism. Wake up open your eyes and Unite!! The man loves Zambians and can do anything to remain in Zambia.

  105. Please shed off names like ‘Mushukulumbwe’, ‘Baswa mashi’, ‘Banya mazai’, ‘Masholi’, and ‘Makwere kwere’. They have no use in the modern world. We all belong to one race – the human race. What more with a small country like Zambia, you practically are brothers and sisters and may soon even find ti hard to marry.

  106. #138, Campaigning for RB was part of national service because we did not want Zambia to be led by one undesirable element called SATAN. We need sanity and not otherwise.

  107. We can’t ignore tribe, quite alright but it should not be criteria for appointing ministers. The best people should be appointed. Otherwise, we’ll say we want to have 72 ministers from each tribe. One Zambia, one nation we must never forget.
